So, I haven’t seen the London Special, just seen the reactions, but it is really hammering home to me how much of the plot could be … not “fixed”, but at least “untangled” if Mari had literally ANY CONNECTION to Gabriel that didn’t involve Adrien. Like, her mentor, an old family friend, her godfather, her dad’s old college buddy, just … ANYTHING that made Marinette connected to Gabe on a personal level. It still wouldn’t make her lying to Adrien ok, but it at least would make it more sympathetic. Cause then she isn’t just lying to Adrien, she’s lying to HERSELF, because if she tells Adrien, then she has to acknowledge that actually, Gabe kind of sucked. Like, “cool motive, still murder” - yeah, you tried to revive your wife, and you loved your kid, but you were a dick, man. Marinette having ANY connection to Gabriel that is more personal than “my crush’s dad” would make the entire thing at least a little easier to understand. As it is, it comes across as Marinette, I’m not sure this is the right word, but almost “infantilizing” Adrien. She’s making decisions for him, denying him agency in his own life, because she’s decided she knows what’s best for him.

And like, Mari’s a kid who had a hell of a lot heaped on her shoulders, I get where the mindset probably came from, but Marinette’s only major connection to Gabriel in canon is that he’s Hawk Moth and she’s Ladybug. And while yes, that is a big connection, it also isn’t personal? Like. Gabe’s relationship with Marinette is basically nothing, if you take out the Miraculous stuff. Marinette is just some girl who goes to the same school as his son, is a rather promising designer, and … that’s kind of the extent of their interaction. Without the Miraculous, they barely qualify as acquaintances. If Marinette isn’t Ladybug, or Gabriel wasn’t Hawk Moth, there would be basically nothing there. And while I can make an argument that Ladybug absolutely has a say in what to tell the PUBLIC, that keeping up the ruse with them MIGHT be … not GOOD, but the lesser of two evils, I don’t think Ladybug/Marinette has any right in denying that info to Adrien. It’s his damn dad, he has a right to know what happened. Hell, even just about his mom! He has a right to know what happened to her!

And on a quick swerve, it actually annoys me that Ladybug hasn’t told Chat Noir. Like, the guy is your partner, you’ve been fighting this thing since day one together, on the superhero side of things, he ALSO deserves to know who the hell the pair of them have been duking it out with. Like, I’m aware identity shenanigans are afoot, but if Ladybug has the right to make this kind of call, then Chat should also get that right, which means LADYBUG SHOULD TELL HIM.

(… I will admit, this might all be bothering me less if my dad hadn’t been playing Hallmark movies all day, and I hadn’t been forced to sit through at least 12 separate scenarios where literally TALKING TO A PERSON would solve all the problems. But like … 8 times out of 10, when someone says, “don’t tell anyone I did this thing”, it is A) something you should PROBABLY tell someone, or B) something that is going to blow up later if you keep it a secret.)

the whole thing about Mari having no investment in the identity reveal past ‘ah that’s my bf’s dad’ has bothered me for a while because REALLY she should have some connection and they already set it up but never did anything with it.

But Marinette lying to herself and trying to convince herself that her mentor/friend is a Good Person despite the fucked up things he did would be a lot better than ‘uwu I don’t want to tell Adrien that his father fucking sucked despite the fact that Adrien is already VERY aware that his father fucking sucks’.

For the prompt: I would really like to see someone (coach or media) realize Bryce is not actually an idiot (at least about hockey)

SO: How is it, having Bryce Marcus back in the roster for this final run before the playoffs? Is it a relief to have him back? BF: We have faith in all our guys, but I mean, of course we’re glad to have Bryce back. LR: I wouldn’t use the word relief, though. That’s not the feeling I get. It’s a treat to have him back with us. BF: Yes. LR: And I don’t just mean on the ice. The guy’s a sponge, truly. Everything I teach him, he either picks it right up, or he knows it already. I’ve coached some of the best players in the world, here and internationally, and I’d like to think I’m pretty accustomed to bright hockey minds. But it’s a treat. It’s a treat. SO: High praise. LR: My guys know — I never give a compliment unless I mean it. BF: Is that why you never give me compliments? Jared’s honestly a little surprised it takes as long as it does for the coaching staff to realise just how bright Bryce is. Or more, to pick up on just how broad that intelligence is, because it doesn’t take long for them to figure out how quickly Bryce picks up strategy, almost no time at all before he’s quarterbacking the power play, stage-directing before face offs. But Jared doesn’t know if it’s Bryce’s reputation preceding him or what, but the way they seriously pay attention to what Stevie has to say, to Gabe, Bryce doesn’t get that.

Thankfully that doesn’t extend to the team: they start listening to Bryce almost straight away, on the ice and off it. Jared thinks Gabe had something to do with that, letting everyone know Bullet has a good eye, that he’s worth listening to, but it probably would have happened even if Gabe hadn’t said a thing. This isn’t Calgary, nobody’s tuning him out, assuming the only things he knows about are scoring goals, picking up women, and taking bad penalties.

Bryce’s linemates are the first ones to notice, unsurprisingly. Usually where the first line goes, so too goes the team, and the Canucks are no exception. It’s only a handful of practices before Bryce is sticking around after the coaches leave, staying on the ice to give dudes pointers, give them a little extra practice on the things they need to work on.

It means Jared has to stick around a little longer, and Gabe too, if they’re carpooling, but Gabe claims not to mind, and whenever Jared gets impatient, he just has to think about how Bryce ran him through almost every single exercise before the combine, rented private ice time when Jared was getting too into his own head.

It’d be selfish, not wanting his teammates to get that too. And, far more importantly, it'd be completely counterproductive. It makes Bryce happy too, and Jared’s always going to be a sucker for that, though, thankfully, Bryce never seems to realise quite how big a sucker he is.

But in the final regular season stretch, Jared swears he can see it click, all at once, and suddenly Bryce is getting pulled aside by Coach, waved over to serious conversations with the team vets, Rutger leaning down to intently listen whenever Bryce turns to tell him something mid-game.

“Coach told me I should consider a career behind the bench after I retire,” Bryce says when they get home after one particularly long post-practice conversation.

He sounds a little stunned, like it’s something he never considered before, which is kind of funny, considering he was technically supposed to be one when he met Jared.

Jared would have laughed his ass off at the idea of Bryce coaching back then — and he did — but now?

Well, maybe he wouldn't be the best head coach, because Jared can see Bryce getting his ass thrown out of the game after losing it on the refs — he’s almost done it a few times as a player. He can see him being loved by his players, the kind of coach they’d run through walls for, but he can’t so much see him handling the disciplinary side of things, or delivering the bad news of roster re-assignments, scratches, which goalie’s in, which is out.

Not that he couldn't do it — Jared’s sure he could — but he’s equally sure that shit would stick with him at the end of the night, get in his head, follow him home. He’s too nice to be a head coach.

Jared’s not saying head coaches have to be assholes, except — maybe he is, a little. All of Jared’s best coaches were dudes he’d never be friends with, and that’s probably part of it. Better to be feared than loved, right? That’s Machiavelli, Jared thinks. Dude had some solid points, reputation aside.

But assistant coach, well — Jared can see that. Bryce running the power play, maybe, or special teams in general — he may not play on the PK, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t run a good kill. Or maybe be the coach that takes the lead on player development, the friendly one checking in how the rookies are doing and if anyone’s dealing with shit off the ice, helping them grow as players.

“Huh,” Jared says.

Bryce gives him a curious look.

“You would, you know,” Jared says.

“You think so?” Bryce says.

“I really do,” Jared says. He doesn’t know why Bryce lights up at that, when he’s just been told the same thing by someone who knows a hell of a lot more than Jared does, but he accepts the grateful kiss that comes his way. He hasn’t earned it or anything, but he’ll take it anyway. He always will.

Something that I love that is basically canon is how in tune Theo and Liam are. Like post season 6 I imagine the pack find it so startling to the point where it’s almost creepy.

I like to imagine that sometims when theres a break or intermission after/during a meeting or get together one of the pack will be like, “where’s Liam/or Theo?” And the other will know the exact location just immediately before any other supernatural has picked up the other’s scent or hearing. There are also totally times where someone will ask them both a question or for their opinion and Thiams eyes will just meet and everyone else watches as the two have a whole conversation without any direct communication. You could argue others in the pack can also do this like Stiles and Scott or Derek and Stiles or even Mason and Corey. BUT Liam and Theo are on a whole other level. What’s the best about this concept though is the absolutely hilarious faces the pack makes when they do anything like this in front of them-Liam the angry beta and Theo the chimera of death are so universally understood by one another that no words are needed between the two, and that is just shocking to everyone else. Both boys have so much trouble verbally communicating how they’re feeling/thinking with everyone, and so for both of them to find someone that can literally just tell with a look is so meaningful.

No one even knows how to describe the two of them separately anymore, including each other, because they are just so unanimously ONE. One soul, one brain, one heart. They love each other but it’s also just SO MUCH MORE than that!

oh absolutely and as you said, i love that this is canon. there's so many instances of this in s6 and while liam constantly tries to deny it, hes always looking for theo. and its so lovely how they just get each other. even in s6a when theo hasnt been back yet for long, they effortlessly fight next to each other. obviously s6ep20 is an even better example of this because they're so in tune, they easily work off of each other cues, and they even get so physical with it??? they stay right by each others side, liam literally rolls himself over theos back and theo gives him a little boost to further his momentum. like its actually so cute of them how well they understand each other.

and that's not even getting into their whole eye contact thing... them wordlessly communicating during the confrontation with gabe in the locker room and liam turning to look at theo when peter complains about his car getting destroyed are two moments that immediately come to mind for me. also, theo turning to look at liam after they leave the police station, when the pack fakes leaving beacon hills. they have so many moments where they look at each other and literally just. stare. they dont say anything, the pack doesnt fucking address this either??? its just them looking into each other's eyes and it makes me crazy. like that scene in s6ep16 where mason asks liam "should i come with you guys?" and instead of answering, liam looks to theo. theo looks back at liam and THEN answers mason. like. ok. just liam expecting his bf to answer his best friend and said boyfriend immediately reacting. whatever.

scott, at least, actually canonically sometimes looks at them a bit suspiciously (heres a lovely compilation of that by my dear oomf on twt) and its absolutely hilarious to me. i dont doubt that the pack would side-eye them occasionally but i feel like they'd accept thiam being thiam relatively quick, because they're already so used to their gay antics in canon. like when theo dragged liam into the bathroom at the police station in front of the entire pack?? and no one stopped him? liam didnt try to fight back either??? like, alright. their surprise wouldnt stay for long because even before they're in an actual relationship, they already act that way with each other.

going away from canon, i totally agree with them knowing where the other one is. i think they become obsessed with keeping track of each other's scent and heartbeat, but in a very sweet way. they find it calming and reassuring. theo unconsciously listening to liams heartbeat as a background noise. just in the back of his mind, because it makes him feel more comfortable. and being able to pick out liams scent literally always bc hes spent so much time looking out for it. i feel like for theo its more of a soft indulgence. he loves liam and automatically does these things. it makes him happy, even if he wouldnt admit it.

for liam, it stems more from insecurity and fear. liams abandonment issues ("hayden left me. scott's leaving, too." his reaction when he hears that morey are planning to go to the same college (possibly "leaving liam behind") and as a hc: his bio dad leaving him and his mom) and the way theo throws himself into danger for liam. liam would keep track of theos scent and heartbeat to make sure that he's still around, that he's still alive. liam feeling relieved everytime he has proof that theo hasnt left. that theo hasnt gotten himself killed. as you said, they kinda suck at verbally communicating so liam wouldnt be able to articulate this to theo. that liam has this anxiety of theo leaving, in whatever way, like everybody else. thankfully, theos actions would be enough to calm liam. he himself would never think this of himself, but hes incredibly reliable when it comes to liam.

i love this concept of them going from being liam and theo to liam and theo. in s6ep16 there's two scenes where characters refer to them as a pair (nolan talking to the hunters about them and scott mentioning them to malia, lydia & argent) and its something so simple but it makes me so giddy. they're a pair. they belong to each other. they're liam and theo. and they fit each other so well. they mirror each other in a lot of things, but they also complete each other. theo is the calm to liams anger and vice-versa. they make each other angry, they make each other happy, they suck at verbally communicating but they effortlessly understand each other. they each think of themselves as a monster and help each other learn that thats not the case. they're liam and theo and im insane about them.

like yeah them as a ship is obviously something i love. but its not just them in a relationship that i find interesting about them. even if you dont ship them, their dynamic is so fascinating and their interactions are really fun. the way liam goes from "hating" theo to trusting him but still being in denial about that so he keeps lashing out at theo (threatening to kill him, saying scott will never trust him, etc) and the way theo goes from only being interested in his own survival to deeply caring about liam, saving his life and staying for him. all this is extremely romantic and homoerotic to me, but even if, for some weird reason, you do not read it that way, you still cannot deny that theres a bond between those two. they're linked to each other, no matter how you view their relationship.

darlin’ family hcs

cw: child neglect + implied suicidal thoughts(?) to a degree

sometimes i imagine darlin’ at a young age was abandoned/neglected to a degree by their parents due to their responsibilities and they found themselves in a human homes and gabe kinda sponsored their adoptive parents to care for darlin’, that family being treasures. but due to covert laws, treasure wasn’t informed on this till later on. besides the point— treasures parents weren’t fond of darlin’ but regardless took them in due to the funding provided but it wasn’t put towards darlin’ causing them to be neglected once again. treasure trying their best to fulfill their older sibling duties to their best abilities but failing. the day darlin’ turned 17, they were left upon their own. treasure & their family left away to a different part of dahlia and darlin’ kinda just bunked with partners and partners they dated until they turned 18 to afford their own place. this is why darlin’ barely has food and doesn’t value their life to heavy because they never seen much of a purpose to fight for a life they feel as if they weren’t deserving of if everyone who was supposed to love them disregarded them.

upon meeting sam, darlin’ has seen the value, a part of it atleast. they had asher , david + milo, but they lacked the romantic aspect to a degree. darlin’ obviously got around and fooled around but not quite with how they got with sam. sam gave them purpose to open up their eyes.

now with telling same it was difficult. “hey!!! i can’t be bothered to care for myself cuz every parental figure literally left me at a young age lol >_<“ isn’t as easy to tell someone but unfortunately he was informed the worst way possible. its very clear none of the listeners r mentally stable and darlin’ is the least. it was a night after they got into a bit of a squabble about their living conditions. sam had the best intentions of course, not to upset, more in a caring bf way. darlin’, the emotional mess they are, saw this as criticism.

“can you get out of my face for five seconds you jerk!!” darlin’ barked following with a shaky sigh. sam’s eye twitching a bit. he pinched the bridge of his nose as he sighed as well. “darlin’—“ he began. opening his eyes to see them a shaking mess, eyes watering & a scowl to match. his face softened as he reached out for them. “hey hey— ,,, baby—?” a smack to his hand was met. “do not touch me right now. please.” they sighed anxiously, biting their lower lip. sam gulped, kinda unsure what to do here since he never saw them get this way before. darlin’ found their way out of the living room quickly before sam could react. they didn’t run. sam just let them, they needed to cool off & at the time, that was the right thing to do.

1:00am rolls around and sam walks into darlin’s room, their back to the wall and under the blanket. sam sat on the empty spot next to them. darlin’ turning over to look at him, analyzing his face. “i’m sorry. sam.” they say. “i’m so so sorry.” they sigh as they snuggle into his side. sam placing his hand on his back. “i forgive you, darlin’. i’m sorry as well.” he hummed lowly as he scratches their back gently. darlin’ begin to hiccup as the tears fell. “i just— i felt scared. like you—,,” they struggle out as they grip the blanket harder. “i’m sorry— i don’t know what came over me.” they sit up and lie in his chest.

sam just humming in response, assuring darlin’ it was okay. “i felt like you were judging me.” they stammer out, pushing their hair out their face. “of course not darlin’! i’d never. i’m so sorry it came off that way.” he kisses their forehead gently. “i know i just— i never learned how to handle this kind of talks.” they cough, feeling their head ache. sam began to connect the dots slowly as he lied them down. “don’t worry about this anymore, ok?” he kisses their cheek. “my beautiful darlin’,, you’re perfect & i love you.” he smiles as they’re eyes lock together. darlin’s bottom lip quivered as tears fell. “i love you too sam.” they hic. eyes slowly closing as they cried silently. “i promise ill get better. i know i have bad confrontation skills. i wish i could understand why myself.” they mutter as sam caressed their cheek. “this isn’t your fault i promise.”

i like to imagine that’s their first ilys sigh but yeah no darlin’s family life is definitely messy and i see them with a bit of bpd undertones in their behavior, undiagnosed ofc (stares at the camera.)

AND OF COURSE PERCY FEELS BAD WHEN ANNIE IS UPSET, Annie's the one that comes up with plans, she's the smartest one, he loves her and doesn't want to see her feeling sad. Annie being disappointed by something not going the way she wanted probably means it's something really bad and they cannot find a way to get out of this,and they're demigods, not being able to get out of situations usually means death, or it means that she's simply sad and he doesn't like it? It's his gf, he cares about her, and the thing about "felling scared of her" he's not scared, he just knows annie is fucking powerful, he said himself she's the most powerful demigod of their generation, and again, context, look at his fucking life, Percy never learned to deal with "normal stuff" in a normal way, if anything goes wrong, his brain response is going to react to this thing (even if it's small) in the same way he would if he was fighting a god, which is not Annie's fault, it's just PTSD, or do you want Annabeth to never get upset ever? Which leads to my last point:

I want to point out how fucking misogynistic of you to use an argument like "Percy doesn't like Annie bc she's insists on picking fights and bla bla", bc Percy does that too, or do I need to remind you abt the fight against Ares, the whole Luke situation, the first time they kissed was literally bc Percy was basically about to khs on that volcano, how is it ok that percy doesn't like when annie picks fights but not when percy tries to kill a goddess and annie gets scared? It's like "Annie has flaws and that's unacceptable but Percy is a flawless little boy that doesn't do anything wrong", Percy's allowed to be scared of annie, that's recognized as "he's suffering in her hands", Annie's not allowed to be scared of Percy bc "she's a bad person and doesn't understand their situation", Annie's always the problem, because apparently Percy is a little kid that can't do shit and she's a manipulative monster.

Let's be fucking real, you wanna hate annie because she's a complex woman that knows what she wants and has some flaws, she's human and has a fucked up life and laughs about trauma jokes bc their lives are horrendous and there's nothing they can do about it.
