Day Ten: Dungeons & Dragons AU
Mathias – A Sorcerer because he does a lot of different things in the hopes of helping those he cares about the best; he is willing to put his hand to almost anything.
Gabe – A Ranger because he travels a lot but also his planning mind works well with this character type.
Robbo – A Monk because he’s more the kind of person to try doing a lot in the hopes that something lands; but also he moves an awful lot too.
Sophia – A Rogue because in the gang she’s the one that sneaks around a lot, and this character type allows for this.
Ruby – A Bard because she does everything she can to support those she cares about. While she herself has a lot of power, this character type fits her best.
Jonny – A Wizard because he’s a highly flexible person when it comes to what is expected of him; he does this a lot for work, but is it in his personal life too.
Have your ocs play DND, make an au based off a classic DND campaign, or just tell us the stats of your oc in DND terms.

Superpowers Story Introduction
Determined to step out of the shadow of his mother’s legacy, Mathias joined the police department’s tech support team. He wanted to honour his father’s legal ways of making a living, rather than falling into the trap of his mother’s persistence that joining her would be better for everybody. However, when people with Abilities start causing havoc in the city, and Matt’s best friend needs his assistance in fighting it, Mathias begins to realise that perhaps his option wasn’t actually as easy as he’d first hoped; and a chance meeting makes him question exactly where the lines really are.
Taking over the family business was always part of the plan for Gabe following his uncle’s departure. It was something he’d been training for, but hoped he wouldn’t have to step up into for a long while because he was happy with being the planner of the group. Happy taking orders from his father and continuing to learn from him. But, when the gang return to a city sooner than they could ever have imagined, Gabe is willing to take on the extra responsibility with his father’s support.  Even if not everybody might agree with some of his actions.
The family gang was one of those things that Robbo always assumed he had to be a part of. Sure, he’d been told plenty of times that he didn’t have to stay, that he could go off and be a civilian – even if he only tried it for a few months of sabbatical. Never before had he really had a reason to contemplate leaving it all behind. Until a chance meeting at the local ice rink, and the reminder of just how dangerous it is to be a part of the Laverna gang, make him wonder what life could be.
Being a teleporting criminal was one of those things Sophia quickly realised would help the family gang in a way she wasn’t going to let slip them by, even if it meant having to hide it in the hopes of not getting negative attention from gangs who might accuse them of belittling the talents they’d all spent years honing. But, when a struggle for power in a city that was once a Laverna stronghold breaks out, Sophia quickly learns that sometimes having an Ability comes with tougher choices than simply not using them.
For as long as she could remember, Ruby had had Abilities. She’d never had any real reason to use them, and for her own safety her family had always suggested that she keep them hidden. However, when everyday people started to find themselves with Abilities, and varying degrees of responsibility with how to use them came to the fore, Ruby quickly realises that sitting idly by isn’t something she can wilfully do. With the help of her best friend, Mathias, Ruby tries to figure out how exactly she can help without putting the people she cares most about into danger.
Moving into the city with his cousin was one of those things Jonny did in the hopes of making life for the young man easier. The promotion offered to him with the transfer didn’t harm matters either. But what he hadn’t expected was to find himself dealing with Abilities, or the sheer number of them in the city. Partnered with a young woman who appears to have a vendetta against them, but cares when hearing about bad things happening to them in the news, Jonny slowly begins to realise that there’s more to the city than he’d initially thought.

Lilia and Ryan are a nightmare for the rest of the team; only because they constantly read people. It’s hard enough for most of the team to keep their emotions in check – half of them wear their hearts on their sleeves – but with those two in the room it’s near impossible to go unquestioned.
While the two of them might be good at keeping their emotions in check, the other can always read them. They know when the other needs someone and when they need to be left alone. In the beginning, it’s a bit of an annoyance, but as they grow closer its part of the reason for it.
Ryan has, on occasion, got Lilia to babysit the twins. Lilia loves it, and constantly teaches them new magic tricks – which they, obviously, tease Bozer about knowing when they’re old enough to do that.
They are each other’s wing woman. (I know they may have the same endgame, but if they were together, I don’t think that would cause an issue, and they’d always be there to help the other. Lilia needs way more help with flirting and things than Ryan though!).
If the team ever have a game night, these two are not allowed to be on a team together. They can read reactions too well for it to be fair. Though, Ryan has on occasion tried to make business deals with other teams while playing Monopoly.
If Lilia was to meet the Lavernas? She and Robbo would probably bond over magic tricks and trying to impress the other with the ones they know.
Sophia would probably be intrigued by Lilia’s ability to see lies, her penchant for mentalism. For her part, Lilia would find Sophia something of a mystery – her desire to be with the family, but also having a moral compass that allows her to shift into the world of heroes as well – that she’d love to learn more about. Obviously she’s used to Ryan, but to see another person with that kind of balance? That’s interesting.
As for Gabe, poor old Gabe probably wouldn’t know what to do. Another person that can read him, and yet she is the opposite side of the coin to Ryan in some respects. Probably would act as though he doesn’t like her – after all, she isn’t in his circle of trust – but if Ryan can trust her, and if the girls keep excitedly telling him about the fun things she teaches them, surely she can’t be too bad. He’d never admit that to any of them though.

‘still into you’ (feat. gabe laverna created by @foxesandmagic)
After all the excitement of the last ten hours, Gabe watched Ryan as she slept.
For the last few months, they argued over everything: names, where they would stay and for how long, their long term plan. But not for them.

He looked away from her to the two sleeping newborn girls. His girls. Ryan’s girls. Emma Grace and Sophia Marie. It hit him now; how real it was. It had been since Ryan told him she pregnant, but not like it was now.

An old thought passed through his mind. It had happened only once before a job with Ryan. The thought of running away with her. Only now it would be the four of them living the life that Robbo always said he wanted to have. The quiet kind where the jobs were 9 to 5, they drove a minivan, took the girls to games and recitals.

“What are you thinking about?”

His head jerked up. Ryan gave him a tied smile that still made his words catch in his throat. “Running away.”

She chuckled. “Like Bonnie and Clyde?” Ryan pushed herself up in bed. “I think your mom would kill you if you took away her grandkids. God help us if my brother finds out. He’s joked about being an uncle more than once.”

“Would you do it? Leave it all behind?”

Ryan sighed. “We won’t, Gabe.”

“What makes you think that?”

“I know you, I know myself, and if these last few months have proved anything its that we’d probably kill each other within two weeks,” she laid her head back. “I love you, Gabriel, I really do. But we can’t. We’re not built for that kind of life.”

“Never heard you say that before.”

“What?”

“That you love me.”

She rolled her eyes, smiling. “Don’t let that go to your head. Your ego is big enough. Now get some sleep. Those two adorable little devils are going to be waking us up enough soon that we need all the rest we can get.”

He nodded as she settled back in. It wasn’t long before she was completely out. He wouldn’t say it back. Gabe never would. She was right, they weren’t meant to be. Eventually she’d find someone who’d make her want to settle down. Maybe another girl would come along for him.

But in that moment, he loved her too.

Question for Gabe: do you think love or sentimentality is a weakness in your line of work?
Tumblr media
‘Yes,’ he answered, rather brusquely, before pausing for a moment, his attention on a picture in the corner of the room. 'It means that you don’t concentrate, you’ll make mistakes that can cost your whole team. Though,’ he said pensively, still not looking away from the landscape, 'there’s an argument for love within the team, more than just loyalty. A love of the work probably helps too. But in general: yes. Sentimentality is a weakness in this line of work. Though, I guess it’s what stops some people from going too far.’ The thought brought his mind to his siblings, to the way that they handled the work; the way Mitch loved what he did, and how that had never made him, Gabe, think less of their hacker. He thought of his uncle, who seemed to have no love for anything, and that made him shiver. He never wanted it to get that bad. Never.
A/N: This was actually really hard to answer, so thanks for that - it was interesting to think about! Gabe is an OC from my Supergirl fanfiction: Sidekicks and Criminals, with the sequel Pathways being written now. His faceclaim is Scott Eastwood.

Gabe didn’t want to admit it, even to himself, and yet deep down he knew the danger of ignoring it. Knew that in trying to push aside the fact his heart was thundering in his chest, blood roared in his ears, that his hands shook ever so slightly, would only make things worse.
‘Gabe?’
Sophia’s voice brought him back to the present with a bump. The weariness in her voice, the dark shadows lingering beneath her eyes, and the half-hearted attempt at putting her hair in a bun were all things that almost made him swallow his own words. But if he didn’t do this, he was no better than their uncle.
‘J’ai peur,’ he whispered, addressing the top of her head. Because that was easier; her eyes were too similar to their mother’s. Too easy to confess everything to.
‘He’s not actually a statue,’ she teased in gentle French, and Gabe couldn’t help himself, he caught her eye. There was a softness there, but also a resolve. A promise that she could bear some of this for him. A reminder that they were family, and that’s what they did for each other.
Sophia stepped aside, allowing him into the flat. Robbo’s door was pushed to. For once, not completely shut. A need for which of them, he wasn’t sure.
‘You could see him,’ she offered, closing the front door gently.
Gabe forced himself to continue the conversation in French; to not use the protective armour of Italian. ‘Not yet.’ He swallowed awkwardly passed the lump that had formed in his throat. ‘I can’t.’
‘This wasn’t your fault,’ she told him, a gentle savagery in her tone that caused him to arch a questioning eyebrow at her. ‘They’re simply monsters, Gabriel. It would’ve happened whoever was in charge.’
‘Not Vincent.’ Their uncle’s name tumbled from his lips like a curse, and oddly he felt a little better for it.
Sophia scoffed as she dropped into the corner of her sofa. Sitting, Matt’s jumper seemed to engulf her more, she almost seemed to get lost in it.
‘If Vincent had been in charge, we’d have lost him.’
The bitter truth was like a punch to the gut. Gabe eased himself to sit at the other end of the sofa, not trusting his legs to keep him upright. He’d tried not to dwell on the family rules he’d broken, all to save his little brother. Rules he knew had been drilled into their father and uncle that no family tie would make them deviate. His own compassion would have been viewed as a weakness. To him, it had been for all of the few seconds it took for Phia to call him a coward.
‘But you were in charge,’ she offered him now, reaching to give his hand a squeeze. ‘And we got him back.’
‘And they’re going to pay.’
A small smirk danced on Sophia’s lips as she moved her hand. When she spoke next, her words were in Italian, a spark of determination in her eyes that steadied him ever so slightly. ‘They won’t even know what hit them. But they won’t dare try something like it ever again.’

Gabe’s hands were shaking. For so long he’d kept everything in, tried desperately to hide his emotions from not only their enemies but also his allies. He was used to being the unemotional one, the one who wore a mask no matter the situation. Because that’s what his family needed from him, what they’d expected. His surname was a blessing and a curse for the simple reason it came with weight, with expectation. People were scared of Lavernas, but it always meant they knew where to hit.
It was that knowledge that had caused them to make the decision: Never negotiate for people. If somebody fell in the crosshairs, they were left behind. Being a part of the gang meant that had been accepted. The only time things changed were when people stepped back. Phia’s sabbatical had meant they could find her if something went wrong.
But Robbo was still part of the gang.
‘We can’t leave him,’ Sophia whispered, reminding him that he wasn’t alone in the flat.
‘He knows the risks,’ Gabe forced himself to say as he steadied his hands, as he tried to ensure there wasn’t a tremor behind his voice. For once, he was contemplating throwing the rules out the window. But he couldn’t have Sophia take the risk with him. It was enough he had to worry about Robbo, he couldn’t have his focus that divided.
‘You can’t be serious,’ she snarled, closing the distance between them. Anger seemed to crackle off her, eyes narrowed dangerously. If he was anyone else, Sophia’s ire might have scared him. If he wasn’t already terrified for Robbo, he might have been concerned that her emotions were getting the better of her.
‘Deadly, Sophia,’ he assured her, flipping to Italian as was the expectation of work. He needed to remind her that this wasn’t a family matter any longer. It didn’t matter he was their little brother, he was Junior in this moment. Part of a criminal gang.
She swore bitterly in French, her own battle lines drawn.
Gabe glared at her. Perhaps if he could anger her enough, she’d walk away. She’d let him think about what he was going to do, even if it sent the wrong message to allies and enemies alike. Even if it made his father change his mind about Gabe’s leadership ability.
But he knew that it’d never work. If he annoyed Phia into thinking he was going to do nothing, she’d go in there herself. She’d put herself in danger to protect Robbo, and he couldn’t have her going there alone.
With a reluctant sigh, Gabe switched back to English when he spoke again. ‘We go quietly and just the two of us.’
He’d barely finished the admittance before she was hugging him. He just hoped it was the right decision; that he wouldn’t end up regretting it.

Gabe was on edge, a feeling he didn’t like. He’d lived his whole life looking over his shoulder, waiting for the next attack. And yet, that had been normal. Now, standing in the living room of the little cottage Mikkie had insisted they look around, he was more nervous than he had been for a long time. Not that he necessarily realised the fluttering feeling in his stomach was nerves, just that he hated it.
‘What’s wrong?’ Mikkie’s voice was soft, and Gabe was grateful that she’d asked the estate agent to leave them to look for themselves. ‘Do you hate it?’
The question forced him to look at her. He knew she wasn’t really worried about it, but he could have sworn there was a slight hint of concern behind her voice. Still, there was a brightness to her eyes. Her hair was tucked carefully behind her ears, keeping it off her face so she could look around and take it all in completely unencumbered. He was surprised that she hadn’t already started sketching the view from the back garden.
He started to shake his head, but he knew she wouldn’t let this go. He might try and clam up, might try and dismiss the feeling that he couldn’t quite put his finger on even as it wriggled in his chest. She’d been trying to get him to talk a little more, to share more with her. It was a fine line between sharing everything and sharing the things she really wanted to know; what he was prepared to give voice to .
Perhaps Phia had had it right by laying everything bare at Mathias’s door almost immediately. She hadn’t really had a choice, but he supposed the balance was slightly easier for her.
‘Change,’ he said, practically forcing the words out, ‘is annoyingly difficult.’
Mikkie chuckled softly before moving to hug him briefly. He tensed at the movement, but quickly relaxed into it. ‘Too much choice?’
‘Yes,’ he said, pulling away from her. ‘Do you hate it?’
She scoffed slightly, shook her head so that some of her hair fell back over her face. ‘No, I actually kind of love it.’
Gabe nodded, shoved his hands into his pockets. ‘Good thing change isn’t impossible then,’ he said, before motioning her through the doorway. He might not like the change, might not quite be ready for this step, but he was willing to give it a go. For Mikkie. For a change that might just help him in ways he couldn’t possibly imagine just yet. A change that he hadn’t even seen coming until it was too late. Until his emotions had fully betrayed him and he’d fallen for Mikkie without really meaning to.

Gabe carefully drew his paintbrush across the canvas, leaving a trail of dark blue behind it in a curving line. It swept across the painting, accentuated the bright yellow crescent he’d painted the previous day. He didn’t know what this picture was turning into, only that every stroke was inspired by the music playing softly through his headphones, blocking the rest of the world out.
A hand placed gently on his back shattered his calm. In an instant he turned, knees slightly bent, fist raised while his other hand shifted on the paintbrush. If he needed to, he was ready to use it as a weapon.
His mother’s smile didn’t falter, and he slowly relaxed, carefully pulled one headphone away from his ear. ‘You’re getting better,’ she noted, holding out a plate of cookies. Gabe didn’t need to ask what she was referring to, he just knew that his reaction time was faster than before. ‘They’re sugar and lemon.’
‘Thanks,’ Gabe said softly, taking a cookie and offering his mother a very slight smile. Baking was how she coped with things, and he wouldn’t refuse the offer of baked goods at the best of times; least of all when they were the product of stress baking.

‘Gabriel.’ His father’s voice, the stern order laced even behind his name, and yet had every inflection of his father’s Italian heritage. It was enough to pull Gabe’s attention away from the image before him, and towards the man who had prepared him for this life. ‘This changes nothing.’
For all his attempts to follow his father’s teachings, the coolness of his voice now felt almost wrong. It jarred with something deep inside Gabe’s chest. More than the factual Italian he spoke in. The assurance that this was work rather than family. There had to have been a time when Italian was for family too, but Gabe couldn’t remember it.
‘Anyone working with them,’ his father told him firmly, clasping the back of Gabe’s neck, forcing his attention to him, appearing completely numb to the fact it was his own brother that had so obviously stuck the metaphorical knife in their backs, ‘is an enemy of the Laverna family.’
Gabe wetted his lips, desperately trying to alleviate a little of the dryness in his mouth. How was his father keeping his composure? If the same betrayal and consequences had landed with Phia, with Robbo, he wasn’t sure how he would have coped.
‘I need to hear you understand, soldato.’
‘I understand,’ Gabe whispered.
A very slight furrow appeared on his father’s brow, assuring him he’d accidentally uttered the words in English. Slowly, the hand clasping the back of his neck withdrew. An acceptance, however reluctant, that Gabe did understand. He could learn this particular lesson, even if he sincerely hoped he’d never have to use it.

Willow (Superheroes Story) dislikes hot drinks; however, she will have tea and biscuits because her best friend thinks it’s the cure all for any bad mood.
Gabe Laverna (Superpowers Story) is a lover of more than just art. While art is the main thing his family steals, he also appreciates the opera and most creative things, even if he’s never had much skill in them himself.

Not sure if you’re still willing to do it, since I saw it while scrolling through your blog, but #2 for the Altered Timeline would be interesting to see! ☺️
#2: The timeline in which they never met who would become the most influential or important person in their life, or that person was taken from them before they were capable of forming memories.
The most influential person in Gabe’s life is probably his father. If his father had died before Gabe was capable of forming memories, a lot in his life would have changed. For starters, he wouldn’t have his two younger siblings. He’d have been raised by his mother and their family, and his paternal uncle would have taken over the Laverna Gang. His mother’s family are a gang in their own right, but depending upon the circumstances behind his father’s death, Gabe probably wouldn’t know about that. His mother would have cut ties with that life, and tried to lead a mundane one instead.
It wouldn’t be a bad life – in fact, far from it – but there’d always be something about it that Gabe almost resented. Part of his personality strives for control, for something more, than he’d have. He’d still love his mother dearly, but there’d be nobody to rib him as much as his siblings do.

🩸🩺📎🧸 + your current muse(s)
🩸 - Does your OC believe in blood being thicker than water? (meaning family relationships and loyalties are the most important)
For Gabe, blood is certainly thicker than water. His family is the most important thing in his life, and while he is more forgiving of the gang members that are like family, they’re not family in his eyes, so he’s not as close to them.
🩺 - Does your OC accept help easily? Are they willing to admit when they need help?
Ruby will quite easily accept help; she’s a firm believer in getting help when you need it, and tries to practice this as much as she preaches. The only time she ever really has a problem with this is when there are tensions between her and whoever she thinks would be the best help – usually her sister Billie.
📎 - How organised is your OC? Do they keep on top of responsibilities, or leave things to the last minute?
Jonny would love to say that he was organised, but he really isn’t. He can keep on top of responsibilities, he is just does leave most of them until the last minute. Mostly with personal things, however. At work, he’s reasonably well organised.
🧸 - On a scale of 1 - 10, how ‘soft’ is your OC? 1 being the edgiest of edges and 10 being a literal teddy bear that cries at everything? (Bonus questions, where on the scale would your OC place themselves, and where would they like to be on the scale?)
Robbo is about a 7; he’s not the kind of person to cry at everything - bit hard to be given what his family does - but he isn’t completely stoic. He’d probably put himself about there as well.
