Changed my plan with my PC.
I'm going to buy all the other components first, and then the GPU last.
With the CPU I chose, I'll be able to game before I get a dedicated GPU. It has integrated graphics and is, on its own, more powerful than my entire current laptop.
So, I'm ordering my case tonight, and I'll slowly buy the rest of the parts after.
I've decided I want to do this because just gaming with the new CPU is gonna be a considerable jump in performance, and I know that'll be very satisfying. Then, I'll get another huge jump when I'm able to buy the graphics card. I think I'll appreciate 2 boosts more than just one.

@vmprsm replied to your post “Raw MKV rip of Mission Impossible: Fallout:...”:
Theoretically, if one wanted their own copies of the MI movies safely on a hard drive....where would one go?
I mean, there is a site where you can acquire a lot of movies via torrent. I tend to use (rot13) 1337k.gb and I got a heavily discounted Windscribe VPN subscription that I use on almost all of my devices.
But my thing is that... I want commentary reels and special features, and sometimes you'll download a movie but the fucking subtitles are either bad or they become desynced over time and I haaaaate it.
So I've been gathering bits and pieces over the past year to get a Plex system going in my house and it works like a fucking DREAM. But it requires some investment. If you just want to have a few local copies of your favorite movies, this is way overkill. But me, I am canceling all of my family's streaming services and pivoting to our Plex.
So what I have for actually getting the files:
Tumblr media
I don't have this model but it's similar to this, a Pioneer External Blu-ray Reader. It sits on a little shelf and is connected to my PC by a USB cable. (I think I got mine for around 68 bucks so you can wait for a sale.)
I use MakeMKV which will rip the big honking raw files from a Blu-ray and leave them as matroshka (.mkv) files.
Because these raw files are ENORMOUS, I compress them in Handbrake. Handbrake is wildly powerful, can convert file formats and make them super small. I have my Handbrake set up special to dump all the non-English language subtitles and audio tracks to save space.
(SUPER BONUS TIP FOR HANDBRAKE: If you have a dedicated GPU, you can give Handbrake permission to use it, and it'll compress shit literally 10x faster, love it.)
At the moment, I am using a Western Digital portable 5TB external harddrive because it was one sale and I couldn't beat the price. Eventually, I want to upgrade to two 10TB HDDs so I can keep a full backup of everything I'm ripping. Because this is a bit of a time and energy commitment and I don't wanna lose all my progress here!
At first I was running Plex off my desktop PC and that worked totally fine, but my family hates having to touch my desktop to wake it up every time, so I very recently grabbed one of these guys:
Tumblr media
This is a Beelink Mini PC S12 Pro. It is small enough to fit in my hand but it is a speedy little demon that runs Windows 11. (And eventually I am gonna use it to firewall out ads from our entire home network, I'm pumped for that project but ANYWAY.)
The upside of these mini boys is that instead of being a hefty workhorse like my main computer, this is small and has a low-power draw.
So I moved my Plex Media Server to the mini PC, plugged in my 5TB drive of movies, and now everyone in the house can easily stream anything I have added to the library.
Tumblr media
This is what it looks like, if you're curious. Any device in the house that runs Plex and is signed in can select any movie or TV show I have and just watch it like it was Netflix or something.
A month ago, I has like.... 65 movies? Now I'm ripping a few and we're gonna break 100 soon.
"But Arc, where do you get so many blurays!"
My local library.
When I lived in Broward County, FL, I had an extravagantly wonderful library system. Tax dollars at fucking WORK, y'all. Now I live in Georgia and the library system is not nearly as good, but I have still gotten my hands on a frankly ridiculous amount of blurays. Every week I'm picking up 3 to 10 movies or shows, taking them home, making good copies, and returning them.
All of this is an investment and it is work. But as someone who built my computer, built my keyboard, cracked my 3DS and PS Vita-- this is fun to me! This is what I love to do. And through doing it, I've seen more movies in the past year than the last ten years put together.
So yeah, I can't recommend this to everyone, but if you wanna get out of your subscriptions and to just have high quality shit on demand, this is what I'm doing.
Cannot stress this enough tho, if this seems interesting to you: wait for sales. All the components here go on steep sale if you wait patiently. Take your time assembling the parts and keep in mind that shit is modular, you can upgrade parts later.

Okay, poll time regarding an important purchase in my day-to-day life.
In short, I am ready to upgrade from my (glances to the Acer laptop that's been dead for a year) laptop...
I now have a very big budget (it's considered big in my country) that I got over the summer to finally spend it on an upgrade.
I need a poll because now I got an idea to buy a PC, which is dangerous territory for me for numerous reasons. Some background: I haven't had a PC since I was 14, I got my laptop (which is dead now) right as I entered high school, and it was a cheap one, it couldn't even run Minecraft without lagging which at the time pissed off my gamer childhood self.
But, as a functioning, employed adult, I finally did it. I finally saved up enough money to buy a new device.
The accesibility & portability of laptops is def what I need overall for my professional life. They're not a MUST at my work place at all, but it would be NICE to be able to access my documents on laptop & edit them there or during the way home rather than go to the office again for the PC.
Here’s the thing. The laptop I can afford is not better by performance against the gaming PC I can afford.
Why a gaming PC?
Because I am a whimsical little shit. I see a program and I want to master it for hobby's sake, or just cus I'm that curious. What if I one day want to pick up Blender or 3D sculpting or some shit just to try it?! It's happened before, and it continues happening. I jump from hyperfixation to hyperfixation like a ping pong ball. A laptop at the price range I want to buy won't be able to run complex games or Blender.
The childhood me, in my soul, wants that freaking PC. But my basic normal thought process is also aware if I get a gaming PC it may distract me from my work bcs... Well the PC will be able to do EVERYTHING. At least I'm self-aware enough of that.
Another thing is...
Durability & longer-life & upgradability
I can always upgrade the PC, I know my way around PC hardware. The PC will last me longer than the laptop probably will, and I can't upgrade the laptop.
But then I have no portability & always-accessibility the laptop offers, and if I get the laptop it will be for work, Photoshop & fic writing if I get used to it (I won't, I hate writing on laptops). Which is perfect, I'll be able to do my work even on the go, I can carry it with me, etc etc and I WON'T BE DISTRACTED.
So! I guess, vote bcs at this point I'll toss a goddamn coin! And before anyone asks, no I won't put the Macbook on the list, I like having my liver, thank you.
My biggest fear is that I've grown so used to the laptop interface if I buy a PC I'll just take time re-configuring my brain to use it, so what if I hate it? I have so many fears, and I don't want to waste my money and then go like "ugh, I'm disappointed". I'm used to reading on the laptop, typing on the laptop, working on the laptop, etc. I have all PC peripherals except a monitor but the IT stores are having huge discounts & sales now I can grab one from anywhere at this point so that doesn't concern me a lot.
This is a purchase I'll treat myself with for my birthday. I've spoken to friends, some say laptop, some say PC. Anyway, here is the poll. I'll put it for today.
I just love both but I have to pick, but I can't. Laptop is more familiar to me now than a PC 🤣 a PC would be dangerous cus I will def get the urge to play games instead of WORKING, but on the off hours it'd be a party 🤣
For info, the
PC would be
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5600
GPU: RX 6600
RAM: 16GB
That is the overall idea and I even found a custom pc builder in my country, too, if the prebuilt ones are too expensive, haha.
Laptop Models:
Lenovo Ideapad 3 with Ryzen 5, 16Gb RAM, Integrated Intel GPU
Lenovo V15 G5, also Ryzen 5, 16gb ram, integrated Intel GPU

Not too bad but a bit crazy update
Hello my darlings, quick update.
I have a new computer.
This was not planned at all, my older computer was older and I would take to pc laptops to update.
This time it was cheaper to buy a new computer than to update and fix my older once since the gpu was completely out of date and I couldn't update it....
without an updated gpu art programs don't really work, that for sure I know, other things I have no idea what was going on my computer ... and I was working on commissions and my computer had a crazy stoke, I lost everything from photoshop that I was working on.....
So, I went to best buy and got a computer on sale... this one... Its a gamer computer I was told, and I have no idea what the differences are, but it cost the same price as other home computer due to the sale and I was told its better for graphic arts ... so here we are...
I bought the tower, went home hubby tried to install, But the monitor was my first ever monitor from 2009 and incompatible .. Went back to best buy... bought the cheapest I could find.... there wasn't much selection at the time... anyhow then... the moment of truth... The reason I started all this.... so my wacom cintiq could work again.....
DAMN THING WAS NOT COMPATIBLE....so this was definitely not planned ... I cant work without it....
So my husband used our car and part of our mortgage money and bought me a cintiq...
its an investment that is true... its for work and book.
I wont be able to draw digital art until it arrives sometime on Wednesday this upcoming week.
I still need to take my older tower to best buy so they can put all my art in a chip thing and I can put all my files into the new tower.
what's really annoying is that I did loose 2 days worth of work on 3 projects and I will have to start over this week.
So yeah this is what happened....
Its been a crazy week to be sure.
Life made margaritas this time with all the lemons, But for sure I'll have to start the end of the year earlier this year to make up for this...
My poor bubby, bless his heart installed everything gave me so may kisses and said, I was worth it and so was my work! Gosh I love him! But I can see how stressed he is now as well because we used money for important bills... tsk tsk tsk

"ai"s, another rant
Consider: what is the product? Most of these "ais" (large language models) are "free", but you get only a few rounds for free. It's like a casino, you ask a thing, get images, and you can roll again if you liked it enough.
There are many of these LLMs that say in their TOS that they may save, sell and base their new generations on the images you produced. That they will access your computer data, save it, may even sell it. Some even proposed to use your own computing power, CPU and GPU for these.
But the money comes from somewhere - namely, bitcoin, nft sales and now, premium generation with ai, and lending them out for rent to companies. This is where the LLM companies get their money. The way they can replace artists, and get whatever they want, even if it breaks the law or worse.
Many articles rely on fake news dreamt up by a LLM textparser. Fake images circulate. Many dictators love to doctor images, and now thry got it even faster. Truth is being harder to find when it is easier to fake.
The product is you. Your gambling addiction. Your artistic efforts. Your truth. Everything the internet was meant for. All of it is now for rent, for sale, and to be reimagined by techbros who don't understand the systems they want to ruin as long as it makes them money.
Consider again: bitcoin ruin the economy of the little people and make a few rich. Nfts ruin online markets and videogames, and make a few rich. "Ai" ruin art and text and news, and make a few rich.
There is nothing to be gained in it. It is a toy for a bunch of gambling addicts in the 5% who want to be the 1%, and now, thanks to many big companies taking these, the tool for megacorps to get even richer by spending even less.
Imagine, Warner Brothers gets their own. They can start producing a movie, announce it, then can it, delete it and start anew. No spending beyond paying the energy and water bill and the server costs, but there are no people involved. They can produce for anyone, remove any piece, use any bodies, living and dead, for anything, from selling slop to playing the big bad. They have to spend less and you got to pay the same or more. Why would they even finish any movie? Just produce a slop, toss on a streaming service, then remove and make more, half of them go for tax refunds anyway.
It is a tool for instant gratification for you, and then more cash for the top? Yes. It is.

🤔 PC parts go on sale pretty often, plus there are a ton of budget guides online. Parts can also go for cheaper too depending on if you're fine with shopping for used parts. There's also websites that tell you what parts are compatible with the ones currently in your cart/that you're looking at. I won't go into in-depth recs since you've said you're not too invested in FPS and resolution (which is fair, I'm just a nerd who studies up too much on this stuff asjdasd) but as a general tip, consider what quality/performance you would like to play your games at and go for that over 'highest number' since that's a pretty easy trap to fall into. Budget, and what you want out of it, always takes precedent over the bigger number. There are countless videos going over how to build a PC, though pre-built computers are always an option (downside is that they're not very cost-effective, since it's the price of the PC plus hours spent assembling it and any other miscellaneous costs). Big general tip for budget PC shopping is to prioritize the GPU, it's the real powerhouse when it comes to quality/performance. You can get a pretty good PC for as low as around $900, and while that's still quite a bit of money it's nothing compared to how price-y higher end builds can get. I hope this was helpful in some way! If you have any questions at any point I'd be happy to answer them, I'm not uber knowledgeable on PCs but I do know a thing or two 😌 if it wasn't helpful, uh... full refund on this Tumblr ask (a whopping $0 in returns)
oh this is all super helpful!!!! i know a little bit about building computers and buying parts because my partner built his (and i also built one with my dad way back when...)
my main problem though is that i don't have space for a desktop computer. it's just a small apartment and i've already got my work setup from my desk (i work remotely on a work computer) so i do all my gaming on my laptop that i have hooked up to my TV (which also gets me out of my chair, which is nice, because i already spend too much time at my desk LOL)
so if i do get a better PC, i would get a nicer/updated gaming laptop, which is unfortunately a bit more expensive... 🥴 i'd also feel so bad getting a whole new computer just so i can have better graphics on DD2 LDKJFALSKDFADS especially with my rapidly deteriorating work situation... 💦
thank you so much for taking all the time to write this up tho! if i ever do have some setup changes and decide to go the desktop route, this'll be super helpful 💕

Dell AI PCs: A Gateway To AI For Life Sciences Organizations
Tumblr media
AI in the Life Sciences: A Useful Method Using Computers.
For life sciences companies wishing to experiment with AI before making a full commitment, Dell AI PCs are perfect. The Dell AI PCs are revolutionary way to get started in the vast field of artificial intelligence, particularly for clients in the life sciences who are searching for a cost-effective way to create intricate processes.
The Dell AI PCs, GPU-enhanced servers, and cutting-edge storage solutions are essential to the AI revolution. If you approach the process strategically, it may be surprisingly easy to begin your AI journey.
Navigating the Unmarked Path of AI Transformation
The lack of a clear path is both an exciting and difficult part of the AI transition in the medical sciences. As it learn more about the actual effects of generative and extractive AI models on crucial domains like drug development, clinical trials, and industrial processes, the discipline continues to realize its enormous promise.
It is evident from discussions with both up-and-coming entrepreneurs and seasoned industry titans in the global life sciences sector that there are a variety of approaches to launching novel treatments, each with a distinct implementation strategy.
A well-thought-out AI strategy may help any firm, especially if it prioritizes improving operational efficiency, addressing regulatory expectations from organizations like the FDA and EMA, and speeding up discovery.
Cataloguing possible use cases and setting clear priorities are usually the initial steps. But according to a client, after just two months of appointing a new head of AI, they were confronted with more than 200 “prioritized” use cases.
When the CFO always inquires about the return on investment (ROI) for each one, this poses a serious problem. The answer must show observable increases in operational effectiveness, distinct income streams, or improved compliance clarity. A pragmatic strategy to evaluating AI models and confirming their worth is necessary for large-scale AI deployment in order to guarantee that the investment produces quantifiable returns.
The Dell AI PC: Your Strategic Advantage
Presenting the Dell AI PCs, the perfect option for businesses wishing to experiment with AI before committing to hundreds of use cases. AI PCs and robust open-source software allow resources in any department to investigate and improve use cases without incurring large costs.
Each possible AI project is made clearer by beginning with a limited number of Dell AI PCs and allocating skilled resources to these endeavors. Trials on smaller datasets provide a low-risk introduction to the field of artificial intelligence and aid in the prediction of possible results. This method guarantees that investments are focused on the most promising paths while also offering insightful information about what works.
Building a Sustainable AI Framework
Internally classifying and prioritizing use cases is essential when starting this AI journey. Pay close attention to data kinds, availability, preferences for production vs consumption, and choices for the sale or retention of results. Although the process may be started by IT departments, using IT-savvy individuals from other departments to develop AI models may be very helpful since they have personal experience with the difficulties and data complexities involved.
As a team, it is possible to rapidly discover areas worth more effort by regularly assessing and prioritizing use case development, turning conjecture into assurance. The team can now confidently deliver data-driven findings that demonstrate the observable advantages of your AI activities when the CFO asks about ROI.
The Rational Path to AI Investment
Investing in AI is essential, but these choices should be based on location, cost, and the final outcomes of your research. Organizations may make logical decisions about data center or hyperscaler hosting, resource allocation, and data ownership by using AI PCs for early development.
This goes beyond only being a theoretical framework. This strategy works, as shown by Northwestern Medicine’s organic success story. It have effectively used AI technology to improve patient care and expedite intricate operations, illustrating the practical advantages of using AI strategically.

Well. I'm kind of annoyed that I waited that long for the Big Sale on Amazon just to have almost nothing on my wishlist go on sale, and even similar items were barely discounted at all (or worse, price raised a few days before the sale to claim it was a huge discount).
In other news, however, it turns out the GPU I wanted was $40 off on Canada Computers and based on price history, it's kind of a huge drop that won't ever come again. So I just spent $377 and now I'm going to go die.
