Imagine being THE most powerful wizard in all of Exandria and you have this insane plan to release a godeater because you know, fuck the gods. And you spent centuries perfecting this plan and forging alliances with trained killers and this five minded entity from the moon and the unseelie court and you have an entire army behind you. You start a war with a neighboring country so that you can get this ancient artifact to power your moon bridge and you set up a scheme to try and kill the lover of the champion of the matron of ravens so he’ll show up just for you to put him in an orb. And then you try to absorb your general’s essence into your body so that you can become the vessel for the godeater ONLY for you to get forcecaged by a blue man who just got out of the house this year.

The world’s most indecisive group of people—repeatedly given unearned power by others and incapable of facing their own flaws—want to use a godeater as leverage to force gods (who had been literally locked out of their world for 800+ years) to become mortal under threat of letting the godeater eat them, and they definitely can be trusted not to change their minds, become comprised, or otherwise fuck this up.
Don’t worry that they’re mortal and will inevitably die, this is definitely better than locking up the godeater in a prison that worked for thousands of years until one of the most advanced pieces of arcanotech (now destroyed) created a bridge to the moon using power siphoned from three realms, an imprisoned divine champion in a gem, and an apogee solstice that only occurs every 120 years. That’s too easy to replicate.

I forgot to mention it while watching the episode, but the wooden jellyfish engagement gift from Chetney was SO sweet, a genuinely touching a full circle moment for Fjord and Jester's relationship.
I also liked the ensuing conversation, prompted by Fjord, to discuss some ideas for the wedding and to express his excitement about it. It creates a really nice bookend on Fjord and Jester's time in this campaign. It was always clear that Fjord was confident about his engagement and genuinely excited about the wedding, as discussed briefly with Jester as they settled down for bed in the Tower. But, it was very true that he carried himself with an air of anxiety whenever it was brought up due to just being constantly nervous over Living In Interesting Times, so it suffused all of his conversations due to how silly it felt to be discussing wedding details while you were on mission as a clandestine strike team (!) to kill a group of heads of government (!!) on the moon (!!!) to stop a godeater from killing the entire pantheon (!!!!). Fjord and Jester having the opportunity to talk about the wedding — and get incredibly competitive about some details — felt like a nice button on that, since it was already present in this campaign, to give them both the time to talk about something they're both so excited for without the pressures and anxieties of cataclysm bearing down on them that were very much affecting him more overtly. It felt like a good moment both for him to express unmitigated excitement and for her to feel reassured once again.
It was a short moment, but very sweet.

Maybe I am a minority here but I really don't want the world to view BH as villains. They genuinely do not deserve that and in my eyes, it would be both unfair and unwarranted. This group of outcasts, who are made up of their pain and trauma and have barely been making it through life, lost or left alone. This group that claws itself through life, day after day, feeling unaccepted. Nobodies, all of a sudden pushed into the spotlight of the world. A group that continues to sacrifice and worry and hope and fight and a group that just wants the best for the world in a complicated situation with no perfect answers. It wouldn't be right at all to say they are betraying Exandria, in my opinion. They are trying to subdue the threat of Predathos permanently, at the cost of their own lives, their own safety and sanity. They are trying to bargain, with fate, with gods. For people and the gods themselves. They stopped Ludinus, but there is no stopping the change he has brought. No stopping the fact that the world knows and looks to the moon and the cage and the godeater inside.
They are just trying. They are tired, they were chosen and pushed and pulled and they are trying.

Saw a post about how Predathos (battle) and Predathos (lore) don’t vibe bc this bunch of mortals were able to use some divine boons to kick the ass of an entity that was very much aware of them
Here’s my justification
1) Predathos hadn’t had anything to eat since they were beaten down last time and locked in a moon*. They were starved and absolutely the weakest they had ever been, which is why the Hells were able to do anything
2) Predathos had eyes on the Ruidisborn because they each carried a little bit of Predathos in them. Eyes were super focused on Imogen once it took her as the vessel. It needed her to get out of the cage. It only started paying attention to the Hells when they wouldn’t get out of its way
3) it did have the power to nom on the divine, but that was mostly healing focused and yeah that did seem to entirely be a nod to mechanics bc if it could consume all things purportedly gifted by divinity then all spells would have been off the table and the fight would have been… really boring and one sided. Divine smite shouldn’t have done shit I will concede that but also Matt wanted to make things fun for his players / Sam
4) The corruption effect/Molaesmyr : Predathos did eventually turn the exandrians on Ruidus into a whole bunch of other things. But like, that took a lot of time. So Imogen, carrying a temporarily subdued godeater, probably is okay to be around for a relatively short period of time. Her and Laudna might have to work some things out tho. I am writing Molaesmyr off as almost entirely a fuck up by Ludy
5) it seems like the gods can’t move *directly* against Predathos without becoming lunch meat. Anything they personally threw against Predathos would have been turned into power that made it easier to eat them
* just now realized that the reason why the names of the two dead gods were hidden away wasn’t as like a power play on infallibility or whatever, but that worship of their names would have fed them and that resurgence of energy in their mostly dead forms woulda been like a lil pudding pop to Predathos

I feel like every time I hear "Bells Hells broke their word", there's this omission or forgetfulness (and I get it; this campaign feels like it took forever and it's easy to tune out conversations that feel circular and unending) that Bells Hells knows that if the Raven Queen and the Arch Heart were forced to comply by the rest of their family, the Divine Gate would be rent asunder and there would be a second Calamity in order to wrench things back to the status quo – that being the gods are all safe and protected and no one knows about Predathos.
The only reason it didn't happen already was the gods had hope Bells Hells would kill Ludinus (which they did); if Ludinus had defeated Bells Hells then the Gods would have immediately busted down the Gate and commit another Calamity in order to stop him... but the Raven Queen and the Arch Heart made it sound like the Second Calamity would happen regardless of who won, and all because the knowledge of Predathos the GodEater, their most feared predator, was out there.
But, Ludinus disseminated that information across all of Exandria, and there's been information exchange between Ruidians and Exandrians. The only way to take that information back would be to kill all the Ruidians AND kill every single Exandrian, just to be sure. Wipe the slate clean. Start over. Destroy every magical and non-magical record, including the people.
There would be no bargaining with the gods without Predathos, for they are too strong and would have no reason to listen. Any parley of "can you Gods leave forever, or can we leave the Hallowed Cage alone or have Vasselheim turn Kreviris into a military-religious controlled state colony" (that's a Bad Thing) would be met with "or we just kill the entire planet and moon so the information is guaranteed to be lost and there can be no more attempts at freeing Predathos". The Prime Dieties would grumble about it, but they would still go through with eradicating the mortals they love because they prioritize themselves and their Betrayer siblings more than mortals. We have proof of that.
I feel like the Gods broke the social contract first. If we want to point fingers at someone breaking their word, they should be included as well.

the amount of shit dorian storm is going to come back to is going to be hysterical, actually.
okay so there's a city on the moon. and a godeater in the moon. and imogen and fearne are cursed kinda by the moon. fearne has made pacts with twelve different evil creatures of unimaginable power and will continue to do so and also she might become evil. imogen's mom is actually alive and working for an evil wizard dude. she has lightning tiddies now. and this evil wizard dude is trying to crack open the moon like an egg to get the godeater to eat the gods because he's mad at the gods because of aeor and avalir. btw laudna is haunted by her abuser. we thought it was a metaphor for her trauma but no that bitch is actually in there and we need the gods to stay alive to purge that bitch. ashton is a titan and also a beacon and also fucking blew themselves up to tell a tree to fuck off and stop trying to dictate their life. fcg is a murderbot and also now a religious zealot with a long distance boyfriend. orym has fucking snapped and if you look at him funny he'll cut you nuts to navel. also his boss' boyfriend is being used to crack the moon egg.
oh and chetney got therapy. :)

OKAY LISTEN so I think ludinus wants to absorb predathos to become an eternal godeater mage like there's no way this guy just wants to help some moon people immigrate to exandria the man lives for the drama
also while we're on the subject is anyone else concerned about the magic mound (derogatory) that hungers on the back of his neck or is it just me?

It would be very them if Bells Hells manage to sort out the deiphagic moon/the robot uprising/the neopagan Hishari posers/evil lady in your head disease; and as they’re wiping the sweat from their brows, all Exandria’s remaining cohesive governments approach to politely ask them to get the hell off this plane of existence.
They’re very nice about it! They’ve found a neutral bit of the Feywild close to a stable gateway, or alternately there’s a lovely bit of the Shadowfell—the real estate market is in an upturn there. It’s just that the husk of Delilah Briarwood, Liliana Temult’s godeater spawn, two fragments of Titans (housed in an Unseelie experiment gone rogue and a survivor of a splinter sect that famously perished meddling with forces beyond their reckoning), an aeormaton given to accidental heresies and homicides, and an alarmingly influential toymaker are the sort of lightning rods for trouble you don’t want in your post-global turmoil political environment. Even Orym’s different and won’t say why.
The best time to stop a doomsday situation is before it starts! So if they could just take this treasure, everyone’s thanks and best wishes, maybe bring their friend with a Betrayer God’s relic on her head with them, and skedaddle for a few decades. Go visit family. Your contributions will be remembered, your sacrifices are appreciated. Leave before you acquire any more ancient powers predating the planet itself.

I can't think of a specific question, but I'd love to hear anything about Godeater ! That wip scratches a very specific itch in my head it's very satisfying <3
hi after 80 years i’m finally answering this teehee 💀
something i haven’t fully talked about is how The Under mirrors The Upper.
like The Sun, The Waning Moon is “guarded” from those who would sneak to snuff out its power. however, the waning moon doesn’t have as much power as the sun, so not many go after it; leaving the “guardians” of the moon more freedom to do as they please.
the guardians of the waning moon are the 6 SINS; some of the first demons to defect from the upper after lucifer. the most powerful of the sins is avarice or “ava” (greed) and i’ve talked about him a bit before (and i love him) but i don’t give the other sins as much attention so let’s talk about them!!
also as a side note the sin gluttony doesn’t exist. why? cuz ava killed him :))))))
anyway tho:
(1) IRE (the SIN of wrath) -> she/her
ire is the resident hot head of the sins and the second shortest, taller than ava by a mere inch. she wears her hair in spiky ponytails, half red, half purple, and while she has a bad attitude she actually avoids cursing and tends to insert nonsense words into her speech when she gets really upset. she loves sweets and cute things but hates when people call her cute. very much a “that’s cute i want to break it” energy. she’s the third strongest of the sins but the most likely to whoop some ass bc of aforementioned anger issues LMAO.
(2) HUBRIS (the SIN of pride) -> he/him
literally the most flamboyant fag on planet earth i’m not even joking. he’s a diva and a model; tall and pretty with long hair and thick lashes. he’s overconfident but also loves to hype other people up, and can be extremely dramatic, his emotions a constant whirlwind. he cares about people very very deeply and always wants to lend a helping hand or ear to those in need. he’s actually the second strongest of the sins but is perhaps the least likely to use his powers. he hates blood and gore but if you really manage to push his buttons (he keeps them secret so it’s less likely) then he’ll tear you (the bitch) apart :3c
(3) PASSION “SION” (the SIN of lust) -> they/them
sion is team parent, the second eldest of the sins (younger than ava by a tad) and always looking after the rest of them as though they were their children. they’re very patient and mature and seem almost conservative in their appearance… though what they get up to in their own time is between themself and their partners lmao. despite being lust, like ava is greed, lust extends to a variety of different things and their thirst for companionship, care or affection runs deeper than only surface level sex. if they want something they want it in every way they can attain it. ava considers the two of them the most alike; very unassuming but carnal in every sense of the word :)
(4) APATHY (the SIN of sloth) -> he/they
the most similar to his calling card of the entire bunch, apa tends to be the most lowkey of the sins. he’s the most likely to stay behind and watch over the waning moon, and while he isn’t always a napper he does prefer a sedentary life. he does hibernate tho i need to figure out when and how, and to compensate stays awake 24/7 without needing sleep when he’s not in hibernation mode. low fi beats, music, and pillows are his jam.
(5): COVET “COVE” (the SIN of envy) -> they/them
cove is the youngest of the sins and has a big inferiority complex in being so young. they don’t have as much power as the other sins, and their childish ways do get the others to look after them quite often and they just want to be wise and powerful already. secretly they do enjoy the attention and enjoy being babied which is something ava and hubris tease them about a lot much to their chagrin, and they usually have a monopoly on sion’s time; the two of them go everywhere together. as they continue to gain exposure to the waning moon’s light hopefully they too will become just as powerful a sin as the rest of them :3

CRITICAL ROLE SPOILERS (c3 e49)
.
.
.
.
.
Still thinking about this beautiful conversation between Laudna and Imogen. So emotional, so reflective, so deep, so full of love. And I know that some people are sad that there are no kiss, but does it matter in that case? I even think that such gesture could ruin the moment and make them (especially Laudna) feel awkward and distant from each other (Imogen for sure). And they really have to be sharp on their target and don't need anything to distract them, especially if they both not sure and it could go south pretty quickly. I would prefer them to be both alive by end of this, happy raising horses in the middle of nowhere and be whatever they are right now forever, then dead but with rewarding awkward full romantic scene check before Suicide mission.
I think after all this Rudius staff is finished, they allow themselves to take further steps, at least I see that Imogen almost there and could try something after world burden will fall from her shoulders.
However, I also have a weird feeling that this might be the big climatic moment of this campaign and it will be ended much sooner than c2 or c1. Not sure what could top up Godeater on the moon arc, but hopefully I'm wrong and we will have at least another 30-50 episodes with those weirdos.
P.S. Relationships between Laudna and Imogen in their current state kinda remind me relationships between Xena/Gabrielle and Haruka/Michiru, which without any explicit romantic scenes and kisses were able to show deep connection between two people in love. Dedicated to each other, ready to die for, tethered beyound one life, tragic from some perspective. Basically, they are true soulmates.
