gil: holy shit tarvek's mom what. what? what. tarvek's mom was shut away in a sanatorium for the heavily-implied crime of having a wolf bond, in the sanatorium where they secretly raise wolves that break psychic bonds, and then she died. oh no i need to get him out of here get him safe let him have a breakdown somewhere i need to call agatha but i can't she's busy elsewhere hhh agatha would fix this somehow fuckfuckfuck

I have once again re-read "Mercy lives not in the holly" and am too embarassed to leave extra comments, so I came over here to thank you again for writing it. It's got such an emotional punch. It breaks Agatha down through pain and trauma and re-builds her through her own resilience and bonding with the people around her, and I feel like your writing pulls me right along into that re-birth cycle. Very cathartic, thank you for posting it!

awhhhhh thank you. i'm still so amazed at that one tbh, it basically punched me in the face one day all like "hey wanna speed run agatha's emotional arc from chapter 1 to castle arc in under 7k words? let's go." and i was like "yeah ok but slow down i can't write fast enough aaaaa" which probably contributed rather a lot to the train of thought telepathic discussions and also quite like "oh no i can't type if i can't see the keyboard through my TEARS". XD i'm super glad it still works for you even after several reads. it's probably one of the best emotional writing i've done so far.

…Okay, I honestly was not expecting Tarvek to be already tangled up in finding Gil attractive; obviously I was too deep in Gil's kinda demi himbo POV xD. Good on Tarvek for at least being aware that he finds Gil aggravatingly attractive? Tarvek's life is Also Suffering, good fucking grief. (I was the GG psychic wolves anon, in case you didn't guess.)

ahahah XD yeah, violetta really wasn't kidding when she said gil broke his heart. he's had a crush since childhood, not that he knew that at the time but he sure as hell noticed when he hit puberty. poor guy had lots of confused "sword fight that ends up pressed against a wall making out with a fencing sword on someone's throat" fantasies XD he's a total bi disaster. agatha is the safer choice emotionally and they're already trusting and flirting so it has progressed further, but i would not say his base attachment to her is stronger, if you take out all the calculations on how likely it is that the object of his affections will reciprocate and not destroy him with a "i see you! and despise you" rejection.

meanwhile gil is so demi that him being "friendship officially cancelled with That Weasel" means he totally deleted "he looks attractive tho" from his brain and now it doesn't compute. even though deep down it computes pretty nicely. XD but gil is having massive problems with sexuality in general, especially since being bonded with a female wolf means people assume some really unsavory things about his sexual behavior and he knows it.

HOPEFULLY tarvek's point of view would be mentioned later on when they finally TALK ABOUT THINGS but, it's gil and tarvek. so i might have to. lol. but honestly it was a lot of things that i hope were visible through gil's himbo POV, like "Oh No we have to pretend to kiss this is torture (because i want it to be real uuughgh)" and "you know prostitutes??? you get LAID????? oh you don't you just talk maths with them haha of course. hahahaha. phew. i don't have to imagine it and get jealous/horny."

ok there was also the heart attack with jorgi showing up out of nowhere and being like LOL HE HAS NO CLUE THATS HILARIOUS. jorgi is a jerk and tarvek doesn't know why he even bothered to keep him. u_u

so i got an idea with GG wolves verse where Hadrian Greenclaw and Vanamonde von Mekkhan are perpetually going “LOOK WHAT YOUR WOLF DID” over Ivo's shenanigans, as they both refuse to admit that Ivo is their wolf and not the other guy’s wolf, and then they fight, and then they hook up, and then Ivo’s like “Mission accomplished”. but it wouldn’t gel into an actual fic but the idea was hilarious; so here it is.

so in this verse agatha is never getting married bit that doesn’t stop her and tarvek and gil from having a huge fancy not-engagement party. which of course, shenanigans happen trying to organize the mess.

ivo: "i found the courting gift!!!!" van: "the STOLEN courting gifts? ok show me" finds like ten dead guys and hadrian nearby van: ... ivo: "see! courting gift for you!!" >:D

but i am not writing it because it died as fast as it was born.

now i’m writing bleach wolves chapter 6 instead and making it more interesting for me by having random-ass arrancar show up, making them less random because mila rose’s sword is leona and ggio’s is tigre estoque which means of course that they’re pantera’s babies and THAT means ggio calls grimmjow mom.

Question! In the girl genius wolf brothers fic, are the multiple heterodyne wolf bonds more of a cultural thing or an actual psychic difference thing?

both! :D

1. psychic ability is slightly different -- stronger ability to piggyback on each other’s bonds so that distance matters less which brings in more wolves and humans and binds them more closely,

2. the breed itself has been selected toward wider and wider trust-in-all-of-my-human-pack whereas other wolf breeds are still selective and don’t like strangers much, and haven’t been bred to phase that out very much because noble aloofness is seen as important in a wolf, so a difference in general temperament,

3. culture treats it as totally normal and it’s how they learn to communicate from birth, so they might as well do it too.

Another wolf species raised from a cub as a heterodyne would behave the same way re: accepting several closer bonds, but wouldn’t have the same ease with distance and pack minds of over fifty individuals, whereas heterodyne wolves routinely handle 200-500 hunting packs.

honestly, “normal” wolves only bond to their humans one by one because being shy and antisocial makes them super selective, and humans bought into the “i was CHOSEN by THIS ONE it’s a SACRED AND EXCLUSIVE bond” thing. heterodyne wolves are very much HI WE’RE FRIENDS NOW because domesticated, but like, they’re domesticated the way a guard dog would be. you’re potentially friend until you’re an intruder, and then you’re dinner.

ok so GW psychic wolves fic ended up not happening, so GG one is the one i’m trying desperately to complete before tonight, because tonight is the LAST DAY aaaaaaa.

so i’m like “ok i just need to quickly transition gil and tarvek from university to Other Spot! it can be done in two lines and then i can Complete my Scene”

what ended up happening instead:

-gil has friends of little virtue

-brief gay crisis quickly resolved back into the usual weaponized naiveté

-tarvek fondles gil’s wild and sexy locks (and probably fondly dreams of going to town with scissors and three liters of product)

-what if... what if this scene needed... a JORGI :O

gil is still not even there yet. i don’t even want to know what else is gonna surprise!happen. ughghgh.

"Oh, it's the heat scene."

Agatha slowly pinkened. Tarvek spluttered, snatched the book back; Gil made a whimpering noise.

"Oh, no need to be so alarmed!" Anevka bent down to pick up the next one in the series. "They don't get any less blindingly euphemistic until at least book three."

been idly trying to figure out what the Muses would be in the girl genius psychic wolves AU and i cannot brain it. quoting from a reply on AO3:

I honestly have NO IDEA what the Muses are in this 'verse, if they're humans or wolves or something else entirely. They have no place in the plot so I never bothered to figure it out, but it's so difficult to decide if they would even exist considering how artificial they were -- but on the other hand Punch and Judy exist and they were also made from scratch in canon. (kinda.) and usually constructs are wolves, but so are zola and bang, who are humans in canon!! i don't have any solid guideline to lead me to go "ok they're similiar to X, they should also be X".

also they can't be Heterodyne wolves if they're wolves, so Tarvek couldn't bond all nine of them at once, but if they exist they HAVE to be his, so they can't be wolves, but then if they're random humans then how do they work as symbols of his kingly inheritance which is SUCH a major theme for their characters AAAAAAA.

It’s not very important because they’re not part of the plot even if i do figure it out, but if anyone has suggestions i would enjoy hearing them.

(note, in the past of this ‘verse still exist, same as book canon, cave trolls and svartalfar -- elf/dwarf creatures from nordic myths. neither are attractive by human standards and both are considered long since extinct by the time the GG fics happen though.)
