↳ summary: you ask your distant and cold professor for some help with your thesis. good thing he seems to be an expert on fear
↳ warnings: mentions of murder, booze, guns, and some gore. canon type gotham violence. a wiff of stalking maybe?
↳ song: aleph—gesaffelstein
masterlist!
University life wasn't much different than you had expected. Television and movies glam it up to make it sound like the peak of your young adult life. A time for exceeding expectations and drinking cheap booze out of those weird solo cups in a random person's basement. But this was Gotham—where crime is the highest in the country and misfortune runs galore. The closest anyone got to walking into a stranger's basement these days was with the threat of a gun at their back.
In preparation for the quote-unquote finest school Gotham had to offer, instead of going out and buying the list of supplies your school recommended, you simply lowered your expectations. Not like there was much to begin with in the first place. You could get a protractor later.
Your thought process proved to be worth it too. Barely an hour into your first day, the campus was evacuated as a precaution for a major villain sighting in the area. Something about filling up a building with highly dangerous gas. As of weeks later, details still hadn't been released to the public. That was fine by you. All you cared about was not getting ripped away from your precious lunch again.
The campus cafeteria was drafty and smelled of mold, parties were thrown way too often, and most of your professors were stern with classes people only took so they could get their degrees.
In that case, Mr. Crane was no different from any of the other teachers.
There was certainly no lack of students in his class on the first week—the largely female percentage most likely gathered because of his pretty face. But by the end of it, over half had already dropped out.
You were not one of them. Somewhat regrettably, you had begun to think after hours of pouring over papers in just the first week. But you needed this class to fully understand your thesis topic and you'd be damned if you moved all the way out to Gotham for nothing.
That was what you were thinking about as you rounded the back row of Doctor Crane's class, staring blankly at the missed call from your mother atop your phone's home screen.
It had practically become a ritual for her to call you at least once a day since you'd moved to the city. Anytime you didn't pick up, it would send her into a frenzy—despite your multiple explanations of why you have your phone on silent during lectures. But that wouldn't stop her from constantly pleading for you to come back and finish getting your degree at home. Because even if it would take longer, and completely drain your bank account, at least you would be away from those lunatics. Or so she called them.
"You have nothing to worry about." You'd told her one time while watching a bowl of ramen bubble angrily on your stove. "Even if I was mugged or something, I'm sure the Batman would save me."
It had been meant as a half joke, said only to quell your mothers worries. Yet the more and more newspaper stands you passed on your way to the store, the more the vigilanties name came up. Often accompanied by the words HERO or SAVIOR afterward.
The sudden memory of newspapers stopped you right as you were about to cross the threshold from the lecture hall to the rest of the building. You were quick to turn around, flipping your phone back into your pants pocket loosely before approaching the professor's desk. A few more students filed out from behind you, one even tossing you a wave, before it was just you and the professor left.
Doctor Crane was nothing short of intimidating. Everything from the clean cut suit he worse, to his icy blue eyes—and even his second title as lead doctor in the nearby Arhum Asylum—was surrounded by an air of stoic professionalism.
The man hadn't even been there on the first day of school. Something that would have off-put you if not for the sudden evacuation, haulting any chance of first impressions. Instead, he had shown up the next day like nothing had happened: lips pressed into a tight line and eyes dull as he spoke to the class without really looking at anyone.
He had made it clear on multiple occasions that he was rarely available after class or for tutoring hours, but you doubted that even if he was, nearly anyone would show up for a one on one conversation.
Looks like you would have to be the outlier today.
You waited patiently as he shuffled from one stack of paper to another, eyes never once drifting over the rim of his glasses to look at you. Occasionally you would catch a glimpse of his usually devoid face break into a little frown before making a mark on a paper and moving on. You resisted the urge to peak and see if any of those papers were yours.
"Yes?" He adressed you by your last name suddenly. Packets and papers continued to shuffle. This time he did spare you a glance, a flash of something swirling in his cold eyes before disappearing. Or maybe that had been the dim light. It had been to quick for you to catch.
You cleared your throat before speaking; adjusting your bag unconsciously.
"I had a question or two for you about my thesis topic." You said with a level tone. He asked what it was somewhat dismissively, his monotone way of speaking ever present.
"I've been researching fear and its effects on the human brain for quite sometime, so I felt it was only fitting for that to be my topic."
That seemed to gather his attention. When you looked up from your examination of the plain black stapler on the corner of his desk, you were met with one raised eyebrow. His hand was writing on the stapled essay before him considerably slower.
If you squinted hard enough it almost looked like he was smiling.
"May I ask what has garnered your interest in such a subject?" He pressed. For a moment your mind went a little blank, not expecting such undivided attention from him. It was unnerving, concidering that before today he probably didn't even know your first name.
"Well, I've always been interested in how much emotions have a grip on the mind." The words were now tumbling from your mouth in a flurry of half-baked thoughts.
"It was only after moving here that I really realized how it can affect an entire city, much less just one person. Everyone knows how absurd the crime rates here are, but I don't think they've ever seen the stark contrast in the Gotham residents from, say, another neighboring city.
And not to mention there's a whole group of personas parading around the block inspiring pure fear. When the bigger crimes aren't outwardly released to the public, I'm starting to think the ones the police can cover up are being covered up. I did a quick search of specific types of crimes related to the patterns of people like the Joker, Bane, and Scarecrow, and too much adds up for it to all be a coincidence."
You reminded yourself to breathe. You knew you were passionate about this subject—hence the decision in thesis topic—but you were never this chatty with it. Something about Doctor Cranes' unwavering stare drew it all out of you in one go. He was a surgeon at the moment, prying your brain apart from the inside out and turning it over in his hands.
Or maybe you were over analyzing things again.
"And what do you think of this Scarecrow?" He had stopped grading now, plucking the clear rimmed glasses of the bridge of his nose and folding them neatly beside him. In a second, his icy blue gaze seemed to intensify in strength, pinning you in place like a specimen of his to observe. You made the brief connection between this and a lepidopterist pinning up butterflys by their wings. It was quick to leave.
Instead you thought back as news clippings and articals flashed in bold print on your mind. Pictures of the victims he had since left behind followed.
Most of them had died from shock or poison, toxins coursing through their bloodstream too fast for their bodies to handle. Not a wonderful way to go, but it was no better or worse than the dozens of mugging gone wrong that occurred everyday. If you ignored how they had all clawed their eyes out in terror, that is.
Your response came slow and methodical, words chosen with care. You were well aware that people had been thrown out of prestigious universities for speaking their minds about less, and you couldn't afford that right now. Besides. He had asked you a question. Who were you to deny him?
"I think what he's managed to make, to do, is a breakthrough in the scientific and medical field." If your professor noted the way you swallowed thickly he didn't say anything.
"What else?" It was almost like he knew every thought that crossed your mind before it even formed. As if he had been preparing for this exact moment.
You could continue. You could tell him that you'd started sitting by your thoroughly locked window at night, waiting patiently to catch a glimpse of a masked maniac. You could tell him that monster was the exact thing that pushed you to move to Gotham. You most certantly could tell him that you wanted to get your hands on that gas to do some tests of your own—see exactly what this Scarecrow had managed to create.
But instead you looked to the left and told him that was it.
"Well if that's all, I would like to continue this conversation at a later date." Doctor Cranes glasses were back on now as he stood up and began gathering his things.
"I'm not sure—"
"I'm quite interested in what you have to say." He adressed you by your last name again, shutting his briefcase closed with a chilling click. "After all, I have written some papers on this exact subject."
You know. You had read them in your search for more information on the Scarecrow's toxin.
"I'll keep that in mind, professor." You glanced at the doorway, wondering if it would be unacceptable to make a dash for it. You didn't want to be late for work any more than you were already. And if you were being honest this conversation had taken a turn you weren't prepared for.
By some grace of god he let the conversation drop. Not caring to spare another glance at him, you took to the door, planning out the route home in your head.
If he watched you go, you didn't notice. It wasn't until you had gotten home in your stained work uniform, beat up trainers grayed with labor, that you noticed your folder for his class was missing.
"Shit." You dragged a tired hand down your face, kicking off your socks as you lay next to the spread out compartments of your backpack.
You sighed. Looks like you'd be seeing Doctor Crane again sooner than you thought.

ands snippet: fast and furious
Summary: Vivienne delivers on a promise and expected only the self-satisfaction of a “job well done.” His Dark Grace decides otherwise.
or tldr: the batmobile's first, official iteration gets its christening 😏 (making out + some d/s vibes) this is a write up of this post on how bruce (the batman, really) and vivienne "get together," originally written to entertain @rozaceous (and here's the link to the og concept) the gist is that it's pre-NYE party debacle, ros and vi are practically u-haul lesbians but it's no one's business (not even their authors') how involved they are with each other, and ros and bruce have not resolved their UST yet.
“—and there might be tolerance issues with the panels, but they should be resolved by next month.” Neel Singh, the Experimental Manufacturing lead, concludes his briefing and falls half a pace back.
“We’re not racing the clock, Neel.” Vivienne jots down her thoughts in her notepad, and adds, “The winter holidays are coming up. I don’t expect anything more until February, the earliest.”
“Y-Yes, of course.” After pressing him for continuous updates for the past few months, of course he’d feel discombobulated by the sudden release of the gas pedal, so to speak. Neel pulls out his phone to type a message. “Should I call anyone else to show you around, Vivienne? Someone from Facilities for the test track?”
Vivienne looks up and out past the glass, into the indoor test track where the subject of their discussion sits parked. All aerodynamic sleekness and curves, the diffused polish of a practical matte black coating, and the intuitive physical sense of power and nimbleness in its form…
Now that—that is her son, midwifed by the hardworking and circumspect members of her handpicked team.
A thought comes to mind. “We’re dealing with carbon fiber, yes? RTM process?”
Neel nods warily. “The team assessed it to be the best fit for purpose…”
“Let me see the molds. And I may have some thoughts on the trickier shapes.” At this point, it’s better to do things right than to play coy with knowledge. There aren’t any patents on the line, or papers to publish.
Bless Neel—he’s not the most inspirational team lead out there, but the man can get things done, keeps track of his flock, and does not put them in the line of fire if he can help it. It takes the entire hallway’s length to convince him that no, Vivienne isn’t here to take heads and draw blood. And yes, she does have some experience with composites. Thankfully, what she knows and has retained is relevant enough for their use case.
The setup tour and the technicians present are all of acceptable quality. There’s nothing wrong with their process, per se…
“I appreciate the team’s rationale in using vinyl ester. However, in application, the easier forming and mechanical properties with using epoxy should make it an appropriate trade-off,” she declares her verdict. No one is impolite enough to interrupt her (or they’re not green enough to), but the manufacturing team does exchange serious side eye among each other.
When dealing with technical experts, care must be taken to speak their language. Always acknowledge someone’s hard work, and give good faith that they’ve made their decision with good judgment behind it.
And, of course, one should give explicit reasoning when suggesting an alternative. “We won’t be seeing the same type of corrosion nor UV exposure on average, or most of the expected causes of catastrophic failure”—here, Vivienne meets their gazes directly, pausing deliberately so they get her gist— “will render long-term considerations, hm, superfluous.”
Various noises of scoffing and muffled chortles come from the team before her. “It’s likely to explode, GTA-style, before we care about actual sunlight in Gotham,” someone mutters. “Got it.”
Bonus: appeal to their good humor, show that you’re on their side. Show that if they work with you instead of against you, everyone benefits.
“Then, we’ll put the order in for epoxy instead?” Neel announces to the group.
“Let me liaison with the Testing guys, see which specific one they recommend,” one of the technicians answers while the others debate quietly between themselves. “And we need to check the MSDS for any changes needed.”
“Shouldn’t be much—I think we can relax some of the workflow, too,” another one calls out. “It’ll go a lot faster this round.”
Neel turns towards Vivienne, implicitly waiting for her approval.
“Go ahead,” she confirms. “No rush. You should have enough budget; if not, CC me on any requests.” She waits for Neel to nod before turning back to finish her notes.
One of the technicians whistles low and, undeterred by his coworker’s elbow to the gut, asks out loud, “How the hell are we getting the funding for this? It can’t be government.”
Vivienne pauses, looks up to raise an eyebrow at him. She gives it two seconds—enough to make it awkward but not enough to be aggressive—before answering nonchalantly, “Does it matter? As long as we can all go about our day without the mob brazenly shaking people down in public, or an attention-seeking wack job gassing the streets and locking down the expressway, I do not care.”
The emphasis nets her a “fair enough” gesture and no further questions, with the general atmosphere being one of jocular compliance and satisfaction.
Very good.
She turns to Neel, while announcing to the group at large, “That will be all. Everyone should make sure to confirm with my PA on their way out, so you all can receive your bonuses in a timely manner. Have a happy Thanksgiving.” Then, more directly at Neel: “I’ll meet with Facilities before closing the site for the holiday. Official half-day.”
He gets her unspoken “clear everyone out” order and turns to usher the technicians along, all while starting a phone call with other leads in the testing facility.
---
Vivienne takes the scenic route towards the direction of the Facilities Management suite, walking leisurely to keep her baby in her sights the entire time. She returns absent hums of acknowledgment to the people that greet her along her way, dismissing them when they try to ask if she needs anything, and eventually, the facility is empty.
Instead of turning into the Facilities suite, she goes to the nearby elevator to scan her card and wait.
The building lights dim to their low-occupancy standby state. Then, one of the shadows in the empty hallway distends into a vaguely humanoid form, stalking forward until there’s a glint of whited-out eyes.
Ever the dramatic. His Dark Grace’s penchant for positioning is comically perfect.
“I assume you’ve looped the cameras?” Vivienne tilts her head towards the Facilities suite.
The Batman gives a little, “Hm,” and continues towards her and the elevator.
Yes, duh. Vivienne doesn’t roll her eyes. It’d be wasted on this bat-shaped mime.
She instead flips her notepad to a later page, where she’s noted down the information received from Facilities via email a week ago. Meeting with them was entirely unnecessary. Her mind runs through what would be the most efficient loop of comprehensive testing—and if they waited until sunset, she could set up and open the outdoor portion of the track for “realistic conditions.”
It’s rather easy to ignore the looming shadow next to her—she’s had practice and more important things to think about. Normally, anyone impolite enough to look over her shoulder at her notes would be told to back off, but here she can hope that he’d absorb some proper methodology for fucking once. To be fair, any thought of “proper” leaves her head upon reaching the ground floor of the track.
The so-called “Batmobile” is gorgeous. If not in her heels, Vivienne would have sprinted over to him.
Her beautiful baby boy.
She tucks her notepad and pen away into her handbag, and loops the shoulder strap across her torso. All hands are needed for properly admiring this work of art.
“Ah—the slight ripples Neel mentioned,” she talks His Dark Grace through the visual inspection. “Project Lead Neel Singh,” she adds for clarification, letting him know who and what to satisfy his paranoia. “Yes, the matrix voids will be easier to mitigate with the modifications to their vacuum assistance setup, the tooling support, and of course, not using vinyl ester. More workable.”
She walks around the car, eyeing the front and back tires, noting the height of the chassis, and internally debates the optimum between aesthetics, performance, and practicality.
“Hm. This tire size is special order, but still commercial-off-the-shelf. The concern is that typical road conditions won’t allow for anything lower, but we need to balance the handling with the overall weight…especially since the chassis will be so lightweight.” She backs up and takes in the whole of the car’s form. “I…I’m actually a bit worried—we might not have the right balance between the aero and weight for the CG, being not for track purposes, so we can’t go as low as actual motorsport designs—”
“—then let’s test it,” Batman cuts through her fretting. He’s been following along with her inspection, practically hovering over her the entire time. The fingers of his gauntleted hand carefully trace where she was pointing out, trailing behind her hand’s path. “That’s why we’re here.”
Credit where credit is due—that’s true. At least he didn’t immediately demand to do so; his interjection is a polite ask, the bat and all things considered. And Vivienne wouldn’t have let him within a zip code of her new son if he wasn’t ready to handle. She can allow His Dark Grace some fun, for once.
She takes out the prototype key fob—slow enough to rile up the menacing furry next to her—and clicks. The doors unlock and pop slightly ajar before she dangles the fob in front of Batman.
He’s finally trained enough to be polite during their handovers; he takes the fob from her possession without force, and waits for her to situate herself in the passenger side before getting in himself.
“No helmets. Well, you better not get me killed,” Vivienne says blandly when Batman starts up the car. He purrs, lovely and smooth like a spoiled cat. “Or I won’t offer custom hubcaps. Ones with little bat decals.”
There’s a faint smirk on His Dark Grace’s face. “I’m better than that.” He teases with a brief revving of the engine.
The test track comes into hyperfocus in front of Vivienne; on a whim, she clicks an additional control up top near the rearview HUD of the car that opens up the gate to the outdoor track. She can recognize the adrenaline building up—it’s what follows a good challenge, either mental or physical, and she welcomes it with relish.
“Let’s see it, then,” she nods towards the gate, unable to help her toothy grin in return.
---
Her baby boy “handles,” is what Vivienne can say for now. She didn’t expect the response to be buttery smooth on first iteration, and for something experimental. The seeds of something are present—His Dark Grace pulled them into two hairpin turns in sequence—and coupled with the snappiness, she thinks they have an unpolished gem in their hands. The car is like having a barely tamed big cat, leashed up and ready to let loose on one’s orders.
It’s fucking exhilarating.
The stupid showoff figures out how to manage the car quickly enough. He pulls another turn that lets them slide perfectly against the side of the track into the bay that’s meant to be a small pit area. The uncovered half of his face is not as expressive as he pretends to be, day-to-day, but the expression present is full-on cocky as hell.
(Honestly, Vivienne can admit to liking it—or at least, this is much more tolerable than the public-facing himbo she needs to politely shake hands with whenever he deigns to muck around at the office.)
“Proven enough?” His typical growl is less forced, and more of a pleasant rumble that harmonizes nicely with the idling engine. In the full furry get-up, subtle side glances and all that aren't really possible. His Dark Grace turns to stare at her, goading for a response.
The cowl and the whited-out effect of the lenses are eerie up close, but dealing with the devil is much less intimidating when one has leverage. In Vivienne’s case—he knows she’s capable and motivated enough to possibly add something like a kill-switch to the car, just to fuck with him if he pisses her off. His Dark Grace wants her baby real bad, and with proof of concept she can probably get him to do anyt—
Hold up, Vi, say that again? Her inner Ros stops that train of thought.
“Differential adjustment shou—well. Acceptable,” she gives him the compliment, leaning back into the seat with a more relaxed posture. They never make the ergonomics of them fit for anyone of average height; her hairpin has slightly loosened from how the back of the seat rubbed against her updo, and she pulls the pin free to restyle her hair. She feels the Batman’s stare as he waits, and she keeps him waiting. “You’re competent and quick on the uptake. Adaptive.”
Wrangling the Batman was the equivalent of wrangling a division of egotistical engineers working at the cutting edge of everything—all very competent people that will step on each other’s toes, get in each other’s way, and are too used to being correct that they forget their purpose. The balance was slightly off here, becoming the classical joke of “one horse-sized duck or a hundred duck-sized horses.”
But everyone has their leverage points, and all are susceptible to The Carrot versus The Stick in personalized ratios and applied judiciously. Vivienne didn’t aim to do anything as Machiavellian as put the Dark Knight of Gotham under her thumb, but that’s where he somehow ended up. She, by sheer grit, found the winning combo of getting him to listen to her—at least when it came to nonsensical designs—and actively soliciting her opinion. She’s not dumb enough to lose that leverage when she sees it in her hands. Maintaining it requires work: showing agreeableness to an extent, with the occasional reminder that he’s in her territory and he would do well to remember it. A little flick to the ego, occasionally.
It helps to put into perspective that, at the end of the day, Bruce Wayne the Batman is nearly five years younger than her. Engineers and technicians under her, the ones ranging from two to ten years younger, with a plethora of tertiary degrees between them—her mind can’t help flagging them as “children” until they temper themselves with a real project, from bid to deliverable.
So, of course her brain demoted the fucking CEO of her company and its parent conglomerate to being a “boy” as soon as he called her Lucius’s PA. She has found no evidence contrary to that ever since. With him neatly categorized, accounting for unique attributes and handling, Vivienne knows very well how to deal with “boys,” because she wouldn’t have gotten this far otherwise.
“Hah. If you had wrecked my shit, as with your typical M.O., maybe I could’ve gotten a nice dinner out of you tonight.” Her tone is intentionally sharper, diction and accent more crass with the habitual New Jersey attitude rather than her usual featureless cosmopolitan speech pattern. Dusk was here, steadily eating away the evening hours as autumn progressed. They’ve stayed later than she anticipated, but…
…for once, in a very long time, she was having fun. The evidence is on her teeth—she was grinning wide enough to catch some of her lipstick on her canines, which her tongue can clearly feel the slick of it.
“Well. We’re done here. Keep up with”—she gestures at the whole of him with a dismissive hand— “that well enough, don’t piss me off, and maybe you’ll earn your new toy by the end of next quarter.”
That whole posturing—after prolonged proximity and the hot-and-cold of seemingly hard-won praise versus snide dismissiveness—is supposed to make His Dark Grace harrumph and skulk away.
Today, he grabs her hand. It’s not violent or anything, but he doesn’t touch her. She’s lost her temper enough to jab her finger in his cowled face, and he’s been taken aback enough and in the position to let her. He’s never touched her.
That—that’s not in the script.
His Dark Grace continues to stare at her, his exposed jaw not quite clenched enough to denote a possible temper tantrum incoming. So, she minutely cocks her chin up, adding a slight challenging tilt to her expression with a raised eyebrow and the slight baring of her teeth in a sneering smile. What are you doing? Are you really—really?
He has her wrist with his left hand, and his full attention and facing is towards her. The right hand comes closer. And because he doesn’t pull her that she lets him, it’s so much closer until—of all fucking things—she feels the gauntlet leather past the corner of her mouth and pressure on her teeth.
The thumbpad has her lipstick stain on it from him wiping it away.
She scoffs, half-between a laugh and an incredulous squawk, and tries to tug her hand away. It doesn’t budge. “How badly do you want this car?” The tone isn’t right—wrong mix of scathing versus levity. And yet, it seems to draw him in closer, the tireless masochist that he is. “Didn’t I say ‘don’t piss me off’?”
“I’m hoping to do the opposite.” This close, he doesn’t bother with the growl at all. He’s almost inaudible over the engine. The lipstick-stained gauntlet cups her jaw, the thumb carefully avoiding her skin, and he leans in when she doesn’t resist.
What the fuck. What is happening. Did he bug the apartment, overhear the sleepover-bullshit talks with Ros?
It’s fascinating, clinically speaking. From what Vivienne’s heard of local gossip, especially among the secretary pool and their particular brand of romantic fantasizing, the Batman is expected to be rough. Wild. He’s supposed to fulfill all sorts of “tall, dark, and handsome” daydreams and lonely imaginings at night, along with fighting crime—what a busy guy.
So, to have him soft and insistent at her mouth, but more like asking for permission than forceful, is a fascinating gap between expectation and reality. He’s not a shabby kisser at all; the playboy types usually have something else going on that makes everyone else do the work for them, and they get to reap all the pleasure. That is apparently not the case here.
Eventually, he pulls back so they can breathe and reassess.
Vivienne looks. She really looks—his face may be mostly covered, he’s still staring, but he’s flushed, visibly steadying his breathing, and her lipstick stains his mouth in a viscerally appealing way that makes her want to lick her teeth. He’s paradoxically much more exposed than she is.
And with that, His Dark Grace is really such a pretty boy—something Vivienne has constantly lamented with Ros over for his pissy attitude. He’s perfectly amenable now, though.
“You really want this,” she says this again, her free hand coming down to pat the console between them and leaning closer.
He’s still a cheeky shit, though. “I want it,” and tilts his head again, ready to close the distance at her say-so.
She means the damn car, but— “Then you’ll have to work for it,” and she closes the distance herself.

[KD READS] Captain Marvel's Storybook: Captain Marvel And The Gargoyle Men
BE WARNED: LONG POST AHEAD
Recently, I have discovered that there are still other Captain Marvel-related book titles that I haven't found yet, one of them is the "Storybook", where most of the story is in short novels with occasional comic book panels. I'll be writing a TL;DR for the 4th issue of this title because it's the one that I could find a clear scan to
I recommend you read it yourself though, because words can't describe how I love Billy's descriptive broadcasting/thought process
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mr Morris sent Billy to Egypt for an exciting scoop accompanied by his old friend, Prof Parkman to Egypt to uncover a tomb. By the time he got to Egypt, he rode with the professor on a jeep
Tumblr media
but it was a bumpy ride and Billy tightened his grip on his seat, the driver stepped on the gas and it lunged Billy off from his seat, in a split second, Billy wanted to summon Captain Marvel, but he didn't want to, not yet. Billy went unconscious after that.
The Professor and the driver carried the boy to camp and called the doctor to check on Billy. The Dr stripped Billy, and ran his fingers over the ugly abrasions and contusions, making sure he was all right after being thrown off a Jeep
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By midnight, while doing his broadcast, the egg the crew had mentioned earlier hatched, Billy couldn't see the monster but he grabbed onto it. Normally he could hang on tight, but after the Jeep incident, he's still weak
Tumblr media
Billy lets go of the monster and tells the crew about it. The professor and the doctor claim that an Egyptian Magician or the hot desert sun must've played tricks on Billy and write it off
"We shouldn't have let him go on the air at all. I'll give him some pills, He'll be all right tomorrow."
When Billy was put to sleep, The professor told Mr morris about the story, which Mr Morris gloated, "I knew Billy would Get a fresh slant on those old Egyptian tomb Stories!", thinking that the monster the boy encountered was fake
Tumblr media
The next day, Billy and the Professor found the tomb and began uncovering it, only to have a land slide happening each time. While that's going on, Billy overhears a conversation between the driver and an arab, conspiring to kill the crew.
Tumblr media
Billy later warns the professor and has several men guard them while Billy starts his broadcast. Back in the US, many people tuned in to WHIZ, and in a few hours, Billy's broadcasts were already on the top of the charts.
Tumblr media
With Billy's voice stopping abruptly and the shouting of men, the shootings, heard by the listeners, they cheered on for the Boy Reporter to be safe.
Tumblr media
Billy would apologize for the dead air, and described the creatures they'd shot: Bipedal creatures with faces like gargoyles-"Just a minute, THEY'RE COMING BACK!!" Billy shouted
more gunshots are heard, more wailings of the Gargoyle men terrify the listeners.
Tumblr media
A ghastly silence filled the thousands of radios. The soldiers screamed but Billy Batson was off the air from his station in Egypt.
Tumblr media
Scientists would calm the listeners down, telling them that Billy is having hot weather hallucinations as it is very common. The Listeners gradually relaxed after being comforted by an expert in the field.
Meanwhile, Billy and the professor returned to consciousness, finally meeting the gargoyle face-to-face, creatures that could imitate faces and voices of people around them, this gargoyle imitated the voice of their driver, and the driver himself had joined the gargoyles.
Tumblr media
The gargoyles stuffed the crew in molds, making perfect duplicates of the crew
Tumblr media
The monster duplicate saw Billy and grinned, "It was Billy's own grin. He looked like the kind of fellow you would be glad to know, glad to have in your home. And he walked right up to Billy, as though he were an old friend, and struck Billy a crushing blow in the teeth"
The sun sets and the professor discovered something dire about these gargoyles.
Tumblr media
"What are we going to do?" asked Billy
The professor shrugged hopelessly, "I am a man of science, not of action. I don't know what to do!"
The crew would overhear the Gargoyle's plot to release their eggs to the International Egypt Airport to spread the Gargoyles around the world.
Once Billy found a small opening for his mouth to breathe after being enclosed in clay, he shouted the magic word.
Tumblr media
Marvel would later catch a glimpse of the Queen controlling the gargoyles and charged towards her.
Tumblr media
The queen commanded her gargoyles to kill Captain Marvel, but as the Captain dodged, she flung herself on him, Marvel would loosen his cape and flung her back, her body wrapped around the white cape. Her gargoyles, still mistaking her as Captain Marvel followed her orders, "KILL".
And so one by one, they struck her down, and Captain Marvel would hear a piercing agonizing scream. Once the queen was dead, the rest of the Gargoyles followed suit.
Billy would then return to his broadcast, not reporting the gargoyles ["I think we had better not say anything about this, we'll make excuses as much as we can, blaming it on the desert heat. The terror is over now, there's no need to frighten people unnecessarily"]. Instead, Billy reports on the tomb he was visiting earlier.
The ending has the driver going insane and dies, Billy read about his death on a newspaper
Tumblr media
I love this type of storytelling because it shows me an insight to what Billy's thinking at a moment in greater detail, and a mutual of mine said that the ending is similar to a Greek story. IAlso love the part where Fawcett citizens are immediately panicking once they know their precious boy newscaster is in danger that they'd want to speak to the manager (MR Morris XD)
Honestly, there are so much that I left out in this story to make this tumblr post, if you are curious, here is the link to it
Bye for now!

oh so life update i discovered that my basement is full of white mold last week. it’s coating multiple floor joists and infecting all of them. my landlord isn’t taking it seriously and is being a dick about it, per usual. he said he was going to treat it himself by spraying a vinegar solution. he was down there for like 5 minutes, no PPE, and when he finished he was like “oh i didn’t realize it until i got started but there was some bleach in there too,” and then walked out the door before we could tell him that he JUST MADE CHLORINE GAS. HE FILLED OUR BASEMENT WITH CHLORINE GAS. I COULD SMELL IT IN THE BEDROOM. so we had to leave while the house aired out. thankfully we already had the cats somewhere else, i didnt want them home in case my landlord did something stupid during the “treatment” and fucked something up. it’s like i’m a prophet. anyway, i haven’t told him that he made poison when he mixed bleach and vinegar yet because i don’t know how to broach it without him starting a fight. i’ve been in contact with poison control and i’m going to talk to the housing authority. we’re looking into trying to get a mold removal consolation and inspection ourselves just so i can get an expert opinion on if the amount of mold is hazardous, and if so, how hazardous, and what can we do. it sucks. it all sucks a lot.

My TTRPG OCs
Alright there's a bunch but lets get into it. They'll get a blurb here, and I'll add hyperlinks as I give them their own posts.
Vampire the Masquerade:
Faith Meade: Backstory | Viewforth by Night: I / II / III Faith is a Sandman Ventrue full of Catholic Guilt™ and Autism™. She's a brand new fledgling who has immediately lost her sire and fallen in with the wrong crowd, notably including her new accidental father figure, a Camarilla Tzimisce. She is not fucking coping, she is not hinged, she is not okay at all, she averages more than one mental breakdown a night. She juggles this, and her highly eventful nightlife, with a successful career as a Sales Trader.
Riccardo "Dino" Rossi: Dino is an Anarch, and a Siren Toreador. He is hot, often accidentally vulgar, and his sire is a creepy piece of shit. Dino thinks he's coping great, by aggressively hyperfocusing on sex and motorcycle racing. He is also an expert (after... a learning process) in managing his sire's emotions, so his unlife has become one of performing as the perfect prized pet. I wanted to make a tragic manwhore, and I was thinking about Gino D'acampo at the time. He has become one of my most beloved characters I've ever played, because when I play Dino, he actually possesses me. I flustered the storyteller more than once. I am not typically smooth.
Kellan Voss: Kellan is my baby boy. He's a Cammie, and a Bagger Nosferatu. He wears a gas mask with tinted lenses, although when he made his debut he was also wearing a bandit mask blue-tacked onto the lenses, rendering him unable to see. The coterie pretty much met because he brought himself, his sire, and a goat to the floor at Elysium, and they came over to help. He's coping by being the class clown and being aggressively extroverted - refusing to give in to any sort of "typical" Nosferatu experience. He is stacking an impressive number of social merits for a fledgling.
Honourable mention: Brendan O'Rourke. I haven't played him yet, but I've been working on him for over a year. He's my Malkavian, but I won't say too much until the details are Final and I've got a chance to play him.
Mage the Ascension
Bonnie Raith-Ballantyne: My most beloved WoD character, Bonnie is everything to me. She's a pretty new orphan, but she's already being pulled unknowingly between Hollow One/Cult of Ecstasy/Order of Hermes. She has SUPER high willpower, and that's the basis of her character: what she wants, she gets. She is pure determination and discipline and effort. Playing her brings me so much joy and I have improved my actual real life since starting her. The storyteller has implied her Avatar has at one point been the Oracle at Delphi.
Changeling the Lost
Alabaster: My only amnesiac character, this bitch remembers escaping a weird garden, being saved from a snake with a babies face by some fucked up scarecrow looking dudes, and waking up in hospital with only the single most infuriating man in the world to explain her situation to her. She only learned anything about who she is by finding it out in real time. She's a chav. She's full of rage. She thinks with her fists. She's protective of women. She's really, really skilled with martial arts? The first woman she met in uptime was a trans woman called Erin and they immediately commit a murder together. She has killed and would die for that tiny anxious woman. She has known her all of two days. She's a Treasured Fairest, she looks like a marble statue, and she's been walking around in a pink crop top that says "Pillow Princess" on it since the murder. She's going to wind up Summer Court, if I get to play her again - the campaign didn't last but it might come back!
Dungeons and Dragons:
Euphoria: My longest running TTRPG character of all time, and the only character who I might play a second time if I get the chance. Euphoria is a pink tiefling bard who was forced to wear uncomfortable molds all her childhood so her horns and tip of her tail would grow into heart shapes. She has tattooed heart freckles. Her clothes, upon starting the character, were all pink with heart details on everything. She was sold into the circus as a baby and brought up almost constantly under Enchantment magic to be obedient. I started her at level 3, and we're now level 22 and in space. I couldn't begin to be succinct about her story, so I won't try. I'm also playing her in my BG3 run and of course she's romancing Astarion. She's a force for chaos and their trauma is so similar.
Ivory "Angel" Darling: Her campaign ended - like, we got to the end of the story, we hit level 20, we saved everyone, it's done and dusted. She's had an epilogue. I think about her always regardless. She's a 16y/o half-elf warlock (she grew up over the campaign tho) from a rich, happy family, and she joined the party to study their tiefling, as she wanted to be a demonologist. Defeating Tiamat was just the cherry on top. She had a checklist - make a career, find a husband, finish this paper - and by god did she finish it. I'm so emotional about the connections between the characters of this campaign and I will talk about her so much more. I named my Elite Dangerous pilot after her. Her son is an NPC in a friends game, two of my friends have been playing her cousins, one of them has played TWO of her cousins. Her family lore is so deep.
Pathfinder
Groz: The bartender NPC from my D&D west march game found life in a pathfinder game with my colleagues. He has half a braincell but he hits things good. He will protect you. He will also decide that bashing a door down is preferable to finding a key, and donate flesh to weird cults because they asked kinda nicely, losing him a finger. I'm probably more likely to talk about him as my D&D NPC rather than as my Pathfinder PC because we've only done 2 sessions of that campaign and it runs SO rarely.

Warning its 2720 word. And it may need a few more proofreadings. And Agent Ukulele suffers for most of it.
~~~
Agent Ukulele hissed in pain when he got shoved and pinned to a brick wall, luckily missing a metal pipe that would have surely given him a migraine. The uneven points in the brick digging into his neck and back. It was sudden and unexpected.
He had just finished one of the Type Green bounties. Elusive one this one was, keep escaping from other Ichabod agents. The GoC was getting quite annoyed with this thing, well it was a person but after years of conditioning reality benders slowly became less of a being than a mosquito, so they sent out a hodgepodge group of their better and available agents. After one of the explosive experts smoked the building the panicking Type Green jumped out of just the right second story window for Ukulele to take the shot and boom a corpse. Well it was more messy than normal, having your brains shot out mid air makes all that body matter paint whatever was in its way before hitting the ground. Gross and a mess, but at least he's not responsible for the clean up.
The mixed sounds from bombs exploding and gun shots going off with the visuals of black smoke and lightning strikes within, some dumbfuck must of thrown an EMT, had caused quite a commotion from the people passing by outside. Anyone working for the GoC ran for hiding spots to draw the least attention and call for pickups. The last thing they needed is un-amnesitived civilians talking about a strange group of armored individuals leaving the scene of a collapsing building or worse it getting linked back to the United Nations. Whoever the spokesperson gets to explain this to the public is going to have a field day.
Ukulele had found himself a nice little alleyway seven blocks down he could wait in. And by nice he meant more that it looked so abandoned that not even homeless people staked out there for the night in a long long time. The alley itself was wet with varying pools of water swarming with insect larvae, glistening oil leaks, and whatever in his damned god's name was in the puddle that looked bright neon yellow, any metal here rusted and began to degrade, mold and mildew covering most of the nooks and cranny it could cling too. Disgusting really, Agent Ukulele didn't have the best hygiene or care for cleanliness from places he came and went from. He lived mostly off greased gas station food, been running around in his own sweat soaked all black clothing for a whole week by now, and been sleeping in motels that should really be condemned. But this place was honestly the worst, he felt a massive urge to scrumb his body so much that it might wash off some of his sins in the process. He wouldn't be here for long thankfully.
However while waiting he got immensely bored. He fiddled with his gun, listening into the coalition's radio, kept checking his pockets, even started trying to comb out his hair with his fingers. Nothing was filling that void, an itch that grew stronger and stronger, an old desire he wished he could have stomped out decades ago whispering as the devil on his shoulder in the back of his head.
Hypocritely Ukulele himself was a Type Green, a reality bender, shifter, didnt matter what you called it in the end just a ticking time bomb to bend everyone and everything to their will, a monster at the end of the day. As much as he wished he wasn't, it was bestowed upon him at birth, it's his curse to bare and hide. He hated his abilities even as a child, the sense of power and the physical sight of how he could warp his environment, it was addicting, satisfying some kind of primal desire for superiority and control. It scared him in a small way, he didn't mind hurting people, punch them in the face and hearing the small bit of the nose bone crack would savice, but knowing he could just stare at people who were miles away and cause their eyes to melt out of their sockets like warm butter or turn every nerve in that person body into thumbtacks, well it horrified him.
He hadn't done any major shifts in a while, only small things to help get by like getting clumps of tangled matted hair out, rewarming his coffee, wrinkles out of his hat was mostly what he would do. Also he was in a private place away from any Kant counter, away from his coworkers, away from the public in general. He even kept a small counter device on him to keep himself in check, that if he did bend reality ever so slightly it would only appear as a slightly higher or low fluctuation that was completely normal for humes to do once in a while.
He was hoping for a chase today. In his head, hyping himself up to start bolting after the other green, he would be free to contort reality as he pleased for just a few minutes, no one would notice as it would all be placed on the new rotting mass of meat that masqueraded in human form. But nope, didn't happen. A sniper shot, clean and simple. He'd at least get his fat sum of money and a tick up in his kill count. But as the initial adrenaline left his body after running for a pick up point that thought kept ruminating. He's need to reality bend. It ate at his very soul, his sense of awareness, threatening to take away the one thing he truly had: dominion and control over his powers. Maybe he could get away with just a little something. Give that scream part in his brain its desire spike and feed the addiction fully when he gets back home. He was due for a break anyways, his superiors were hinting at him using his vacation days for bureaucratic reasons so why not finally get them off his back.
He took a deep breath and cleared his mind. He listened to reality itself, just like how mama taught him. Listen to the sounds around him, listen to how the distant cars move, how the sound dictated their locations, speed, and directions they were traveling. The humming of the airplanes above to hear the wind resistance in the air, the bustling of the trees and their leaves told him where each branch had grown as they bumped into one another. The crunching sound of his own feet on the old broken asphalt told him where every pebble was and where they'd fall if moved. The buzzing of insects coming and going and the birds squawking and chirping. To concentrate on feeling his own weighted clothing pulling down on his body and how his own fat warped, folded, and shaped itself around himself. To the feeling of the bumps and curves of the brick wall noticing how rough, sharp, and jagged each section was compared to smoother and flatter sections that were merely inches away from one another. Or how the uneven ground causes his foot to divit and rotate to find a stable position with gravity. He inhaled to take in the smells around him at least to understand and keep track of, but they were absolutely repulsive, he could barely figure out where or what just went up his nose was or came from.
Fuck it he's getting rid of that first. With one last deep breath he refocused his thoughts inward. Any pleasant smell he could think of. Sandalwood and chestnuts? Yeah that seemed good enough. Slowly with each time he filled his lungs with air, the more and more it became defined as he kept slowly changing reality around him. He could finally stop gagging and started to automatically take in longer breaths.
The next thing he knew, however, was that of being slammed hard, unnaturally hard at that, into the wall only half a foot behind him. He could hear his kant counter hit the asphalt ground beeping quite a bit and the curdalling sound of the radio being crushed down by a boot. He felt his hand, that had at least gotten a hold of his rifle, be twisted and dislocated, dropping his main safety line down to the ground and then having it kicked away.
Expecting someone from another anomalous occult group had ambosed him. Who was actually in front of him made his heart drop, his skin went completely pale, adrenaline began to rerush through his veins but made him stiffer than the wall he was held up on: D.C. al Fine, the GoC's secretary general, the person people would just use 'fucking scary' to describe them to others. To say Agent Ukulele was fucked in this situation was an understatement. They know he's a Type Green now, he'll soon be executed, one of the best Ichabod agents soon to be left as a memory of infamy and shame in the Coalition's history. Man did he want to die in a much cooler way than a shameful and shambling walk to a shooting range with a bag over his head in complete silence. He won't fight his own death, it was probably for the best if he's becoming more unstable if the fantic counter was anything to go by.
"What the fuck are you doing?!" D.C's sneered out quietly right next to his face. Her teeth never opened and her lips were stretched far enough to see their gums, honestly they might just start bleeding from how much they clamped those poor suckers down.
Ukulele had never been this close to them. He might love to annoy his coworks and commanders, but he's not stupid enough to get into a general's face. He could see her eyes burrowing right through him, a dulled green, as if they had left them to sun bleach for a week, some color but it's fading away. Strangely beautiful if they didn't read as 'I'm about to snap your neck in half.'
"W-Waiting for you bastards to pick me up. What the fuck else would I be doing?"
Ukulele couldn't help but stammer his words out; a hand still pressed firmly around his neck, throbbing pain from the impact, and still being a bit disoriented would be the main things he'd point to for sounding this weak and pathetic right now. And it had nothing to do with any amount of fear he's definitely not feeling either. Just praying that maybe they didn't notice the reality bending he did, it at least wasn't visible to the eye, maybe it was the dangerous fiddling of his rifle or he was too out of it to hear the commands they barked at him.
"Don't try playing that game with me Ukulele," their grip tightened around his throat blocking his airway until she finished her sentence, "count this as your lucky day it was only me who found you. So I'll give you another chance to answer me. What. Were. You. Doing?"
Fuck if they already knew than why the fuck not shoot him in the head a moment ago, he was already distracted enough that he didnt hear someone coming right up on him and let them smashed his head into a brick wall.
"Less chatting in your head and start using your voicebox. We're both aware of what you were trying to pull, I just want to hear it from the source. My patience is running low, so unless you want your corpse to be found in a muddy tench..."
"You can read minds!?"
The grip returned and somehow even stronger than the last, it closed off his exsoficas and he could swear that his neck got compressed further than what he thought feasible. His kant counter was now in D.C.'s hand and lifted right next to his ear. The beeping was picking up pace and volume as it got more and more abnormal readings. Fuck he could of sworn he never let that blasted thing get to that point, how'd he get this bad within the last minute or so.
He took his first opportunity he could once he got air back in his body to concede. "Fine. Fine. Fucking fine. You caught me, I'm a Type Green and shifted the smell of the area to not gag in here. J-just give me a chance to explain to the Coalition why I'm working here or at least..." the agent gasped for more air "...at the very least.. allow me to message my roommate to hear her voice one last time."
Everything that was allowing him to still stand up gave way and he collapsed to his hands and knees. Still gasping for his body's basic needs and haphazardly coughing to not start choking on his own saliva and mucus. The counter was still going off but seemed to slightly calm down as D.C. al Fine took one step back. He didn't want to raise his head up, he knew he'd only be greeted by having their eyes borrow even deeper into him as she towered over the green caught in hunter's clothing.
As he got more and more ability to regain his senses and thought, he took note of somethings that didn't quite line up. That kant counter had hit the ground and rolled a bit away, how the hell did Fine get it into their hands. And why was it still going off when he had fully stopped bending by this point? The abnormal grip and strength, he knew the GoC had some strong ass people in power and DC definitely looked the part but it still felt unnatural in some way. And with the mind reading, while a strangely normal thing in the anomalous world, just felt off to how he expected telepathy to work.
Then he realized something, he had seen there was a shimmer in D.C. al Fine's eyes when they were in his face, one not too unlike that of the one's he looks at in the mirror every day. He looked up hopeful to see if his short term memory had gotten that detail wrong, but it was not.
"You're one too, aren't you?"
"Took you long enough to notice. Shame really, I thought you were better than that. Now get up, put your hand back in place, and grab that modified rifle before I send in a consideration to dock your paycheck."
D.C. al Fine started to walk back out of the alleyway motioning Agent Ukulele to follow.
"But why?"
"What kind of bullshit question is that!?, 'but why,' really now."
"Why the fuck did you feel the need to stop me? Why save me when you could have killed me and wipe either of our hands from knowing what we are? Why trust that I wouldn't tell others just because you know about me?"
"Oh no, I don't trust you not to tell," they stopped right on the sidewalk as Ukulele had regained his footing, without looking back they continued in a hushed tone, "but because I made a promise to someone to keep you out of trouble than that's what I will do."
Before Ukulele could form another full sentence one of the Goc's unmarked black van pulled up with a few of his other colleagues already inside. They were all looking a bit confused to why the commander was here but no one spoke out to verbally question. He shuffled his way in as he swung his rifle back over his shoulder, took a seat on the cold metal bench inside, leaned back and tilted his black sun hat over this face, and listened to the comradery of the other agents as he felt the bumpy road roll over the van as it took them back to the nearest base.
He quietly groaned to himself, he was going to need a few pints at the pub before taking in what happened just now. He'll take his life and the now absent need to shift his surroundings over a shameful bullet or handcuffs any day of the week and he wasn't in the mood nor place to keep pressing for answers. At least for now.
~~~

!!!! Holy shit I love this. It really is so refreshing to read about this guy during his GOC era and also D.C, absolutely nice

no sound but the throes of steel | also on ao3 | pre-avengers frostmaster au. mind the tags!
Thanos has molded the perfect weapon. But with months to go before he can make his move for the Tesseract - and an old favor owed to an Elder of the Universe - why not kill two birds with one stone? It never hurts to test a weapon's mettle. Whumptober Prompt #2: Nowhere to Run - Cornered | Caged | Confrontation
Even after a dozen weeks Gast still marveled at his good fortune. It had been far too long since he had been gifted a plaything quite so lovely.
An attendant stopped at the arm of his sofa to offer him a drink – and a tentative, clearly hopeful brush of fingers against his – which he accepted and ignored respectively without a glance. Gast sipped at the cocktail only distantly aware of the taste as he inched forward to the edge of his seat to peer down at the proceedings.
This was always his favorite part.
The Grandmaster’s champion stood over his opponent, a foot on its chest, a bloodied dagger in each hand. He raised his head to the Grandmaster’s box. Even at this distance, Gast could see the blankness of his expression. Eyes blown to near-black and dead but for a spark of primal victory.
Gast’s fingers tightened on the arm of the sofa, heat pooling in his groin.
He gave the tiniest of nods, and his champion turned back to the grounded competitor. Quick as lightning, as fire, he lunged. Twisted with an expert grace and plunged both daggers into the howling body beneath him. The roar of the crowd rose to a deafening height, drowning out the sound of its death. Blood poured from the slit throat, intestines from the belly—
The quietest of moans slipped from Gast’s mouth as his champion slid another dagger into the heart for good measure.
The Grandmaster stood, rearranging his robes around him just to gift himself a teasing touch to the growing tightness in his pants.
“Good boy,” he breathed, staring down into the arena at the lone figure – standing now, breathing heavily, all but unreactive to the crowd. Waiting. To the guards standing at attention behind the sofa Gast commanded: “Bring him to me.”
---
“You did so well today,” said Gast, running a hand over his champion’s dirt-matted hair. The ornamental braids at his temple were still wet with blood. And other bodily matter. “My Loki…”
“Thank you, Grandmaster,” said Loki dully, dutifully, from where he knelt at Gast’s feet.
Gast took a long moment to admire the sight before him. He usually allowed his contestants to choose whatever adornments they liked from the provided armory. But this one…Loki was his prize. His crown jewel. The memory of Loki’s first performance in the arena – and outside of it – was one Gast held near and dear to his heart. That first glimpse of his grace, his skill, the way he moved, fluid and precise like an intricate dance. He’d had flattering outfits made for Loki, and he told him which to wear each day. But for the games he preferred him in only his leather pteruges. Bare-chested and beautiful, the golden bands winding around his pale biceps, his neck, his ankles. The lines of warrior paint down his sides and along his jaw.
Lovely.
“Shall we wash you?” Gast ventured, fingers trailing lightly over Loki’s cheekbone, down his chin.
He normally liked Loki cleaned for him after the games. Sometimes he even took pleasure in doing it himself, careful to do it as thoroughly as possible. But today—
“No,” Gast answered himself. “I don’t think so. You look so pretty like this already. Do you know that, sweetheart?”
“Thank you, Grandmaster,” Loki muttered again, still as a statue.
Gast smirked. Oh Lo-Lo. Always knowing the right thing to say. Only rarely did he slip up.
Gast enjoyed those nights.
“Go get on the bed. Lie on your back,” Gast commanded him. They could have the sheets cleaned tomorrow.
The Grandmaster licked a long stripe up Loki’s neck, tasting the dried rivulets of blood as he worked open the body under him with his fingers.
When he entered him, Gast sighed in contentment.
“My Loki.”
---
The Mad Titan tipped up Loki’s chin with one finger and bent forward, examining. The Elder appeared to have kept up his end of the agreement: no permanent damage. “Have you been taken care of, little prince?” He forced Loki’s head up another inch until their eyes met. He gazed into them, searching. Probing into that young mind that held so many storms. “Tell me, has he broken you?”
Nothing at first. Then a flicker behind those eyes. A hint of a threat. Of life.
Of rage.
Thanos nodded. “Good. We have much to do. It’s time to come home.”
The Titan smiled. He touched a gentle hand to the back of Loki’s head.
“My son.”

How to Grow Cannabis: Step-by-Step Guide
Many countries around the world are quickly adopting legal cannabis use. Although not officially condoned, it is legal in most of Europe, and if not legal, it is at least tolerated.
So you've decided to cultivate your cannabis. Excellent work! You will soon be a part of a rapidly expanding culture. Homegrown marijuana has become a worldwide phenomenon.
Growing your cannabis is a fun and inexpensive way to fill your jar with high-quality buds.
Tumblr media
Step-by-Step Instructions for Growing Cannabis From Seed
Cannabis growing, like all gardening, is a skill that must be honed over time. It is simple to learn but takes a lifetime to master. There's no reason to be afraid of growing your own. The procedure is simple and can be as cheap or as expensive as you like.
Understanding the fundamentals of cannabis cultivation is a good place to begin your marijuana cultivation journey. Making informed decisions early on will increase your overall yields. These seven basic steps will provide a solid foundation for becoming an expert marijuana gardener.
Step 1: Choosing Your Cannabis Seeds
The variety is mind-boggling. Sativa, indica, ruderalis, and a variety of hybrids are all available with a single click. Personal experience has taught you what you like. What strains have previously fit your groove? What strains have proven to be effective treatments for your condition? They are most likely a good place to start.
Consider your changing circumstances while keeping your personal preferences in mind.
Step 2: Cannabis Fundamentals
You love cannabis requires some fundamental things in order to grow at its best and provide you with juicy buds.
Light
Marijuana requires more than eighteen hours of light per twenty-four-hour period for healthy vegetation.
Medium for Growth
Organic growers will always use some type of soil, inside or outside. But soil isn't the only option. Coconut coir, perlite, vermiculite, and rock wool are nutrient-independent neutral mediums. Aeroponics, purely hydroponics, and deep water culture do not use any mediums. The matrix of suspended roots. The suspended root matrix takes the nutrients directly from the nutrient mix.
Air
Cannabis requires fresh, moving air for strength and proper gas exchange. This is not a problem outside because your plants will be exposed to both breeze and gale. Your plants will require fresh air intake, stale air exhaust, and air movement via a fan. Pests, molds, and weak growth thrive in still environments. Plant growth will be hampered if aspirated gases accumulate.
Water
If you live in an area with consistent rainfall, your outdoor crop may get everything it needs from nature. Large cannabis plants are notorious for their thirst. If you go big, you will need to supplement water between rains.
Water becomes the medium that transports nutrients indoors. Regularly, unaltered water is used for flushing hydroponic and soilless systems. Therefore, the pH of your water is critical. A good pH meter is part of a comprehensive grow kit for the savvy cannabis grower.
Temperature
Cannabis is a tough plant that can withstand extreme cold and heat. Like you and me, it can become stressed and not function well in extremes. Cannabis can cause death by freezing or boiling. It can either stop growing or enter stasis. The accepted ideal temperature for vigorous cannabis growth is 27 degrees Celsius. Indoors, fans, air conditioning units, and heating and cooling mats make this simple. Lights will undoubtedly generate heat that must be vented.
Nutrients
Cannabis, like all living things, requires fuel to grow. A good friable soil mix rich in compost, living organisms, vitamins, and minerals can provide enough food for your plants throughout their life cycle.
With hydroponics or neutral mediums, pre-formulated nutrient blends provide all of the plant's lifeblood. Usually tailored specifically for marijuana. Specialized concoctions are created exclusively for the soilless medium of your choice.
Tumblr media
Step 3: Lights For Indoor Cannabis Growing
Since legalization, there has been an explosion in the number of lights and grow chambers available for growing cannabis indoors. The deciding factor will then be your budget.
Cupboards should be grown.
There are sophisticated grow cabinets that have been fully customized for cannabis and are ready to go, made by people with decades of experience. For example, suppose you have thousands of dollars lying around. Lights, fans, clones, veg, flower chambers, timers, and carbon filters are ready to use.
Step 4: Germination And Cannabis Seedlings
Germination is the process of coaxing a seed to sprout and take root. Here are some basic germination methods:
Paper Towel Method
Place the cannabis seeds between two damp, clean paper towels in an enclosed space such as a plastic bag or Tupperware container. The paper towels should be checked every day for signs of moisture loss. When the seedlings break through the shells, they can be placed into their final containers.
Water Method
Submerge your cannabis seeds in de-chlorinated or filtered water at room temperature and check them daily until they start to crack open. Once that happens, you can transplant them directly into their final growing medium without waiting for roots to form. This is an excellent method for seeds that are slow to germinate.
Direct Sowing
You can skip germination and sow your cannabis seeds directly into their final growing medium. The seedlings will form rapidly and can be transplanted when needed.
Step 5: The Vegetative Phase Of Cannabis
This is the stage during which the most significant growth occurs. During this period, cannabis plants produce more leaves, stems, and secondary branching.
Vegetative lighting should be 18-24 hours of light per day and 6-12 hours of darkness for optimum growth. Depending on your grow location, natural sunlight may provide adequate vegetative lighting if it is not shaded by trees or other buildings throughout the day.
Topping/Lollipopping are techniques that can be employed to shape a plant's form and increase bud production early in life while they are still small enough to manage. The idea is to remove any growth below the lowest branches so that energy is not wasted on foliage and all energy goes towards buds.
Nutrients should also be monitored carefully throughout the vegetative phase to ensure healthy, vigorous growth. Organic soil mixes or coco coir typically contain enough nutrients for young plants but may require additional fertilizers in later growth phases.
Step 6: The Blooming Period Of Healthy Cannabis
After at least two weeks of vegetative growth, your cannabis plants will be ready to enter the flowering phase. The amount of time required for healthy cannabis buds to reach maturity varies between strains but typically takes around 8-10 weeks indoors.
Lighting upgrades may also be necessary if using a lower-wattage lamp such as CFLs or small LED panels to provide adequate intensity during this critical stage. HPS lamps are considered one of the best choices for high-yield flowering due to their intense luminosity and broad spectrum output.
Nutrients also need to be adjusted for flowering. Nutrient formulations designed for the flowering stage should be used for optimum results. Be sure to monitor pH levels as well, and adjust accordingly if necessary.
Step 7: Harvesting, Drying & Curing For Best Quality Buds
Once your cannabis plants have finished flowering, they are ready to be harvested! There is no definitive answer as to when the best time to harvest is - it depends on personal preference and strain. Some growers prefer harvesting earlier for a more energetic buzz, while others prefer waiting longer for maximum potency. Trichomes can also be examined with a magnifying glass or jeweler's loupe to help determine when the optimum harvest time has been reached.
After harvesting, buds should then be dried and cured to bring out their full flavor and aroma potential. The drying process usually takes around 5-7 days before buds are ready for curing. Curing times vary but generally last anywhere from 1-4 weeks, depending on personal preference. Curing cannabis can significantly improve its flavor, aroma, and overall quality while extending its shelf life.

Your Home and Roof After a Fire – Steps to Recovery
Tumblr media
Avoid panic and confusion when a fire threatens to destroy your home. Knowing what to do after a home fire will help you secure your home and protect your loved ones.
Tumblr media
New Image Roofing Atlanta gathered crucial information and guidance on surviving and recovering from a catastrophic house fire.
1. Evacuating Your Home
Tumblr media
Experiencing a house fire will change your life in several (often traumatic or overwhelming) ways. Knowing the necessary steps required after the fire can help you regain control, ensure safety, and begin the recovery process. Consider the following:
Stay Calm and Follow Your Evacuation Plan
The first priority during a fire is your and your family’s safety. It’s vital to have an established evacuation plan that everyone in the household knows. During a fire:
Alert Everyone: If you detect a fire, immediately alert everyone in the house. Ensure that everyone knows how to get out quickly and safely.
Use the Safest Exit: Use the nearest exit to leave the house. Use a secondary exit or window when your primary exit is blocked by fire or smoke.
Avoid Smoke: If there is smoke, stay low where the air is cleaner, and cover your nose and mouth with a cloth.
Do Not Delay: Do not attempt to collect belongings or pets; focus on getting everyone out safely.
Gather at a Safe Location: Once outside, gather at a pre-designated meeting spot, away from the house, and ensure everyone is accounted for.
Assisting Those with Disabilities or the Elderly
Ensure that elderly or disabled family members are assisted during the evacuation. Assign a family member to help them if necessary and ensure everyone knows how to assist those who need it.
2. Calling Emergency Responders
Tumblr media
The faster you engage emergency services, the less damage a fire can inflict on your home. Emergency responders typically arrive within minutes after an emergency call. Immediately do the following:
Contact 911 Immediately
Once everyone is safely outside, call 911 to report the fire. Provide the dispatcher with:
Your home’s address.
The nature and extent of the fire (if known).
Any known hazards, such as gas lines or flammable materials.
Whether anyone is still inside the house.
Tip: When calling emergency services, remain calm and concise (ensure the operator can understand you clearly).
Notify Neighbors
If the fire threatens neighboring homes, notify your neighbors and urge them to evacuate if necessary.
3. Cleanup After the Fire
Tumblr media
Fire and smoke damage may appear (and smell) much worse than it is. Here are the steps to get the cleanup started:
Assess the Damage
After the fire is extinguished and authorities have declared it safe to return, assess the damage. This includes:
Smoke Damage: Smoke can cause significant damage to walls, ceilings, and belongings. Smoke residue is acidic and can corrode metals and permanently stain surfaces.
Water Damage: Water used to extinguish the fire can cause its own set of problems, including waterlogged furniture, soaked walls, and potential mold growth.
Structural Damage: Inspect the home for any signs of structural damage, such as weakened walls, floors, or roofing.
Hire a Professional Cleanup Service
Ensure a thorough cleanup and restoration by considering a professional fire damage restoration company. These experts can:
Remove Smoke Residue: Use specialized cleaning agents and equipment to remove smoke stains and odors.
Water Extraction and Drying: Deploy industrial fans and dehumidifiers to dry out water-damaged areas and prevent mold.
Debris Removal: Safely remove fire-damaged materials and debris from your home.
Ventilate the Home
Open windows and doors to allow fresh air to circulate and help remove lingering smoke odors. This also aids in drying out any moisture from firefighting efforts.
Tip: Air movers (high-powered fans) can be placed near doors and windows to accelerate ventilation.
4. Ensuring Structural Integrity
The intense heat a fire produces can severely damage your home’s support beams (wood, metal, or concrete). Use the following to ensure you are entering a safely supported home.
Structural Inspection
Before making any repairs, it’s crucial to have your home inspected by a structural engineer to ensure it is safe to reoccupy. The engineer will:
Evaluate the Stability: Check the overall stability of the home, including load-bearing walls and support beams.
Inspect for Hidden Damage: Look for hidden damage that could compromise the home’s structural integrity.
Roof Inspection: Pay special attention to the condition of the roof, which may have been damaged by the fire or firefighting efforts.
Tumblr media
Roof Safety
A critical part of the post-fire inspection is assessing the roof’s condition. Even if the fire didn’t reach the roof, it might still be compromised by:
Heat Damage: Intense heat can cause roofing materials to warp or weaken.
Water Damage: Water used to fight the fire can seep into the roof structure, leading to potential water damage or mold growth.
Debris: Fire debris could have fallen onto the roof, adding weight and possibly causing damage.
If any issues are found, immediate repair or replacement is necessary to prevent leaks or further damage.
5. Post-Fire Resources
Tumblr media
After a fire, several key organizations and service providers should be contacted to help restore your home and begin the recovery process.
Insurance Company
Notify your insurance company as soon as possible to report the fire. They will:
Assign an adjuster to assess the damage.
Guide you through the claims process.
Cover fire, water, and smoke damage according to your policy.
Watch this video for more information about insurance policies and deductibles.
youtube
Property Management (if applicable)
If you rent your home, contact your property management company or landlord. They can:

Smoke and soot removal.
Water extraction and drying.
Structural repairs.
Roof inspection and repairs.
Local Government or Building Inspector
Tumblr media
In some cases, local authorities or a building inspector may need to certify that the home is safe to occupy again. They will:
Conduct a final inspection after repairs are complete.
Issue any necessary permits or certifications for reoccupation.
Mental Health Services
Experiencing a fire can be a traumatic event. If you or your family members are struggling to cope with the aftermath, consider reaching out to mental health professionals for support.
Community Assistance Programs
Many communities have assistance programs for families affected by fires, including temporary housing, food, and clothing. Contact your local Red Cross or community center for help.
Before A House Fire
Tumblr media
A crucial preventive measure to keep you and your loved ones safe from a fire in your home is:
Installing Smoke Alarms and CO2 Detectors
Properly working smoke alarms and CO2 detectors decrease your chances of dying in a fire by half.
Place smoke alarms and CO2 detectors on every level of your residence. Place them outside bedrooms on the ceiling or high on the wall (4 to 12 inches from ceiling), at the top of open stairways, or at the bottom of enclosed stairs and near (not in) the kitchen.
Test and clean smoke alarms and CO2 detectors once a month, and if your model uses a 9-volt battery, be sure to replace the battery annually when you change your clocks back to Standard Time in the fall.
Newer alarms with a lithium battery may not need to be changed annually but still require periodic cleaning and testing. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the model you have (if you do not have the physical instructions, they can be found with a simple Google search – type in the device’s make and model number and instructions). Replace smoke alarms and CO2 detectors every 10 years.
