#Future Odydio ?

I can’t write, but I try. I apologize to the actual writers (Diomedes and Polities)

“…and all I am saying is - you would please stop pacing Diomedes, you are driving my nerves every which way!” Polities groans, his anxiety growing ever strong as Diomedes paces in front of him-seemly for hours. Even though Polites usually kept his wits about him, the events of the night had him drinking very-,very strong wine, something he usually tried to avoid.

“Polities, he tried to stab me. Me! For whatever reason I cannot wrap my head around. We have been friends for 10 goddammed years. 10 years! And he just throws that away. How - I can’t-why would he even-.Look by the grace of Athena he didn’t succeed but-aghh….” Diomedes dropped to the floor, clearly in mental agony. Polities, now he just couldn’t care less.

Now Polities here had a very exhausting day and he had plans for the night, that consisted of Eurylochus. That’s it. What Polities was not in the mood for was playing match maker for idiot 1 and dumbass 2. As Diomedes voice faded into the background, Polities mused his options, maybe he could wrestle Dio out of his tent, he could have a soldier lock both men in a tent, maybe a-

“Polities, are you even listening?” Ah right, he is still here. Bitching and whining. In any other circumstance, Polities would listen, maybe even offer food and a comforting word, but now, now Diomedes looks very-very-VERY punchable. “Diomedes, I need you to hear me and hear me well. Are you ready?” 

Diomedes nods, eager to hear Polities words, imagining what he might say. 

What Diomedes does not anticipate are the next three words 

“I don’t care.”

“I’m sorry?” 

“Hearing an issue? I said I do not give a positive fuck.”

“Polities, listen-“

“Nooooo, noooooooo stop-no” Polities let a whine that a full of antipathy.

Diomedes internally jolted at the uncharacteristic behavior, mind wandering to the idea of Polities siding with Odysseus. He braced himself for that topic.

“Diomedes, I am extremely tired, exhausted, drained. And I had plans tonight. Wonderful plans, that got interrupted.. by you.”

Diomedes felt frustrated, the one person that he felt he could talk to about his dilemma (without murdering Odysseus) couldn’t care less about the situation at hand.

“Polities , I’m sorry, but this is beyond me. I am adrift, I have lost all my bearings, I don’t know what to do. I-I,”

Diomedes cut off his sentence. For a moment there was silence, except for a series of silent shuddering breaths on the other side of the cot.  When Polities looked closer, he saw tears threatening to plunge down his face. Stoic, incredible, strong Diomedes was choked up on the other side of his tent, face expressing his internal turmoil.

Damn it. Godsdamn it. Screw Diomedes and his pretty eyes. Screw him for playing directly on his emotions Odysseus for creating this situation, seriously what in the world-how did he think the aftermath would play out? 

“When I see him I swear I’m gonna-“ Polities cut himself off, the threat dying on his tongue. 

“Ok, ok ok ok. I will say this once, and only once. Like I mentioned before, I am tired and would like to not carry your problems. So shut up until I am done, agreed?” Diomedes nods, the annoyance of the other man unbearably palpable.

“Honestly, I was prepared for this. You and Odysseus are one and the same, stupidity is too. Odysseus is in turmoil, that is a fact. If he succeeded in killing you, he would never be happy. Never, but somehow in his botched up mind, he thought that killing you would relieve him of the intensity you bring in his life; but he didn’t consider what he would become without it. What half a shell he would turn into. I genuinely think you should fine him - find him and talk to him. Communication is key, if you don’t know what that is, it is when a-“

“Okay, okay, you had your fun” Diomedes sniffed. He knew that he needed to speak to Odysseus. To get clarity, understanding. His mind spun with possibilities of what could happen

“Stop thinking, just go. Talk to him, rough him up a bit. I don’t care. Just get out.” Polites groaned, becoming more aggravated, maybe even sluggish.

Diomedes gets up from his spot in the tent, feeling unsure of himself and the advice he just got. But he had to do it. It would kill him if he didn’t.

He thanks Polities, apologies for barging in and ruining his late night plans. 

“Diomedes”

“Yes?”

 “That little crying act of yours, definitely needs some work. Ask Ody to teach you how to fake cry properly. He would be ashamed of that attempt at manipulation. Anyone with half a brain could see through that.”

If you had to choose one of OdyDio to canonically die in the Iliad, who would you choose? Odysseus or Diomedes?

How do you think Diomedes would react to Odysseus getting speared like a chicken kebab in the Iliad?

1. Odysseus. (I didn't see you said in the Iliad until I finished writing my monologue TT )

By the time of the Iliad, Dio had a way harsher life. He was at war since he was 14yo, and probably never expected to survive most of the things he has been through. But it does get better, eventually.

Odysseus, however, had (to my knowledge) a pretty chill life until Troy. And it's only once he tries to get home that he really goes through horrible things.

You see, Dio's past is harsh, but Ody's future is even harsher. It's a parallel I like between them. Also I just posted about my HC of Dio being (passive) suicidal, so the fact that he outlived Ody would be very unexpected and interesting.

However if it's during the Iliad, as you actually said, I'd prefer Dio. Atm Ody's story barely started while Dio could be considered to be dead at his apogee.

2. Lately I have been thinking about... CoD x Iliad.... The guys of the Trojan war, they're SAS.... Idk if I'd call that my fav one, but it's definitely something i need to think more about.

I rly like au where Ody comes home to Penelope and Dio, and then they all live happy and together.

3. Great!! The bus ride has been pretty fun so far :3 rn it's 3am, I was half sleeping for the past 2h, and im torn apart between feeling excited and quite energetic and the urge to nap again lol

4. Listen, I am pretty sure Ody does at some point get kebab'ed. I have heard about that but. I genuinely don't remember reading about it (I forget many things I read). As I don't visualise the scene at all its a bit tough for me to answer sry TT (i knew I should've take my Iliad with me... /Hj)

5. She's happy to see her favourite mortals (I like to think she actually has a sweet spot for them both) being close, although sometimes it's a little too close (throw back to one of my last posts lol). Also I hc that (like most gods) she doesn't rly understand/care for the mortals' cultural laws, so she has none of the era's homophobia. It's kinda like you adopt 2 stray cats and one day you see them grooming each other, you're like "yay they get along great :)"

i've been really into greek myths and legend since i was little, but i recently reread the iliad/odyssey and Oh God Oh Fuck The Thoughts Are Consuming

we get a little silly here. a little goofy even. perhaps we even steal some horses and swim in the sea and don't look at the thracian camp its totally fine :) its fine guys :)

aspects about greek myths/legends/the epic cycle i'm always down to clown about:

diomedes my boy diomedes my favorite child soldier turned peaceful farmer diomedes. does anyone perchance want to discuss breaking the cycle of violence when its all you've ever known this fine evening?

i also have many thoughts specifically about odydio/penodydio that consume my every waking moment. i dont even know where this came from it just Happened

telemachus!! especially the telemachy but also any thoughts about telemachus and legacies and his future at the end of the odyssey and how he's just. he's at the tail end of this age of heroes and i feel many many emotions about him!!!

teucer.... teucer..... can anyone hear me does anyone else feel a myriad of emotions about this side character from the iliad who is both trojan and greek and yet ultimately is at home with neither. literally his dad just exiled him holy fucking shit bro he just sacked his mom's city he killed his uncle's sons for you and for ajax and what does he get? he gets the boot. god. god. justice for my man teucer.

homeric epic to me is a tragedy (the end of an age of heroes, etc etc) but i am also captivated by how these characters try and heal from their pasts/break that cycle of constant warfare so if that ever floats your boat please come into my inbox we can have brainworms Together

AHHH I have yet to read what I can expect to be another brilliant chapter of your fic but now that it's done, are you tempted to write any more OdyDio fics in the future? And if so, what topics would you explore/ write about?

Right now I'll take a smol break to fixate on vengeance saga, and then I'll likely work on chapter 2 of Solace or Sorrows

With that I have 2...to 3 other fics in mind right now that I might attempt, two of which could include Dio and one maybe Odysseus ontop, most of them exploring some angstier parts of their perspectives

As for OdyDio, right now I don't have any specific fic ideas yet, but I still have a list of potential ideas where I have to see if something plucks the string of the muse (*cough* aka inspires me) ^^
