By • Olalekan Fagbade Community leader allegedly shoots two persons during popular festival A community leader, Sajowa of Egako, Chief Moses Adeyemo has been arrested by the Ondo State Police command, following the alleged shooting of two people in Ogbagi Akoko in Akoko North Local Government Area of the state during the celebration of a popular festival in the town. The youths in the town were said to be celebrating the annual Ajagbo festival in the town, singing around the various quarters in the town before the ugly incident occurred. According to one of the youths, who explained that the festival entails mocking any indigene of the town who has engaged in any form of vices or atrocities during the year He said trouble started when the youths reached Adeyemo’s compound and started mocking him over an alleged infidelity he had committed. The act of the youths infuriated the Sajowa of Egako, who rushed inside the house only to emerge with his gun, and allegedly shoot into the air, hitting two of the youths in the process, Eniola Adewumi and Timilehin Ogunyemi. The two victims were rushed to the hospital immediately, Adewunmi was hit on the hand, Ogunyemi was shot in the leg and they were attended to. But Adewumi said he had to discharge himself from the hospital as he could not afford to pay the N300,000 medical bill and had to resolve to a traditional home to remove the pellet from his ankle. Speaking on the incident, Adewumi said he was lucky to have escaped with his life but lamented that he might lose his leg if proper medical attention was not given to it. The wife of the victim, Mrs Olatunde Adewumi while speaking, solicited for help, saying her husband had been writhing in pain for days as they could not afford the bill charged at the traditional home. A youth leader in Ogbagi, Kehinde Oyeyemi expressed surprise that the Ajagbo festival which had been an age-long festival turned bloody. Oyeyemi called for a thorough investigation into the incident and a review of the indiscriminate use of local firearms in the town. Confirming the incident, Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Funmi Odunlami said the suspect, Chief Adeyemo had been arrested and transferred to Akure for further investigation. “The suspect had been arrested and the investigation is ongoing while the suspect had been transferred to the State CID for investigation,” she said. #CommunityLeaderallegedlyshootstwopersonsduringfestivalcelebration

Police Arrest Pastor for Alleged Rape, Murder in Ondo

A 37-year-old pastor, Kayode Salami, has been arrested by police detectives over the alleged r@pe and murder of a nursing mother, Adejoke Oloje in ldanre, Ondo state. It was learnt that the deceased, left home with her 11-month-old baby in January, this year, to stay in the church where she eventually met her untimely death. She was accompanied by her cousin, identified as Aderonke, to the church in ldanre town. Speaking with newsmen, the mother of the deceased, Mrs Deborah, said her daughter came to visit her in ldanre, only to leave hurriedly and without any notice. Deborah said:“I called her line to ask about her whereabouts, but she didn’t pick up her calls. So, one day, some people told me they saw her in Alade with her cousin, Aderonke. “I collected Aderonke’s phone number from their grandmother and I called her, but she said Adejoke was staying in the church, not her place. “I called my daughter’s phone number and she picked it up. I asked for a description of where she was staying and she obliged me. “I went to the church and eventually found her. She complained about foodstuffs and I promised to bring some for her the following day. I also pleaded with her to leave the place, but she declined and I left. “The next day, when I got to the church around past 5pm, I heard her child crying profusely. So, I moved close to see what happened. “I met the door closed. So, I forced it open. To my utmost dismay, I found my daughter on the floor, with her pant already removed down her legs and I shouted for help.” Deborah said they immediately took her to the hospital where she was confirmed dead by the doctor in the hospital. ” We immediately reported at the police station in Idanre and the policemen swung into action and apprehend the pastor. “It is a painful story and a sad moment for our family. She was with an 11-month-old child before she met her untimely death. The culprit must not go unpunished. But in an interview, Pastor Salami, denied r@ping or killing the nursing mother. According to her:“I knew Adejoke through her sister, Aderonke. They came to my church to worship and they went home. After that day, Adejoke came back on her own to seek accommodation in the church, pending when she would get a place to stay. ” I gave her one room out of the two rooms in the church. I did not ask her what happened between her and her sister, Aderonke. “There is only one door linking my room and the room was given to her to stay. So, I used to pass through her room. And I always inform her whenever I was going out or coming in. “We did vigil together in the church and the next morning, I saw her before going to work, because I am a welder. “She later came to my place of work to charge her phone around 2pm and came to collect it around 4 pm. “I make use of the room when I have programmes in the church. My family and I rented an apartment outside. “I did not r@pe her and I can’t explain how she died.” Contacted, the state police spokesperson Funmi Odunlami, confirmed the ugly incident. Four students, said to be returning home from school for Christmas, were reportedly abducted by suspected gunmen along Akunnu-Ajowa Road in Akoko area of Ondo State.
Meanwhile, a former vice chairman of Akoko North West local government area, Mr Ajayi Bakare, said the abductors have contacted the family of the students and requested N16 ransom for their release and that of the driver of the commercial vehicle identified as Momodu.
The Kogi State Polytechnic students were said to have been ambushed on Friday at Ago Jinadu Axis in Akoko, reputed for crime, especially kidnapping.
Consequently, fear has gripped residents of Ajowa community and environs.
Contacted, the Police Area Commander for lkare, ACP Muri Agboola, said his men have been combing forests along the Akunnu-Ajowa Akoko Road to rescue the abducted students.
The state police command spokesperson , Funmi Odunlami, could not be reached for comment.
But Bakare said that the driver of the vehicle conveying the students had been warned by the parents not to take that road and also promised to add more to the fares for taking longer but safer route.  The former LGA vice chairman said that travellers always take Akunu Ikaram Gedegede Road to Ajowa for the fear of miscreants.
He said that the kidnappers have demanded for N16m for the release of the students and driver

The sad incidents occurred at the Fagu Crescent area of Ondo town, the headquarters of Ondo west  local government area. The suspect was said to have poured petrol into the room of his stepchildren and set them ablaze while they were asleep  . He was alleged to have committed the act because the mother of the children allegedly denied him sex and they have been having misunderstanding over the issue According to the sources, the alarm raised by the children attracted the neighbors who ran to the scene of the fire to save the children but one of them was burned to death in the inferno. the mother of the children was said to have escaped from the fire with her twins with minor injury but four of the children were rushed to the clinic where they were referred to the Federal Medical Centre for medical treatment while one was already dead Confirming the incidence on Sunday Funmi Odunlami, spokesperson of the command said  the man had been arrested for a case of alleged murder.  The PPRO explain that the suspect is the stepfather of the victims and not there biological father but said the suspect is the father of the 18 month old twins. Owo community has experienced another attack by unknown gunmen barely seven weeks after terrorists shoot out on worshippers at the St. Francis Catholic church in Owo, Ondo state. Many people were said to have been injured in the course of the attack which took place on Wednesday evening, July 27, at Folahanmi Junction, where a construction company was located. Eyewitness reports had it that the gunmen opened fire on those at the site. Residents of the area also alleged that the gunmen threw explosive devices into the site during the attack. It is however not certain if there were any casualties during the attack. Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Funmi Odunlami, said three persons were injured during a shootout in the town ''There was a shooting incident at Craneburg Construction Company Owo. Policemen are currently at the scene, victims have been taken to Hospital and they are in stable condition.  We can not ascertain the casualty figure now and we also cannot say it was a terrorists’ attack with the use of explosives devices but tomorrow( Thursday ) morning , the EOD men of the command would go to the scene.”she said Odunlami appealed to residents not to panic as the situation was under control.

The Owo-Ifon-Benin highway which is in a deplorable state is notorious for kidnapping and armed robbery.
