This is where taxi booking services come into play. But is it worth it to book a taxi in Melbourne? Let's explore the pros and cons.
Pros of Taxi Booking in Melbourne
Convenience: One of the biggest advantages of booking a taxi in Melbourne is the convenience it offers. With just a few taps on your smartphone, you can arrange a ride to your desired destination. No more waiting in line or trying to flag down a taxi on busy streets.

Flexibility: Taxi booking services offer flexibility in terms of payment options. You can choose to pay cash to the driver or use your credit card through the app. Additionally, you can track your ride in real-time, ensuring you know exactly where your taxi is and when it will arrive.

If you value convenience, safety, and flexibility, and are willing to pay a premium for it, then booking a taxi can be a great option. However, if you're on a tight budget or prefer to explore the city on foot or by public transportation, you may find that other options are more suitable. NELLIE MELBA'S FUNERAL CORTÈGE. MELBOURNE. 1931.
Australia's world renowned opera singer, Dame Nellie Melba died in St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney on February 23, 1931. She had developed septicaemia following facial surgery in Europe. She was 69 years old.
HER DEATH made headlines around the world. Billboard’s both at home and internationally carried the simple two word message… MELBA DEAD.
Dame Nellie was truly cherished by Australians. This was particularly evident in her home town of Melbourne. Her funeral was testament to this.
An elaborate funeral service was held in Scots' Church on the corner of Russell and Collins Streets, Melbourne, on February 26. An appropriate setting given the fact that her father David Mitchell had built the church, and she had sung in the choir in her younger years.
Following the service, Dame Nellie was carried to Lilydale cemetery in Melbourne’s outer eastern suburbs for burial. Melba had lived in nearby Coldstream, at Coombe Cottage. Photo in comments.
THIS PHOTO shows part of the funeral cortege departing Scots Church and heading east up Collins Street. The cortege was a kilometre in length with crowds of many thousands lining the entire 45 km route to the cemetery on Victoria Road, Lilydale.
BRIEF OVERVIEW…
Nellie was born Helen Porter Mitchell in Melbourne’s Richmond on May 19 1861. Her Scottish father, David Mitchell was a building contractor and bass vocalist. Her mother, Isabella became her first music teacher.
She made her international operatic debut in Brussels as Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto. From there she went on to sing with great success in London, Paris, Milan, New York among other cities. Her success grew rapidly. She was soon regarded as the most accomplished soprano of her time.
She worked tirelessly to raise funds for war charities during the first world war. For this she was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1918.

Managing SMSF Accounting in Melbourne: Guaranteeing Financial Success and Compliance
Australians who want more control over their future retirement savings and investment choices frequently choose SMSF accounting. The decision to start your self-managed pension fund is a big financial one, but you should weigh the expenses and your legal responsibilities before making this choice.
Tumblr media
Achieving your retirement objectives may be greatly impacted by understanding the subtleties of SMSF administration and knowing where to obtain reputable professional services in Melbourne, whether you're thinking about starting one or are already a trustee. Annual financial statements from SMSFs must give a precise and understandable overview of the fund's status and activities for the whole year.
A Self-Managed Superannuation Fund: What Is It?
Every member has to be a trustee, and every trustee needs to be an active member. A "single member fund" can call for either a trustee from the company or two separate trustees. The deed, which contains the operating guidelines, specifies who can join, how to join, what the fund's investments can invest in, and who is eligible to receive funeral benefits.
Although there are numerous advantages to operating your own SMSF, there are also a lot of legal and compliance requirements. Self-managed pension plans have been more and more popular in recent years for many reasons, including members' more control over how their money is invested and increased visibility into their retirement savings, which gives them more confidence to make lifestyle and investment decisions.
Proficiency and Understanding in Compliance Guarantee
It takes a specific understanding of tax laws, accounting standards, and superannuation legislation to navigate the intricacies of SMSF accounting. Expert SMSF accountants in Melbourne have the know-how to guarantee compliance and maximise your fund's tax advantages.
SMSF accountants provide strategic guidance based on your retirement goals, going beyond compliance. To attain long-term financial stability, they may help with retirement income plans, tax benefit optimisation, and investment structuring.

No bail, no plea for alleged killer Beau Lamarre-Condon
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/no-bail-no-plea-for-alleged-killer-beau-lamarre-condon/
No bail, no plea for alleged killer Beau Lamarre-Condon
Tumblr media
A court has formally denied bail to former police officer Beau Lamarre-Condon over the alleged double-murder of Sydney couple Jesse Baird and Luke Davies.
The 28-year-old allegedly shot the couple at Jesse’s Sydney home on February 19, using his police-issued pistol.
A three-day manhunt followed before Lamarre-Condon turned himself in on February 23.
The sacked NSW Police constable has remained in custody ever since on two charges of murder.
The case was very briefly mentioned in Downing Centre Local Court today (April 23). A magistrate formerly denied a previous bail application.
Beau Lamarre-Condon’s lawyer John Walford said today his client only has a partial brief of evidence from NSW Police.
Today the magistrate adjourned the case until June 18. During that time, prosecutors will hand over the rest of the material.
Mr Walford said outside court he still doesn’t know how his client would plead.
Asked if the murder charges were “defendable”, the lawyer replied, “They could be,” but didn’t elaborate.
Beau Lamarre-Condon will stay in custody at Silverwater Prison.
Beau Lamarre-Condon up on two murder charges
At the time of the couple’s deaths, Beau Lamarre-Condon was a serving police constable.
NSW Police allege Lamarre-Condon planned to kill Jesse Baird because he was obsessed with the TV presenter.
According to police, Lamarre-Condon allegedly signed his police-issued pistol out of a locker days earlier, under false pretences, for the murder.
Luke Davies, police also allege, was murdered simply because he was with Jesse at home when Lamarre-Condon arrived.
Beau Lamarre-Condon has since been formally dumped from the NSW Police Force.
Following Sydney memorials, Jesse Baird was mourned at a funeral in his Melbourne hometown in March.
At the weekend, hundreds gathered in Brisbane’s New Farm Park at a service for Luke Davies.

The Cost of Cremation in Australia
Death is an event that affects us all at some point in our lives. When a loved one passes away, it can be a tragic time that fills us up with grief. This is why choosing how to keep and preserve your loved one’s body can help you feel more in control during a time of overwhelming sadness.
When one dies, one can choose to be buried in the ground or at sea. But as time goes on, more and more Australians are choosing cremation. Of the 128,500 Australians who die each year, around 70% of those are choosing cremation — a number that is rising by 0.5% each year. In Victoria, more than 65% of people are choosing cremation each year.
What is cremation?
Cremation is a well-known and less expensive alternative to traditional burials in which the body is reduced to a fine powder by extreme heat. Unlike traditional burials, which require years for the body to decompose underground, cremation just takes a few hours.
During cremation, the body is placed in a coffin or casket and then placed in a cremator. This procedure shrinks the body to a few bones. Following that, the residual fragments are ground into a powder usually referred to as “ashes” using a specialised processor. After that, the ashes are transferred to a temporary container or a family-provided urn.
Types of cremation
There are two main types of cremation options: direct cremation, and cremation with a service.
Direct Cremation
During a direct cremation, there is no formal service or ceremony involved. The family can then just hold a private gathering of their own choice after the cremation.
With direct cremation, the deceased is collected, then transported to the crematorium for the actual cremation, and then taken back to be stored at their premises until the family decides what to do with the ashes. The cost of cremation without service varies depending on the state that you live in and it can vary between $2,000 to $8,000.
Cremation with a Service
Tumblr media
Fees included in the cremation
The cremation cost usually includes all the services needed to carry out a cremation, such as travel, removal, death registration, funeral director services, administration, transfer and care of remains and a basic cremation container (casket). The additional costs can include a death certificate ($69), a memorial book ($40) and flowers ($300).
Here are some other fees included in the price of cremation:
Cremation Fee: The fee for the use of a crematorium chapel for service, attendance at service by crematorium staff and the actual process of cremation, including collection and return of ashes after cooling. The cost varies depending on whether you choose a weekday or weekend and whether you require music.
Doctor’s Fees: These can be anywhere between $150 to $300 depending on the type of doctor’s certificate required, whether they are local or interstate, whether they need to travel to where a person has passed away – particularly if in a hospital or aged care facility – or the person has passed away interstate.
Funeral Home Fee: This covers administration, staff, and facilities 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Also included is attendance at the place of death (often in hospital) removal from residence or hospital (including any after-hours charges that may apply).
Please know that these fees are not the same everywhere. They will differ from state to state.
Is cremation cheaper than a burial?
Cremation is more affordable than a burial in most cases. It also presents more options than the traditional funeral, which makes it highly appealing to many modern families.
It’s important to know that the cost of cremation in Australia is not a fixed price. There are a number of different cremation costs that you need to consider. These vary depending on where you live and which crematorium you choose. For example, in Brisbane, the average cost of cremation is $4,600, while the average cost of cremation in Melbourne is closer to $5,000.
Moreover, cremations in Victoria are government-regulated. They’re regulated by the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2003, as amended by the Cemeteries and Crematoria Regulations 2015. Under this law, cremations must be done by government cemeteries, and so the cost of cremation in Victoria is more expensive because they’re from the government.

Those Facing Financial Constraints
Funeral services in Melbourne also offer support for families and individuals who may be facing financial constraints. Funerals can be expensive, and not everyone has the resources to afford a lavish ceremony. Melbourne's funeral service providers understand this and work to provide affordable options without compromising on the dignity and respect that should accompany a final farewell.
There are several budget-friendly funeral packages available, ranging from simple cremations to basic burial services. These packages often include the essentials such as transportation, a coffin, and professional services. Funeral directors can guide families through the various options, ensuring that even on a budget, they can provide a respectful and meaningful farewell for their loved one. This support is invaluable for those who want to focus on grieving without the added worry of financial strain.
Those Seeking Grief Support
The loss of a loved one is one of the most difficult experiences anyone can face, and Melbourne's funeral services extend beyond just the logistics of planning a funeral. Many funeral providers also offer grief support and counseling services to help individuals and families cope with their loss. This support can be crucial for those who are struggling to come to terms with their grief and may need professional assistance to navigate this challenging time.
Grief support services can include individual counseling, group sessions, or even online resources. Funeral directors in Melbourne often have connections with local grief counselors and can recommend services that may be beneficial. This added support can make a significant difference in the healing process, providing comfort and guidance to those who need it most.
For some, the act of choosing funeral flowers in Melbourne and designing funeral wreaths can be a therapeutic way to engage with their grief, offering a way to express their emotions and honor their loved one in a tangible way. Funeral services that include grief support offer a holistic approach to the mourning process, ensuring that emotional needs are met alongside the practical aspects of saying goodbye.
Those Planning Pre-Arranged Funerals
More people are choosing to plan their own funerals in advance, ensuring that their final wishes are carried out and relieving their families of the burden of making difficult decisions during a time of grief. Melbourne’s funeral services offer pre-arranged funeral options for those who wish to plan ahead.
Pre-arranged funerals allow individuals to select everything from the type of service they want to the specific funeral flowers in Melbourne they would like displayed at their ceremony. This planning gives them control over their farewell, ensuring that it aligns with their personal beliefs and preferences. It also provides peace of mind, knowing that their family won’t be left to make those decisions under emotional stress.
