Hey
I know there are many, many things happening in the world right now and there is only so much time, energy and money people can invest in social justice but with the advance of fascism in Europe - 84 fascists from 12 different countries were elected to the European Parliament this year - and with the news of a 15yo Romani teenager dying during a police confrontation in England last week, I have compiled a list of different human rights organizations dedicated to helping Romani people in Europe.
Please donate if you can!

Cesta von (This Way Out) organization is based in Slovakia. Their Omama program works with the very youngest Romani children in particular. Their aim is a big and important one – extricating the inhabitants of the segregated settlements from the vicious circle of intergenerational poverty. The program targets the development of the intellect, motor skills and social skills in an attempt to increase the chances of children from socially excluded localities at living better adult lives. One of the main conditions for choosing the Omamas is that they must be Romani women who know the excluded locality well (source).
🇪🇸 La Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG)
The FSG develops all kinds of actions that contribute to achieving the full citizenship of Roma persons, improving their living conditions, promoting equal treatment and preventing all forms of discrimination, as well as promoting the recognition of the cultural identity of the Roma community.

I thought I would add the Fundación Secretariado Gitano for a Spain-based organization that helps Romani people in here.
There's a lot of anti-Romani racism in Dracula, and today's entry marks the start of it.
So I thought it might be a good opportunity to highlight some organisations that are working to promote Roma rights, and some ways, alongside donating, that you might be able to support them.
The European Roma Rights Centre carries out strategic litigation to support Roma rights, as well as doing advocacy and research. You can sign up to volunteer for them here; one volunteer-run project currently live is called Challenging Digital Antigypsyism, and focuses on identifying and reporting hate speech on social media platforms.
On a similar theme, Minority Rights Group International has a campaign toolkit on countering cyberhate against Roma. The focus of the campaign is Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia.
In the UK, Friends, Families and Travellers works to end racism and discrimination against Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people and to protect the right to pursue a nomadic way of life. If you're in the UK, you can ask your MP to sign their pledge card. And if you witness discriminatory comments in politics, you can report that here.
The Roma Support Group, based in London, works with Eastern European Roma refugees and migrants. They have a number of volunteer roles for people with regular time to offer.

April 8, 2020: Queen Letizia held a videoconference with representatives of the Calí Program (Gypsy Women)
Letizia has been interested in the situation of the gypsy woman in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Coinciding with the International Day of the Gypsy People, celebrated since 1971, she has held a videoconference with four women representatives of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano, who have informed the Queen about the situation of gypsy women in a community that it's among the most vulnerable groups to the health crisis caused by the coronavirus.
The participants of the videoconference were Cortes Muñoz, equality technician of the Calí program, in Albacete; Celia Gabarri, career counselor in the Palencia team and coordinator of the Foundation's Group of Gypsy Women; Sara Cortés, Coordinator of the Alcantarilla and Calasparra teams, in Murcia; and Ana Segovia, a journalist in the entity's Communication Area. There women are all references in their community and have spent years working for equality and the defense of the rights of Roma people. 86% of the Roma population is below the poverty line (with equivalent incomes of less than € 620 per month) and 46% of Roma households live in extreme poverty.
A great majority of this community conceives health as the absence of disease, and disease as a disabling situation linked to death. The concern for health begins when symptoms appear, so the concept of prevention is practically non-existent. In this situation, the participants relayed to the Queen the problems that gypsy women are experiencing, affected in a triple facet for being women in a patriarchal society, for belonging to an ethnic minority that receives the worst social value and for belonging to a culture whose gender values are associated in many cases to the role of mothers and wives.
During the videoconference they have commented:
- The difficult access to information, since it is more difficult for gypsy women to know and understand the measures established by the Alarm State, which makes it difficult for them to contribute to compliance and to prevent their vulnerability from increasing. Furthermore, most Roma women do not have the educational level necessary to support and supply the educational support that their children require at the moment. This represents a double difficulty in terms of the education of schoolchildren since most centers are using a telematic system to maintain academic activity and the digital divide in many Roma families is an added disadvantage.
- In addition, some gypsy families in a situation of serious social exclusion lack any type of economic income, being protected by family networks. Due to the suspension of school activities, school canteens have also been interrupted, spaces where many boys and girls could have a full meal.
- The situation of women victims of sexist violence who, due to confinement, are forced to live with their aggressors, making it difficult to report and access social, legal or psychological support, as well as adopt other measures to save lives . The digital gender gap and poverty are also present in this area, since many Roma women victims of sexist violence lack resources, including their own mobile phone.
- The isolation, the lack of access to health, social, and commercial resources, the social stigma that has been generated towards some enclaves and their residents, only deepen the exclusion of these people. Aggravated in recent weeks is an increase in hoaxes in the media and social networks that directly relate to Roma people with the spread of the coronavirus, causing the rejection of many women and girls in accessing goods and services in a pharmacy or a supermarket. These realities are accentuating the stigmatization of the Roma community.
The Fundación Secretariado Gitano also informed Doña Letizia that emergency resources have been mobilized to guarantee the delivery of food and basic necessities, such as medicines or basic hygiene products.

-APAMA: Discapacidad.
-ACRÓPOLI: LGTBI.
-SECRETARIADO GITANO.
-Representantes de la policía local de Alcobendas.
-Representantes de la policía Nacional de Algete.
-Organismos judiciales (Abogados,jueces y fiscales).

I'd be so cool if Roma people from other places could add to these type of posts. English speaking discourse sometimes leaves me just a lil bit confused, cause in Spain for example, while "Gitano" can be a slur, it's also, not only the word the vast majority of Roma people use to identify themselves, but also the word many organizations use ("Fundación Secretariado Gitano", or "Gitanas Feministas", come to mind), definitely a word meant to be used by non-roma. I have no authority here, but I'd say... use this info when speaking English, but maybe also check with your local Roma people?

10yo Romani girl died in a fire in Spain on February 21st. Firefighters arrived late and poorly equipped.
According to the Fundacion Secretariado Gitano, a Spanish Romani organization, that is one of the ways class and racism interact with one another; you get disenfranchised because of your race/ethnicity > you are more likely to be poor > you are more likely to live in a poor neighbourhood > those neighbourhoods are less likely to be up to date with safety norms and are less likely to receive rapid, sufficient help when needed. That is what structural racism looks like; it looks like these Romani people didn't receive proper help because they just so happened to live in a poor neighbourhood, when the reason they live in such a neighbourhood is because they are more likely to be poor due to anti-Romani racism, and now a 10yo Romani girl is dead because capitalist, European countries don't care about the safety of Romani children

Actually, fun fact, Republican Spaniards were also sent to concentration camps because the French already had concentration camps for the exiled Spaniards who fled the dictatorship.
Anyway, y'all, here's a donation link for Roma communities around Spain, since my country is racist as fuck and hates the Roma even though most of our culture was made by them ✨✌️
Stop forgetting Roma you cowards.
Already answered this ask, phrased very surprisingly the same way. Do not know why I'm a coward, do not know why in a conversation about Maus - a book written by Jewish to tell a Jewish perspective - has to include an addendum about all of the victims of the Holocaust.
It is, however, quite true that a lot of victims of the Holocaust are forgotten, including the Roma, who have suffered a lot under not just the Nazi regimen, but also modern day governments all over Europe.
I'm sorry I did not include a little note about the Roma also being targeted by the Nazis, but the conversation was about Maus and the systematic hiding of Jewish people's experiences.
