A Recognition We Can Get Behind
Making a list like this several years in a row is about more than winning awards for having a cool office. It’s about crafting an intentional work culture.
It’s not about having our own blend of locally roasted coffee and hosting team meals. It’s about forging an identity together.
It’s not about couches and dogs and the freedom to work from wherever. It’s about giving our team autonomy, choice, and control. It’s about trusting each other.
It’s not about benefits like unlimited vacation, volunteer days, and paid parental leave. It’s about designing a workplace that lets employees be their honest, authentic selves. To be humans, first and foremost.
But mostly, it’s about the work we do for our clients, helping them craft their very own intentional work cultures.
An award like this? It’s about the role we get to play in transforming workplaces everywhere.
If you’d like to know how we can help you create a more engaged workplace, here’s what you need to know now:

I feel bad for anyone who depends on Frontier internet services to get things done. It's been 8 hours since their second outage in under 24 hours. Their first outage yesterday was only 2 hours after I had it installed! 🤬 5 years after I cancelled my original service with them they have not improved ... #frontierinternet #frontiercommunications #internet #isp #internetprovider #streamers #streamingcommunity #pcgamers #pcgaming #twitchstreamers #twitchcommunity https://www.instagram.com/p/CXjZ9CLvNTK/?utm_medium=tumblr

@FRONTIERCOMMUNICATIONS WHY CAN’T I WATCH ABC LIVE ANYMORE FROM MY LAPTOP??? I CAN’T WATCH AGENTS OF SHEILD NOW AND I’M VERY UPSET. HOW DARE U TELL ME YOU DON’T SERVE THE AREA I’M IN. LET COLLEGE STUDENTS USE THEIR MOM’S CABLE SUBSCRIPTION ANYWHERE THIS IS 2018
I’m going to be just following live blogging now because I’ve been super stressed all week about this and there is no way in hell I’ll make it through another 24 hours sooo thanks frontier.
I swear Robbie Reyes WILL show up in this episode, and quakerider things WILL happen AND I CAN’T WATCH IT LIVE. WHAT DID I DO TO PISS OFF THE UNIVERSE?? WHY DO YOU CONTINUE TO SPITE ME? FITZSIMMONS THINKS THEY’RE CURSED, HON YOU THOUGHT.
Can I sue for emotional damages if Robbie shows up? That will hold up in court. This is why I’m going to go to law school right?

Frontier Communications Frontier Internet
So its been over two months since I ordered service with these clowns. And they keep inventing new excuses as to why they haven’t been here yet. Yesterday they said that they would be here in the morning. At noon they said they would be here within the hour, that was over two hours ago.
WTF?
How is this possible?

We’re Gone for the Day (For a Fantastic Reason)
Tumblr media
We’ve always believed in giving our team the time to give back to the community to follow and support causes in which they believe. We give each employee two full days per year to give back, and we match donations to 501c3 organizations up to $250 per year per employee. The business benefits of doing this are clear – you can read more about that here.
And our team loves it. Last summer, a few of us volunteered at a farm pulling weeds. For an entire school year, Lauren mentored a sixth-grade girl through Make Space, a program that teaches self-exploration through art. Just before the holidays, Jamie spent a day giving back through Meals on Wheels.
But today for this year’s MLK Day of Service, we decided to do something different—close our entire studio for the day and give back to the community as a team. So if we’re slow to respond on email or your call goes unanswered, it’s because we’re at Elk Hill, (a school that works with adolescents facing overwhelming challenges, from early trauma and adversity to mental and behavioral health needs) sprucing up their facilities. (Our remote team will also join in, each finding an opportunity to explore in their own backyards.)
Rest assured—we’ll get back in touch as soon as we can, bringing broadened perspectives and enlightened minds to the table.

An Intentional Culture (Complete with a Bike Desk)
Tumblr media
In this Sunday’s local paper: our wellbeing program, featured for being a model for the modern—and healthy—workplace.
As the article notes, our strategy stems from a place of intention, an understanding that we spend the bulk of our waking hours at work, and as such, our workplaces must support a well mindset. So we pilot new initiatives and internal challenges through Project Well, iterating and testing to see what resonates with a busy workforce and what falls flat.
A few things we’re trying out this month:
A bike desk, which will be stationed in our studio and available for our team to test out and use. A few of us have already hopped on and given it a spin.
A focus on nutrition, which will involve open conversations about different diet theories to help our team make the most of their 2017 nutrition goals.
A lineup of local experts, who will visit our studio and teach us a few new tricks like how to ferment our own foods and how to cook quick and easy meals.
What we learn, we share with our clients, helping them transform their own organizations into more productive and engaged teams. If you’re ready to start a conversation, here’s what you need to know now:

The Beautiful Game
We took a half-day off work to play soccer. Here’s why.
Tumblr media
Why would some of the Frontier team leave our studio to play soccer for a half-day? Not for stress relief, or physical fitness, or fun (ok, a little bit of all those things). We did it because we want to encourage everyone at Frontier to support the causes in which they believe. So some of us decided to lend a hand (er, foot) at the ReEstablish Richmond soccer camp.
ReEstablish Richmond provides support services for area refugees, with the goal that they’ll become self-sufficient in an unfamiliar cultural and economic landscape. It’s week-long day camp serves the children of refugee families during Spring Break, a time when parents might need to be at work even though school is out. Alongside ReEstablish staff and members of the VCU women’s soccer team, we drilled and scrimmaged (some of us even scored a goal!), then passed out popsicles donated by King of Pops.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Frontier already gives each employee two full days per year to give back, and we match donations to 501c3 organizations up to $250 per year per employee. But in 2017, we’re expanding our efforts. We’re selecting four specific charitable organizations to focus on—one for each quarter, drawn from the suggestions of individual Frontier team members.
We invite each organization to come into our offices and speak to our team about their cause. Then, we find ways to involve ourselves, both as individuals and as a group. Often this means putting our unique skills to work: organizational change, employee engagement, negotiation and leadership training, video production, graphic design, narrative storytelling. But it can also mean other things—like volunteering at the ReEstablish Richmond soccer camp.
We do this because we believe it’s the right thing to do, but we also know that it has business benefits (you can read more about that here). As a company, we don’t exist in a vacuum—we’re part of a living, breathing community. And by helping to build a healthier community, we’re building a healthier company.
