Tender (Sein X Reader)

w/c - 1.1k content - look at that- my first frieren fic; there's really nothing like an alcohol-loving traveling priest, f!reader, mentions of smoking and drinking. For the wonderful @peepeepopoooo, hope you like it.
˚• . ° . • . ° . • . ° . • . ° . • . ° . • . ° . • . ° . • . ° . • . ° . • . ° . • . ° . • . ° . • .
When it rains, it pours. And when it poured, all the older men of the village, and occasionally some sneaky young boys, would gather in the tavern, downing drinks like the barrels would run dry the day after.
"Slow down, old man; there's plenty left." You chastise the mayor with a smile, putting down three new mugs of beer on the table with a thud, "Wouldn't want your wife dragging your unconscious body through the village in the morning again, now would we?"
"I thought barmaids were supposed to encourage drinking." A voice cuts in, and you turn to witness a man in a clergy robe, a cigarette hanging loosely from the corner of his mouth, shuffling playing cards thoroughly in his hands.
"I thought priests weren't supposed to drink."
"It helps us stay close to the goddess." He puts down the card deck to take a swig of his beer, leaving a trail of white foam on his upper lip.
"Does it really?" You pick up the empty mug from his table.
"No," He wipes his mouth with his sleeve, "But it's a great conversation starter with pretty barmaids." And you blush, almost forgetting yourself in his green eyes.
"I wouldn't say it's great."
He chuckles, soft and low, with a hint of redness on his cheeks which you weren't sure if came from the drinks or your words, and it's enough for you to think about him even after the tavern closes, with the rain still knocking on your window as you try to fall asleep.
-
"A drunk traveling priest?" Your friend locks eyes with you as you recollect the memories from the other night, "What good would that do? You should find a nice guy from the village. Better a hunter or an owner of some shop; they always have something to bring back home." You stand and nod at the sensible comments, cleaning yesterday's mugs as you throw looks at the table the priest sat at only hours ago, wondering if he'll come again today.
And he does. He walks in with a cigarette already lit and avoids your gaze as he finds the furthest seat from the bar counter.
"Would you like something to drink?"
"What do you have?" And he watches you laugh, the thought crossing your mind that he's probably already used to the big-city taverns.
"Well, you see.." You say, making a deliberate pause, which he catches on to, "Sein." He adds, and you grin, already pouring a drink. "Well, you see, Sein. This is a unique tavern, unlike those you've probably been to a thousand times. We serve beer on weekdays, but on weekends, it's beer - and sometimes - but only on very special occasions, there's this drink that we serve. I mean, I could tell you, but it's kind of a secret."
"Is it beer?" Sein asks, the ashes falling off his cigarette as he chuckles.
"How'd you know?" You pull a surprised expression while you make your way with the drink to his table.
"Just a hunch."
-
"Sein!" You exclaim, running towards him on the path leading out of the village, "Leaving already?"
"Just going to get some medicinal herbs," he smirks, "why, think you'd miss me?"
"I would miss the money left on your open tab." And he blushes, a hand reaching out to rub the back of his neck.
"Oh, I - uh, It's fine, I'll pay it tonight." He stutters, watching the grin disappear from your face.
"Oh goddess, no, it's a joke!" Your face flushes red as you're reduced to babbling incoherence to excuse yourself from the situation.
-
"Let me help," he extends a hand to lift a few mugs from the now-emptied table, the tavern's dim light reflecting in his eyes.
"I couldn't possibly let a customer help," you reach to grab the mugs from his arms, "besides, I heard you're leaving tomorrow; you should go get some sleep before it's too late."
"I don't mind." he takes the mugs up to the bar counter, watching the last intoxicated villagers leave the place, their drunken laughter still audible through the door.
You clean up silently, watching him wipe the tables as you sweep the dirt left on the floors. A slight unease grows when you think of his imminent departure, your eyes drifting toward his face, lingering for a little too long as you try to memorize his features.
"I heard the mayor almost lost his finger." You finally say.
"Hmm?" He picks up his gaze, "Ah, well, a healing spell mended it rather quickly. He was ecstatic, you see," He curled his pointer finger in front of his face, "It's the one thing that makes his wife happy."
And you blush at his words, "It's the what?"
"I mean, if he couldn't pull the string on his hunting bow, it would have made for a terrible winter." He stops in his tracks, "Why, what'd you think?"
"N-nothing," you stammer, and he burst into laughter, almost dropping the cloth from his hand. You feel a tug in your heart, a passing notion that you would miss that laughter more than you should, "You vulgar priest," you mutter under your breath.
"I think it's rather clean now, don't you?" He watches you swipe the broom over the spotless floors over and over again, and you sigh, knowing that you can't prolong the moment any longer.
"Yes, I think it is." You put the broom down by the counter, leaning on a table next to Sein, "Well, I think it's goodbye now, isn't it?"
But he doesn't move from the seat he took by the table, his leg bouncing on the wooden floor. "I guess it is."
"Ah, don't look so sad, priest. There are many towns and many taverns on the way to your destination, aren't there?" You find the courage to smile.
"It's the barmaid I'd miss." He confesses.
"You'll make the barmaid blush if you keep talking like that," you mumble, "and you never even asked for her name."
"(Y/N)." he utters, getting up from his seat, "You really think I wouldn't ask around for the beautiful barmaiden's name?"
And you taste the tobacco on his lips as he presses them onto yours, and the fading flavor of beer on his tongue when he slips it into your mouth. He draws your body closer to his, and a shiver crawls up your spine at the warm touch of his palm on the back of your neck before he lets his hand get lost in your hair.
"I thought priests weren't supposed to kiss," you smile when you break away from the kiss for a moment.
"They really aren't," he leans in closer again, "but it's the best kind of vice."
-
"I still have to leave tomorrow," he says, his voice hushed from the guilt.
"I never asked you to stay," you remarked, and he furrowed his brows, "but if you ever grow tired of traveling, there's this place that serves beer that I think you might like."

[Y/N let out a chuckles and starts grinning]

Hiyaa there! Can i make a req of hc the dynamic between sakura, umemiya, and suo crushing on reader who is introvert but have some funny remarks (like frieren if you know?)
hello!!! if i understand correctly all three guys love y/n at the same time, right? Lets goo, i hope that you will like them!<3
sakura, umemiya, suo x introvert reader
Tumblr media
tw: none, english is not my native language
↪ sometimes suo out of nowhere will say things like "ah, that bracelet reminds me of what y/n told me yesterday!" sakura won't stop wondering what happened. umemiya will ask kotoha if she knows anything (btw: you didn't tell suo anything yesterday because you didn't even meet, he just likes to annoy others)
↪ suo likes you a lot since the first time you've met each other "yeah, i am y/n, but you can call me tomorrow!" he loves your jokes and remakrs;
↪ suo is the type who will constantly message you in their group chat without worrying about the reaction of others;
↪ when sakura, suo, and nirei pass through your street, sakura will blush and suo won't stop asking the reason with a smile on his face, even though he knows very well why sakura is suddenly blushing;
↪ umemiya will surely tell everyone with a bright smile that he spent time with you yesterday. suo will be irritated a little, but will cover it with a smile and continue to act as if nothing happened (but in the evening he will ask you for details);
↪ you will often explain to umemiya and suo that you enjoy spending time with yourself. sakura will not stop to yell "leave her alone" (and suo will be like: "huh, sakura-san wants l/n-san just for himself~");
↪ when you are rude to rude people "my tallest finger suddenly loves you", sakura will cheer you up so much secretly;
↪ whenever sakura complains about the food, umemiya laughts at your remarks "sakura-san, at this point you are going to complain when a donut has a hole", you sighed.
↪ but umemiya and suo always love, laugh and tell other people some strange/funny things you've said before (competing about who is going to say first?)

Frieren reader x Himmel Suo??? 🗣️🔥🔥🔥
omgg I’m so sorry for the lateness me and my pea brain I hope you’re still here!! goshh I love frieren and himmel 😭💗
Tumblr media Tumblr media
❥ So so I imagine it would a party of four just like in Frieren. Where Sakura is Eisen and Nirei is Heiter, together you are the party that will slay the demon king!
❥ Sakura is blushing really hard every time Suo tries to show affection to (Y/N), sometimes Nirei has to physically make Sakura turn around before he combusts into flames. However, with the rate of how many times Suo tries, Sakura says he's getting used to it. He's still not used to it.
❥ Suo absolutely loves to tease you at various moments, whether you're fighting monsters or sitting idly by the campfire. It's his life's mission to get you to blush at his words at least once. However, he's the one who ends up inwardly flustered because you're just too unconsciously cute. He swears his heart leapt out of his chest when you blew a flying kiss towards him.
❥ Speaking of dungeons, Suo knows you are fully capable of protecting yourself but he can't help but keep an eye out for you. Especially because you tend to fall into mimic traps too easily. In which he has to pull you out of the monster's mouth and sometimes your skirt dangerously rises and he has to look away, cause he's a gentleman like that.
❥ Every time you use your magic, Suo and the whole team are in awe. They can't believe they managed to convince you (it was Suo who convinced you) to join their party. You make magic look so effortless and he absolutely adores the way you always try to look for more spells to learn even if it's not the coolest spell. Suo even fought a dragon just so you get the spell book that contains the spell that automatically irons your clothes.
❥ When visiting a town, you and Suo were walking around the market place until your eye catches a ring at the jewelry stall. Suo immediately noticed and pulled you to the stall despite your insistence of not being interested. It was a ring with the flower of the mirrored lotus. He bought the ring of course.
❥ You completely forgot about the ring until one day as your party was in a field of flowers. Suddenly, Suo calls you over to him. You walk towards him unknowingly only for him to get down on one knee in front of you, taking your hand in his as he slips the ring he bought to your ring finger. Unbeknownst to you that the ring - the flower on it symbolizes his eternal love towards you. He knows you'll outlive him and he hopes that the ring could serve as a reminder to you of him and the unchanging love he has for you.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Third P.O.V.
"Mage Wednesday Adamus."
"Hero Y/n Celest."
"Priestess Enid Amilair."
"Warrior Yoko Tana."
The king's words echo through the square, the crowd of citizens listening intently to his pronouncement. The king proclaimed in turn, before continuing.
"You've done well defeating the demon king. A peaceful era will know dawn upon this world."
The citizens let out cries of joy upon hearing the king's words, clearly ecstatic at the realization that the age of strife had finally come to an end.
Wednesday P.O.V.
We are now walking in the plaza, having just departed from the castle.
"It appears that the King intends to commission statues of us for display in this very plaza," Y/n states.
I acknowledge with a nod, my face betraying no hint of the tumult of emotions swirling within me.
"Indeed, the King did mention such a plan," I respond, my voice maintaining an even and imperturbable tone. "Such a way of recognizing one's contributions is rather strange, I must remark."
"well, I have strong doubts on whether or not they'll be able to faithfully reproduce a handsome woman like me though. HAHAHAHA." y/n reply as she laugh.
Indeed, Y/N's beauty was undeniable. Her striking blue eyes and her (messy short hair/hijab/her long hair/curly hair, etc.) somehow combined to form an captivating image that drew me in more than I cared to admit.
"Yes, it would indeed be quite a challenge for any sculptor to do justice to a visage of such captivating charm and perfection," I concede.
Y/n laughs heartily, clearly enjoying my dry humor.
"Oh, absolutely," she says, her voice dripping with false modesty. "I have no doubt they'll manage to capture my humble perfection flawlessly. It'll be like looking in a mirror."
"Oh, of course," I reply dryly. "How could any mere mortal sculptor possibly hope to capture the absolute flawless beauty that you possess? It's a futile endeavor, really."
I roll my eyes, but I can't help a small smirk from forming on my lip. Her exaggerated modesty is irritating, yet weirdly endearing at the same time.
Y/n gives an exaggerated curtsy, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
"Why, thank you," she says, feigning a look of mock surprise. "I had no idea you thought so highly of my appearance."
I huff out a small huff of amusement, but I quickly regain my composure.
"I doubt anyone has ever thought lowly of your appearance," I retort. "Your beauty is quite... noticeable."
As we banter back and forth, I can't help but wonder yet again why this woman, with her irritatingly charismatic demeanor, has such an inexplicable effect on me. It's maddening.
Suddenly, enid interrupt us.
"Now now. Wednesday. We can drink alcohol for free now, so is that more than enough?" Enid spoke this time as she's holding a mug of beer. Ironically she's a priestess.
I glance at Enid, raising an eyebrow at her suggestion.
"You just can't resist a free drink, can you, Enid?" I say in a dry tone, already knowing the answer.
Enid grins unrepentantly, shrugging with feigned innocence.
"What can I say? It's a perk of the job," she replies, her tone light. "Plus, it would be a crime not to take advantage of the King's generosity."
"You corrupt priestess." I replied dryly.
Enid just laughs at my comment, unbothered by my bluntness.
"Guilty as charged!" Enid replies with a shrug and a cheeky grin. "But can you blame me? Free drinks and a priestess salary? I'm practically living the dream."
I roll my eyes once again at her carefree demeanor, but there's a hint of amusement in my expression.
"You know, one day your habit of drinking and carefree attitude might get you into trouble," I can't help but add, a hint of warning in my voice.
Enid just waves off my comment with a dismissive gesture.
"Oh, please. Where's the fun in being a priestess if I have to worry about getting into trouble?" she replies cheekily. "Besides, I know how to handle myself. I'll be fine."
I shake my head, knowing that arguing with her is futile. Enid has always been carefree and wild, even when we first meet.
"Whatever you say," I say with a hint of resignation. "But don't come crying to me when something inevitably goes wrong."
As we continue walking, yoko spoke this time. "It's all over, huh?"
"Yes it is. This marks the end of our journey." Y/n said.
"Ten years, hmm? A lot of happened in that time has it not?" Enid said in thoughtful while she's holding a jag of beer.
I give a contemplative nod, acknowledging the gravity of our shared experience. Despite the fact that our adventure feels like it has lasted only a few weeks, I am keenly aware that it has been a significant span of time given the vast differences in the lifespans of elves, dwarf and humans.
"Even on the day if departure, Y/n and yoko going to be executed for being impertinent to the King." Enid think before she giggled.
I roll my eyes at Enid's remark, but there is a hint of exhaustion in the gesture.
"Please, let's not start with that again," I say, my tone carrying a hint of weariness. "There's no need to bring up the fact that we all would have been executed by the King on the day of our departure. I'd rather not dwell on that unpleasant memory."
Y/n gave an amused chuckle, clearly not bothered by the reminder.
"Oh, come on, Wednesday," she says with a smirk. "Where's your sense of drama? I think being executed for impertinence kind of fits our story, don't you think?"
I shoot her a disapproving glare, but can't help but feel a pang of amusement at her unflappable attitude.
Then Y/n added in amused in her tone, "There were also times when Enid would be totally useless after getting a hangover, hm?"
"And that would happen to her once every week." Yoko added.
I can't help but let out a weary sigh at the mention of Enid's tendency to overindulge in alcohol. It's a habit of hers that I have grown accustomed to over the years.
"I swear, that girl has the liver of a dragon," I comment dryly. "It boggles the mind how she manages to function in the morning after such excesses."
Enid merely gave a sheepish grin, seemingly unrepentant.
"What can I say? A girl has her vices," she replied, sipping her beer unflapped.
Yoko shakes her head with a fond smile. "You truly are incorrigible, Enid."
It becomes apparent that I possess a greater level of proficiency in our current moment, so I respond as such.
"On that note, I was outstanding —" suddenly I was cut off.
"Wednesday. We considered leaving you behind when you got gobbled by a mimic." Yoko remind it.
I let out a small scoff at Yoko's reminder, recalling the less than favorable incident in question.
"Yes, that was...unfortunate," I admit, my tone grudging. "But it was a momentary lapse in judgment, and I rectified the situation quite efficiently, if I do say so myself."
Enid couldn't help but laugh at the comment.
"Don't sugarcoat it, Wednesday. You got completely owned by a mimic," she teased, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "And I seem to recall you screaming like a little girl when it swallowed you whole."
"To clarify, I am not exerting these high-pitched exclamations out of torment," I responded with my characteristic deadpan tone. "Rather, I am expressing my surprise at not encountering Grim Reaper." I added, injecting a touch of dry humor into my words.
Yoko chuckled, clearly amused by my explanation.
"Oh, of course. Because it's completely normal to scream in a non-agony way when faced with the prospect of meeting Mr. Death, right?" she said, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
Enid snorted in agreement, her laughter growing heartier as she struggled to contain herself.
"Geez.. it seems we've only ever had ridiculous memories. But still it was fun. I'm glad I could adventure with you all." Y/n said as she grinning towards us.
"Yes.. it is." Enid smiles.
"It was short though." I simple said it.
"Short? What do you mean? It was ten years, you know?" Y/n reply as she shook her head. Then she goes beside to Enid.
"Look at Enid. She's totally reaching that age. Pitifully."
Enid gives Y/n a playful swat on the arm, a hint of mock indignation in her eyes.
"Hey, I'm not old yet, you know!" she protests, though she can't completely suppress a laugh.
Yoko joins in the teasing, her smirk widening.
"Oh come on, Enid. We all know you're reaching that ripe old age where you need regular naps and plenty of anti-aging creams."
"How rude." Enid reply as she roll her eyes.
"She's been like that since the beginning hasn't she?" I comment.
Y/n grins cheekily, clearly enjoying the banter.
"Oh, and don't forget the grey hairs. I can already see them sprouting on her head."
Enid huffs in mock irritation, her hands flying to her hair in a protective gesture.
"Hey! I still have plenty of years before I start getting grey hairs, you know! And also I'm practically younger than you in one year!"
Y/n and Yoko both laughed loudly at Enid's reaction, clearly enjoying getting a rise out of her.
"It won't be long now will it?" Yoko said
But then our conversation stop as we saw the sky. After all it was night time. The meteor shower.
We all fell silent as we lifted our gazes towards the night sky, utterly enthralled by the breathtaking sight unfolding above us. The heavens were clear, and the meteor shower was at its zenith, with streaks of light streaking across the sky like a celestial cascade.
A reverent hush enveloped our group, each of us too entranced by the mesmerizing display to utter a word.
"The 'Era Meteor' I believe they where called." Enid suddenly piped up in response.
"A meteor shower that happens once every 50 years." Y/n added.
"A perfect beginning of peaceful era." she concluded, her words suffused with a sense of wonder.
I caught the whispered words spilling from her lips as she continued to gaze fixedly at the sky. "How majestic..."
I continued to stare up at the sky, my thoughts wandering as I watched the meteors streak across the darkness.
"It's hard to see in this town, isn't it?" I asked them suddenly.
"There people having a moment. Try to reading a mood." Y/n rolled her eyes, amused by my bluntness.
Enid chuckled softly, shaking her head.
"Wednesday, your timing could use some work," she said, a hint of amusement in her tone.
Yoko gave a light-hearted giggle, clearly unsurprised by my bluntness.
"In that case," I address them, "Fifty years hence, I am certain of a locale where we shall witness an even more breathtaking spectacle. Therefore, I shall take it upon myself to guide you all there."
Enid's grin widens, a glimmer of excitement in her eyes.
"Oh? Planning ahead for our future get-togethers, are you?" she teases.
Yoko laughs softly, her gaze thoughtful. "Fifty years from now, huh? Sounds like an adventure worth looking forward to."
I discern the soft sound of Y/n's giggles, and my gaze meets with the fondness that dances across her features.
"What?" I query, my voice tinged with curiosity.
She responds with a tender smile, "Oh, it's nothing, Wednesday."
The way she looked at me, with that familiar gaze and the sparkle in her eyes, made me realize how captivating she truly was.
It was as if all her natural beauty suddenly intensified, her eyes resembling the mesmerizing blue hue of the elegant blue moon flower. It was almost enchanting.
I couldn't help but respond to her smile with a small, almost imperceptible one of my own. There was something about her that made me feel a mix of comfort and a sense of kinship, as if we shared a secret that only the two of us knew.
"And yes, let's watched together." she added, her eyes now fixated on the heavens above.
—————
"I too shall bid you all farewell for now." I responded, my gaze lingering upon each of my companions in turn.
"What are your plans upon parting ways?" Y/n inquired, although she was already aware of my intentions.
"I shall persist in my pursuit of arcane knowledge, with the aim of exploring the central provinces for the next century," I informed her calmly.
"Ah, the pursuit of knowledge. Always a worthy endeavor for you, isn’t it?" Y/n chuckled, her expression amused.
Enid snickered, clearly not surprised by my declaration. "Of course, of course. You and your love for knowledge."
Yoko's eyes flickered with understanding. "The Central Provinces, eh? That's a vast region to explore. But if anyone can handle it, it's definitely you, Wednesday."
I gave a slight nod, acknowledging Yoko's words. "Indeed, the Central Provinces offer a wealth of knowledge to be discovered. I look forward to delving into its libraries and manuscripts for as long as I can manage."
Upon uttering those words, I turn my back and begin to stride away, deliberately averting my gaze from my companions as I do so.
"Hey, you're not even going to say goodbye?" Enid called out in a half-hearted protest.
Yoko chuckled, used to my aloof demeanor. "You know that's just how Wednesday rolls."
I halted my footsteps but didn't look back, offering a simple response over my shoulder.
"There's no need for farewells. This isn’t a final goodbye. We will meet again." I was about to walk but...
"Wednesday..."
Hearing Y/N's voice calling out to me, I paused in my steps for a moment, though I did not turn around to face her.
"Your promise to come back to me, right?"
The weight of her question weighed heavily on me, and I knew that my response would hold great importance to her. I stood there silently for a few moments, not wanting to give a hollow assurance without truly understanding what she was asking of me.
After a long pause, I turned around to face her, my gaze steady and resolute.
"Yes," I said, my voice firm and unwavering. "I assure you, I will come back to you."
The certainty in my voice left no room for doubt or speculation, and I could see the relief and hope in Y/N's eyes, her shoulders relaxing as if a weight had been lifted from them.
I held Y/N's gaze for a few moments longer, silently conveying the seriousness and determination behind my words.
Then, without another word, I turned around and continued walking away, knowing that I had given her the assurance she had been seeking.
A part of me was reluctant to leave, the desire to stay by her side growing stronger as I put distance between us. But, I knew that I had a greater mission to fulfill, and I could not let my emotions interfere with my duty.
I could feel their eyes on my back, probably exchanging glances but I kept my gaze forward. There was no need for a grandiose farewell. We all knew our paths would cross again, and that was enough.
Third P.O.V.
Enid responds with a soft, amused tone, "It seems, Wednesday was really have a soft spot on you, y/n. Even that Elven emotions are somewhat elusive to us humans, doesn't it?"
Y/N chuckled softly, her eyes reflecting a mixture of warmth and playfulness.
"Well, Wednesday has always been a unique individual, to say the least," she said with a fond smile. "And you're right, her elven emotions are often difficult for us to decipher. But there are moments when her true feelings shine through, despite her cold exterior."
Enid gave a small smirk, her eyes gleaming with mischief.
"And I have a hunch that those moments are more frequent when she's around you," she teased, raising an eyebrow suggestively.
Yoko chuckled and chimed in, her grin widening.
"Oh, absolutely. I've seen it myself - the way Wednesday's eyes soften just a bit when she looks at you. It's almost imperceptible, but it's there."
"I agree," Y/n responds softly, a hint of amusement in her voice, "but it appears that Wednesday herself has yet to acknowledge her own feelings."
Unable to suppress a gentle giggle, she adds, "It will likely take her several years to fully comprehend."
Enid and Yoko nodded in agreement, their grins widening.
Enid chuckled and said, "Oh, I don't have any doubt about that. Wednesday is stubborn as hell. She'll probably deny it to the end of the world before admitting her true feelings."
Yoko chimed in with a smirk. "But we all know the truth, don't we? It's only a matter of time before she realizes it herself."
Y/N smiled softly, a hint of affection in her eyes.
"Yes, it will take time, but I'm confident she will come to acknowledge her feelings in her own time," she said. "After all, sometimes the most stubborn individuals only need a little push and patience to unlock their true emotions."
Enid and Yoko exchanged a knowing grin, both silently agreeing on the truth of Y/N's words.
"Well, I hope she comes to her senses soon," Enid said with a playful huff. "It's getting tiring watching her try to hide her feelings all the time."
"And hopefully, we'll be there to witness it when she finally does," Yoko said, her voice low and filled with amusement.
Y/n, her curiosity piqued, mutters quietly to herself, "Just how long has our dear Wednesday been alive, I wonder?"
"Even if fifty years or a hundred years pass, It's probably just another day to her." she added, a hint of wonder in her voice.

Wednesday Adamus P.O.V.
It seems our journey has finally come to an end after we defeated the Demon King. Right now, Y/n and I are walking in the street as she plans to buy me a reward for defeating the Demon King.
Given that it was just the two of us, we continued our exploration of the stalls and merchants along the street. The thoroughfare was alive with activity, and the savoury smells of roasted meats and sugary confections filled the air. Children darted past us, their carefree laughter and playful tag games creating an air of merriment, transforming the scene into something reminiscent of a lively festival. Enid and Yoko, meanwhile, were engaged in their own pursuits.
I glanced towards Y/n, noticing her scanning the stalls with a thoughtful expression.
Y/n, being the sociable person she is, seemed right in her element as she browsed the stalls and chatted with the traders.
Her smile widened as she stopped in front of a particularly colorful stall, her eyes fixed on a array of trinkets and jewelry.
"Hey, Wednesday," she said, glancing over at me. "Come take a look at this. See anything you like?"
I moved to join Y/n at the stall, examining the assortment of trinkets, jewelry and miscellaneous items on display. The baubles on the table glistened in the sunlight, their hues as vibrant and diverse as a spectrum of colors.
I didn't need anything material to be happy, but Y/n was clearly enjoying the process of browsing for a gift for me. So I indulgently scanned the items with a neutral expression.
"No," I answered simply, not seeing anything of interest.
Y/n chuckled, not surprised by my response. "I figured as much," she said, her tone resigned. "You never were one for material things."
Y/n redirected her focus to the stall, her eyes skimming over the array of luminous trinkets on display. She examined each item meticulously, picking them up and then setting them aside with a shake of her head.
She then moved to another stall, and I dutifully followed.
For whatever reason, her unwavering resolve to find a suitable present for me was oddly endearing.
I watched as she persistently sought out the perfect gift, her dedication almost comical. Although I harbored a general indifference towards materialistic possessions, I found myself silently amused
Having observed her dismiss several items, I couldn't help but offer a remark. "You are aware that you are not obligated to purchase anything for me, correct?" I inquired, my voice betraying a trace of amusement.
Y/n glanced over at me and responded with a playful grin.
"I know that," she said, mock offense in her tone. "But I 'want' to get you something. You deserve it after all we've been through."
She redirected her attention to the stall, her eyes once again sweeping over the merchandise on display. This time, her expression was more earnest, as if she was fixated on finding something worthy enough to be bestowed upon me.
A slight eye roll escaped me, accompanied by an repressed smile. Y/n’s steadfast determination could be both endearing and infuriating.
As she persisted in her quest, her expression growing more and more concentrated, I pondered what it might be that she was searching for. Something practical? Something sentimental? Or perhaps something entirely random. With her, it could be any number of things.
We proceeded to another stall as she continued her search, sighing in frustration. “Wednesday,” she said, “You can choose whatever you like.”
I raised an eyebrow, surprised by her sudden offer. "Are you sure?"
Y/n nodded, clearly tired of searching. "Yes, go on. Choose anything you like."
I took a moment to consider her offer. It was unusual for me to choose a gift, but if Y/n wanted to end this futile hunt, I wasn’t about to argue.
I turned my gaze towards the stalls, looking for something but I just pick it up randomly.
"That was quick, you should put more thought into it." She replied with a pout.
I couldn't help but smirk at her pout, knowing how much she wanted me to pick something ‘perfect’. “I don’t need more thought,” I replied dryly. “This is fine.”
I held up the ring for her to see. It was a simple silver ring, plain and unadorned. It didn’t have any jewels, but it has a flower called lotus, but it was sturdy and well-made.
Y/n studied the ring, her pout transforming into a look of surprised look in her face before she smile.
I raised an eyebrow at her reaction. "What?" I asked, my voice slightly defensive.
Y/n just chuckled and shook her head. "Nothing," she said, a gentle smile purse in her lips while she stare at the ring as holding it.
We started to walk, after y/n's pay the ring towards the old lady.
As we walked, I couldn't help but glance at Y/n, still confused by her reaction to the ring. It was an ordinary thing to me, nothing special. But her smile suggested there was something more to it.
"Why do you look so pleased?" I asked, my voice betraying a little curiosity.
"It's nothing," she replied softly, her gaze fixed on the ring as we continued to walk.
"Wednesday," she called this time, causing me to expect her to hand it back.
"Thank you," I replied, but then, as if in slow motion, she stepped forward and knelt before me, gently taking my hand in hers as we stood Infront of the clock tower.
With a soft smile, she then proceeded to slide the ring onto my ring finger.
I watched, stunned into silence, as she slipped the ring onto my finger.
For a moment, I simply stared at the ring, now a part of me. I wasn’t one for sentimental gestures, but this felt...different.
I looked down at Y/n, still kneeling before me, her smile unwavering.
"What are you doing?" I asked finally, my voice barely above a whisper.
Y/n smiled up at me, her eyes glimmering. Her answer was simple, but it held a weight that echoed in my chest.
"This ring," she said, her voice soft but steady, "Is a symbol. A symbol of our journey together."
She took my hand in both of hers, her fingers gently tracing the band of the ring.
"It's a symbol," she continued, her gaze never breaking from mine, "of what we've been through and what we’ve achieved. But most of all, it's a symbol of my promise to you."
Her actions had left me befuddled and her words sent a flutter of unfamiliar emotions coursing through me.
"Do you promise?" I asked, my voice quivering slightly.
Y/n responded with a resolute nod, her smile swelling with sincerity.
"Yes," she confirmed, "A promise that no matter what trials the future holds, I will remain at your side."
"But our groups will disperse after we defeat the Demon King," I reminded her. "In fifty years, I will set out on a journey alone. Will you still be waiting for me here when I return?"
Y/n nodded, her expression serious. "I am aware," she murmured softly. "However, it simply means that we must savor the time we have together to the fullest."
She gently squeezed my hand, not releasing her grip just yet. "And when your journey is complete and you return, I will be right here, steadfastly waiting for you."
There was a twinge of unease in my heart as her words settled in my mind. Fifty years was a considerable span for humans, and the possibilities of what could transpire within that timeframe were vast. For me, however, 50 years was merely equivalent to a handful of months - a stark difference in our respective lifespans.
"What if...you change your mind?" I voiced the thought that had been lingering in the back of my mind since she knelt before me.
Y/n shook her head, her eyes filled with unwavering determination. "I won't," she replied, her voice firm.
She squeezed my hand more tightly. "I promise you, Wednesday," she said, her gaze burning into mine. "I will wait for you. No matter how long it takes. I will wait for you to come back to me."
I held her gaze, searching her eyes for any sign of doubt or hesitation.
There was none.
I realized then that Y/n's commitment to me was as real and true as the ring on my finger. She wasn't just making a promise in the heat of the moment. She truly meant it.
I opened my mouth, my mind whirling to find a response, but no words came. Instead, I just continued to grip her hand, her declaration echoing in my heart.
Y/n seemed to understand my silence. She didn't push for an immediate response. She just held my gaze, her expression patient and understanding.
We stood there in the shadow of the clock tower, surrounded by the bustle of the city, yet somehow it felt like we were in our own private world.
The ring on my finger, Y/n's promise, her declaration of love... All of it combined was almost too much for me to process. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced before.
Yet, as I stared into Y/n's eyes, I realized that I didn't want to experience it with anyone else.
"You have utterly surprised me," I finally managed to find my voice, my words escaping in a softer tone than I had intended.
Y/n merely smiled in return, a slightly crooked but still warm smile gracing her features. "That was my intention," she replied, "I derive pleasure from catching you off guard."
I found myself unable to suppress the small, involuntary smile that tugged at the corner of my lips. This woman was undoubtedly capable of being my undoing, and strangely enough, I found myself oddly drawn to that fact.
Next soon... Part 2
A/n: hope you guys did enjoy reading my story ✨
Bonus: lotus ring represent 'eternal love' 💕🥹 from Frieren: beyond journey's end.
