Maddie & Tae's Cover of "A Little Past Little Rock" Will Make Lee Ann Womack Proud [Watch]
Since their original record label closed in 2017, causing the duo to lose their deal, Maddie & Tae have come back twofold. The ladies have now signed with Mercury Nashville, are working on a new album—due out in 2019 and released their coming-of-age song, "Friends Don't." As we await all the good things that are to come from this talented duo, the ladies are showing off their chops with a cover of Lee Ann Womack's "A Little Past Little Rock." In a stripped down video, Madde Marlow and Tae Dye hit the studio with their band seated behind them, as they delve into the tune about breaking away from a troubled relationship. "Now I'm a little past Little Rock / Further down the line / Too soon to know what's up ahead / Too late to change my mind / I've got to keep my heart out of this / And both hands on the wheel / I'm learning more with every mile / Just how leaving feels / It's a lonely stretch of blacktop / Out into the blue / Don't know where I'll go / Or what I'll do / I'm a little past Little Rock, / But a long way from over you," they sing in the chorus. Maddie & Tae made their debut in 2015 with their single “Girl in a Country Song.” The tune was country's answer to the bro-country movement that swept the airwaves, taking the ladies straight to the top of the Billboard country chart. Four years later, the ladies are ready to make an even bigger splash. “We are hoping to release our sophomore record,” Tae told One Country in 2018.”It’s been finished since February so it’s basically our baby’s just sitting there waiting to be out in the world. We’re trying to let ‘Friends Don’t,’ our single, have it’s moment and just figure out perfect timing for the sophomore record cause we worked so hard on it, we want the release and everything to be perfect." The young couple met in high school and started dating sophomore year. In 2015, Maddie shared their on and off beginning with Glamour magazine, calling Jonah her person. "We were together my sophomore year, and then broke up for a year and did not talk to each other," she told Glamour. "It was so hard when we broke up because we were both still into each other but had to pretend like we weren't. Then our senior year, started to talk again. He was my person. He was a completely different guy, so grown up and knew what he wanted to do . I was like, "This is the person I want to invest time in!" I could not ask for a more perfect person to do life with. 2018 is turning out to be a good year for the 22-year-old.
