This may seem very unoriginal, but black and purple.

I was literally paging through a secondhand logic textbook while doing this so

explanatory notes time!

so there are vowel names (no u though. literally. there's no U type of categorical proposition) for the types of categorical propositions:

A (not appearing in this song) is the universal affirmative: All x are y. Like, "all Scooby Snacks are edible" (purely an example)

E is the universal negative, No z is w (or S is P which uh... is (I think) a thing about the next thing I will discuss) As an example: No hedgehogs are croquet balls (check and mate Carroll!)

I indicates a Particular Affirmative or Some S is P. Some cats are domesticated, for instance.

Finally, O means particular negative--some (a/S) is not (b/P). zum Beispiel (z.B.), some abbreviations indicating examples are not in English! <-

Then... there's a whole "Figure" of a syllogism, which is neither an included diagram nor something alterable by corsetry and/or spandex.

Rather, it's all about categorizing the premises (the first two statements) based on how they use the subject and predicate of the conclusion. The predicate of the conclusion ("chickens" in the first part of the McLogic song) is considered the major term and the subject (here, animals on the McLogic farm who are named after flowers) the "minor" term. I didn't make up these names. These also lend their categories to categorizing the two premises.

But! It's the middle term, the chocolate chip eaters here, which really determines the syllogism's figure.

There are only four possible figures, and they just have (ordinal) numbers:

first figure means the middle term is the subject when paired with the Major Term and the predicate term for the premise with the minor term

second figure, appearing here, has the middle term as the predicate of both

third, conversely (but I'm not certain this is the logical use of that word), sees the middle being the subject of both premises

and finally fourth, the opposite in only this instance of the first, where the middle is the predicate for the major term and subject for the minor term.

The proposition types allow the syllogism to have a so called mood, of which there are 64 possible (three statements, each of which can be any of four categories so 4 cubed which is 64) and the 4 figures adds another multiplication by four (coincidentally the exponent goes up to four, too), so syllogisms have 256 possible forms

OF WHICH only 15 (after... a refinement of classical logic we can apparently blame on Boole? I'm not even going to try to figure that out and get into it) are valid, and they have names! Which, and this book doesn't say exactly how they were arrived at, have some sort of classical naming structure?

EIO is valid in all four figures; in first figure it's called Ferio, second Festino (appearing here! on McLogic Farm), third Ferison, and fourth Fresison. ...they are the only ones which begin with F, at least, but I have no idea about why their internal structure
