“I had seen these hologram fans around. I was absolutely fixated because it’s so cool,” Lazy Susan explained.
“However, because it’s this cheap technology, it was a very risky piece.
“These fans use a third-party app software to insert things into an SD card. I don’t have access to a phone when I’m on Drag Race.
“If anything goes wrong, the file corrupts, anything on the actual device itself… screwed.
“If you’re thinking about trying this at home, in order to create the hologram, these blades need to spin so fast right in front of your face.

THE SPECTACLE OF DESTRUCTION: THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF MELBOURNE SEASON ONE, EPISODE TWO IN LIGHT OF ROLAND BARTHES’ ‘THE WORLD OF WRESTLING’ FROM MYTHOLOGIES
It is without doubt that the Real Housewives franchise thrives upon the spectacle of destruction, with viewers swarming to the social rise and fall of different cast members as if crows to a disembowelled carcass. While this discussion will relate only to the first season, second episode of The Real Housewives of Melbourne, given the density of material that is given to viewers in the end section, I shall draw parallels between it and the theatricity that Roland Barthes discusses in ‘The World of Wrestling.’ In his essay, Barthes dissects wrestling, breaking it into its fundamental components: violence and theatre. This criticism is not given directly to Jackie, and is instead delivered to her via Lydia. Thus, a layer of ambiguity is added to the various quotations and accusations that the women assign to each other, and the battle can never truly be completed with objective answers being agreed upon.
As this is early in the season, each woman is able to establish her role in the series and her character traits through the medium of social sparring. Barthes writes. ‘the function of the wrestler is not to win; it is to go exactly through the motions which are expected of him.’(1) Here, rather than competing to win the battle, each woman is given an opportunity to display her character as it will appear for the rest of the season; the professions of both women, lawyer and psychic, are repeated to the viewer, reinforced by their approaches to this combat. Jackie attempts to appeal to Gina via her psychic virtues, which is quickly shot through by Gina calling it demonic.
Through this, a dichotomy is constructed: the ‘rational’ and ‘irrational’, the ‘lawful’ and ‘chaotic’, the ‘godly’ and ‘ungodly’ are sat across from each other, separated only by a coffee table, each social presence forced to interfere with the other. With this, viewers draw their own conclusions for who wins and who loses, and the victory status of each woman ultimately does not matter: it is instead the spectacle of their respective destructions, the oscillations of their power dynamic, that forms entertainment. In this way, ‘Defeat is not a conventional sign, abandoned as soon as it is understood; it is not an outcome, but quite the contrary, it is a duration, a display, it takes up the ancient myths of public Suffering and Humiliation.’(2) We see that the fight does not end with each of the women’s closing addresses, or ‘the final nail in the coffin,’ as each of these extends the fight, each glittering climax followed by another, and another, until the viewer is wild with anticipation, all while being fed information on who each woman is and what they represent.
The roles of each woman is not solely given to the viewer by way of speech, as the appearance of each woman is also an extrapolation of what they represent. Gina, with her glittering heels, chunky jewelry and very tall hair, is a defensive bastion, a fort from which two critical and piercing eyes look out. It is clear from her simply entering the scene that she exists to ruffle feathers. The Dean of the Faculty of Law Bryan has been the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Monash University since January 2013. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Queensland and holds a doctorate in law from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. Prior to this he was the Louis Waller Chair of Law and Associate Dean (Research) at Monash University’s Faculty of Law.
He has held academic and research leadership positions at a number of Australian universities prior to beginning his role at Monash. Before his role in academia, Bryan was a long-standing law firm and governmental consultant, advising commercial lawyers and their cooperate and governmental clients on a variety of issues from contractual good faith to unconscionable business conduct, even to corporate social responsibility, and rights-based scrutiny of legislation. His decorated career has also seen him give invitational addresses at Oxford University, Harvard University, Stanford University, and the Wharton Business School.
Having been previously appointed by the current Australian Government to an expert panel, Bryan was asked to investigate the regulation of unconscionable business conduct and problematic franchising behaviors. The Australian Government’s acceptance of the expert panel’s recommendations resulted in changes to major pieces of national economic regulation in the form of the Competition and Consumer Act, Australian Securities and Investments Commission Act, and Franchising Code of Conduct.
