THURSDAY HERO: Victor Bodson
Victor Bodson was a Luxembourger politician who created an escape route for German Jews fleeing Hitler and saved over 100 lives, at great risk to his own.
Born in 1902 in one of the smallest countries in Europe, Victor was equally comfortable on the athletic field and in the halls of power. An avid swimmer, boxer and motorcycle racer in his youth, Victor became a successful lawyer and political activist. He became a member of his small country’s Board of Deputies in 1934, and the next year was elected to a council seat in Luxembourg City.
Victor lived on the Sauer River, which forms the border between Luxembourg and Germany. As Hitler and the Nazis rose to power in the 1930’s, it became increasingly difficult for Jews to leave Germany. Desperate  Jews began crossing the treacherous Sauer River, hoping to find safety in the small kingdom. Fortunately for them, Victor Bodson was waiting on the other side to ferry them to safety. An expert driver and mechanic, Victor equipped his vehicle with a specially-designed apparatus to completely hide the passengers. When the Jewish refugees exited the river, they followed secret directions to Victor’s house, where he provided them with dry clothing and other basic needs. Then he ferried them to safe houses that he’d arranged and prepared beforehand.
Victor continued his heroic lifesaving efforts for seven years, from 1933 to 1940. He did this despite knowing that if the Nazis found out, he could be executed without trial. He took many risks during those seven years, never knowing whom he could trust when looking for people to hide Jews, never knowing if the Nazis were on his trail, and traveling through treacherous forests during bitter winter months. The exact numbers are unknown, and Victor did not talk about his brave actions, but historians estimate that he saved approximately 100 people – not to mention all those peoples’ descendants.
In May 1940, Germany invaded Luxembourg and Victor was unable to continue helping Jewish refugees. Most of the Luxembourg government fled in a motorcade, but Victor stayed behind to provide help amid the chaos. Later, using knowledge of backroads gained during his time as a motorcyclist, he escaped to France, then Portugal, and finally to Montreal, Canada where he became part of the Luxembourg government in exile. For the remainder of the war, Victor continued to help Jews and other refugees by providing them with entry visas to Canada and the United States. In 1942 the Gestapo put him on their most wanted list, but they were unable to do anything to him because he was so far away.
After the war, Victor returned to his homeland and served as a high level government commissioner, first in the justice department and later as the transportation minister. In 1971, Victor was deeply touched to be recognized as Righteous Among the Nations by Israeli Holocaust Memorial Yad Vashem. He wrote a beautiful letter of gratitude for the honor, humbly downplaying his own actions and saying that he was simply fulfilling his human duty to help others.
Victor Bodson died in 1984. He remains a source of pride to his countrymen who named the beautiful Victor Bodson Bridge after him.
For saving one hundred lives over seven years, we honor Victor Bodson as this week’s Thursday Hero.

Harry FINALLY cut ties with Britain: Exiled prince lists US as primary residence for first time - amid deportation fears over past drug use
By RICHARD EDEN
PUBLISHED: 17:00, 17 April 2024 | UPDATED: 19:37, 17 April 2024
Soon after announcing his and Meghan's decision to quit royal duties in 2020, the Duke of Sussex declared at a charity event: 'The UK is my home and a place that I love. That will never change.'
Four years later, much, it seems, has changed.
The Daily Mail can disclose that Prince Harry has updated his records in this country to make clear that he no longer lives in Britain.
Filings published by Companies House today for 'Prince Henry Charles Albert David Duke of Sussex' record that his 'New Country/State Usually Resident' is now the USA. It was previously recorded as the United Kingdom.
The change comes as pressure increases on US President Joe Biden's government to release Harry's visa records after campaigners seized on comments made by the American ambassador to London that he would not be deported while the Democrat was president.
Prince Harry, pictured with Meghan Markle at a polo event in Florida on April 12, has listed the US as his primary residence for the first time.
The Sussexes' mansion is worth $14 million (£11m) and has six bedrooms and seven bathrooms
Tumblr media
The publicly-viewable document that shows Prince Harry is now based in the United States
The conservative Heritage Foundation think tank in Washington DC, which has gone to court to seek the release of the file, has submitted the remarks made by Jane Hartley as part of its case.
The new details, filed at Companies House for Harry's eco travel venture Travalyst, also raise serious questions about whether he can remain as a Counsellor of State, one of seven members of the Royal Family who can deputise for the Monarch if he is abroad or unwell.
By law, Counsellors of State are required to have a UK domicile, but Harry has no home here after King Charles asked the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to vacate Frogmore Cottage, a gift from the late Queen Elizabeth.
Dr Craig Prescott, an expert on constitutional law, said last year: 'We are really in uncharted waters here: the Prince Harry situation is not something the law easily allows for.
'The idea of the second son of the King choosing a life away from royal duties is not something the law has thought about, and I can imagine that Buckingham Palace would be concerned by that.
The King had the chance to remove him with the counsellor-of-state legislation last year, but chose not to.'
Until 2022, the Counsellors of State were Queen Camilla, Prince William, Harry, Prince Andrew and his elder daughter Princess Beatrice.
However, many considered this situation unsuitable as Harry, the Duke of York and Beatrice are not working royals.
Later that year, the King asked parliament to add his sister, Princess Anne, and youngest brother, Prince Edward, to the list.
It was reported that the King decided not to remove Harry and Andrew because he did not want to escalate family tensions and believed it was unlikely either would ever be required to deputise for him.
However, last year courtiers were keen to ensure that William returned to Britain from a solo trip to New York before the King and Queen departed for their state visit to France on the same day.
The situation has since become even more urgent because of the King's cancer treatment.
Harry challenged the decision by the Home Office to remove his right to automatic Metropolitan Police protection when he is in Britain, even though he has offered to pay for it himself.
After the decision was made, a legal representative for Harry has said he was 'unable to return to his home' with his family because it is too dangerous.
He has since lost the court case and potentially faces a bill of around £1million when his own legal costs are taken into account.
A judge rejected a bid to halve the amount he had to pay by saying the Duke of Sussex had 'comprehensively lost' his case.
Separately Sir Peter Lane also threw out the duke's application to appeal against the ruling, describing one section of it as 'frankly hopeless'.
The Heritage Foundation has been pushing the Department of Homeland Security to open its dossier on Harry under America's freedom of information laws.
After he admitted taking cocaine in his memoirs, Spare, he faced questions over how he had been able to move to the USA, where admitting drug use can block a visa application.

Note
I'm not saying this to be condescending, or to contradict anything you've previously said about migrant workers or the conditions they work in. I was just reading a different ask about employers exploiting migrant workers that you responded to, and I wanted to add: in my knowledge as an American, migrant workers are very often corralled into "jobs" that are equivalent to getting trafficked. One example that comes to mind is 2 years ago in California, there was a drug bust on an illegal cannabis farm, and the people who raided it discovered that it was being tended to by a few families of Chinese immigrants who were on contracts they didn't understand, doing work they didn't realize they would be doing, and getting paid way less than they were promised. They were lured away from their families in New York to do this work, and then the people employing them left them to take the brunt of the blame for working an illegal operation. (Afaik, the people under contract work where given misdemeanors instead of felony charges, but that can still hurt their visa status)
This seems to be the norm, not the outlier, for migrant workers in the States and in Canada. Not to mention that there is a huge correlation between career fields with high immigrant concentrations and career fields that expose people to dangerous chemicals like endocrine inhibitors in both of these countries. I don't want to be all doomer on you and say that it's equally bad for to be a migrant worker in Every country, obviously that's not true. and obviously you are qualified to make judgements on the severity of abuse happening to immigrants in the middle east in a way that i am not.
But I do think in every country you look at, regardless of its status or wealth or level of democracy, migrant workers are exploited more often than any other demographic in their country. I don't think there is any country on earth that genuinely takes care of its immigrant population and is invested in preventing their exploitation. So you will find gross abuse of migrant workers in every country you examine, even though it may happen on a much larger scale in countries under dictatorships than the scale it happens on in democratic countries like France or the usa.
you will find gross abuse of migrant workers in every country you examine, even though it may happen on a much larger scale in countries under dictatorships than the scale it happens on in democratic countries like France or the usa.
im by no means an expert on the subject but i think ur right. the main difference is that unfortunately in a lot of MENA, most really, the abuses of migrant workers’ rights exists at a systemic level and is often upheld by our governments. i was just baffled that in france they were also doing this for sth that gets a lot of press like the olympics, you’d think in a democratic western country (& one with some of the best workers rights iirc) that ppl wouldn’t be making their workers have 11 hour shifts, underpaid, in bad conditions, etc but nope..

Indian Passport Holders: Exciting News! Free Visa Entry to Indonesia for Tourists from 20 Countries, Including India
Tumblr media
Great news for Indian passport holders! Indonesia has announced a free visa entry policy for tourists from 20 countries, including India. This initiative is expected to be finalized by October 2024 and will make traveling to Indonesia much easier for Indian tourists. Here’s everything you need to know about this exciting development.
Indonesia Announces Free Visa Entry
Indonesia is gearing up to welcome tourists from India with visa-free entry, eliminating the hassle of visa applications. This initiative, led by Indonesia’s Tourism Minister, Sandiaga Uno, aims to attract high-spending tourists from key countries, which will give a boost to Indonesia’s economy.
By removing visa requirements for Indian tourists, Indonesia hopes to increase foreign tourist arrivals, stimulate domestic spending, and boost foreign investment. The policy will also encourage the growth of Indonesia’s digital economy.
Why This Matters for Indian Tourists
Indonesia has long been a favorite destination for Indian travelers, with its beautiful beaches, rich culture, and vibrant cities like Bali and Jakarta. With the new visa-free entry policy, it will be even easier to visit these popular spots without worrying about visa delays or extra costs.
Before the pandemic, tourists spent an average of $900 during their stay in Indonesia. However, post-pandemic trends show visitors now spend around $1,600 per trip. This new policy aims to attract more “quality tourists” — travelers who stay longer and contribute more to the local economy.
List of Countries Eligible for Free Visa Entry
India is one of the 20 countries that will benefit from Indonesia’s visa-free policy. Other countries include:
Australia
China (PRC)
South Korea
USA
UK
France
Germany
Qatar
UAE
Saudi Arabia
Netherlands
Japan
Russia
Taiwan
New Zealand
Italy
Spain
And two additional Middle Eastern countries to be specified.
Tourist Visa Options for Other Travelers
If you still require a visa to visit Indonesia (for countries not included in the visa-free list), there are a few options available based on your stay duration and the activities planned:
Type B1–30 Days
Stay: Up to 30 days (extendable for an additional 30 days).
Cost: Rp 500,000 (Rs 2,557).
Activities: Tourism, family visits, meetings, conventions, exhibitions.
Requirements: Valid passport (6+ months), return ticket.
Type D1 (1 Year)
Stay: Up to 60 days per entry.
Cost: IDR 3,000,000 (Rs 15,344).
Activities: Meetings, conventions, tourism, family visits.
Requirements: Valid passport, proof of funds, photo.
Type D1 (2 Years)
Stay: Up to 60 days per entry.
Cost: IDR 6,000,000 (Rs 30,689).
Activities: Same as Type D1 (1 Year).
Requirements: Similar to Type D1 (1 Year).
Type D1 (5 Years)
Stay: Up to 60 days per entry.
Cost: IDR 15,000,000 (Rs 76,723).
Activities: Same as Type D1 (1 Year).
Requirements: Similar to Type D1 (1 Year).
Ready to Visit Indonesia?
This new visa-free policy makes it easier than ever for Indian passport holders to explore Indonesia. With beautiful beaches, rich culture, and a growing tourist-friendly environment, now is the perfect time to plan your trip!

France Dependent Visa: Reunite with Your Loved Ones and Fly to France!
Tumblr media
If you’re planning to reunite with family members living in France, the France Dependent Visa offers a smooth and structured process to make this possible. This visa is designed specifically for the spouses, children, or other dependent family members of individuals legally residing in France, allowing them to join their loved ones.
Who Can Apply for a France Dependent Visa?
The France Dependent Visa is available to family members of non-European Union nationals who hold valid long-term visas or residence permits in France. Eligible dependents include:
Spouses of primary visa holders
Unmarried children under the age of 18
Other family members deemed as dependents in certain cases (such as elderly parents)
For each family member, a separate dependent visa application must be submitted. The visa process can vary depending on the applicant’s nationality and the status of the primary visa holder.
Why You Should Consider a France Dependent Visa
Obtaining a France Dependent Visa offers a unique opportunity to reunite with your family and experience life in one of the most culturally rich countries in the world. Whether you're the spouse, child, or another close relative, this visa allows you to live, study, and explore career opportunities while staying with your loved ones. You also benefit from access to France's healthcare system, education, and other public services.
The Application Process
While the France Dependent Visa application process may seem complicated, it’s much more straightforward with the right guidance. Applicants need to submit the following:
Valid passport and visa copies of the primary visa holder
Proof of relationship (marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc.)
Financial documents showing the primary visa holder's ability to support dependents
Proof of accommodation in France
Each application will be reviewed by French authorities, and once approved, the dependent will be granted a visa allowing them to fly to France and join their family.
Why You Need Immigration Consultants
A key point to remember is that any changes in the primary visa holder's status—such as job changes or visa renewals—can directly impact the validity of your France Dependent Visa. This is where expert assistance from an immigration consultant becomes crucial. They will guide you through the complexities of the visa process, ensuring that all documentation is in order and keeping the French Embassy or Consulate informed of any status updates.
Fly to France and Start a New Chapter
With your France Dependent Visa in hand, the final step is to book your tickets and fly to France. This is not just a visa—it’s the gateway to beginning a new chapter of your life with your family in one of the world’s most vibrant countries.
So, if you’re eager to join your loved ones in France, don’t wait! Start your visa application today and fly to France soon.
Conclusion
The France Dependent Visa is your key to reuniting with your family and starting a new life in France. With proper guidance, the process can be smooth and efficient, allowing you to focus on what truly matters—being together with your loved ones. From the application phase to ensuring the primary visa holder’s status is maintained, having an experienced immigration consultant can make all the difference. Don’t let paperwork and procedures stand in your way. Begin your journey today, secure your France Dependent Visa, and fly to France to embrace a new chapter filled with opportunities, culture, and family togetherness.

How to Choose Right Study Abroad Program
Tumblr media
Studying abroad is an exciting opportunity that offers more than just academic growth; it fosters personal development, cultural immersion, and global networking. However, choosing the right study abroad program can be overwhelming, given the vast array of options. This guide will walk you through the critical factors to consider when selecting a study abroad program that aligns with your goals, needs, and interests.
1. Identify Your Academic and Career Goals
The first step in choosing a study abroad program is identifying your academic and career aspirations. Ask yourself what you aim to achieve from studying abroad. Are you looking to:
Gain specialized knowledge in a particular field?
Develop skills that enhance your career prospects?
Broaden your perspective in a global context?
For instance, if you're a business student seeking international exposure, you might want to consider MBA programs in countries with strong economies like the U.S., U.K., or Singapore. On the other hand, students interested in environmental studies may benefit from programs in countries like Norway or Australia, known for their commitment to sustainability.
 Tips:
Look for programs with a curriculum tailored to your academic goals.
Seek faculty who are experts in your area of study.
Consider the opportunities for internships, practical training, and networking in your chosen field.
2. Choose the Right Destination
The location of your study abroad program is more than just a backdrop to your education; it can significantly influence your overall experience. Factors such as culture, language, lifestyle, and career opportunities should play a role in your decision.
Cultural Immersion
If cultural exploration is a priority, choose a country that aligns with your interests. Europe offers a rich tapestry of cultures within close proximity, while Asia presents a unique fusion of ancient traditions and modern innovations. Latin American countries provide vibrant cultural experiences, often in more budget-friendly environments.
Language
If learning or improving a foreign language is one of your goals, immerse yourself in a country where that language is spoken. For example, Spanish learners may consider programs in Spain or Latin America, while French speakers could look at France or French-speaking regions of Canada.
Career Opportunities
Certain countries are known for offering strong post-graduation career prospects in specific fields. For example, Germany is a hub for engineering and automotive industries, while the U.S. and U.K. offer expansive opportunities in finance, technology, and healthcare. Study in Australia for International Students and Study in Canada for International students also have favorable policies for international students seeking post-graduation work visas.
Tips:
Research the local culture, cost of living, and safety.
Consider the language of instruction and whether language barriers might affect your experience.
Look into the country’s visa policies and work opportunities during and after studies.
3. Evaluate the Academic Structure
Different countries have varying academic structures and teaching styles. Some education systems may focus heavily on theoretical knowledge, while others emphasize practical skills and independent learning. Understanding how a country’s educational philosophy aligns with your learning style can make a big difference.
Flexibility vs. Structure
In some countries, such as the U.S., students have the flexibility to choose their courses and explore various subjects before specializing. In contrast, programs in countries like Germany or the U.K. might have a more structured approach, where students are expected to focus on their specific field from the outset.
Academic Resources and Facilities
Make sure to research the academic resources available at your prospective institution. Libraries, research facilities, labs, and digital resources can play a crucial role in enriching your academic journey.
 Tips:
Consider your preferred learning style (e.g., lecture-based vs. hands-on).
Research whether the program’s structure supports your academic goals.
Check if the university offers strong academic advising and student support services.
4. Consider Program Duration and Timing
Study abroad programs vary in length, from a few weeks during the summer to a full academic year or more. The ideal program duration will depend on your personal circumstances, such as your academic schedule, career plans, and financial considerations.
Short-Term vs. Long-Term Programs
Short-Term Programs: These are typically summer programs or semester-long exchanges. They are perfect for students looking for a quick international experience without committing to long-term stays. However, short programs may offer limited academic depth and cultural immersion.
Long-Term Programs: A full academic year or multi-year programs offer more substantial opportunities for academic growth, language acquisition, and cultural integration. Long-term stays also allow you to build a more comprehensive professional network.
 Tips:
Consider your academic calendar and how a study abroad program fits within it.
Decide whether you prefer a short, intensive experience or a longer, more immersive one.
Check if credits earned abroad will transfer to your home institution.

5. Financial Considerations
Studying abroad can be costly, but with proper planning, you can manage your budget and find a program that fits your financial situation. Start by calculating the overall cost of the program, including tuition fees, living expenses, travel, and additional costs like insurance and visa fees.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
Many study abroad programs offer scholarships, grants, or financial aid for international students. Research all available options, including merit-based scholarships, need-based grants, and country-specific funding programs.
Cost of Living
The cost of living varies significantly from country to country. For example, studying in cities like New York or London will likely be more expensive than studying in smaller towns or countries with a lower cost of living, such as Poland or Thailand.
 Tips:
Look for programs that offer scholarships or financial aid.
Calculate the total cost of living and compare it to your home country.
Consider part-time work opportunities and post-graduation employment options.
6. Accreditation and Reputation
The reputation and accreditation of the institution you choose will have a long-term impact on your career. It’s essential to verify that your chosen university is accredited and recognized globally.
University Rankings
While rankings shouldn’t be the sole factor in your decision, they can provide insight into a university’s reputation, academic quality, and resources. Some well-known ranking systems include QS World University Rankings, Times Higher Education, and U.S. News & World Report.
Program-Specific Accreditation
If you’re pursuing a specialized field, ensure that the program is accredited by relevant professional bodies. For example, MBA programs should be accredited by organizations like AACSB, AMBA, or EQUIS.
 Tips:
Verify the accreditation status of the university.
Research the institution’s global reputation and ranking in your field.
Look for alumni success stories to gauge the long-term value of the program.
7. Seek Student Support and Extracurricular Opportunities
Adjusting to life in a new country can be challenging, so it’s important to choose a program that offers robust student support services. This includes orientation programs, academic advising, and counseling services. Additionally, extracurricular activities such as clubs, sports, and cultural trips can enrich your experience and help you build lifelong friendships.
Tips:
Look for programs with strong international student support.
Consider the availability of social and cultural activities.
Explore opportunities to engage with local communities and other international students.
Conclusion
Choosing the right study abroad program requires thoughtful consideration of your academic goals, personal preferences, financial situation, and long-term career aspirations. By researching and evaluating each aspect of the program—from location and academic structure to financial aid and student support—you can find the perfect fit that will lead to a fulfilling and transformative international experience.
A well-chosen study abroad program can be the gateway to a brighter future, equipping you with the skills, knowledge, and global perspective needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. Take your time, do your research, and make a choice that will serve your personal and professional goals for years to come.
