Wrestlers meet Amit Shah; To stay united, wrestlers to hold own mahapanchayat soon, Bajrang Punia
The wrestlers put forward their demands before Amit Shah who assured them that the probe will be impartial, a source told TNIE.
NEW DELHI: India’s top wrestlers, who are protesting against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the sidelined chief of the Wrestling Federation of India, met Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday night.
It is learnt that Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik along with two-time World Championships medallist Vinesh Phogat had a meeting with Home Minister Shah at his residence in New Delhi. The meeting lasted for more than an hour, sources told TNIE.
“The meeting started at around 11 PM. It continued till midnight. The wrestlers put forward their demands before Shah who assured them that the probe will be impartial,” a source in the know things told TNIE. Notably, the wrestlers met Shah in the past as well.
A day before their march towards the new Parliament on May 28, Sakshi, along with her husband Satyawart Kadian and a few Khap leaders, had met Amit Shah. However, the meeting could not fetch desired results as wrestlers tried to breach the security cordon put in place at Jantar Mantar the next day. The Delhi police later detained all the protesting wrestlers and even registered FIRs against them. The protest site was also cleared barring the grapplers to return to the place to continue the protest. “Wrestlers once again demanded immediate arrest of Brij Bhushan but the Home Minister told them that arrest could only be made by police after completion of the investigation,” added the source.
Wrestlers’ mahapanchayat
Meanwhile, a mahapanchayat was held in Mundlana, Sonepat (Haryana) on Sunday to express solidarity with protesting wrestlers. Bajrang attended the meeting. Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Jayant Chaudhary, Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad, Bharat Rashtra Kisan Samithi’s Gurnam Singh Chaduni and others also attended mahapanchayat.
Speaking on the occasion, Bajrang urged the Khap leaders and farmer organisations not to hold multiple mahapanchayats. “Bajrang said these panchayats are sending wrong messages and developing a perception that the wrestlers have been pushed to the background. He instead announced that the wrestlers will soon hold a mahapanchayat to discuss the future course of action,” said a source who attended the mahapanchayat.
Referring to their earlier plans to immerse their medals in the Ganga river, Punia said: “These have left our wrestler sisters and daughters broken. We will hold one mahapanchayat and will give a call for that. We will decide on the venue. We want to bring everyone together for that panchayat, we don’t want us to be divided.”
He said their battle was not for any particular caste but for honour and respect. “If we remain divided, we cannot win.”

Governor says remark 'telling' terrorists to kill corrupt made in anger, calls Omar 'political juvenile'
SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Monday expressed regret over his remark that militants should stop killing innocent people and target the corrupt, saying it was made in a "fit of anger and frustration". Malik said he should not have made the comment as constitutional head of the state but it did reflect his feelings and he will say the same thing when he is not governor. "It was in a fit of anger and frustration due to rampant corruption here. Wherever I dig, I find their corruption. I should not have made such comments as I am the constitutional head but what I said is my feeling on the issue. Once I am not the governor, I will still say the same thing. I am ready to face the consequences for it," Malik said. On Sunday, Malik stoked controversy during his address at a function in Kargil in Ladakh region. "These boys who have picked up guns are killing their own people, they are killing PSOs (personal security officer) and SPOs (special police officers). Why are you killing them? Kill those who have looted the wealth of Kashmir. Have you killed any of them?" Malik had asked. National Conference leader Omar Abdullah was quick to respond. "Save this tweet - after today any mainstream politician or serving/retired bureaucrat killed in J&K has been murdered on the express orders of the Governor of J&K Satyapal Malik," Abdullah said on the microblogging site. https://twitter.com/OmarAbdullah/status/1153000527514357760 The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said the governor should check out his own reputation in Delhi before sanctioning unlawful killings. "This man, ostensibly a responsible man occupying a constitutional position, tells militants to kill politicians perceived to be corrupt. "Perhaps the man should find out about his own reputation in Delhi these days before sanctioning unlawful killings & kangaroo courts," Reacting to Abdullah's criticism, Malik said the former chief minister is behaving like a political juvenile who tweets on everything. "Ask the people about my reputation and his reputation as well. I am here because of my reputation in Delhi and you are, where you are right now, because of your reputation," he said. Malik said he neither had the name of his father or grandfather to fall back upon nor the wealth. "I have come here from a one-and-half room house and I guarantee you that I will leave after exposing their corruption," he added. (AGENCIES) Read the full article

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Nov 22 (ANI): A day after dissolving the Jammu and Kashmir State Assembly, Governor Satyapal Malik said that he did not want the formation of a government by the 'unholy alliance'. "These are the forces that are against democracy at the grass root level. Once they felt that situation was slipping out of their hands they formed an unholy alliance to form the Government," Malik told ANI. Refuting allegations of favouring the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre, Malik said, "I am not on the side of any party. I am with the people in the Valley and want good for them." On Wednesday, arch rivals PDP, NC along with Congress confirmed that they stitched up an alliance to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir, which had been under Governor's Rule since June when the BJP ended its ruling alliance with the PDP. Hours later, the Governor dissolved the Assembly. PDP president and former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, said that she tried to fax the letter to the Governor, claiming to form the government, but couldn't. BJP-backed People's Conference Chief Sajjad Lone also staked claim to form the government but he also failed to get through the Governor's fax. In response to Mufti, Governor Malik said that his decision to dissolve the Assembly was in the interest of the State. "I have been receiving complaints for past 15 days of horse-trading and that Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) are being threatened. Mehbooba Ji herself complained that her MLAs are being threatened. The other party said there is planning of distribution of money. I could not have allowed this to happen," he said. "I have been saying it since day one of my appointment as Governor that I am not in favour of any govt formed in the state with underhand defection and horse trading. I would instead want that elections are held and selected government rules the state," the Governor added. (ANI)

Intially Rajiv Gandhi was not corrupt but later got involved in Bofors: J&K Guv Satyapal
SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik Thursday said former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi was initially not corrupt but under the influence of some people, he got involved in the Bofors corruption case. He was reacting to rebel BJP leader Ajay Agarawal releasing a 76-second audio clip in which Malik told the Supreme court lawyer that Gandhi was not corrupt. “Rajiv basically bhrast nahi tha aur yeh mujhe Arun Nehru ne bhi kaha ki AICC se jo kharcha milta tha un dinon, jab yeh ghumtey phirte thay, toh yeh ghair-zaruri kharcha bhi nahi leta tha. Arun Nehru ka yeh kehna tha (Rajiv was not corrupt. In those days when they received money from AICC for their travel, he never took anything unnecessary. This was told to me by Arun Nehru),” he is heard saying in the clip. The governor Thursday said, “Initially, he (Rajiv Gandhi) was not corrupt but later under the influence of some people, who I will not name, he got involved in the Bofors corruption case.” Malik said he and PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed quit the Rajya Sabha in the wake of the Bofors corruption case and formed the Jan Morcha. “All this means that we accepted that Rajiv Gandhi was involved in the Bofors scandal. Initially, he was good but then he came under influence of people and ultimately he was responsible for Bofors (scam),” he told reporters after inaugurating traffic grade separators here. Asked if it was right to bring in Rajiv Gandhi’s name in the election campaign, Malik defended the BJP, saying if Mahatma Gandhi and former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru can be mentioned in the elections, Rajiv Gandhi can also be mentioned. “When Rajiv’s son calls you chor (thief), won’t you tell him who he is and what is his legacy,” he added. Omar to Ram Madhav: Either prove allegation or apologies (Watch Video)
Slamming the attempt by Mehbooba Mufti-lef PDP and the National Conference to form a government in Jammu and Kashmir, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday alleged that the two parties are working on "instructions from across the border". "PDP and NC boycotted local body polls last month because they had instructions from across the border. Probably they had fresh instructions from across the border to come together and form government. What they did prompted Governor to look into the whole issue," said BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav. Hitting out at PDP president and former Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti, who alleged that the Governor didn't receive her calls and fax staking claim to power, Madhav termed it a "lame excuse" and said that Mufti, in her letter to Malik, did not claim that she will form a government. "Only Governor can answer why Governor home's fax is not working. Only he should answer. But this is lame excuse on the part of Madam Mehbooba. In letter, she never claimed that she will form the government, she said I'll come and see you and stake the claim. It was all a drama," he said. Hitting back at Ram Madhav, Omar Abdullah challenged the former to either prove the charges levelled by him or apologise. "I dare you @rammadhavbjp ji to prove your allegation. You have RAW, NIA & IB at your command (CBI too is your parrot) so have the guts to place evidence in the public domain. Either prove this or be man enough to apologise. Don't practice shoot & scoot politics (sic)," he tweeted. Watch Video : https://youtu.be/egZ9zp42hbM "No, misplaced attempts at humour won't work. You HAVE claimed my party has been acting at the behest of Pakistan. I dare you to prove it! Place the evidence of your allegation of NC boycott of ULB polls at Pak behest in public domain. It's an open challenge to you & your Govt," Abdullah added. Governor Satyapal Malik on Wednesday evening abruptly dissolved the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly hours after the PDP staked claim to form a government with the backing of rival National Conference and the Congress, followed by another bid from the two-member People's Conference which claimed the support of the BJP and 18 legislators from other parties. In another late-night communique, the Governor cited four main reasons for dissolving the Assembly with immediate effect, including "extensive horse-trading and possible exchange of money" and the "impossibility" of forming a stable government by parties with "opposing political ideologies". Malik also raised "serious doubts" about the longevity of any such arrangement where there are competing claims of majority and highlighted "fragile security scenario" and the need for "a supportive environment" for security forces. In a series of tweets, Mehbooba said since the past five months, regardless of political affiliations, "we shared the view that the state assembly be dissolved immediately to avert horse trading and defections. "Oddly enough our pleas fell on deaf ears. But who would have thought that the very idea of a grand coalition would give such jitters". She also said in a lighter vein that "In today's age of technology, it is very strange that the fax machine at the Governor's residence didn't receive our fax but swiftly issued one regarding the assembly dissolution." Governor Malik's decision invited severe criticism from the opposition parties who termed it as "unconstitutional" and done on BJP's directions. On the other hand, the BJP welcomed the move and said that fresh elections are the best option in Jammu and Kashmir is to have fresh assembly polls at the earliest. The saffron party slammed the proposed alliance of opposition parties as a "combination of terror-friendly parties". The dissolution of the assembly, which was in suspended animation since June 19, marked the culmination of a day-long high-voltage political drama in which Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti wrote to governor that her party, which has 29 MLAs, backed by the National Conference and the Congress with 15 and 12 legislators respectively intended to stake claim for formation of the government. The collective strength of the three parties was 56, well above the required number of 44 for a majority in the 87-member assembly, Mehbooba, a former chief minister, said. Things moved swiftly thereafter with Sajad Lone, leader of the People's Conference, which has one MLA besides him, also sending a WhatsApp communication to Malik from midair staking his claim for government formation with the support of the 25-member BJP and "more than 18 other elected members" whose names he did not provide. The Governor, who had declared days ago that the assembly would not be dissolved, then lost no time in going for dissolution invoking the relevant sections of the state constitution. The dissolution paves the way for a fresh elections in the state amid speculation that it could be held with the Lok Sabha polls due early next year. The six-month tenure of the governor's rule ends on December 18 which will be followed by President's rule. The state assembly's tenure was till October 2020. Governor's rule was clamped in the state on June 19 for a 6-month period following the collapse of the PDP-BJP coalition government headed by Mehbooba Mufti after the saffron party withdrew support. Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Nov 21 (ANI): Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Mehbooba Mufti in a direct attack on Governor Satyapal Malik called him out for favouring the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by dissolving the assembly shortly after she wrote a letter to him staking claim to form the government in alliance with the National Conference (NC) and the Congress Party. An agitated Mufti shared her ordeal trying to reach out to the Governor to form the government in the Valley with the virtue of being the largest party in the state with 29 seats in its kitty, along with the support of the NC and Congress. However, she said that she failed to get through the Governor via fax. Unable to reach Malik, Mufti said she was compelled to share a copy of the letter on Twitter. Immediately after Mufti's Twitter outburst, the Governor faxed his decision to dissolve the Assembly, raising eyebrows. Mufti tweeted, "In today's age of technology, it is very strange that the fax machine at HE Governor's residence didn't receive our fax but swiftly issued one regarding the assembly dissolution." "Oddly enough our pleas fell on deaf ears. But who would have thought that the very idea of a grand coalition would give such jitters," read another tweet. Meanwhile, People's Conference President Sajjad Lone has also staked claim to form the government. He also failed to reach the Governor via fax and shared a screenshot of the letter he sent to the Governor's personal assistant over WhatsApp. Earlier today, the PDP, NC, and Congress confirmed their alliance in a bid to preserve the state's special status (Article 370). Political drama began in the Valley after the BJP pulled out of its alliance with the PDP citing examples of growing acts of "terrorism, violence, and radicalisation" in the state over the past few years.
