FORGETTABLE AU SONG????? MASSIVE W??????

I really really like this song, just recently heard it from this new album When Death Was Mine, I highly recommend this song + the entire album + the artists whole work!! its all really good :3

But this song, I feel, works REALLY well for Sans’ POV of what we all know is gonna happen with Wingdings…

FIRST BIT!

How could this happen to us? The push and tug of your trust: are my favorite lines when attaching it to this AU. The perspective being Sans before the incident. We don’t know if Sans had been there during it, or if they’d had some sort of fight before it, or even something else; But I imagine GENERALLY something horrible and dramatic happened before. For the purposes of this im going with them having a big confrontation days before shit goes down. And this line would take place after that confrontation.

The curtains closed, the doors been shut: Wingdings being SILLY! and shutting everything and everyone out to do Gaster shenanigans!!! YAY!

Kicking up dust. Im playing the FOOL again: that dust ofc not being any USUAL dust, no no *finger wag* theres a really cool visual in my head of it being like a transition of Sans going outside to walk it off, going into Snowdin and kicking the snow, before that turning into dust being blown off from HOLES BEIN PUT INTO HANDS!!! for whatever reason why does he do that/why does that happen 😭 i’m excited to find out. Oh yeah and the fool part refers to how currently Sans feels foolish for trusting Wingdings that everything was totally A-Okay/he could handle it himself and Sans didn’t need to push.

SECOND BIT!

Am I gullible enough to take a walk in your shoes? The way you strut with a bluff, the way you act so aloof: More saltiness on Sans’ half. I love Wingdings’ style of lying, he just doesn’t say enough to actually lie 😭😭 I hate him sm.

You’d dance on air for a bet: ok yes I can totally see this as WD just being a risk taker n shit. BUT ALSO PAPYRUS CAN WALK ON AIR SO ITS FUNNYHSDHSDHDSH seriously why does this song work so well

I’m used to balancing acts up to my neck: I really like this with Sans’ character not even just within this AU. He’s doing a LOT a lot of the time, while also making himself look lazy which is just another balancing act in itself. BUT for this AU specifically id imagine its more about Wingdings specifically than just his life in general-

The truth is that as the older you get, they’re more indifferent to you. The less they’ll act all impressed: This one would be more from Wingdings’ perspective cause yeah Sans is currently pretty frustrated I DON’T THINK HE’D BE THIS RUDE- I think this works better with the context of this being WDs own doubts, he was trying to figure out how to FREE THE UNDERGROUND- now he’s tryna free the godamn universe like MAN 😭 he’s gotta stop putting so much pressure on himself. Though I really REALLY like the idea of him not really caring about making relationships, but still needing to be loved by the wider public in a way. Like relationships? booo. Reputation? YAAAASSS

They’ll find all sorts of new ways to get inside your head: same premise as the last lines but I wanna highlight it cause it also works really well with Wingdings again, spiraling down the madness pit. He’s finding all sorts of new ways to get inside his OWN HEAD overthinking, smh…

Might die before ive said my peace: Wingdings might (will) die before Sans can say his peace to him….

Between you and me, if it’s alright, i’m not staying: Sans, in fact, does not stay at the lab! Those days are over, now it’s time to talk to mysterious door ladies and do nothing at sentry stands and purposefully annoy your brother.

The song as a whole gets a tad more aggressive and energetic than I feel Sans would be like, but the visuals of this happening inside of his head while he’s just kinda going 😶 irl is really fun :3

LOVE this au, how did you get the idea to make it?

First of, thank you so much, I'm really happy you're liking it ! I've been following your blog for a while now because for the Forgettable AU fanarts, so it means a lot !

And for the question, the very first glimpses of the idea appeared less than a year ago (March or Avril I think), after a really bad friendship breakup, and when I began to make a LOT of Kingdings (Asgore x Gaster) sketches 💀

I liked this ship, still do honestly xD

I started to imagine what will later become Aster's design here, and then began to think about his backstory, personality and all. The idea of Gaster coming back after a Pacifist route appeared at some point in all that, while I was making cozy and chill sketches of Gaster and Asgore gardening together on the Surface

I was talking about it to my friends every day (I still do x)), and the idea became more and more complexe.

(The first script I wrote was very VERY different from what you'll get, believe me, I improved it a lot x))

So at some point, I decided that I wanted to make something out of all that yapping, my very first fanwork after 8 years in the Undertale obsession.

I don't really know why I never made anything before, not even a fanfic, but there's a beginning to everything ig ✨

(Just in case, I said here that the AU began with Kingdings sketches, but the story absolutely won't be about this ship, I don't know if I will even mention it tbh, though technically if you want to ship Asgore and Aster in GASTER'S RETURN I won't stop you x))

I saw you were talking about songs and how they relate to the characters in forgettable. And that inspired me I was thinking about songs for my own characters.

then I thought about how one song that fits w/ one of my characters fits with wingding/gaster.

Sharks, I present to you.

This is home, by Cavetown. (Long ask)

The lyrics about "being upset" fits with wingding just wanting to be alone and stop being nagged by sans to go outside.

Again, like you were talking about love not being platonic 😭, "I cannot fall in love" could be interpreted however you want.

Windings "avoiding the stress" of leaving the lab.

"are you tired of me yet?" Could be wingdings thinking about how sans has to walk around eggshells around him almost every day (trying to get him to do other things besides work). He could realize this and choose to ignore it? Or be completely unaware of the stress he causes his brother? Idk you decide.

"I'm a little sick right now" could be gaster trying to persuade himself that he's not really gone and that he's still wingdings/papyrus.

"when I'm ready I will fly us out of here" is wingdings/gaster still trying to help monsters escape the underground (delta rune/ "the angel"/etc).

There's more but I feel like I've yapped enough 😅

Papyrus thoughts

while it's well known that Sans keeps secrets and doesn't tell you much about himself, it's less talked about how little Papyrus tells you.

The fact that he talks much creates the illusion of depth but all he tells you is basic interests and his interest in the guard. He doesn't really tell you much. Especially in comparison to other characters like Alphys; who tells you her darkest insecurities and regrets. Or undyne who tells you in depth about her motivations and goals. Flowey too tells you lots about his backstory and stuff.

The tells happy lovable skeleton doesn't. I just think it's interesting.

I cant get away with making this a reality for a WHILE, but I got a very heart breaking earth shattering (across time and space) Forgettable AU visual idea that i’ve just gotta share…

As Wingdings falls into his creation, his life flashes before his eyes, and because all of his life Sans has been there… thats all he sees.

More specifically speaking: In the song, This Is Home by Cavetown, as the music swells with “Get a load of this monster…”, as his life flashes before his eyes, crayon drawings of what theyve been told stars, the sun, and the moon look like, turn to realistic uncountable stars in the real sky, then BLACK as Wingdings goes from the underground, the surface, then PAST that to “Heaven”

More Sans is the moon, Wingdings is the sun imagery ((“THE MOON WILL SING” BY THE CRANE WIVES FLASHBACKS))

More Forgettable AU song connections and explanations!!!! Its been on my mind for a bit… Community Gardens by The Scary Jokes is SO MUCH FUN to use with Gaster…

We havnt seen him in the comics yet… So we dont really know what his vibe Is gonna be…But, I think this song is really good for my favorite interpretation… Same with Rambling Of A Lunatic which I elaborated on a bit here.

That vibe being, him not having a care in the world, being ambiguously lucid, and in general being like Jevil- SOMEONE WHOS LOST THEIR MIND but is still weirdly chill and happy about everything?? Also not making much sense a lot of the time. NOT in a Spamton way, since he’s clearly still pretty distressed-

For the first line- ITS ACTUALLY KINDA FUNNY IN THIS CONTEXT

“Full disclosure, i AM a Monster.” as in… he is still somewhat a normal person, hes not “something else”. I imagine in an AMV (that I like 99% sure I will not make) Gasters talking to Flowey and/or Papyrus and bein like “dont worry :D”.

OR WE COULD TAKE THIS IN A WAY DIFFERENT DIRECTION- and instead he’s just saying that he IS A MONSTER. “full disclosure, i am a MONSTER. Not the species though! Ive done abhorrent actions!” and he’s being crazy chill about it acting like thats a normal thing to say- “oh btw, I suck-ass”

That narrative also works extra well with the next line, “A creature of despair- Not that that should be a cause for concern!” Like AGAINNN- augh. This is just how I imagine Gaster in general, not just in the AU. Hes an insane scientist, who is morally ambiguous, but also has incredible hospitality!

Then the last part, with "if there's one thing ive learned in all my years here". It perfectly refers to the VOID and how he's been there for...a lot of years. and ALSO how Wingdings at first was in despair because he didn't "plant his heart in community gardens" aka- MAKE FRIENDS

"The culmination of man's mistakes" you mean your mistakes? 👁 Gaster?

The "culmination" and the "desert turning to glass" would probably refer to "THE INCIDENT" and just in general all the ripples that happen because of that- the incident is the culmination of Wingsings' mistakes...

"If there's something to be learn from all these losers" is really funny cause all I can think of is Gaster childishly calling Alphys and Sans "losers" in a tongue and cheak fashion. Except he's the only one in on the joke. DO YOU GUYS SEE MY VISION😭😭 He's got like the saddest life but is the happiest guy in the world

FINALLY FINISHED IT SO I GETTA YAP

okay so in the first bit, the first bit is dark going into a lighter background to kinda symbolize how Sans views current times dark- and as he 'turns to face the past' or whatever, it grows lighter because that's what the past felt like compared to present because of how distant wingdings became

Meanwhile the lyrics symbolize like how he isn't really letting go? And how wingdings is slipping away from him so he's just going over these old memories hoping things would return to the way they were

Anyway the 'world we knew bit' is supposed to look like a child's drawing, and it's how they viewed themselves back then, the center of each other's worlds, important yk!!

(Also fun to note, but the earth looks so weird because honestly idk if monsters would actually even know what the world would look like?? Maybe there's a few maps or smth that've come through the dump but those are rare so the most monsters would really know is like 'blue circle with green blobs)

But yeah!! So cool!!

Also my art is really inconsistent in this because I had on it and worked on my artstyle a little so I promise that's why it looks so odd anyway yeah

What Kind Of Monster Was He?

…OK, SO WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS-

I had planned to finish this into a full fledged animation, but a lot of the parts I did end up finishing just didnt live up to what I imagined…I waited for more motivation to happen, but it just didnt so HERES THE COLORED ANIMATIC CAUSE IM REALLLY HAPPY WITH WHAT I HAVE and ive sat on posting this for like a 2 weeks 😭 which is an eternity in my time

Im gonna post the unfinished “finished” part on my side account @o-sunny-day though! and probably have people yell at me cause it actually isnt that bad AND IT TOTALLY ISNT I just… art. You get it. ENOUGH YAPPING! ITS TIME TO YAP!

The explaining is much less expansive than in Dear My Dear just because I didnt work on it long enough to think every bit of it through. This is just a clean, nicer looking, and colored version of the very first storyboard.

I usually think about and put more effort into the little stuff while making the FINISHED bits since ive had so much more time to think about that in all the preppin n sketching.

BUT I liked the explaining format I did for Dear My Dear so im sticking with it!

The main idea for this was to do a study of Wingdings’ character from what we’ve been given, mainly focusing in on the expectations he puts on himself because holy shit the lyrics for this works so stupidly well it makes me mad LOOK AT THIS???

Wingdings and Sans holding hands as kids, before turning to a casket like appearance for adult WD. The flowers hes holding are pretty important too, Marigolds to represent grief, Lilys, new life, and Forget Me Nots for this lovely little line I found when looking up good flowers to use-

“a promise to always remember” ….stop that.

That actually also has a double meaning in this case too. 1, ofc the forgetting of Wingdings. But ALSO Wingdings forgetting something himself. Forgetting who he is. Almost like a Zuko ATLA situation.

Did you have a family?

Who knows where theyre parents are, but this is HAPPY TIME and we’re gonna assume they were so awesome and very kind but had to leave or went to a farm in the sky for whatever reason.

The colors here I had a lot of fun with. Their parents had warm colors but the boys have cold, still with warm accents. Its said they more or less raised each other being very independent as shown in the second part with them running out the door by themselves.

Before, we started with the beginnings. The good things, the only thing Wingdings cares to even recall. Now we’re seeing his life really start to turn upside down- making first contact with The Player :D

He’s hesitant to reach out, but is intrigued, before getting a rushing revelation of his reality and how it isnt “real”

Rather than feeling crushing existential dread, he more feels pressured to be BETTER, to figure a solution, to do something. Thats what white represents here

WHAT KIND OF MILK WERE YOU?

We then switch to more examples of how Wingdings is taking this pressure (not well) The soft tones of yellow that were shown before, turn to way brighter, intensifying that feeling that he should be fine, he should be happy, drowning in success of being the Royal Scientist.

But he just desperately wants to just go back to a time of nice coldness.

The warm vs cold tones in this I had so much fun with, coldness is supposed to represent hostility usually, while warm is nice and happy. (same with Black and white. Scary, relieving,) But these points often contradict each other, its hard to tell what you’re feeling vs what you’re supposed to be feeling. Just like Wingdings!

WHAT KIND OF LIFE DID YOU LIVE THROUGH?

The white lab coats, the expectations, theyre on all of them. But Wingdings has essentially become his expectations.

He questions what life he wants to live, one being himself and alone (speaking in wingdings) or not himself and with company (speaking in a “normal” font) Still, he frames it in past tense as he believes theres no going back now, based on what he knows.

“One of the last happy moments they had together” stop that. (i cant find a link to when that was said but I know it was once, about them taking a photo together….)

Compared to the childhood Wingdings remembered, heres the sadder, bleaker, more realistic version. He always thought they were laughing at him but… maybe they werent.

It doesnt matter now though. Because in the NOW, Wingdings has become consumed by his expectations of himself, seeing this has the “only option” to do the only thing that he feels will give his life meaning and purpose, establishing connection with THE PLAYER

But the grocery list goes on…

And yet life continues on without him, and his room is transformed into a more livable space now that someone is…living in it. Always hurts so much making the differences between Wingdings and Papyrus’ room. It feels like making something out of the man Wingdings COULD HAVE been. Because honestly thats just what Papyrus is,

speaking of being a mystery image with secrets to be unlocked, i’m gonna refrain from yapping. do the sleuthing yourself I believe in you

ok…. fine….I cant resist…. BUT DO THE TRANSLATING YOURSELF IM NOT DOING EVERYTHING FOR YOU

Ill start by explaining my proccess cause it was quite eventful!

The jumping off a cliff towards something was inspired off of this tiktok :D

Thought it worked GREAT for a character who was so dead-set on his goal he destroyed himself in the process of achieving it… And thats all I had in mind, Wingdings reaching twords his goal (a star/the player) and the rest I just went along with as I drew

I didn’t intend on the background being black, was just a placeholder, so once I finished the line art I fiddled with the color. thought some sort of “blue screen of death” would go well with the themes of what happens to him since he is IN a game. so the universe literally restarts (resets :3) itself to get rid of a glitch (him)

My theory currently is that his goal was to become some sort of player/gain the ability to reset, and once he did that, the game saw him as an error/glitch, so got rid of that- bro IS Turbo from wreck it ralph

After that whole idea- I was looking at some references to replicate the text and it made me go “OOOHOOO” when I saw the QR code like “oooo I could make my own and have some fun with that…” and so I did- and decided to link my original idea for that!

talking about the actual drawing though:

The cliff Dings is running off of has echo flowers because I SWEAR those are important. trust.

Him not wearing gloves is meant to depict how little he cares for his own safety in his last days. I did the same thing in my IM SANE amv!

The “star” having an eye is meant to show how its both the player, and seeing the stars/surface that Wingdings is reaching for.

The wingdings font covering Dings’ face/eye socket is meant to symbolize that perhaps he feels defined by his inability to communicate like other people naturally can.

“Ths Stars, They Cry Out Your Name” is my favorite thing in this… from Wingdings’ perspective, the only thing that matters, that understands him, that TRULY values him…is THE STARS. its like this goal that he has that will make him feel valued. Getting to the surface = being “worth it” But truly, the stars are the PEOPLE that care about him. Asgore, Alphys, Sans, people that are genuinely concerned over his obviously deteriorating mental health- they CRY out his name, not “call” like I had originally planned.
