Decided to start doing pixel measurements
Basically, there's a height chart that I've seen around that has all of the Psychonauts 2 characters in a line from tallest to shortest.
Tumblr media
So, using this, I figured out how tall Raz was by putting the chart into MS Paint 3D and getting a pixel measurement,
Tumblr media
which turned out to be 81 pixels. Since we know from stats in game that Raz is 4'4", we can go from using the pixel measurement to figure out how many pixels can equal 4'4". 4'4" is 52 inches tall. We must divide 52/81 to get the amount that 1 pixel to x inches. So 52/81 = .64 inches.
The formula I used was P*.64 = X... /12 = H
Below the keep reading I'll place down my chart of different character groupings. I used generated approximations on HeightComparison.com
Tumblr media
DREAM TEAM! Sasha turned out to be 135 pixels, Milla was 133 pixels, Morceau was 105 pixels, Raz is canonically 4'4" Lili is an approximation. She measured around 75 pixels. So she should be 4' even.
Tumblr media
AQUATO FAMILY! Augustus, not including his hair, had the exact same pixel measurement as Milla. Donatella was 129 pixels. Dion was 125 pixels. Frazie was 117 pixels. Raz is his canon height. Mirtala was 68 pixels. Queepie was 56 pixels.
Tumblr media
PSYCHIC SEVEN! Cassie was 180 pixels. Helmut was 150 pixels. Otto was 125 pixels. Ford was 120 pixels. Bob was 116 pixels. Lucy was 90 pixels. Compton was 84 pixels.
Tumblr media
SENIOR AGENTS! Sasha was 135 pixels Milla was 133 pixels Hollis was 126 pixels Truman was 122 pixels Morceau was 105 pixels
Tumblr media
JUNIOR AGENTS! Adam was approximately 146 pixels Lizzie (and Norma is the same height) was approximately 119 pixels Gisu was 98 pixels Sam was 88 pixels Morris was 79 pixels

So, what Psychonauts ships - excluding Raz x Lili and Milla x Sasha - do you like and what made you ship them?
HM OKAY...... I enjoy quite a few actually.
BOB AND HELMUT. but like...DUH as to why I love them. They are literally everything ever.
Loboto and Oleander when I realized that it can be read as implied by the plot. And I am NOT immune to weird old men doing evil science together as a gay thing.
Kitty and Franke, even though I don't think abt them much I think they are very silly and I love that they are pretty much canon baby gays it is very funy and cute to me.
I know that I like Frazie and Norma but like. I need to think about it more y'know. The dynamic idea is great and I acknowledge them as a ship that i like but they haven't super implanted in my brain yet with like headcanons and stuff. But I want to come up with some ideas for them.
Adam and Morris bc my friend Dell is a genius for introducing me to the ship idea and I absolutely love them now. So smart. I am also not opposed to having Lizzie involved in this dynamic too👍
I love to acknowledge whatever is going on between Otto and Ford and Lucy. But then also Otto and Bob and Helmut. I choose to have no idea if these relationships are romantic or not but there's definitely some kinda thing going on.
I love Donatella and Augustus too <3

so i wanna talk about my hcs/interpretations of otto's relationships to the rest of the psychic 7 because im very sane and normal. putting it under the cut cause theres quite a lot of text:
ford - the og boys. they're made for each other in that they're both fucking insane. i hate these freaks /pos. i like the idea of them having met in college. maybe they dated, maybe they didnt. i like both options. ford has 2 hands. i think after lucrecia joined the psychic 7, they startrd drifting apart which only intensified as more people joined and ford was the leader so everyone wanted to hang out with him, leading to him having less and less time for the og :( but i think that even when they dont talk much, they still have that innate comfortableness when being around each other. like. even just doing regular stuff together feels easy & effortless? but also i think they reconnect post-game!!! hooray for friendship!!!
lucrecia - my personal hc is that they met on an exchange trip in high school bc i dont think otto's grulovian, but i honestly also rly like the idea of them being childhood friends. goated hc. but anyway yeah they're also besties sobs…. on the surface, lucrecia is the calm yhat balances out otto's…. ottoness, but once you get to know her better, shes also insane. idk i dont rly have a lot of thoughts to put into words with these 2 but theyre BESTIES!!!!
cassie - they butt heads obviously, but theyre close methinks. i hc that cassie was the first to join the psy7 after the initial trio, so with ford and lucy too busy canoodling, i think they ended up hanging out a lot. i think cassie is good at pulling otto back down to earth when he gets too lost in the sauce and starts overcomplicating things compton - i think compton is truly the one person in the psychic 7 who being with is actually. quiet. calm. whatever. for otto. cause with everyone else its always high energy - even cassie, whos usually the calm, down to earth one of the group who grounds a dynamic, her personality happens to clash with otto's so they bicker a lot. but compton's gentle nature is a good match for those times where the Introversion hits otto. i think parallel play is their primary form of hanging out. also i think they both struggle with sleeping (otto cause adhd and compton cause anxiety) and it's just like an unspoken agreement between them that when one of them cant sleep they can always come talk. ALSO. i hc that compton also has somewhat of a knack for science (he helped build the gpc and astralathe 100%) so theyre scientist with the mind of an artist x artist with the mind of a scientist. amen. i love electric sheep
bob - my hc for them is pretty much the same as the commonly accepted fan interpretation. 10/10, no notes. theyre stoner buddies and i think they may have kissed a little. and maybe even…. no, i shant say. i listen to for forever from dear evan hansen and goodbye ms flower thief while thinking about them and just sit there feeling utterly despondent
helmut - NOW THIS. NOW THIS IS A DYNAMIC I THINK IS UNDERRATED. theyre so. UEEEEGHHHH. i think they're the type of silly goofy friends who joke around all the time. things that wouldn't normally be funny seem hilarious when they're together. SO MANY INSIDE JOKES. just a good time all around. i think helmuts also the first one to notice otto's Mental Problems post pn2. they're just uuueeghhh. its so so important to me how artistically oriented otto is despite being a scientist and helmut is an artist as well!!! so!!!! they're both so deeply creative and thats just everything. to me.
also honourable mention to the otto/helmut/bob trio bc i dont have anything to say about it that i haven't already said for otto/bob and otto/helmut but like i fucking love them as a trio. they're all so like. sensitive to the world. and creative. YEAH. good fucking trio i love this trio

hnn someone please have some admittedly a bit scattered psychonauts x adventure time thoughts
head a bit empty rn, ideas for psychic 7 bouncing around like an idle screensaver
but if its an au then surface level ideas to what their character in ooo would be (not exactly the character-as-this-character kind)
Zanotto fam as part Grass part Fire humanoid, however that would work
Werebear and/or vampire Helmut and he has frequent concerts
Booles and Cassie got something to do with talking animals I'm sure
Otto - some robot person like BMO, Ford - got forest vibes but also fire is fun but also that man is a jack of trade magic mannnn, and Lucy as some water/ice elemental that has a specific royal family she would dislike
They are all wizards(or at least magic users) I'm so sure of that, psychonauts as wizards equivalent and all that, even got their secret area
if its crossover then would love to imagine
someone like Otto and Princess Bubblegum interact about science
or something like difference between Psychics vs Wizards
Then there's the shit with the psycho-portal and mindscapes-- definitely even more wacky with the citizens of Ooo, even more so on specific persons who has been through the shit
Then there is also the thematic exploration stuff like re: f&c with the similarity of old coots' trauma and how they deal with it, and then getting a chance to heal
Name idea: Psychic, Madness and Sadness

Whispering Water: Made with Love
There are different ways people express their love. Sometimes it’s with words, others with song, some with actions, some with touch.
Otto?
He makes things.
------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- -------------------------------
He’s a month into his new internship when the first slow day comes. Agent Nerumen says that there’s nothing on the docket today, nothing but relaxation and rest. When Otto complained, she fixed him with a look and he went skittering out her lab pronto.
But now that he’s out here, he’s not sure what to do with himself.
“I’m. So. BORED,” He complains, throwing his arms out on the exclamation before letting gravity pull them back down to earth on the couch he’s stretched out on.
Somewhere to his left, Ford snorts, “So you’ve said, what, 5 times now?”
Otto turns to glare at the 13-year old, but Ford only ducks his head, catching a glimpse of his smirk, and resumes sweeping the deck they’re out on.
“Do you even need to do that? Seriously I never see you without that stupid broom.”
Ford shrugs, “It gives me somethin tah do. Unlike you, lazin’ about there like a sack of potatoes.”
Otto rolls his eyes, but he stays focused on Ford, watching him go back and forth on the deck, physically sweeping nothing but dust and air off into nothing. His mind latches onto the broom though.
Really it’s just a broom, it does what it does. Sweeps, and that’s it. He wonders though, if it could be more. Like what if it could also hold a psychic charge, or conduct lightning, or what if he stuck rockets on it and made something like a witch’s broom!
“Heeeey Ford?”
Ford pauses at the tone and looks back at him with wary curiosity. Otto now has  a grin splitting his face.
“How do ya feel about experimenting with that broom?”
Ford looks at the item in question, then him, then back at the broom. When he looks back at Otto, he fully faces him with a hand on his hip.
“Whaddaya got in mind?”
The rest of the day is spent rigging that broom with as much as they can. Over the course of that afternoon, the manage to make it shoot PSI-Blasts, conduct various other psychic abilities from far away, make it go at Mach-10 by having it hold as much psychic energy as possible and then releasing it in multiple sweeping motions-
And yes.
They strapped the closest approximation to psychically propelled rockets onto it. Otto got a mild concussion after trying to ride it; Ford got a night spent keeping an eye on the stupid teenager in the infirmary.
And the broom.
He still has it, 10 years later, with many more alterations added to it. Bob jokingly calls it an accident waiting to happen. Ford calls it Bacon Rider.
------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- -------------------------------
Compton hesitantly waddles into Agent Neruman’s lab one day, clutching that thick helmet shaped piece of tinfoil in his hands.
“Uh-Uhm... Agent Neruman?” Compton calls out, and Otto winces before clambering over the desk to hop down in front of him.
“Sorry Compton. Just me here today. Agent Neruman’s out, some important business I think.”
“oh...” The smaller teen says, disappointed and worried as he worries at the tinfoil.
Which... now that Otto’s got a better look at it, doesn’t appear to be in good shape. It’s falling apart in places, looks scorched in others. He doesn’t remember Compton taking that thing off... ever in the two weeks he’s been here.
“Whatcha got there Boole?”
Compton startles slightly, eyes darting between Otto and the sorry lump of tinfoil rapidly, before he deflates with a sigh.
“It’s... my hat.”
“I know it’s your hat but, and I’m sorry to say, that is a very sorry looking hat.”
“It’s for my Fragokinesis.”
“Your fragro-what-now?”
Compton weakly glares at him before diverting his eyes, picking at the pieces distractedly, “E... E-Explosions. I can make things... explode... with my mind.”
Otto’s eyes widen in surprise, and he can’t help his initial reaction. Which is: Excitement.
“Woah really?! I’ve never heard of that ability before!” He exclaims, failing to read Compton’s discomfort, “That is like, classic thing that people think of when they wonder what powers they’d have!”
“They shouldn’t.”
Otto flinches at the cold and hurt tone, his excitement dying rapidly as he clues in. Compton looks angry, just about tearing at the tinfoil, and his voice is dripping with bitterness.
“I-I guess it’s easier to fantasize about it when they don’t- they don’t have to worry about accidents.”
Otto goes silent for a solid few minutes, digesting this and coming to what he’s sure are the correct conclusions, based on current evidence.
“... That’s what this is for?” Otto asks, tapping at the tinfoil. Compton nods reluctantly, crumpling the edges and then opening one his hands to see the flaky pieces in his palm.
“It’s... It’s wearing out and I need new tinfoil...”
“Why not check in the kitchen?”
And from the contrite look Compton gives him, Otto further guesses that he already has and may have been banned from using theirs.
“Well!” Otto spins around and heads for the various drawers and stacks of material around the lab, “I’m sure we have some tinfoil in here somewhere! Come on! Let’s look!”
The next hour is spent fashioning a new tinfoil hat for Compton, to which they spend talking about Compton’s fragokinesis accidents, what causes them, and how this stuff somehow helps. He leaves with the new hat, thankful for the help, but Otto isn’t satisfied.
There’s gotta something better than makeshift tinfoil that can help.
When Gisu comes back, she finds Otto passed out over blueprints of the Psychoisolation unit and his own half finished ideas about dampener hats. The next couples weeks are then spent with the two experimenting, trying to find the right amount of material, psychic science, and mathematical equations to make this work.
There’s a few duds, some very discouraging for Compton, but Otto doesn’t give up, and soon the day comes when Otto can present Compton with his new and highly improved hat.
Compton can hardly believe that Otto would work that hard for him, and tries to figure out some way he could return the favor, but Otto brushes him off.
Compton newfound ease and comfort is it’s own reward.
Over the next decade, Otto continuously innovates on this design, but this hat? The first one? It’s Compton’s favourite.
------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- -------------------------------
Cassie may have only been with them for a month now, but she has integrated into the group very quickly, and Otto likes having her around. He especially likes watching Ford and Cassie get into debates about books. The gleam in Ford’s eyes is fun to catch for some reason.
But either way, her 18th birthday is coming up soon, apparently, and he wants to make something for her. But not just any random thing, no no no. Something that can be useful, and something she would highly appreciate.
So he finds various books on China he can find, before discarding them just as fast when he reads something that doesn’t sit well, and tries to subtly ask Cassie about anything she wants (Based on both her’s and Ford’s looks, he’s not very good at subtle.)
Compton finally comes to his rescue, having gotten far closer than any of them have in less the time.
So he works for two weeks straight, aided at times by Agent Nerumen, other times by astronomers he’s managed to get a hold of. When the day comes, he nearly misses it, having passed out from too little sleep, and has to scramble to where everyone else is holding the quiet celebration.
He manages to get the two gifts into Cassie’s hands before kissing the floor.
Ford grumbles good naturedly as he ices the small bump on his forehead, and Bob engages Otto in a verbal sparring match, but he doesn’t miss when Cassie opens the two boxes he threw the gifts into.
“Otto...”
“I... I read calligraphy is... kind of a big thing where you’re from... A-And the star map, uh, uhm, you can use it anywhere, anytime, and you’ll see what they look like from your position.”
“Otto,” Cassie shakes her head, laughter breaking up the syllables, but from the way she looks at him, holding the brush he painstakingly made with reverence, he can tell she likes them.
Cassie still uses the brush and map to this day.
------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- -------------------------------
When they get Helmut back, safe and sound with body AND mind, it takes a while for them to realize something is still off about him.
In their defense! They were already used to Helmut having a bad sense of time, but ever since his 2 week stint as a brain, it’s near non-existent now. Which is very bad. Very, very bad, especially since they may have to deal with time-sensitive things now.
They thought about buying Helmut a watch, but he already has a phone and barely checks the time on it until too late, and alarms only go so far when you can snooze them or miss them entirely when you get so into something.
So, Otto pulls out a fresh blueprint, a notepad, and gets to work.
With input from the others, he fashions up a prototype, and they have Helmut test it out. From there, they figure out what does and doesn’t work, and by Helmut’s birthday, the final watch is complete.
It’s meant to help Helmut work around his now terrible sense of time, with it being set 10-15 minutes early, a psychic alarm that alerts him when a deadline is coming up, and a few other features to encourage him re-learning how long seconds and minutes are.
Otto is rather proud of it.
Even years later, when Helmut has a better grasp on time, he still uses it, and nearly panics when it gets broken on a mission, relieved when it’s fixed and Otto isn’t mad about it breaking in the first place.
------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- -------------------------------
When Bob’s 17, that’s when they all learn the extent of his mother’s alcoholism. Bob has kept completely mum about the whole thing, other than vague allusions towards wanting to help her. But when they learn, they also want to help
Otto sees a hopefully simple solution, monitoring her alcohol intake. He has to make it accurate and update based on psychic readings rather than manual input.
So he makes a device. In two parts, one that stays on the person, which reads the brain activity of said person via psychic readings, and the other records and presents the data: Alcohol intake, current blood alcohol content based on calculations, steps to remedy any hangovers in the future, and also warnings of reaching the state of drunk.
He gives it to Bob, stating it’s for his mother, and maybe she could try using this to get better. Bob doesn’t really... say anything but thanks, and it leaves Otto wondering if it was the best solution.
When they find out she died, Otto knows it didn’t work.
Bob finds the device again, 5 years later. He’s bored and barricaded in his room because his friends, well meaning but meddling friends, have tried to have a talk with him after he stumbled back home rather drunk. He then proceeded to barricade himself in his room, and that’s where has been, slowly sobering up and bored now because there’s at least two people taking up sentry duty outside his door.
So he rummages through his closet, trying to find something to occupy his mind with, when he finds it again. And... he’s not sure what synapse fires in his mind at the sight, not sure what compels him to try the thing out for once, but he does. And as he reads what comes up on the tablet screen...
He’s still not sure he can entirely explain what happens in his mind at that moment, but he has the sinking feeling his friends might be right.
------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- -------------------------------
People are scared of what they don’t understand.
Lucy has hydrophobia.
Now Otto knows how this hydrophobia got passed down from her Nonno to her,  but when he thinks back to the Rhombus, he’s amazed she held it together so well and was even enjoying it.
And he thinks it’s chalked up to her learning about underwater life.
So the connection is simple to make. Make her something so that she can learn about water and everything that lives under it.
Harder than it seemed at first.
At first he just compiled all the knowledge from books he could find on the subject, but when he ran it by Ford, Cassie, and Bob... well said it was an excellent way to get them to sleep, and maybe it’d work on Otto if they tried.
So they helped him with a different approach.
Lucy learned by doing most of the time, and if things were entertaining and/or insightful, she’d absorb the knowledge like a sponge. So the answer was simple.
A comic book.
They spent ages putting it together. Every time they thought they were done, there was more yet to add so they’d have to make another, and another. And what they thought would be a 2 week project at best stretched into a year.
By the end, none of them ever wanted to see another fish or aquatic life, or hear another interesting water fact AGAIN for as long as they lived.
But it was worth it when they presented the stack of comic books to Lucy and she squealed in delight.
And over time, the hydrophobia faded.
They don’t know that Lucy shared the comics with her family too, or that she threatened to throw Lazarus off the waterfall if he didn’t find the one he lost toot suite.
He did. Just barely.
------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- -------------------------------
“Soooo, what are you planning?”
Otto looks up from his book at Lucy’s playful inquiry and raises an eyebrow, “I’m... not planning anything?”
“Tsk, sure you are. Your eyes have not read a single word on that page for an hour. What are you planning for our anniversary.”
Otto’s face heats. It’s been 12 years since they first met Lucy, and 2 since Ford, she, and HE had been an official... trio? Trio.
Bob likes to joke that the only reason it took so long is because Otto was so oblivious to what was going on that he only finally caught on when it was directly in front of his eyeballs. And, yes, when he looks back and compares the data with what he has of Helmut and Bob’s pining, he can see Ford’s early crush embarrassingly easy, see when it turned deeper, and when Lucy’s own crush started up, and also turned deeper.
Pinpointing when his own heart got stolen is harder to do. It just came on so naturally it was as if it was always there.
And the real reason was they all wanted to be full adults before anything happened, the ages and gaps between them a bit concerning n’ all.
But back on topic. The anniversary. He knows it’s been fast approaching and dammit he hates that Lucy can read his mind without actually reading his damn mind.
“I’m... well I am coming up with something.”
Lucy just gives him a lazy look, and Otto wants to hide his face with his book, as if that will help.
“Well, whatever it is, I’m sure it will be lovely Otto.”
“Heh ha, yeah. It will be. It’s me of course.”
The problem is he is drawing several blanks as to what he could do or make.
He’s made a ton of stuff over the years, for all of them, but Ford and Lucy especially. He’s not sure what he could do now!
There is one thing but... no it... no...
So he lays across his workshop table, flicking a pencil up and down, trying to come up with something as he gazes at the various machine parts and gadgets he’s built over the years.
He could- no it’s a stupid idea.
Groaning, he pulls himself up from the desk, only to flop backwards in his chair. It lazily spins him around and his eyes catch on the smithing equipment, left in a corner.
He remembers making the sword for Helmut and Bob’s wedding years earlier, remember the happy day all too well, a bright memory in his mind. He remembers the drive back, the three of them in one car as Cassie and Compton rode on a motorbike and Helmut and Bob drove the van.
He remembers them joking about their own theoretical wedding days.
Remembers feeling like they were only half joking sometimes.
And he also remembers the times where it came up again and again, usually when they heard of another wedding, or were attending one during missions.
He could...
He could.
It’s a potentially stupid idea but..
He actually wants to.
‘Come hell or high water then...’
------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- -------------------------------
Otto has never been more nervous in his entire life. He’s done missions ranging from easy to harrowing, given speeches at convention centers, even helped fight Malcallor when he was 15.
Somehow it doesn’t compare to this at all.
They’re relaxing back at home after a night out (Lucy’s idea), seated around the new and expertly carved coffee table (Ford’s, they broke the last one and Otto was about to give up on them entirely there), and Otto has been alternately fidgeting with his hands, hiding them because wow working on metal that small really hurt his hands, and trying NOT to seem nervous as hell.
He’s absolutely certain it’s not working because they keep looking at him, half concerned but enjoying the night too much.
For a while, he tries to rehearse what he wants to say, but gets caught up in just listening to the sounds of their voices, Ford’s southern drawl and Lucy’s slight grulovian accent, that while it calms him down, it also leaves him unprepared for Ford’s question.
“-to. Otto! Hey earth to Cabinet Man!”
Otto starts at that, gripping his clasped hands a bit too tight and wincing as he tries to shake them out, “Yeah? Sorry what-?”
“Alright Mentallis, what has been up with you all day?”
Crap.
He really thought’d be more prepared
Or have more time.
“I’m pretty sure he has something for us,” Lucy purrs, looking at him knowingly and for a brief moment he’s struck with the fear that she knows exactly what he’s hiding in his coat-
Maybe if he pretends it’s in the workshop, he can buy himself more time. Yes that will work!”
“Well-ah- as a matter of fact I do! Let me just go get it from the-the ah-the worksho-AAH!”
And in his haste to move, he topples backwards over the couch.
Ford mutters something about clumsy scientists and “Do you really have to make this a habit?” as he wraps up the ice Lucy newly froze and presses it to Otto’s eye, and Lucy chuckles good naturedly as she tries to soothe Otto’s nervousness about the whole thing.
So he decides that that’s the best moment he’s going to get. He pulls out the ring boxes and presents them to each other, and closes his eyes in preparation for what’s to come.
There’s a snap of the boxes flipping open, a gasp and- a thud. Otto opens his eyes to see Ford has now fallen sideways off the couch, eyes wide open in shock, and Otto has to laugh.
“Are you gonna start doing that too?” Otto says in between breaths and Ford snaps out of it, glaring at his laughter but unable to get rid of his smile.
“Oh you doggone-” Ford says as he climbs back onto the couch.
“I should have known,” Lucy says, but she’s smiling too, kisses him on the cheek.
“Sooo... That’s... a yes?”
Ford and Lucy look between each other, then back at him, “Yes.”
And now Otto really starts to laugh, because he’s been so nervous about this and now all that nervous energy is properly coming out in relief and giddy joy. His partners- fiancés, holy hell he can call them that, is this what it really feels like?- are laughing now too and he can feel their happiness enveloping him like a blanket-
“I CALLED IT!”
They startle away from each other, looking around the room in confusion until they see a bee, a squirrel, and a vine peeking through the window. Said things quickly scatter upon being found out and Ford huffs.
“That’s payback innit.”
“Oh let them have this Crully,” Lucy says, settling back down against Otto’s side, “We have this.”
That we do...
That we do.

Lucrecia Mux
Ford Cruller
character ask meme
i will do them both because i love them and have so many thoughts. psychonauts 2 is a game about old people doing war crimes
Lucy
First Impressions:
grandma!! sweet old lady!!! our introduction to nona is SO endearing and Raz is so sweet to her. he clearly loves her and so it also primes us, the audience, to be really fond of her from the first encounter
Impressions Now:
Lucrecia is a really good character. she's got such a rich and storied life, and we've still only seen half of it! what happened to her first husband? what did she do before coming to join the psychic 7? she's just so interesting and she's got so much depth to her. obviously she's a really tragic character, but she's also wise and sassy and so interesting in ways that female characters, especially older female characters, are rarely allowed to be. Lucy is so great and so refreshing. she's a funny old lady, a loving grandmother, a sassy and confident woman, a terrifying villain who killed hundreds of people in cold blood. she has the range
Favourite Moment:
this one's stretching it a little bit, but I'd probably have to say the archetype we meet of Lucrecia in Cassie's mind. it's obviously kind of a caricature of how Lucrecia actually was during her time in the psychic 7, but it was still the moment that made me go -- oh, wait, you're a person with depths and layers to you that we've barely even glimpsed. it's kind of melancholy, because that's the closest Raz (and the audience) ever gets to seeing how Lucy used to be -- before the deluge, before everything. there's so much to Lucy, such a fascinating and wonderful and warm person that used to be there, and all we ever get to see of her are other peoples' memories and old photographs. that was the moment that really sold me on her, and it also encapsulates a lot of the melancholy attached to her character.
Idea for a Story:
I don't have specific ideas but god I'm always so hungry for content of Lucy during her time with the psychic 7. the early days when it was just her and Ford and Otto, or bonding with the rest of the group (because she clearly meant so much to all of them) -- i crave it. i need it. give me the old person hippie commune stories
Unpopular Opinion:
i have two! time for a little controversy. the first is that the Nona=Lucrecia=Maligula twist is super obvious (especially if you've played the first game because certain things really stick out). this is fwiw not a bad thing, and I think it pairs well with how the Nick Johnsmith twist comes completely out of left field, but from quite early on in the game it's like, ok, i see where this is going.
for the second, i don't know if this is actually particularly unpopular but I think talking about other characters "going Maligula" kind of undercuts how much Maligula was, like, a perfect storm of tragic events that happened to Lucrecia, specifically? LIKE don't get me wrong it's a ton of fun to "what if" characters turning evil, i TOTALLY get that. but Maligula wasn't just one bad day, it was the culmination of years of manipulation and exploitation coupled with the tragedy of the time the psychic 7 spent exploring their minds without oversight or the knowledge of what could happen leaving Lucy vulnerable. Maligula is so much more than Lucy just turning evil, it was the love she felt for her people and her country being twisted and exploited, it was a woman being forced to do more and more horrible things until she broke. it's such an interesting and compelling and human tragedy, and it's really easy to undermine the sheer weight of all of that by just reducing it to "what if X character went evil". I DUNNO is that mean-spirited of me? i just really love tragedy and, like, Maligula is SUCH a good tragedy, i think she should be appreciated a little more
Favourite Relationship:
I really really love Lucy/Ford. they have such a compelling dynamic, and the love that was there directly catalysed the events of the second game. it's so good and so bittersweet, and also I just really love how shamelessly flirty Lucy is in the game! get it grandma!
Favourite Headcanon:
I have a lot but I really like thinking about Lucy's life, especially pre-psychic 7. like, this is a woman with stories. she's wanted in 4 countries and infamous in 7 more. she knows how to do Stuff with hydrokinesis that you've never even thought of. she is so interesting and i love thinking about her adventures.
Ford
First Impressions:
I remember being honestly pretty spooked by Ford! when you first meet him he's in this kind of incongruous dream sequence slash camera control tutorial (lol), and you start with this closeup on his weird old man face in a way that frames him as kind of sinister! what are you doing in my dream sequence, grandpa???
Impressions Now:
Ford. the saddest old man in the world. my beloved peepaw who has made so so many mistakes. he's such a tragic figure in such a good, compelling way! he had so much love and it made him so shortsighted! he destroyed himself and almost destroyed the Aquato family along the way because it was what he thought he needed to do to protect the one he loved. he has so far to fall in Raz's eyes, and I love how over the course of the second game we slowly see these layers of Ford (the wise mentor, the psychonaut, the living legend) get stripped apart until what you're left with is a sad, flawed, broken old man. it's so good
Favourite Moment:
it's gotta be the conversation Raz and Ford have if you ask about the eagle wrestler where they discuss the semantics of hyphenated words. it's just so perfect and so silly and I love how it encapsulates their dynamic. If you've never seen it (and it's very easy to miss!) please watch the linked clip, I promise it's so good.
Idea for a Story:
I would love to see Ford and Augustus sit down together and really hash things out after the events of the second game. one of the things I love about the games is their theme of growth, and how even though you can't undo your mistakes, you can move past them if you're willing to reach out and try and reconnect. there's a lot of hurt there, and I think it'd be cathartic for both of them honestly
Unpopular Opinion:
Ford is a better mentor figure to Raz than Sasha. there, I said it. listen I love the Raz&Sasha dynamic but I think it's mixed up in a lot of hero worship from Raz's side and projection (and also general 'not great with kids'-ness) from Sasha's side. whereas I think Raz&Ford have a much more genuine connection, Ford recognises Raz's spirit and talent but also his need for guidance and mentorship and meets him exactly where he is, and Raz very quickly gloms onto Ford as a weird surrogate grandparent-type figure.
Favourite Relationship:
I know I've already said Lucy/Ford but come on. Lucy/Ford. old people in love just gets me. if I had to pick another one I'd say Ford and Otto because I just love the 'snarky old man besties' thing they have going on, but like I mentioned above Ford and Raz is also extremely good
Favourite Headcanon:
listen, Lucy/Ford/Otto poly trio? amazing. outstanding. i bet they got up to so much chaos in the early days

Do it. Share to us how Cassie does her hair. (I was about to metaphorically shake you for Otto or Ford or Lucy Hcs, but you mentioned Cassie and we definitely need more of her)
You are entirely right the world needs more Cassie O’Pia
She always takes her showers in the morning. 100%. Must have that routine. Then she puts it up, and lets it airdry on its own.
Cassie loves to wear her hair in a bun, but she only does it when she has time. She does it more as she gets older and has more free time.
Usually, she wears it with a bandana or headscarf-- She and Lucy love to find new ones and talk about designs. She’s a huge fan of accessories but rarely has the time.
If her hair is in a bun, she will take after Bob and put stuff in it. Usually pencils. They tend to get stuck there as she looks for them around her library.
She doesn’t tend to think much about appearances, though she would love the light academia style. When she’s told about it, she doesn’t instantly try it, but she would eventually quietly ask someone about it and get a flood of “You should do it!!! You’d look great in that!!”
Please. light academia cassie. that’s a desperate thing i’m begging for it.
Her relationship with Otto is very much strained. They don’t talk much at all, and they share very little in common. Even so, they love to do pun contests against each other, to an insane degree. They will not stop after it’s started.
Cassie and Ford both love Lucy. I completely accept the “Cassie likes Lucy” hc and 100% agree that Lucy has two hands.
Lucy and Cassie were really, really close. Both loved getting to babysit for the others but didn’t want kids of their own. It really hurt her when Lucy left.
Cassie and Compton definitely talk through the bees. Just. “Cassie told me to tell you [x]” and vice versa.

I love the idea that most of the time, the Psychic 7 show their love in little ways, not out loud, so here's some thoughts on them and love languages. Because I like rambling.
Ford will insult everyone and especially those he cares about, but he'll also give people stuff he made himself. (Mostly woodcarvings, he's definitely a woodcarving type of guy.) When he gets older, he stops acting like he likes anyone, but he definitely does soften up for his friends. They're allowed to get away with a lot more. His love language is likely acts of service or gifts, and he loves getting weird gifts of the random stuff around the world. He's the kind of guy to collect something. I think stamps...? It's not snow globes. But it's souvenir something.
Helmut will usually write songs for people or just light up the room around them. He's always willing to tell a bad joke or do the social stuff for folks, even if it can be kinda rough on him too sometimes. He doesn't have a lot to give, but he really does do the thing of "I saw this rock that looks like a gear, it reminded me of you, here Otto!" or "I went to a farmers market and saw a bee plush, so here ya go Cassie" and little things that he finds. His love language is likely physical touch, so he and Bob are almost always holding onto each other, leaning on each other, etc.
Bob's more of a quality time sort of guy, and if he spends time with you, that usually means he cares a lot about you. He's bad with actually talking to folks, but he's got that habit of just sitting in the same room and reading a book at the same time as you and thinking that you're his best friend for doing this with him, though he does worry that he's not exciting enough for people like Otto. But he likes just getting to be around people he loves, so if you want help with something boring, he'll join in just to be around you.
Otto's got a habit of bending the rules for everyone who makes him smile, and he also insults everyone he cares about. His main love language is acts of service or quality time, and he likes having folks around him, but he does need time to himself too. He shows his love by making things for others, or checking up on them when he doesn't see the others doing things like getting food.
Cassie's very much a gift-giver, and she always tries to make what she gives because she worries about the cost of things. This has led to so much honey candy. However, the way she feels the most loved is words of affirmation-- She likes to hear people acknowledge what she's done and to be told she's done well.
Compton's love language is acts of service, but specifically in the way of food. He loves getting to make things for others, and it's one of his favorite things to do, even though it did make him anxious for a long time. You vaguely mention you like [x] food, and he will perfect it so he can make it for you.
Lucy is also a gift-giver or a quality time person. She likes to go on very relaxed dates, but she loves giving gifts to people as well, especially when she's made them herself. She's made some very neat things, like hats or sweaters or, on a few occasions, stuffed animals or other funky lil things. They're fun to make and she loves the reactions.
these are all very sweet... love this group of friends... who love each other,,

Mystery (Psychoanuts 2, Otto/Ford/Lucy, SFW, major spoilers)
Stream-of-consciousness, Otto POV. Trying to get some ideas out of my head. References to major spoilers. Otto/Ford/Lucy with ace Otto. I can't decide how to edit this into something I can archive.
For this past year's Multiamory March prompts at @polyamships (Mystery.)
---
Their minds didn't have to stay a mystery.
Otto had done everything he could to further the understanding of the psychic mind. He'd known his own mind since he was a child, known what he could do and that there were people out there who were afraid of people like him... that would do horrible things to him because they were scared, and claim it was for their own good. He'd seen it happen to too many others, brilliant minds sliced to ribbons by their so-called doctors.
For so much of his life, he'd preferred to work alone. His own mind wasn't that much of a mystery to him, but other people's minds? That was a challenge that he'd thought he lacked the mental fortitude to unravel, for most of his life.
Really, it wasn't until he'd met Ford that he'd started to care. They'd been friends almost immediately - it wasn't often that Otto met someone who could keep up with him almost immediately, either as a psychic or as a fellow man of learning. The two of them had worked so closely together during their research - if Otto could say anyone knew his mind, it was Ford.
People had occasionally mistaken them for a couple. Well, "mistaken" - the only thing that they were actually wrong about was the presence of a physical relationship between them. Otto had always focused on the mind; the only kind of intimacy that appealed to him was the sort that could only be shared by psychics, and much of their research of Psitanium had been to find ways to use it to expand the mind. For most of the early years he and Ford had worked together, they'd spent much of their time trying to surpass their limitations, and had relied on each other to pick themselves back up during the inevitable failures. In a sense they were in a relationship, if not the sort that they were familiar with.
They didn't spend every minute together, of course; the more they researched Psitanium the more they found fascinating phenomena around the world, things that bore more research, and so sometimes one of them had to leave to examine them while the other stayed to further their investigations there. And it was on one of those research trips that Otto had met Lucrecia. Hydrokinesis had rarely shown up in the few texts he'd found about reported psychic powers, so of course he'd been fascinated. And when he'd realized how useful it could be to mine the more far-flung deposits, he'd known he had to introduce her to his partner. They had started to find other psychics at that point, and had both been discussing bringing others into their research project - more minds meant more opportunities to explore, after all.
Lucy might've been the first, but others had followed her soon after. And yes, Otto would admit he had never hit it off as well with most of the others. It wasn't that he disliked them; he'd just never really understood what they'd wanted from him. He was a researcher, a man of science, and he was trying to solve the mysteries of the mind - what else did they expect? He could tell that some of them thought he was obtuse, and maybe he was, just a bit... but it was only to conserve his energy for important research.
And as for his partner, and his new friend... he really wasn't that surprised that Ford and Lucy had hit it off as well as they had. They had a great deal in common, really, the same mischievous nature that had always amused Otto to no end. Maybe he was supposed to have been jealous, but seeing them being happy together always brightened his day. If anything, he'd just wished they would clean the beanbags after they fooled around on them - honestly, other people had to *sit* on those!
Still... those had been good days. The lot of them had been unstoppable, really - all of them pushing new boundaries in psychic research, breaking down all of the barriers within their own minds... if only they could've kept going, if they could've kept searching inwards, they could've made amazing discoveries. Maybe they could've found a way to freely explore the collective unconscious, discovered a font of all of the information ever known by any human being. Or built machines that could broadcast their mental abilities to anywhere on the planet... the possibilities were endless!
But... the outside world still didn't understand them. They either feared and hated them, or tried to use them... and both had happened to one of their own. To Lucy, one of his closest friends. She hadn't listened to any of them when they'd told her to stay away from Grulovia, even Ford - her sense of duty had been too strong, even stronger than her love for him. Ford had been so lost, and Otto... he'd done his best to raise his spirits, tried to remind him of his purpose, but he'd known that that wasn't much he could do except keep working, until she could come home.
And then... then....
It had all fallen apart. Everything he'd built, everyone he'd cared about. Lucy was gone, taken over by the monster that *he'd* had a hand in bringing to life, thanks to his experimentation - he tried to tell himself that it wasn't entirely his fault, that Maligula wouldn't have been created if Lucy hadn't left against their advice, but he knew he could try to change his own mind for a thousand years, and he'd still never be able to deny it. And that confrontation... that horrible confrontation.
Helmut was dead - another victim of his inventions. Bob was broken - he might never have seen eye to eye with the man but he'd never wanted to see him suffer like that. Cassie and Compton had withdrawn, outside of the very few official meetings, and Ford...
Ford... he didn't like to think about that meeting. He kept that memory under lock and key - the vacant look in Ford's eyes. The wandering, the menial tasks. Even when he'd finally taken him to the Psitanium lode, the only thing that seemed to make him a bit less scattered... he'd just stared when Otto had asked what had happened, why his mind had shattered, and quietly - sadly - admitted that he couldn't remember. Otto had tried all of his inventions, but... there was nothing that could replace whatever it was that he'd lost.
What he'd had taken from him, thanks to Otto's hubris.
He'd only ever wanted to improve people's lives. Psychics, yes, but not just psychics - someday he'd wanted to expand *everyone's* minds, make them realize that there was a world beyond what they could perceive with their five senses. And yet, when he looked back at his life, he could count so few people that he and his inventions had helped, and so many that they had hurt.
They'd called him the loner of the Psychic Seven - or Psychic Six, now, as they tried to hide the monster they'd created. Many had assumed he hadn't cared. That somehow, Maligula's attack hadn't affected him. They didn't realize that she was the reason behind every one of his strange and daring new prototypes. That every invention was meant to try to undo some of the damage he'd caused on that terrible day. That he had started his brain collection so that if any other Psychonaut was lost, at least they could have their memories, some record of their existence. No one else had to be broken or lost, not like Ford and Lucy. He could stop it.
Maybe it was too much for one man to take on. Maybe some mysteries were meant to be left unsolved. But what sort of self-respecting psychic genius wasn't at least going to try?

Character Ask Meme
Lucrecia Mux
Ford Cruller
Oo, okay. Two in one, nice. I'm going to start with Ford Cruller first purely because my first impression of him was hilarious, in my mind, at least.
First impression
My first thought when I saw Ford was just... funky looking old dude. I thought he looked crunchy and weird and he made me laugh. The bacon thing was so funny and I just... looked at him and thought "he must smell funny, ha. What a weird guy." I was not at all prepared for the rest of the game, obviously.
Impression now
My impression now definitely still includes funky looking old guy... with a sprinkle of grandpa warcrimes, and incredibly tragic backstory. This guy is both incredibly charming and incredibly stupid, and yes both can co-exist at the same time.
Favorite moment
It's so hard to choose just one. He has great dialogue in PN1 (mainly those witty insults, lol) but the stuff he says in PN2 literally kills me. The moment when he and Raz first reach the Gulch and Ford corrects the kid by saying "no, this is where it all ended Razputin"... Destroyed my heart. The dialogue at the end of each Ford mind section was also so, beautifully heart-rending. "How were we to know? It's not like she was marked fragile."
And also...
"It made us defenseless, psychically, but we were in a safe place here. We had each other." Gah. So good.
Idea for a story
Been meaning to write a fic where Raz and Ford talk things out post-canon. Raz is understandably mad, and Ford finally sits down and listens to him. Haven't gotten around to finishing that, but one day, I might.
Unpopular opinion
Truthfully, I'm not sure I know enough about people's opinions of this f-ed up grandpa to be able to answer this accurately. So I'll just give an opinion instead: Ford can't bowl for sh-t. If it weren't for telekinesis he would need those gutter guardrails for sure.
Favorite relationship
Lucy x Ford, omg. It's bittersweet and so warm. They were madly in love and I dig that. And I don't know, I guess I'm a fan of tragedy with a happy ending?
Ford and Otto is a close second. Oh, and this one is platonic, but Ford and Raz, mainly because of the mentor and mentee dynamic they had in PN1. Who knew that would get so sad?
Favorite headcanon
Not exactly a headcanon, since it's made clear dude is scared of heights in PN2, but it's hilarious to me to think about Ford teleporting to high places by mistake and getting stuck. Especially if he's tired and tries to teleport back to his office or something? Yeah, lol, the others had to coax him down out of a lot of trees, is the point. Ford is... a lot like a stray cat.
-----------
Next up, Lucrecia Mux:
First impression
Wow, scary - in response to Maligula, specially when she was just a shadowy figure in Loboto's mind. For Nona I was like, what a sweet granny, aww. It gets a little confusing because throughout at least half of PN2 she was basically three separate people (as far as the player knows) so if this reads weird that's why.
Impression now
Mischievous circus great-aunt, all around ultra nice gal. Will spoil her grandchildren silly and then turn right around and wipe the floor with them in cards (tears non-withstanding). She's got so much care in her heart, and she's got a sharp wit and... all I'm saying is she must have been a hoot back in the day with the Psychic 7 and yes, I think about that alot.
Favorite moment
Her when the Psychic 7 get back together again for the first time in 20 years. She's still regaining her memories, but one of the first things she has to say is still "remember how we used to fool around on the beanbags." Funny lady.
Idea for a story
I have so, so many.
One I do have in the works at the moment is Lucy owning a motorcycle back in the Gulch's glory days. It's Cassie/Lucy and I will not elaborate any further in this post because it's almost done and spoilers are no bueno. But yeah, it's (hopefully) funny, and cute, I promise.
Unpopular opinion
Again, not sure how accurate my answer to this question would be. So instead I'll just give the first random opinion that pops into my head... oh, okay: Bob used to have a portion of the Greenhouse that was all plants that grew primarily submerged in water, lotuses and such, and Lucy used to help him care for them. It was their little pet project together. They'd go to the Greenhouse together and check the water levels and gossip.
Favorite relationship
I'm very predictable. My favorite relationship with Lucy is Cassie/Lucy without a doubt. I don't want to get too into it because this answer is already so long, but I adore their relationship, I think it's cute. I dunno, it's pretty funny because it was about 2 minutes worth of dialogue that cemented it for me.
Ford/Lucy is second, of course.
Favorite headcanon
Lucy and Otto childhood friends? Yes please! He asks her to come help out in the Gulch, and maybe it wasn't just about mining? Maybe she needed a distraction and he knew that? Just a thought...
In a similar vein, her earrings are psitanium earrings, and Otto carved the psitanium and Ford did the metalwork... they were a gift.

Thinking about lasting psychical reminders of the Psychic Seven
First we ever saw were about the carvings at Whispering Rock [x] [x] -- Raz mentions that Ford made those. Already we can tell that these are of personal importance. Which is,,, damn dude you flipping sap, having that in the forefront of your mind.
Tumblr media
Now then there’s that stained glass marvel that is the Heptadome survives water tornado. Understandable development wise if they didn’t need to do realistic aftermath destruction, but man that really just makes me think that the Heptadome is really well built. There are symbols that are very fitting for each member of the psychic 7.
Tumblr media
I got this headcanon Ford & Otto made it together. Otto did the framework and design then Ford did the glasswork. That bit of glasswork in tomb of Sharkophagus. Helmut did mention Vision had an eye for visuals, and I do imagine that some traits of the Feast of the Senses band members mirror their real world counterparts. Got a new realization about the Eye symbol for Ford but that shall be another separate post.
okay okay so Now Sir I would like to know Who went ahead and make the Mural Carving in the Motherlobe
Tumblr media
Whoever design and carved this included Lucy and just added a curtain so they could be together but didn’t have people questioning who was that other person was.
Additionally even the picture of these folks in the historical archive looks folded, and then unfolded post-game for all Seven.
They included her even at the quarry site (Map with added observation)
Tumblr media
Whoever made these choices are also such a sweet sap/s
Even when they are gone, there is something there that they made in their memory, to remind them of each other.

Honestly, the thing that got to me the most about the Psychic 7 members that "survived" the Battle of Maligula is like...
How obvious the stages of grief are with them? Especially Anger with Bob and Bargaining with Cassie.
When I first saw the Paper Psychic 7 in Cassie's Collection, the thing that stuck out the most to me was actually what Ford said. I'm paraphrasing here, but... "If you keep tending the hives, I'm sure I'll come back."
That's textbook bargaining. When I first heard it, I couldn't think of anything other than that. It's the idea that "If I just do X, then it'll all be okay again/they'll be back!" because you're desperate just to have them back again.
So here's a little analysis of all five stages and who I'd put with them.
Stage 1: Denial. Ford's pushed them so far out of his mind he doesn't even recognize these people anymore, let alone recognizing that Lucy and Helmut are gone.
Stage 2: Anger. Bob's caught up in fits of anger, mad at himself and everyone else because none of them managed to protect Helmut, they killed their friend.
Stage 3: Bargaining. Cassie's version of Ford spells it out exactly. I cannot stress enough how much she is trapped in this stage of her grieving.
Stage 4: Depression. Compton's manifests more like anxiety, but he still realizes that they're gone, and has no references to the people who are gone in his mind. Lucy, Helmut, Bob, and Cassie aren't there, and he's completely aware of it, though it clearly hurts him and he misses Cassie a lot.
Stage 5: Acceptance. Otto is, at least at face value, doing okay enough. He knows they're gone, but he's still moving on, still doing his best for the future.
Sometimes the stages can become a weird loop-- Bob's between depression and anger; Ford is between denial and acceptace; Otto's between bargaining and acceptance. None of them are fully "over it" to be honest, but... Seriously, I think that Cassie's archetype!Ford is what hit me the hardest when it came to this. It's textbook bargaining, and yet it still feels so real, so desperate for it to be true.
I'm rambling. But seriously, I'm emotional over the old folks. So Very Emotional.
