“...stand for something different and build loyalty instead.”
FredFilms Postcard Series 10.4
“Copy and you’ll always  play second fiddle;   stand for something different and   build loyalty instead.” Neil Pedliham for FredFilms Quotations
Neil Pedliham* wasn’t a name I was familiar with (and there’s nothing about him that I can find on the internet, so I clipped his bio from the book I mention below) but boy did his sentiment ring true to the FredFilms “original, always” promise.
Not for nothing, I read some of Neil’s thoughts in a fabulous book called “I love it. What is it?: The power of instinct in design and branding” from the UK creative studio Turner Duckworth.
*Neil Pedliham. After graduating in graphic design from Salisbury College of Art in the UK, Neil began an expansive career working for a variety of consultancies in London. Gaining experience in many key disciplines with a a wide range of clients, he built a solid portfolio of work in corporate literature, identity, packaging, retail, leisure photography and art direction. He began his long association with the health and beauty retailer Superdrug as a packaging designer in the early 1990s. Early into his tenure, he became instrumental in a key brand redirection, incorporating  the restructure of its own label, and was subsequently appointed Design Services Manager, heading up the in-house design and artwork team while also managing the external roster of design consultancies. Having been a joint recipient of several gongs for Superdrug packaging, Neil was twice a judge for the DBA Design Effectiveness Awards.
After a brief career wind-down as a food photographer, neil is now retired and lives in Wales with his wife, two dogs, one cat and several thousand bees. He spends his spare time playing guitar, woodworking, tending his bonsai and nature watching in the hills around their cottage.

- A Heartfelt Hindu Celebration: Wedding Photography & Videography Service: Capturing Love at Hilton London Watford Hotel
We have served a nice Indian couple's wedding day in Hilton London Watford Hotel, Northwest London. Their love story unfolded in the elegant ambiance of the hotel, and our wedding photography and videography services were there to capture every moment.
This couple has actually contacted us just a couple weeks before their wedding day because they are both professional doctors and they told us they could not find enough time to plan their wedding arrangement. They got our contact from another doctor friend we served a few weeks before this couple's wedding, who used to work in the same hospital as the groom.
The Wedding Arrangement
The Hilton London Watford Hotel served as the perfect setting for their celebration. The couple orchestrated the entire event within the venue, creating a convenient and joyous atmosphere for all. As is customary in Indian weddings, the ceremony took center stage. It was an enjoyable celebration, the food and dance were superb!
The Unusual Requests
The DJ offered to display the wedding photos at the party. So during the party, we took about an hour off to process the ceremony photos for the DJ. It enhanced the guests' experience as people genuinely enjoyed reviewing the day! In the instant edits, we included the preparation shots before the ceremony, showing the bride getting her makeup done and the groom having the turban fitted.
The first look of the couple got a lot of cheers. The bride walked on the idle accompanied by her father and her son. Her radiant look was done by the same makeup artist who served another doctor's wedding. She is very nice and professional. Unlike other Asian makeup artists, she sells natural bridal looks, so the brides look like themselves.
We enjoyed their wedding very much and took lots of photos during the party session. We hope this memory will last forever for their family.
We wish them an everlasting wonderful married life!

The Indoor Vs. Outdoor Wedding Reception Debate: Pros and Cons
Tumblr media
Dreamy wedding receptions or dreamy soirées are filled with joyous laughter, dance, and delectable delights, where love and food weave enchanting tales.
Planning a wedding reception is like orchestrating a symphony of love, and one of the key decisions that can make or break the harmony is choosing between an indoor or outdoor wedding reception.
In this exploration of the eternal debate, we’ll dive into the pros and cons, shedding light on the intricacies that define the perfect celebration and how Asian wedding services in London make an impact on your special day.
So, come with us on this beautiful yet decisive journey, hand in hand with the whispers of the wind or the shelter of a magnificent hall.
Love’s Dilemma: Epic Debate Between Indoor Elegance and Outdoor Romance in Wedding Reception Sagas
In the lively saga of weddings, opinions swirl around like confetti. For indoor receptions, believers cherish the controlled charm, shielded from unpredictable elements. Walls become a canvas for elegant decor, creating a cocoon of intimacy.
Outdoors, enthusiasts revel in nature’s theatre, enchanted by picturesque backdrops. They view open skies as the ultimate venue, where love intertwines with the elements. Regardless of preference, each holds a fervent belief – be it the sheltered elegance of indoors or the untamed beauty of the great outdoors, both are stages for unforgettable love stories.
Enough anticipation, let’s not keep you waiting any longer. Let’s dive in and discover which option takes the crown.
The Great Indoors: Unveiling the Elegance
Step into the embrace of great indoor receptions, where elegance unveils its enchanting dance. Walls become whispers of refined tales, a canvas awaiting your love story. Shielded from nature’s caprice, it’s a sanctuary of controlled charm, an intimate cocoon where weddings blossom into timeless tales of grace and sophistication.
Here are some pros and cons of indoor wedding receptions for you-
Pros:
Weather Immunity: The unpredictability of weather can cast a shadow on outdoor weddings. Indoors, you are shielded from the whims of Mother Nature, ensuring a flawless celebration, irrespective of the season.
Décor Delight: Indoor venues provide a blank canvas for your creativity to run wild. Transform the space into a fairytale wonderland or a chic urban oasis, all under a controlled environment.
Audiovisual Extravaganza: With the confines of walls, sound and visuals reach their zenith. Your choice of entertainment, speeches, and even the emotional exchange of vows can be amplified to create an immersive experience.
Cons:
Space Constraints: The grandeur of indoor venues sometimes comes at the cost of limited space. Guest lists might need to be trimmed down, restricting the number of loved ones who can witness your special day.
Higher Cost: The exclusivity and amenities of an indoor venue often translate to a higher price tag. Every extra square foot adds to the bill, and that luxurious ballroom might dent your budget.
Under the Open Sky: Embracing the Outdoors
Where vows meet the breeze and laughter dances with the leaves, outdoor weddings unfold tales under the open sky. Nature becomes the canvas, and love, the masterpiece. Embracing the outdoors is not just a choice, it’s a poetic celebration where every moment is kissed by the sun and whispered to by the wind.
Let’s find out some of the pros and cons of outdoor wedding receptions-
Pros:
Natural Splendour: The allure of an outdoor wedding reception lies in the breathtaking backdrop of nature. Be it a garden, beach, or vineyard, the beauty of the surroundings becomes an integral part of your celebration.
Ample Space for Creativity: With the sky as your ceiling, there’s no limit to what you can create. From whimsical arches to fairy lights dancing in the breeze, outdoor weddings offer a canvas that is as vast as the horizon.
Photography Paradise: Outdoor weddings are a photographer’s dream. Natural light, picturesque landscapes, and the genuine smiles of guests create a visual narrative that is hard to replicate indoors.
Cons:
Weather Woes: The very factor that adds charm to outdoor weddings can also be their Achilles’ heel. A sudden rain shower or gusty winds can turn your dream day into a logistical nightmare.
Technical Tussles: Outdoor venues might lack the infrastructure of indoor spaces. This could lead to challenges in setting up sound systems, proper lighting, or even arranging comfortable seating for guests.
Choosing the Right Venue for You: The London Connection
In the heart of the bustling city, where cultural richness meets modern elegance, London stands as a beacon for couples seeking the perfect setting for their wedding. Asian wedding services in London cater to a diverse range of preferences, offering bespoke experiences that seamlessly blend tradition with contemporary flair.
When it comes to the culinary aspect, Indian wedding caterers in London and Gujarati wedding caterers in London bring a feast of flavours to your table, ensuring your guests embark on a gastronomic journey that mirrors the diversity of your love.
Crafting Your Everlasting Memory
As the indoor vs. outdoor wedding reception debate unfolds, it’s essential to reflect on your vision for the day. Do you envision an intimate affair cocooned in the opulence of four walls, or does the idea of saying “I do” beneath the open sky ignite a spark within? Ultimately, the decision rests on what resonates with you as a couple.
In the heart of London, where the charm of tradition meets the allure of modernity, the choice becomes even more enchanting. With Asian wedding services, Indian wedding caterers, and Gujarati wedding caterers in London, your dream celebration is just a heartbeat away, ready to be woven into the rich tapestry of the city’s cultural mosaic.
Take the Leap: Your Love, Your Choice
In the orchestration of love, every choice is a unique note, creating a melody that resonates with your soul. Whether you prefer the elegance of an indoor haven or the natural allure of an outdoor sanctuary, let your decision echo through the years. Short Takes at LYIFF: The North has a new film festival, and it's awesome
Tumblr media
This weekend indie cinema got its rightful moment in the spotlight, as the Lytham International Film Festival took over the iconic Lowther Pavilion. With features, shorts, and curated strands from festival partners - including our old mates at Beyond the Bar programming the 'After Dark' strand - this is a festival rooted in its Northern roots, with a view to going global. So what better way to showcase the best bits than with a return to the Short world of things?
Across the weekend members of the TheJackSmit.com family seen a lot of shorts, and as ever, we're gonna showcase the best ones here on the blog - because you never know how a career might take off from out of nowhere. It was difficult to narrow it down to just a few, but these were the ones which stood out.
JACK'S TOP 3 SHORTS FROM LYIFF
DARWIN'S FOX
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS: Driven by the urge to prove the existence of an extinct creature, a father and his son head off into the wilderness. But soon the search becomes much more personal, when the son suddenly vanishes without a trace.
The Germans like doing the basics right - and this short from Ben Scharf does just that. In half an hour it has the makings of a feature, with some well thought out cinematography and writing. Importantly this short features young talent Cooper Dillon- who will be next seen in Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
MIDNIGHT RIDE
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS: A drug-dealing, Italian delivery rider resorts to robbing a South London burrito joint after his bike and drugs are stolen, little knowing he might be the one taken for a ride all along.
This was a neat short from Alessandro Farratini Pojani (who has shadowed names like Pete Czernin and Graham Broadbent behind the scenes), that has a distinctly British vibe but subverts the idea of a drug dealer trying to get his life back on track... by adding everyone's favourite food delivery service into the mix as he has the unluckiest night of his life. It gets the look and feel pretty much spot on.
A LITTLE GLASS OF RUM
youtube
SYNOPSIS: After grieving over the murder of his wife and son, prison guard Stan Ailor dines with the killer, Kenneth for his last meal. The two converse about the murders which leads Stan to getting the revenge he's been longing for.
LYIFF has its roots in the education sector - so to see Point Park University graduates make a short like this, on a similar kind of budget to UK students is nothing short of extraordinary. Going back in time to the 70s, what Carah Chafin did with writer/director of photography Lauren Keller's script, added in with the authenticity of the locations and those performances.... this is a cracker.
MENDO'S CAROUSEL
youtube
SYNOPSIS: After the death of her father, a troubled woman robs a dry-cleaning shop to make ends meet, but when the owner finds out, a secret from their past forces her to choose between doing what is right or following in the footsteps of her father.
Reading the EPK for this short, this is quite a personal film about honesty for its writer/director David Michael Maurer - and in 12 minutes it tells an incredibly powerful story. It was a worthy way to close the first session of shorts on day 1, and it is definitely making waves on the festival circuit.
Tumblr media
As well as the main festival selection, partners Director's Notes brought some of their featured shorts to LYIFF, and as much as we want to talk about things like crazy American dark comedy The Flute, BAFTA nominated short Stuffed and student effort Heart Failure... they are a bit too 18 certificate to be showcased here on the blog. But ultimately the filmmakers enjoyed a Northern welcome, the audiences lapped up each and every film, and the Q&As hosted throughout the weekend (hosted by LYIFF's festival director Ed Greenberg) got a lot of discussion going.
Filmmakers, listen up - you can be part of it next year
The 2024 Lytham International Film Festival is on August 23rd-25th - and applications for next year have just opened on FilmFreeway.

Food has always been my passion. I spent many years working in restaurants, I love to cook for friends, and I love to grow the food that I cook for them. As such, I have been fortunate to spend the last twenty years combining my love of food with my love of storytelling. I have worked with many local and international publishers, illustrating a multitude of books and magazines, and have shot consistently for design and advertising. There is nothing I relish more than to pack my camera bag, as eager to travel to the studio to shoot a still life as I am to be on location: capturing the people, places and processes that surround food; in a winery during vintage, in a restaurant, on a fishing boat, in a cheese factory or on a farm.

Brand Instagram Research
Looking into current brands that a part of the food and hospitality service i found this very unique and quirky business called Wahaca. They are an street food restaurant that are inspired but the vibrant markets of mexico.
Their style is very bright and colourful, as well as adding in more handwritten and drawn elements. They include a wide variety of user generated content as well as top tips which helps to increase consumer interactions, such as likes and saving of the posts. Their photography is clear, professional and consistent throughout the whole page. The overall aesthetic and look of the instagram profile is consistent which helps reinforce the brand identity and make it more recognisable.
Due to the brand taking influence from the busy Mexico markets i believe we could take influence from their style due to the fact that our brand is inspired by the busy life of people who live in London. The use of colour helps to create an exciting and playful appearance. the font used is clear however the implementation of hand-written elements keeps it authentic and personal.

Wedding Photography and Videography Service in Brentford, West London, England
We have provided wedding photography and videography service for an intimate couple in West London, England. Their church wedding ceremony was hold at St John's Church, Southall, before their wedding banquet in Holiday Inn - Brentford Lock.
http://www.foreverlovewedding.com/
Although the groom comes from Indian heritage, the bride is British and they both agreed to have classical church ceremony and western style banquet (with delicious Indian and British food served). This wedding was our second time meeting this couple, as we have done an engagement photo and video shoot with with them not long before their wedding (Feel free to take a look at their engagement photos and videos on our website and Facebook pages as well.)
We learned their love story actually started when they were in the same university in Birmingham. The bride grew up in Brentford area, and used to attend Sunday service in the Southall church, where her grandparents and parents get married.
After their church ceremony finished we separated. One of us followed the guests on a double decker bus, and photograph and filmed the trip. Another person from the team went for the romantic photo and video shoot with the couple in a park nearby.
As it is a bigger wedding, we spent more than 45mins to get the group photos done. It is still doable. The largest wedding we been to has around 600 guests. We found that it is almost impossible to have everyone photographed with the newlywed while the couple would like to enjoy the event with guests. With this in mind, we are launching new offerings and tweak the current offerings for coming big weddings.
We wish them have a wonderful married life forever!
Feel free to take a look at their more photos and videos on our website, Facebook & Vimeo pages.
