IT'S NOT ABOUT THE HICKEY

This post was triggered by an anon moving around in these spaces trying to explain away the hickey/bite moment as something trivial. I will save my thoughts on the hickey for the end of this post.

First of all, to that anon- Get off your high horse. Not being a shipper doesn't make you superior. You are probably one of those cringey people cancelling queer armies on tw!tter these days. Now readers, sip your drink as you read this short think piece-

OT7 Captains in the fandom bubble:-

I really don't get the superiority complex of so called OT7s who love to live inside this cute little bubble they have created for themselves or as they call it nowadays:- " a curated tl". Cancelling people everyday and actually driving people away from the fandom. Every bio says "multis, solos, shippers dni". What are you afraid of? Little pixels? I have personally followed solo fbs of all members and boy the things I have found! They can get extreme at times, but it takes 2 minutes to fact-check their claims and draw your own conclusion.

I follow wholesome ship pages too, they are a great way to not miss out cute moments between various duos. If you are blocking them out, you'll be swept into whatever the OT7 decide the important interactions are. 🤷

Have y'all watched 'The Social Dilemma' on Netflix? I would actually want all bts fans to give it a watch. A very prominent tech figure admitted that she follows a good number of Tw!tter accounts that disagree with her to ensure that she gets to see all sides and all opinions. When you deliberately 'curate' a timeline to feed only your opinions, to make a 'safe' space that doesn't trigger you, without letting new thoughts penetrate it..THAT! That's the beginning of a cult.

Army is not a cult for defending BTS or for calling out billboard and other big authorities, but army is indeed a cult with the way they move against people within the fandom.

I said what I said.

With a curated 'OT7 captain' timeline, you start internalising things about the artists that the people you follow want to believe:-

1. All true army are OT7 and non shippers. 💫💫

Sure some of them are. But biases exist for a reason, right? If you think people don't run their bias's playlist more than the other 6, you are so deluded. Spotify wrapped'23 was a prime example. With the solo era, the rise of solo fanbases was unavoidable.

2. Your favourites are spotless, impeccable people. 💌💌💌

They are so not. They date, they make mistakes, they hurt people (like we all do). Heck, they might even offend certain groups of people, unknowingly or knowingly. Being ignorant is also a flaw.

3. Everything they say on camera is true.🙊🙊🙊

Everything they say on camera is what they want you to know. As Park Jimin of BTS, as Kim Namjoon of BTS and so on. And yes, your perception of them should be built based on their words alone, but it doesn't mean that you purposefully stay blind in a way that serves your personal projections onto the members. As Jimin once said " please take our words as they are"(Festa 2022). Read between the lines, and you get- "please do not make assumptions about us, please do not project past or future narratives onto us." No matter how much it makes BTS look like a saint, DO NOT paint them as perfect human beings just because they are your idols.

Once you get into the fandom bubble, you start rejecting all opinions that threaten to puncture that perfect bubble. In that process, you end up never getting to know about how some member promotions were horribly managed, how company delayed certain stuff, the obvious company agenda and different business strategies for different members. It's not about victimising members, but calling out the company when they make obvious mistakes. You do not see when hate against a particular member gets aggravated to the point it affects streams and sales.

And musical preference? The way the fandom just collectively decided that if you hate any song except 'ON ft Sia", you are basically an anti. I have no words.. I'll come out and say: I don't like DNA. SORRY JIMIN. Sure it's a great concert song, or maybe at a party, but it's never making it to my down-time personal playlists. Cancel me?

Top Social Artist?

This is my personal opinion. BTS having a huge presence on social media is both a boon and a curse. While it ensures that new fans are made everyday, the bts social media presence is an uncontrolled monster right now. Millions of insta, YT channels- most of them spreading a superficial image of BTS. It's for this reason, there are so many 'fans' out there who just love BTS for the few members and their visuals. I can guarantee you that they don't even know how streaming works, but they'll be sure to have an insta name like "mrs.jeon jungkook". If you made it to this part, I don't need to tell you how certain ships inducted their shippers through these very channels, spreading misinfo about the group dynamics and a completely manipulated idea of the boys, as if it's not real life, but some shitty bl drama.

While the company is obviously doing nothing about this mess, it is YOUR duty to focus on what's important as a fan and participate in projects that plan to counteract this mess. ( Of course only if you have time)

So..what does the hickey have to do with all this?

When you finally grow out of your perfect pure breed OT7 agenda, who considers this group of men a picture perfect family who can do no sin, you'll be ready to view the hickey/bite mark as a normal functioning member of the society who's in touch with reality.

Let's say the hickey/bite does not actually mean anything intimate in a romantic sense. Sure. Even I think it was probably not an exclusively romantic thing. And this is coming from someone who ships them, but I do not see them as 2 people who are dating each other (because I don't claim to know their personal lives).

An older person biting the neck of a younger person long enough to leave a mark is NOT A NORMAL LEVEL of skinship. For friends, for family, for brothers. And this goes for Korea as well as at a global level. Not only k-jikookers but also k-armies had raised eyebrows when that happened. If you didn't raise your eyebrow at this, you need to go out more, have a social life, hang out with long term friends, idk.

But I'm sure if it was a man and a woman, you would have already declared that they are f@cking.

If you have observed jikook through the years, they have had an abnormal level of skinship that even surpasses skinship within their own group. Reminds me of the Butter photoshoot behind, where JK's hands so naturally slid under JM's crop top, like it was a usual thing. Now if one of them reacted differently or in a goofy way, I'd still brush it under the rug. But what had me scratching my head was the indifference. How close do 2 people have to be, for someone to SEARCH for familiar skin to touch?! Let's not forget how JK always touches JM's neck like a habit, massaging, holding, or just caressing, usually a little inside the collar.

If you don't at the very least, acknowledge that it's an abnormally high level of skinship, and that jikook are at the very least, a highly interdependent, symbiotic, close, 2 souls-1 body entity, the closest duo in bangtan..then you are the delulu here. 🫵

I would advice such anons to stop visiting shipping spaces if you are bringing nothing to the table. (As I always say, opposing views are always welcome as long as you bring receipts and not hate). Maybe spend some time talking to real life people, couples, friends, you know?

ok so the slovenian government announced today it will participate in the ICJ proceedings against israeli occupation of gaza and the west bank, which is based on a december 2022 UN resolution and is thus separate from the SA genocide case {wiki page}

there have been calls for slovenia to intervene in the genocide case too, to which the minister of foreign affairs has said that "Slovenia supports the proceedings regarding the violations of the Genocide Convention both in the case of Ukraine and Palestine ...", but that it is not yet possible to intervene as the court has to first decide whether it has jurisdiction over the case or not (her statement of support is also not an official position of the country afaict) {x}. she said that the decision will be made at the governnent level {x} (i.e. she evaded the question, but the fact the she hasn't dismissed it is positive, and both the pm and the president as a rule follow her lead, not the other way around; not to mention that the left party, a coalition member, has been very vocal about how slovenia is not doing enough, how we should recognize the state of palestine, apply the bds measures etc., so that's a force pushing in that direction as well). the ambassador to the UN security council said that slovenia regards the case "with great interest" {x}

considering the fairly consistent discourse of slovenian foreign policy on the israel-palestine conflict and especially the expressed need for principled and consistent political positioning during the slovenian mandate in the UN security council, i am moderatly optimistic that it might actually intervene in the case

fajon can be quite frustrating, because you really have to comb through what she's saying to find anything of substance, but i have been surprised at times by her discourse in the past few months, for example when she said that if not the EU as a whole, then a smaller group of like-minded countries within the EU could jointly recognize the state of palestine "when the time is right" (– slovenian politicians have been waiting for the right time to recognize palestine for literally a decade, but in this context specifically fajon has said that the condition for that to happen is permanent ceasefire) {x}, or when she explitictly designated the attacks on schools and hospitals and critical infrastructure as severe violations of international humanitarian law – apparently she appeared on CNN a few days ago where she said that Israel was "definitely" in the breach of international humanitarian law {fb link to the video} {x}, which reportedly made israel angry, but she'd already said the same thing in the UN security council chambers a month ago {x}, so that wasn't new for them and she'd been saying that since november at least {x}. i was also really positively surprised when in the context of the exchange of hostages she designated the palestinian prisoners as political prisoners {x} (only in a podcast, but still)

ofc this is still far from ideal, much more decisive measures would be needed (cf. what the left party wants above) and they'd be more effective too, imho, but this is honestly more than i expected from a politician who, idk – i suspect! – wants to present our country as a potential mediator in the conflict and thus doesn't want to step on israel's toes too much, or at least wants to keep the image of a "reliable partner" with regards to the us, still, while going as far as possible in (what she thinks might be) toeing the line

I usually post Lolibrary content on the site's facebook page, and not my personal Tumblr, but this is a little more personal. This is my 5,000th Lolibrary entry. Lolibrary celebrated it's 13th birthday last month, and as of right this second we have 84,951 published entries.

I did the math a couple days ago for a post on the FB or twitter, and for lolibrary as a whole, it comes out to something wild like 17 entries per day. And that is 'counting' the fairly long time around 2018 when we couldn't make entries at all.

I'm not the biggest contributor to lolibrary. That is Onlyeasy, who entered more than 1/5th of the content on lolibrary and recently has retired from being an active senior lolibrarian. Followed by our late founder, Amethystcitrine. Amy entered more than 1/10th of the content currently on lolibrary. Lately, I was thinking 'I should record some videos on how to add measurements' because that seems to trip up a lot of new contributors. And, I keep thinking about the videos she made, which makes me really miss being able to talk to her about lolibrary.

The 3rd biggest contributor to lolibrary is theladymienshao (9.22%) who currently enters Baby/Pirates, and then Sucre-Dolls (6.94%) who enters Angelic Pretty. I am so impressed by the constant updates of the new items, because I've never been able to do that.

The person with the next most entries is azuki-mikan (pita-tenshi), again, absolutely fantastic, azuki-mikan has made 7.3% of the entries.

And then me, I'm 6th with 5.88% of the entries. So, I'm definitely not the most active when it comes to entering items. I do some other things with lolibrary, like I make most of the Facebook and Twitter posts (which is why they are very inconsistent). I also count up when an indie brand goes over the minimum threshold for tag, and the minimum threshold for being promoted to a brand, and then recently I've been manually moving the entries across for those too. I also did a lot of the manual checking on the shoe entries when we imported those in recently, and like all the other senior lolibrarians who are active, I do some of the pending submission approvals. And of course, I do some degree of book research & scanning with my magazine & catalog collection, some degree of item identification, etc. I also spend a lot of my time adding images to existing partial listings to flesh them out. But there are other people who do other tasks that aren't entering items too. Like Sage-Blossom who does a ton of corrections & tag clean up work, for example. And our development team who do the coding, and one of our other admins who handles all of the legal and financial pieces so we can pay our bills and maintain our status as a non-profit. And then there are a lot more very active contributors too! I think one of my favorite things about lolibrary is that it is a community project and it is made up of lots of people doing lots of different things. I think also that's one of the reasons that lolibrary has had the longevity it has had. And through it, I've met a lot of wonderful people who I absolutely think the world of. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm very glad that lolibrary exists, and I hope it continues on for many years to come. <3

On 24 May 2014, the National Report published an article positing that President Obama had ordered the removal of the words 'In God We Trust' (the U.S. national motto) from all U.S. currency by 1 July 2014:

Beginning July 1st the Federal Reserve along with the United States Department of the Treasury will begin printing all currency, which includes all notes and coins, without the words 'In God We Trust'. This modification comes under strict orders from President Barack Obama and his administration.

Obama held a press conference this morning to explain the impending change and to answer questions.

"As our country grows and changes, so must our money," Obama said. "There is [sic] now too many individuals living in this great nation of ours that do not worship the same God as most of us. In fact some folks don't believe in a God at all. This currency adjustment is truly change we can believe in."

By the following day, links and excerpts referencing this article were being circulated via social media, with many of those who encountered the item mistaking it for a genuine news article. However, the article was just a bit of fiction from the National Report, a web site whose stock in trade is publishing outrage-provoking fake news stories such as "President Obama Reported Sedated Following Emotional Breakdown," City in Michigan First to Fully Implement Sharia Law," and "Multiple Wyoming School Districts Implant RFID Chip Technology in Students Without Parental Consent."

In fact, legislation passed in 1955 makes the appearance of the motto "In God We Trust" mandatory on all coins and paper currency issued by the United States. That requirement cannot be unilaterally overturned by the President; Congress would have to specifically pass a bill rescinding the previous legislation in order for the change described here (i.e., the removal of the U.S. motto) to take effect.

(Although various lawsuits over the years have challenged the appearance of "In God We Trust" on U.S. money as a violation of the First Amendment's Establishment Clause, so far all such lawsuits have been rejected by federal courts.)

A petition posted on the official White House web site that urges the Obama administration to "Keep The Words 'IN GOD WE TRUST' on All American Currency" was linked from within the National Report article; that petition was simply a ruse created by the author of the National Report piece himself to lend an air of verisimilitude to his fictional article.

The Truth:

A fake news website is behind the false report that President Obama has ordered “under God” to be removed from the government property and the Pledge of Allegiance.

The fake news website, TDAlliance.com, reported on January 31, 2016, that President Obama had taken with “a flurry of executive actions.” The report, which appears under the headline, “Obama Orders Phrase ‘Under God’ to be Banned on all Government Property,” continues:

This order will help “ensure religious diversity” the President said in a press release Saturday.

“The separation of church and state outlined in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution is an important founding principle of our nation. Our nation’s Bill of Rights guarantees not only that the government cannot establish an official religion, but also guarantees citizens’ rights to practice the religion of their choosing or no religion at all.” White House spokesman Josh Earnest told Fox News.

That report is false. And TDAlliance.com is not affiliated with Fox News. “Fox News The FB Page” appears on the website’s masthead, along with Fox News logos.

In reality, The Obama administration has actually defended the government’s use of “under God.” The White House issued a formal response to a petition to remove the phrase from the Pledge of Allegiance in 2011. In response to the petition, which generated more than 20,000 signatures, White House spokesperson Joshua DuBois wrote:

The separation of church and state outlined in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution is an important founding principle of our nation. Our nation’s Bill of Rights guarantees not only that the government cannot establish an official religion, but also guarantees citizens’ rights to practice the religion of their choosing or no religion at all.

Don't ask if you don't want to know.

My neighbor is a "Proper Christian lady," and a HUGE busybody.  She was my "friend" on FB (and had been for years) because she is also the president of our HOA, and shares info on her page which I liked having access to.  

A couple of years ago I was asked to moderate a relatively large Facebook group, so I changed my FB name from my legal name to first name middle name. (Sally Jo as opposed to Sally Jo Smith.)  

Well, PCL saw me at the park not too long after and asked why I'd changed my FB name. I didn't give her an answer. She asked me no less than four times over the following weeks, finally cornering me at the grocery store saying "Well?!?! Are you ever going to tell me why you changed your Facebook name?"  

 I'd had enough. So I flatly said "I joined a swinger's group, and I've started meeting people on FB for no strings attached adult fun. I was concerned about someone learning my identity and stalking me, so I decided to remove my last name for security."  

She blushed a color I'd never seen before and just walked away.  It was glorious, and a week later I noticed we were no longer FB friends.

Self-promotion Saturday

Haha, I'ma call this self-promotion because this little thing that's not a story and not quite a poem has been overlooked on AO3 and didn't get any love on the poetry page I belong to on FB (buncha strait-laced older Christians on there, methinks). I thought this might be a better place to share it; there might be more people who can relate here.

I wrote this "prayer" for Miranja as a way to try to explain her passion for so many people (mostly followers). I also wrote it before I wrote the part of DwD where she takes Talvas to Skyrim and falls more and more in love with him. And of course, this was toward the beginning of Miranja's adventures, when she was still impulsive and naive and not as wise.

See if you can guess who she's talking about. (Obviously, those who have read DwD will have an advantage...)

How can I convince him to simply hold out the palm of his hand and know that I will always fly back to him, that his soul is the home for my soul?

Lady Mara, please work your loving magic in his heart and show him the true depth of my love for him. Let him know that his is the star in the heavens that guides my path, and that path will ever lead to him as long as we both draw breath. Let him know that my life would have an unfillable void without him. Let it be enough for him.

Am I the only who feels Fire and Blood and the entire Dance Eras does not mesh with the continuity of ASOIAF? Personally I think this era and what followed after really show how weak George is in World building especially World Building in regards to a historical setting.

George saying that Succession in the middle ages were murky and I was like? Succession was based on male promigenture and if it went outside of that...straight up war.

Also the houses that supported Rhaenyra during the war made no sense. I think it was a creative choice to give her allies outside the Arryns and the Velaryons because ain't no way in hell these traditional, very patriarchal houses are following her.

Eg. The Starks who had their own succession crisis a few years after the dance. Cregan was up in Winterfell playing Henry VIII trying to have sons. Sons who will eventually steal the rightful claim of his granddaughter.

And don't let me start on the Riverlands and the respawning machine that they have in the Riverrun 🥴. George did a D&D logic there for that one.

And let me not get into the Blackfyre Rebellion and why majority Green houses supported Daemon. It would have been an interesting pipeline if the Green supporters of supporting the legitimate heir to supporting the legitimate heir illegitimate descendant.

It would have been the perfect irony that fit into the ASOIAF world.

Hi there, thank you for your kind comment. It's fun to ramble and get it out of my system, I'm glad you find it entertaining!

I have my issues with FB, but I wouldn't be so scathing in my criticism. Worldbuilding is hard AF, probably one of the hardest things for an author to do, and George has already created such a vast & varied world. Anyway, we're all here running our mouths bc we love this fictional world in the first place.

Fire and Blood is just that, though - Targaryen backstory. He's working BACKWARDS in time to flesh out the history of Westeros and he has to cram everything into the timeline he already established for himself in the main series. So he has 283 years of Targaryen rule to fit all his ideas in - no more, no less. He's gonna have to compromise on some stuff. These are not his main characters, he's not gonna put as much thought into them as his POVs.

That's why I suspect there are so many child brides, so many badass teenage warriors (lol), so many women dying off-page or disappearing from the narrative. He needs to make new people out of the old ones to advance the story, but he has to kill the mother, because then he can't explain why her children are so effed up or how they can get away with so much shit if their mum is still living with them in the Red Keep.

With the Dance, I think he started with the idea of rehashing The Anarchy and turning this into an opportunity to insert a really cool morally ambiguous sexy dark prince. But then he has to change the events to fit around his already-designated fave instead of allowing the story to grow organically and it kind of shows.

The problem with the Dance is that there are already endgames set in stone: he HAS to purge nearly all Targaryens quickly bc at this point they get too many and he HAS to kill all of the dragons no matter what (enter storming of the dragonpit and Syrax's death scene). Daenaerys HAS to be a candidate for the "first ruling queen of Westeros", so we can't have Queen Rhaenyra in the past. She has to fail somehow. Stannis tells us she is an usurper, so George doesn't give her a real claim, he makes Aegon her brother, which is ridiculous.

Daemon's death scene is probably set in stone as well structurally-speaking, bc it's very heavy metal & Daemon also benefits from a cool foil in Aemond. But to get there, he has to turn the war into the Looney Tunes - the military strategies don't make any goddamn sense, he pulls out entire armies out of his arse, Rhaenyra has illogical allies. When he realises he must have overpowered the blacks, he invents stupid excuses - oh, Cregan just has to wait for the harvest, guys, but he is totally coming, and the Lads army is a thing now, they're just late.

And within all of this, the Daemon favouritism stands out and feels undeserving - even though events seem to happen at random and via deus-ex-machina, somehow ALL of HIS children live through this chaotic mess and BOTH OF HIS sons inherit the throne.

29f here  hi there, I started to "officially" date my boyfriend bout a year ago. Im really happy with him. I adore him, and our relationship is amazing.  I had never been in a commited relationship before, and there is a small thing that has been bothering me lately. I m not a jealous at all, I have never been like this, yet I feel worried about him and his exgf. Everything is great and he is like my bestfriend. BUT this lady has messaged him twice.1st saying he saw us together at the beach he didnt answer. 2nd to tell him she was over him and that she was dating sb el se. And he answered hope u r doing well ... like this bothered me ... cos a guy that i was seeing in the past also messaged me and i was like mm yeah idc ... anything else?... bc i genuinely dont care. ...We have a fb Page of a bussines we started together.  The ex often watches stories reels and Leaves reacts here and there but doesnt follow said Page. She blocked a friend of mine bc she thinks she is the actual gf... she doesnt even Know it is me ... but like this shit is toxic. And I now DO belive what he told me about them not being together and him lettting her stay out of pity, bc he often allows ppl to take advantage of him and doesnt set boundaries. This worries me bc im scared she might try sth w him and he May accept bc of this.it also fills me w doubts about HIM having moved on from her. Idk how to approach this wo sounding crazy. I already told him about the fb thing and her blocking my friend and he just says ah yeah .but i dont know how to tell him about my concerns. Hope you could help me. I feel very anxious and like this could be a thing that could ruin the relationship and trust

Hi there. It's understandable that you feel anxious since it seems to be a messy situation. It does not seem like a healthy relationship to me :c

It seems to me that a lot of focus has been put on him and his ex but not you. Have you asked yourself what you want from the relationship and from him? Are you happy being in this relationship/ situation?

As an adult, I think your bf needs to take accountability as he continues letting things happen (even if he no longer has feelings for her). If you are not happy with how things are going, perhaps it's best to find a time when you and him are both calm to have a face-to-face convo

You may approach the conversation by stating your observations and feelings without any criticism or judgment (This link about four components to the Nonviolent Communication (NVC) model, may help). Tell him calmly how the situation (him letting his exgf take advantage of him) makes you feel uncomfortable and you would like to see if boundaries can be put up.

I can also feel that you feel insecure about this relationship as you worried that she may steal him away. Trust and honesty are important qualities of a healthy romantic relationship. Currently, it seems to me that you do not feel secure about your place in the relationship and his behaviours. Apart from talking to him regarding the situation, perhaps try putting the focus back on yourself? Engage in your hobbies, hang out with friends and family or join a new community? When you focus on yourself more, you will have less time to worry about him. You are loved regardless of his feelings for you. You are valued no matter how he treats you. <3

There is also no certain way to know if he/ she was lying. You can only do what's best for you in this situation. Please always take care of yourself first!

Some I've unfollowed I'm actually sad about sometimes.

3 just today too. Its like no ooo ooo plz don't do that. Well shit. I mean there's been plenty of times when it was me that needed blocked or unfollowed. I been thru some stuff past few years and the me from 2017 is different from who I am today. And in the coming years, yes I said years, I will no doubt change again as I navigate this end of life curse to its destination. So sometimes I know am willing to overlook some things that people do on here. I've done my own share of acting out online. we have to leave space for people to evolve and to grow. I try to avoid snap judgements because I certainly know how they feel. I also know how it feels to be buried in a drug induced haze with my body being carved up left and right and to lash out. Those are things I learned right here on tumblr. com. throwing cops off cliffs and stuff. Yeah I was royally stoned and sick and just plain angry. I have indeed bubbled over at times. So I try to be understanding of others when it happens to them. Then there are just things you can't overstep. Or maybe I can't have the nazis and the guns and the ski masks and the maga horseshit and the hostility on my own dash for my own mental health. But I don't need to explain that to anyone. I know what's in my heart. I'm on here just like all of us. Yes I have a fb. But I hardly post there because the same reason we all don't. Listen, I have 300+ friends over there. Guess how many have posted about Palestine? 2. 2 out of 300+. Why? Fear. Just like everything now. I've always been able to be honest here. I'm going to always continue that. but please let's do our best to not let Tumblr go the way of FB and Twitter and the climate of fear. Fear is a fascist tool. We have to be better.

Another thing about me. I just can not scroll past if I see someone in distress. Again, I know too well how that feels. To feel so alone and want to die and reaching out and what? No one answers? As if I didn't read it? So yes maybe I follow you because of art or music or other interest, I have so many, and I will pop in and talk to you. Why? Because you asked me to. You think you didn't but you were reaching. And I will take your hand, and that's anybody. I don't do that shit for cred or whatever trust me there is no fucking amount of cred in this world to make me shine and I could care less. I am talky. Yes I am an old fucked up man polluting the sewer in which we find ourselves swimming. Maybe at some point I rubbed you the wrong way. That's life. It is what it fucking is. I daresay there are few who present an honest front like me and I certainly do not advocate it. But that's me. So take it or leave it. I can't pretend to be anyone else than who I am. Not anymore. Writing a book of my life how many pages on which do you think I will be the asshole? The villain? Do you think I will paint a rosy picture of me? The whole point of writing that is to express how far I have come. I'm still going. Its not over. But even I'm aghast sometimes when I think of how far I have come.

Yesterday my daughter asked me how old I feel inside. She's at that point where you are like am I adulting correctly? Shouldn't I feel mature and old. I told her no. I still feel the same as I did at 17. Sure my body is broke. I struggle to walk. Sometimes I struggle just to sit. Truly Tumblr has helped me thru as my hours of reblogging show, the mind seeks to escape pain and the boredom that comes. But my mind inside is still me. I'm alive in here. You will know too someday, what its like to watch children play and your soul runs after them because the body no longer can. Tonite I said to artemesia, as we went outside in the weird stillness after the rain, this is what its all about. Almost 60 but here we are marveling at the sky at 2:30am after watching a horror movie and cooking grilled cheese. Shhh don't wake the kids. We are the kids.

So there I go again trying to explain myself when i really I don't have to. And I will still be commenting when I really don't have to. I will extend myself to you when I don't really have to. And maybe those are things we all need to work on, even though we really don't have to.

Because sometimes its just good to do those things.

Is the Book launch Dead? If so… Now What?

So back in 2021, full lockdown, I released a nonfiction with Simon&Schuster (it’s here if you like history of science).

It was covid. But it’s more than covid; unless you are a REALLY big name, you aren’t getting a book tour. Instead, you might do some virtual events. I did. And I realized how incredibly boring most author events can be for the audience. A talking head. No interaction. That’s what used to happen at the book signing desk. For most authors and readers, those days are gone. But I *wanted* to interact… I missed book clubs and chatting around signing tables.

So I developed a twice monthly YouTube show that’s a bit like the muppet show meets Addams family meets book club. Claymation, custom book cocktails, skits, live music, and an actual book club chat with both the authors (!) and members (who actually read the books). I called it the PECULIAR BOOK CLUB.

It’s been slow growing, but we have 10k FB followers, 2500 free group members, and a committed set of about 75 people who religiously follow and support the show through paid membership. Oh. And we also have a podcast that turns all video content into audio AS WELL AS offering book launch shows and our ‘peculiar at the movies’ series.

[Book Review] The Prayer: Its Effect in Increasing Eeman and Purifying The Soul by Shaykh Husayn Al-Awaayishah

■ Life fascinates us with its unknown twists and turns. Which may cause us to lose focus and aching with disillusionment and suffering. Let's liberate our hearts from worries, refine our Prayer(Salah) and elevate our faith(Eeman).

The author illustrates the importance and benefits of Salah with ample references from the Quran and Sunnah. He encourages us to reflect and compare our Salah with that of the Prophet (SAW) and his Companions (RA). Not only discusses the practices on an individual level, but he also highlights the functions of the society and family institutions in boosting our eeman as a Muslim and collectively as the Ummah.

■ In only about 112 pages, he conveyed the knowledge(Deen) without undermining common confusions/misunderstandings on cultural appropriations. It’s amazing how clear his words are. His writings are stern yet uplifting. He empathises, clarifies and reminds things with care and sincerity. I also appreciate the provided footnotes and glossary that validate the sources.

■ How should we turn, and widen our perspectives and attitudes towards the ideas/obligations? We must do self-reflections and embrace entirely these three gems; intentions, humility and attentiveness. Then only we taste the sweetness in following the Sunnah, i. e. the correct ways to worship.

● Frequently, we find ourselves engulfed in the aftermath of our mistakes, be they wrong choices or unwise words spoken. To move forward and renew our eeman is to let go of our past. Acknowledge our shortcomings/wrongdoings, learn from them and move on. ● We need to cleanse our hearts. Begin with a genuine and earnest repentance, beseeching Allah (SWT) for forgiveness and His mercy. Make a firm commitment for a fresh start. ● The Quran strengthens our souls, infusing them with elevated faith. Dedicate extra effort to recite, explore the tafseer or learn the Arabic language to fully appreciate the Quran's eloquence, beauty, and miraculous nature. ● The Elixir of Life: Salah. Instead of going on auto-pilot mode, fully engage with Him during the five prescribed moments each day. Express genuine gratitude and directly present your concerns to Him.

■ To conclude, in a world where Salah often becomes a mere habit, the author reiterates the spiritual depths and discusses the condition of the heart one should cultivate when approaching this act of worship, offering insights on how to foster this mindset and exploring the impacts Salah should have on one's life.

Eeman, like a delicate flower, can bloom or wither in response to life's various challenges. Repent, ascend, and usher shifts into your life to earn the pleasure of your Creator. Be the Ummah that is capable of instigating positive societal transformations, rather than one that perpetually whines about every tiny problem.
