Fluffytober Day 25 - Nook

Wadjet giggled softly as she tiptoed through the mansion, finally finding who she had been looking for and knocking on the doorjamb to get her attention. “Chyndra. Are you busy?” 

“Not really,” the warrior replied, putting a mark where she had been working on the list for the new submarine expansion. “Why?” 

“Come on.” Wadjet waved her over and put a finger to her lips. “Keep quiet,” she added, then led her to the living room. In the window seat nook Davien and Rika had curled up together, and at some point in the process of reading had both fallen asleep. Rika’s head rested heavily on Davien’s shoulder, the book they had been reading draped across his lap, something like a purr and a snore stirring Davien’s hair. The slightly taller Miqo’te had his arm curled around Rika’s back, their tails draped over each other, and his head resting on his husband’s.

“Oh… that’s adorable…” Chyndra smiled and nudged her sister in law lightly. “Come on, before we wake them up. They need the rest.” 

“I know, but that’s just so precious…” Wadjet sighed. “Oh if only we had a way to capture images… I’ll just have to go bug Cid until he invents one.” 

Chyndra laughed softly as she towed Wadjet away. “You do that. I’ll help pay for it. Don’t tell them, though. I want to be able to savor them without having to keep them hidden!”

Justin didn’t think his favorite song would change when his new band took him out for dinner.

“You eat ribs with your hands.” Danny pulled the fork and knife from his fingers.

“Just eat.” Maynard pushed the plate of meat toward their new bandmate.

Once the meat his his lips his eyes grew wide. He hadn’t eaten anything so heavenly in his 25 years on earth. How could meat melt in your mouth? The different spices and sugar balanced the tangy notes. 

“I think we just changed his life,” Adam studied how Justin’s blue eyes sparkled and how his cheekbones stood out. Later, he would try and capture the emotion of discovering a new favorite food. 

“Wot?” Justin held up his hands, covered in sticky deliciousness. 

“You just lick it off.” Adam told him, wishing those capable fingers were moving against his skin.

Fluffytober Day 27 - Outdoor Event

The sounds, bright colours and smells of the spiced foods were almost overwhelming; Rika took a packet of spiced nuts that almost brought tears to his eyes, and cooled it with a cup of milky chai tea. The wind off the bay picked through his hair and toyed with his ears, swirling the spicy scent with it. The festival that had sprung up around the race that had brought the Arkasodara and the Gajasura together was still in full swing, even though the race itself was long over. Brightly coloured gulal powder still coated some of the participants and watchers, who had come from as far away on the island as the capital city for the party. 

Rika himself was more than a little covered in the powder, given the rainbow that had marked the Arkasodara victory that he’d had a minor hand in. He was just happy that the Hippo Riders had made a name for themselves and they were going to be a part of the island’s society and economy going forward, rather than apart from it. Anything that helped to bring harmony and helped the islanders get back on their feet after the horror that was the End of Days was, to his mind, a major boon. 

More importantly, his job here was done. In his mind, the best thing to do was to back out quietly - no one should become dependent on anyone, but instead learn to depend on each other and support each other. They might hail him as a hero, but when the world had been saved, life had to go on. And here, in this festival, he could see the seeds for that life, joy and prosperity to grow and bloom. 

With a smile, he slid into a corner and triggered the teleport home, leaving the people of Thavnair to their festival.

Fluffytober Day 26 - Fireplace

The heart of the Free Company house was the living room, full of couches and chairs, and all warmed by a rousing fireplace on cold winter nights. It rarely snowed in Shirogane, but the cold rain seeped through the walls and seemed to hang in the air. Though the house was well heated, something about the cracking fire seemed to drive away the chill in a way nothing else did, which was why on those cold nights, the entire Free Company that wasn’t out doing things tended to gather there. Brygette and Chyndra had claimed a loveseat, curled up together under a hand woven throw blanket. Luka, ‘Seti, Ryvan and Kattey were playing a game of mahjong while they discussed the latest weapon’s designs that the various guilds had released, while Wadjet and Ekat cooed over a catalog of the newest designs from the Weaver’s Guild. Davien sipped coffee as he read, curled up in an egg shaped woven chair. 

Rika had to smile, enjoying the emotional warmth of the family gathered together. He looked over as the door open and waved a hello to his brother in law Antaro, Wadjet’s husband, then grinned as she squealed and ran up to greet  him with a kiss. His family… 

With a contented sigh, he dropped the last of the cookies he’d made into a basket and picked it up with one hand, taking a tray of mulled cider in the other and went to join them.
