The pirates were a trap. Or laid a trap, those damned dezgra floorstains. In my foolishness I bid my command trinary, believing this to be fully sufficient - though our firepower was well suited, they destroyed the second star and heavily damaged my command star.

Though my HBK is near salvage, I am fortunately unharmed. They missed the cockpit. I managed to salvage small amounts of recorded battle data from the black box.

Above is a pict capture of one of the relevant mechs they had, an Atlas III. Please inform me of your thoughts on such a mech, post-mortem as it may be.

I am pleased you survived, and saddened to here of the loss, or nearly so, of your Hunchback. I know it had served you well for many years. But you yourself are not overly injured, quiaff?

As to these pirates, how in the Great Father's name did they get themselves an Atlas III? That was a rare enough 'Mech when it was in production, let alone now that the Combine took over the world it was produced on. It was only ever seen in AFFS and Republic of the Sphere forces, and even then only at upper levels as a command 'Mech.

I have personally inspected all remaining ex-Republic Atlas IIIs as part of my new role, so it was likely a former (or knowing pirates, stolen) AFFS machine. It is an impressive and imposing machine, more than a worthy successor to the Atlas and Atlas II, being essentially an update of the standard model for 3130s level tech.

I can only imagine what facing off against it must have been like, with all the firepower it carries... A Clan LRM-20 and RAC/2 for long-range, four Medium X-Pulse Lasers and a Streak SRM-6 for short-range. An Armored Cockpit, twin Small Shields, nearly 20% of its weight in armor, advanced ECM equipment, and CASE II... It must have taken a horrific beating. At least it was the command D3 version, not the frontline D2 version with its Class 30 HAG and Targeting Computer. I fear the engagement may have gone worse that that been the case.

Though I hope you were able to destroy this Atlas, quiaff? No pirates should have such a thing. I will speak to the Intelligence department and see if they can track the origin of this 'Mech down. Any recovered thermal, magnetic, or acoustic signature data you had you be useful, presuming you have not located its serial number.

Mansion Job Headcanons!

Slenderman is the leader/father figure of the household. He keeps everyone safe, identifies and helps solve problems, and divides up regular housekeeping responsibilities. His own are mostly vacuuming and mopping, he finds this fair, since it's HIS house he chose with a large floor space, so other than individual bedrooms, he keeps floors clean. He's also the main cook, but most people usually cook for themselves.

Masky, as a proxy, is one of his right-hand men, and mostly helps to divide up chores, and keep everyone performing their responsibilities. His own chores are keeping the kitchen clean, wiping counters and the stove, doing the dishes, organizing a day to clean the fridge out, etc.

Hoodie has a harder time with manual labor due to being disabled and having a bad back, so he spends most of his time just walking outside, keeping an eye out for people in the forest. He doesn't usually "dispose of them" himself, but simply tracks them and calls in the other proxies for help when he finds someone getting too close to the mansion.

Toby is usually the one who takes the lead when Hoodie finds someone. A sort of unofficial responsibility of his is to make new people feel welcome, he's fairly outgoing and friendly, so it's not that hard. He also dusts most surfaces.

Jeff is the one who makes the most bloodstains without bleeding constantly himself, so he's the one to take care of stains. He manages laundry and floorstains Slenderman can't get out himself.

Eyeless Jack is the resident medic, he tends everyone's wounds and looks them over if they're sick. He's no hospital doctor, but he gets the job done well enough.

Jane and Clockwork double-team theirs, they mostly watch over Sally and any younger Pastas (in the case of child OCs). They help school them and keep them happy and safe. Laughing Jack also helps with this a bit, but not all the time (he mostly just hangs around and does nothing to help, but he makes minimal mess, so no one really minds). As such, any cleaning responsibilities with the kid(s) and cooking for them falls on their shoulders.

BEN is kind of a jack of all trades in the mansion, but he's best with being the resident mechanic and tech support. He took it upon himself to upgrade the entire place so the wiring was reliable, they had decent TVs, appliances, and electronics, Wi-Fi, and also fixed it so they didn't have to siphon city water and electricity, they can produce their own electricity with solar panels and have a water treatment system (which he had a LOT of help setting up), so they're entirely self sustaining. As such, any upkeep is on him. If the stove breaks, he's the one either fixing or replacing it. Everyone's usually willing to lend him a hand if it's heavy or involves water, but the major know-how is on him. Due to his hydrophobia, he's excused from most cleaning chores, but he usually helps where he can, anyway.

Bonus! BEN, Toby, and Jeff are the ones with the most free time AND normal enough faces to not raise questions (since BEN can hide his eyes and ears fairly well, and the other two can hide their injuries), so usually they're the ones to go into town for groceries or various supplies. Masky and Hoodie and even Jane CAN, but they're usually pretty busy making sure everything home is running smoothly, while that trio is mostly only called in when they're needed.

And with that...the floors are finally done in one room! We have moved all the stuff back into it plus more because now it’s time to do another bedroom and the hallway. The carpet tear out happens tomorrow. Tonight I have to get all my stuff out of it and fit it into the tiny space we have. And this will be tough because it’s all my clothes and shoes etc. so I’ll truly be living in and around this mess now. I don’t do well with that kind of thing but tough cookies because that’s house restoration life. All the more incentive to get it done, I suppose! And get it right this time. No more messing up on the floors! I’ll stain them entirely by hand if I have to - and I plan to do just that, actually. Anyway. Oh we are having such a discouraging day. The floor dried terribly - it looks worse than this in person. It’s horrid. Stain is not like paint, I am learning. One more coat won’t hide the issues. And there are many, many issues. We can’t sand it all down and start again, we have way too much else to do. And frankly I don’t think we could stand it. How can you fix something like this? If anyone has any ideas what we did wrong and what we can do to fix this floor...please let me know. Floor update: it’s better. Not perfect, but better. I appreciate those of you who took the time to share possible solutions! Here’s what we did after that first disastrous stain-job. We sanded down the uneven darker parts. Which only kind of helped. And then it was all me. 👩🏻‍🎨 I meticulously re-stained the entire floor by hand taking the time to blend it and try and disguise the uneven first coat. Did it totally work? No. But it mostly did. So it’s better than it was! Still not thrilled with it but I require perfection so I’m hard to please. Something else - why is the stain so orange? (Especially considering I dislike that color and prefer browner stains.) It’s because we had to match it to the 100+ year old trim which has a very orange hue. At this point...whatever. 🙄 I just can’t wait for this endless project to be done. After this room we have 2 more bedrooms, one hallway and...a staircase which I’m dreading. Time to work on the trim! We haven’t yet decided whether we will restore the original, super thick trim - it needs it, but not super badly. If you zoom in and look at it, you’ll see a light line where the floor meets that original trim - that’s where we took out some small trim that was damaged. We will restore what we can and put new stuff in for the rest. Today I also went over the entire floor lightly with steel wool and then a wet towel to clean. A finishing technique husband learned from someone he knew who put in fancy wooden gym floors. Is it done? Nope. But I feel we are getting close. Is it as perfect as I wanted? Nope. But I still have two more rooms and a hallway and a staircase on which to do better. Moving stuff back into room 2. I don’t have time to take any “look at my pretty house” photos. Because this stuff goes back into one room, gets organized, and then we move the overflow from the next room we are working on into this one. Yup. Trim went into this room today. And already we are ripping up the next one. If we took our time with this, we’d never be finished. So I have about 5 seconds before this room will have even more things piled in it (how do we accumulate so many things even when we try not to?!) and I took those 5 seconds to snap a photo of the evening light.
