Garage Doors That Pose Dangers In Covina CA
One functional part in your house is the garage. Some prefer an older style tilt-up garage door, while most homeowners today prefer a roll-up garage door. In the garage you place your car, your child's bicycles, and your repair tools. Around the house, a lot of accidents may happen. It is possible to burn your hand while cooking in the stove, break your leg while falling down the stairs, or accidentally knock your head under the dining table while reaching for that fork you dropped. There is danger everywhere, and your garage is not an exception. Do you have an automatic garage door? If its garage door opener is non-reversing, your family may be in trouble.
Hundreds of years ago, garage doors were made of wood. Then from the old barn door-style, garage doors developed into steel doors and doors made of synthetic materials for better insulation and durability. Basically, a garage door may weigh hundreds of pounds. True, it isn't a good idea if your child, or even you, get trapped under a garage door. So certain precautions are needed in order to ensure your family's safety.
Tumblr media
If you have an automatic garage door that does not automatically reverse, you should replace it with a new opener that can do reverse. Reports received by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) states that approximately 60 children between the ages of 2 and 14 have been trapped and killed under automatic garage doors since 1982. Other reports show that other children had severe injuries when the closing of garage doors almost crushed them. That is why non-reversing garage door openers should be replaced at once. Or, you may opt for a new residential garage door installation if you want a new door with a reverse garage door opener. Don't be satisfied with garage doors that only stop whenever it hits an object under it. You should be pining for the reversing one.
Check your garage door for signs of malfunction and failure. Replace parts that needed to be replaced. To do that, you have to make sure that your door is balanced. It should stay in place when stopped in any partially opened position. If your garage door is unbalanced, it may just crash whenever somebody is under it or not. Never allow your child to be near the area of the garage when a door check-up is going on. In many reported instances, even professional garage door technicians have suffered serious injuries like broken bones in the process of replacing garage door springs. The tension spring and torsion springs are hard to replace because of the great force imposed by the weight of the garage door. That is why it is very important not to do it on your own or by a family member who is not also qualified to change or replace garage door parts. So never ever think that you can do garage door repair by yourself.
You have to maintain your garage door more often than maintaining your car. If your garage door fails to function it may crash to floor then probably hurt someone under it, which is more likely to be your spouse or your child. Therefore, it is a wise precaution to have regular maintenance and garage door repair for your garage doors.

A 1946 Ford F-100 Big-Window That Gets Better With Every Rebuild
Thirty-four years ago, Richard Wilk got involved with a remodel on his house. It made sense to have an old workhorse pickup to help with the job. Richard, from Rowland Heights in Los Angeles County, found what he was looking for a few miles away in Monterey Park. The owner had five big-window Ford trucks and this 1956 F-100 was in fair condition—good enough for what Richard needed.
By the time the remodel was done, Richard had taken a liking to the old truck, continuing to use it as a daily driver. A few years after that, he started thinking about rebuilding the truck. By the ’90s, these Effies had long since crossed the line into the classic truck category and Richard’s plans extended past repairs and restoration into building something capable of getting attention at car shows while still serving as a daily driver. With the blessing of his wife, Mary Ann, and help from his son, Jeff, Richard started on the frame-off rebuild. The resulting second version of the faithful F-100 was distinguished by its bright yellow paint. The factory 292 and three-speed were replaced with a Lincoln 460 and C6 combination. The rebuilt chassis included independent front suspension and Currie Ford 9-inch rearend. White letters Goodyear Eagle GTX tires rolled on 15-inch Edelbrock 426 five-window wheels. The beautiful rebuild was a hit at shows and was featured in the Jan. ’02 issue of Truckin, a sister publication of ours.
Success at shows didn’t prevent Richard from keeping his F-100 on the road, and eventually the truck started showing signs of daily use, including some rust returning in the usual places. He got in touch with Bill Kenney Jr. at Trigen Street Rods in La Habra, California, for professional help with rust removal and fresh paint. Naturally, that evolved, and the Wilks’ father and son project was about to move into its third version at a completely new level of impressiveness. “Bill took the lead on the full restoration, working his magic in fabrication, doing all of my requests, and adding a ton of his own great ideas,” Richard told us.
With the body off the frame, Trigen treated the chassis to some extensive modifications. Boxing plates, custom engine and transmission mounts, and crossmembers with a driveshaft safety yoke reinforce the F-100 frame. The TCI Mustang II–style frontend is equipped with Gabriel coilovers to smooth the ride, and a TCI power steering rack to ensure effortless cornering. At the other end, a Ford 9-inch rear with 3.73:1 gears and a posi differential are suspended by a four-link setup and Romic Motors Performance coilovers. ABS Power Brake disc brakes are mounted at each corner for reliable stopping. A powdercoat finish by Fercadi Powder Coating keeps the undercarriage protected and pretty.
A smooth custom firewall and inner fenders were created for the engine compartment, and the Ford 460 big-block was rebuilt at Orange Engine, modified with a mild RV cam for daily driving with some low-end torque. Induction is a traditional Edelbrock 750 carb and manifold combo, crowned with an air cleaner from Racing Power Company. A March Performance serpentine system dresses up the front of the engine. Exhaust runs through Sanderson headers, 2 1/2-inch custom pipes, and MagnaFlow mufflers on the way to the tailpipes routed through the custom running boards. The Ford E40D electronic transmission was assembled at A1 Transmission.
As mentioned, the rust repair and paint that Richard’s F-100 needed evolved into the custom bodywork it deserved. Bill at Trigen Street Rods restored and modified the exterior sheetmetal. Driprails were shaved, emblems were eliminated, seams were filled, and door corners were radiused. Built-in turn signals and LED lenses were added to the headlights. The taillights feature billet aluminum housings. The bumpers have been boxed and tucked in, with a frenched license plate niche in the rear. The filled and smoothed hood was re-hinged for a forward tilt. The bed was cleaned up with all seams filled and fender bolts removed. A smooth Mar-K tailgate features hidden supports. Richard installed the Mar-K oak bed floor panels and stainless steel strips.
The truck was yellow when Richard bought it, and repainted yellow for its second version. For its third version, it’s yellow again, but only after a lot of thought. At the time, Richard was seeing a lot of orange and root beer brown paint at the shows he attended, but he didn’t want what so many others had chosen. He considered blue, but a friend had a blue pickup. He considered red, but as a retired firefighter, he’d spent enough time in red trucks. So he stayed with yellow, picking the brightest he could find. Auto Perfections in La Habra sprayed the House of Kolor paint called Lunar Yellow. Richard decided against a pearl finish in order to maintain a mid-’60s look.
To fit the beefy tires, the rear fenders were widened 4 inches. The previous wheel and tire combo of 15-inch Edelbrock EB426 wheels with white-letter Goodyear Eagle GTX tires was a little dated, and were replaced with 18-inch custom-built Vintage 45 five-spokes from Vintage Wheel Works with media-blasted centers and spokes, and polished outer rings and three-bar knock-offs. Tucker Tire in Covina provided the Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R radials.
The F-100 went to Bill’s Auto Upholstery in Brea, California, for the same level of attention as the rest of the truck. Tan leather was used to cover the Cadillac Eldorado full-power seats and door panels. The dash was cleaned of the glovebox, ashtray, switches, and controls. A custom aluminum bezel houses the Dolphin six-instrument gauge set. Switches were relocated to the leather-wrapped steel center console. The overhead console holds controls for the Custom Autosound stereo system. A polished aluminum lower dash was added for the vents for Vintage Air A/C system. A V-8 column drop supports the RPC chrome tilt steering column, topped with a leather-wrapped Budnik Velocity steering wheel.
Richard has taken his 1956 F-100 to countless National and local hot rod events and has earned a ton of awards, including trophies for Best Paint, Best Engine, Best Truck, and Best Of Show. In all of its various versions, from its work truck origins to the magazine cover truck you’re reading about right now, this screaming yellow big-window has retained its identity as a driver.

Rose Paving’s Creative Projects
How our employees think out of the box and execute unique projects
By Eliot Smith
Since Rose Paving was founded in 1974, we have earned and maintained our reputation as experts in the field. Our consistent preventative maintenance services have earned us the trust of numerous partners and allowed us to work on a multitude of projects. We’re excited to feature three creative projects that allowed us to learn new skills, stretch our abilities and impress our clients.
Paving for our furry friends
Rose Paving loves dogs, so we were thrilled to help build a dog park for a residential community in West Covina, CA. It was our first time executing a project like this, but our long-time customer trusted us to rise to the challenge and perform solid work. The process started with grass area removal, where we demolished existing sidewalks and evened out 2,042 square feet of grass, using a multi-ton vibrating compactor to pack it flat. Then, our contractors who specialize in dog parks installed eco-friendly turf and brought it all to life. Finally, we formed and replaced all sidewalks surrounding the dog park, including pads for our furry friends’ water fountain! This project required creative thinking and seamless collaboration, and we’re proud to have pulled it off.

Thinking creatively to get the job done
Working on the LA Convention Center is not your everyday job. Luckily, Rose Paving Southern California was more than able to take on the challenge. Hundreds of thousands of people visit the convention center every year, so our project manager worked hand-in-hand with staff to block out only the portions we needed so as not to disrupt the busy stadium. Then, our crewmembers restriped new ADA stalls per city-provided designs to adhere to the latest ADA regulations. We also added non-concrete bumper blocks to aid their LEED certification. Shout-out to the crews who worked tirelessly to remove the old paint from the concrete floor so that we could restripe without confusion. It’s the small details that make all the difference.

Paving the Way for Creativity
Last year, our Chicago team had the exciting opportunity to work with a production company to construct their set in the middle of a stadium parking lot. Over three phases, we installed an asphalt pad for a VIP tent and covered catch basins with steel plates so we could pave over them temporarily to ensure an even surface. We also installed temporary asphalt ramps, pads and curbs to guide pedestrian traffic, facilitate equipment staging and prevent water collection. After the performances were over, our crews came back to remove the temporary structures and return the parking lot back to its original condition. We were honored to have played a part in the production and helped such a talented team.

Rose Paving prides itself on its wide range of paving work and its unique approach to every project. Our experienced project managers and crewmembers are able to take on any job, big or small. We can’t wait for you to see our work in action. Contact us for an estimate today.
