insights&solutions, feature priority, secondary research
Insights and Solutions:
The largest problem that was mentioned during my surveys was the quality of the goods being provided especially when its offered from a restaurant, or is a prepped item. My solution to this would be a three step process, the first step would be to include the health scores of the restaurants on the app. The second solution would be to use a rating system. The third solution would be to limit what can be sold, for instance: if the food is prepped it has to be from the day of, if it’s a freshly baked item no more than 36 hours since made. I would also make sure that whatever they are trying to sell abides by the health code standards for the state.
Feature priority:
Verification system for sellers
Identification system for buyers
Search options
Payment system
Photo verification of items sold (seller and buyer)
Scroll down menu
Time slot for pickup
Options to rate sellers
Options to rate items
Features optional:
Chat system through app
Push notification
App customization (dark mode, light mode, blue screen ect. )
Secondary research:
Food For All (app):
Similarities: allows restaurants and bakeries and cafes to sell left over/ extra food for a lower price. They are usually already made foods.
Differences: Food for all is only for restaurants, bakeries and cafes, my app would include grocery stores. Food for all only sells premade items, my app would include fresh items like fruit and veggies as well as prepped items like pizza dough or already cut veggies. It would also include unused items, like if a restaurant orders too much potatoes, or sugar packets.
Flashfood (app):
Similarities: Allows you to buy food near expiration date from super market, giving you a better price.
Differences: Flash Food works with Meijer which is a retail store where you can also buy groceries (like target). They only offer groceries and do now allow local grocery stores to sign up (to my knowledge). Also, only available in Canada.
To Good To Go (app):
Similarities: Offers food from restaurants, bakeries and cafes and supermarkets in packaged “Magic bags” that contain a variety of goods.
Differences: You do not get to choose what your getting, nor do you get to see the item before you get it. They just launched in the US so it might not have many options available.
Food Rescue US (app):
Similarities: Connects with grocery stores and restaurants to help save food.
Differences: This app is more towards connecting restaurants and grocery stores with local organizations to donate the food for charity and local shelters. One of the purposes of my app are to bypass this because NY laws for donating food are very strict and make it hard to donate things that are premade or prepped.

Flashfood Purchases in September 2024. #thebestappever #grocerysavings #cheapbananas
Lots of fresh strawberries this month. Fave pickup this month. Flashfood is the best grocery shopping app to save on buying food and non-food items that are nearing their “best before” dates (a fabricated date that doesn’t always have to do with whether the food is fresh or safe to eat; it’s better to use your eyes and nose to see if something has gone bad). With this in mind, you and your…
