Okay so I’ve been thinking about this for the past couple of days and I’ve come to a weird conclusion. Smoothing over Lina’s rougher edges really does create a lot of questions. From what’s shown in S5 she is a loving mother to Stella and seems to still hold some feelings for Radias. Meanwhile he treats her coldly. Now pre S5 they were both categorised as being at fault for the marriage breaking down but the Luna presented here doesn’t seem like that would be the case. Also the king marrying the Countess doesn’t fall in line with the (depressing) story arc of marrying a new younger pretty women. Compared to Luna, Cassandra doesn’t seem particularly young so that usual like of reasoning goes out the window. Honestly given the way the king and queen treat each other, him being cold, rude, resentful and her being apologetic, and kind it just reads to me (and I accept this is a long reach) that Luna had an affair. Like it really is the only thing that seems to make sense with the S5 personalities.

This is a smart and good way to make the fact that Luna and Radius constantly fought and couldn't stand to be in the same room as eachother in the early seasons fit in with s5 Luna being all apologetic and meek. She dun fucked up and cheated and regrets it sooo badly

I prefer Radius and Luna just being at eachother's throats all the time, it just seems more compelling to me, but if I was forced to write such a compliant and apologetic version of Luna I would absolutely use that hc

It would also explain why Luna wasn't there at Stella's princess ball, it would be in bad taste for her to show up

It would also explain why Stella in s1 says that neither her dad nor mom pay a lick of attention to her, and that she was raised like a perfect stranger, but her mother acts so affectionate and caring in s5. She's trying to get Stella to not hate her and want her back in the family

I wouldn't be able to come up with a better way to connect Luna's pre s5 characterization as being equally at fault for the divorce and being incredibly emotionally neglectful to Stella with Luna's s5 characterization of being a differential and loving woman who's quick to compromise if I tired
