Valtteri Bottas and Canadian driver took on a hockey challenge on the F1 paddock - the Finn's prize stirred up confusion: "What's that?"
Finland vs. Canada - that's the name of the game when the spring hockey world championships start this Friday. In honor of the first match, there was a little warm-up game at the F1 paddock as well, when Mercedes' Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas and Racing Point's Canadian driver Lance Stroll met each other in a hockey challenge.
[Valtteri Bottas, Mervi Kallio and Lance Stroll, Spanish GP 2019]
Full article from 2019 translated to English under the cut !
For this, the Leijonat (Finnish national team) had gifted Bottas an official jersey with signatures.
Stroll, in turn, received Canada's own jersey, to which the F1 driver laughed:
"Where's the Sidney Crosby signature on this?"
In the challenge, Bottas and Stroll had to hit plastic bottles arranged in a row so, that when you hit your own bottle, you'd have to give a point to your opponent.
"Damn, that started promisingly." Stroll cursed as he fell one of his own; a bottle in Canada's colors.
"Practically I'd win if I don't shoot at all?" Bottas asked when his own turn came.
"Come on, some sportsmanship!" Stroll exclaimed next to him.
In the end, Bottas downed Stroll's bottle as well, winning the challenge 2-0.
During the trophy ceremony, Stroll followed puzzled as Bottas was handed Finnish Sisu. (black liquorice candy)
"What's that?" Stroll asked Bottas.
"It's salmiakki." Bottas quipped.
"Ah! I've heard of that stuff." Stroll chuckled along.
To Stroll, the losing Canuck, the outcome was a set of warning words when C More's F1 paddock commentator Mervi Kallio gave him Tyrkisk Peber (spicy salty liquorice) as a consolation prize.
"Don't eat it before quali or the race! It could mess up an untrained stomach!" Kallio advised.
"Thanks for the warning." Stroll laughed while inspecting his prize.

Coming back around to this after reblogging yesterday! I got sucked into reading about "Princess Louisa," because she's actually kind of interesting! "Princess Louisa" is Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll (Louisa Caroline Alberta, sixth child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert). This portrait is dated 1881, just one year before the date on the Troy Messenger article.
Princess Louise in Venice, 1 April 1881. Vianelli Brothers - Royal Collection Object 2903653
Princess Louise was a talented artist and dancer, outspoken, a feminist, and most importantly for her time and place, distinctly out of tune with the royal world. She was the first royal to marry a "commoner" (John George Edward Henry Douglas Sutherland Campbell, 9th Duke of Argyll AKA John Campbell, Marquess of Lorne) since 1515. After their marriage, John Campbell went on to become the fourth Governor General of Canada, which is how the two of them ended up living there. At the time of the Troy Messenger article, Princess Louise and her husband were all but estranged; they initially had a happy marriage but drifted apart relatively quickly. Some historians feel it was because the couple did not have any children. However, Princess Louise also kept herself busy with not only her official duties but her individual interests, sometimes going incognito as "Mrs. Campbell" so that she could walk freely on foot and interact in everyday places with everyday people. She didn't seem to care for any distinctions between people due to race, nationality, or social status.
Princess Louise was injured in a sleigh accident (alongside her husband and two attendants) 14 February 1880. Though the visible injuries were minor, she was knocked unconscious and severely concussed, leading to lingering effects of the injury. She left for England in 1881, likely to appease her mother, Queen Victoria; her injuries had been downplayed by the press and in letters home, but suddenly cancelling appointments following the accident and being unable to resume her usual routine was suspicious both in Canada and England. It was likely this downplaying of her injuries and previous ill-will toward Princess Louise for her outspoken feminism and departure from royal norms that led to the poetically snarky Troy Messenger article. That April, she had been in England for the marriage of her brother, Prince Leopold. She sailed back at the end of May on the Sarmatian, and her return was more succinctly detailed by the Wisconsin State Journal.
Wisconsin State Journal, 05 Jun 1882, Page 1 "Princess Louise arrived at Quebec, Sunday night, in the Sarmatian. She was met with ceremony by her husband the Governor General, and other officials. A rain storm broke up the shore festivities. Louise is in good health, and rode in an open carriage to the citadel, despite the rain. The vice regal party will go salmon fishing in a week."
Follow-up articles were interested in the circumstances of Louise's trip on the Sarmatian. In the Wood County Reporter, 22 Jun 1882, Page 1:
"Of the Princess Louise's recent departure from England the London World says: "The Princess Louise was accompanied to the station in London by the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh. So far so good; but it has been a theme of comment that no member of the royal family was found to escort the princess to Liverpool. It has also been remarked that the names of those selected to accompany her royal highness are distinguished by a total absence of that social rank which is generally looked for in the personnel of a royal household."
There are also several articles from October of that year detailing a surprise inspection Princess Louise made of the Sarmatian's steerage, following her being told of abusive and inadequate conditions for the emigrants there. Moral of the story: Crappy newspapers trying to sell copies (or today, clicks) have always posted ill-informed, emotionally-charged non-stories. If it sounds wanky, it probably is - look for the story that's not being told.
I am now determined to find a way to use "ice cream freezer" as an insult again.

The Importance of Furnace Cleaning Services in Canada
As Canada faces its frigid winters, heating systems like furnaces become essential for maintaining a warm and comfortable environment. However, many homeowners tend to overlook the maintenance needs of their furnaces until problems arise. One of the most critical aspects of furnace maintenance is regular cleaning, which not only improves the efficiency of the heating system but also contributes to better indoor air quality and energy savings. In this article, we’ll delve into why furnace cleaning is essential for Canadian homes, what the process entails, and how to find reliable furnace cleaning services in canada.
Why Furnace Cleaning is Essential
Canadian winters can be harsh, with temperatures often dropping well below freezing. During these months, a furnace works overtime to keep the indoor environment comfortable, leading to a buildup of dust, dirt, and other particulates. Over time, this debris can clog filters, block airflow, and hinder the furnace's overall efficiency. If left unattended, these blockages can force the furnace to work harder, consuming more energy and driving up heating costs. Additionally, unclean furnaces can become breeding grounds for bacteria and mold, which can lead to poor indoor air quality and exacerbate respiratory issues.
A well-maintained furnace not only helps to reduce energy bills but also extends the lifespan of the equipment. Neglecting regular cleaning and maintenance can lead to costly repairs and may even necessitate premature replacement of the furnace.
What Furnace Cleaning Involves
Professional furnace cleaning services go beyond simply changing the filter. Here are some of the key steps involved in a comprehensive furnace cleaning:
Inspection: Technicians begin with an inspection of the entire heating system, checking for any signs of wear, leaks, or other potential issues. This initial step helps to identify areas that require extra attention.
Filter Replacement: Furnace filters are the first line of defense against dust and debris entering the furnace. Technicians will either clean or replace the filter, depending on its condition, to ensure optimal airflow.
Blower Cleaning: The blower, which distributes warm air throughout the home, can accumulate dirt and dust. Cleaning the blower blades and motor ensures that it operates efficiently without overheating.
Duct Cleaning: Air ducts play a critical role in transporting heated air throughout the home. Over time, these ducts can collect dust, mold, and other allergens, affecting indoor air quality. Duct cleaning, often offered as an additional service, can greatly improve airflow and reduce allergens.
Burner and Heat Exchanger Inspection: Technicians also examine and clean the burner and heat exchanger, as these are crucial for the combustion process. Any buildup in these areas can lead to incomplete combustion, which could potentially emit harmful gases like carbon monoxide.
How Often Should You Get Your Furnace Cleaned?
Experts recommend getting a furnace cleaned and inspected at least once a year, ideally before the onset of winter. This timing ensures that any potential issues are addressed early, minimizing the risk of unexpected breakdowns during the colder months. However, homes with pets or residents with respiratory conditions may benefit from more frequent cleanings.
Choosing a Reliable Furnace Cleaning Service in Canada
There are numerous furnace cleaning companies across Canada, and selecting a trustworthy provider is essential. Here are some tips for choosing a reliable service:
Experience and Certification: Look for companies with certified technicians and extensive experience in furnace cleaning and HVAC maintenance.
Customer Reviews: Check online reviews to see feedback from previous customers. Positive reviews indicate the reliability and quality of the service.
Pricing and Services: Some companies offer a full suite of services, including duct cleaning and system inspections. Compare prices and service packages to find the best fit for your needs.
Warranty and Guarantee: A good furnace cleaning company will offer a satisfaction guarantee or warranty for their services, giving you peace of mind.
Regular Furnace cleaning near me is essential for Canadian homeowners who want to ensure their heating systems operate efficiently during the long winter months. Not only does it improve energy efficiency, but it also promotes healthier indoor air quality and extends the life of the furnace. By investing in professional furnace cleaning services, homeowners can avoid costly repairs, lower their energy bills, and enjoy a warmer, safer home environment.

10. Leveraging Technology for Safety
Advances in technology offer new opportunities to enhance safety. Drones, for example, can be used to inspect high or hard-to-reach places without putting workers at risk. Wearable technology can monitor workers’ vital signs and fatigue levels, alerting them to take breaks when needed. Implementing these technologies can be a significant upfront investment but pay dividends in reducing accidents and improving worker safety.
11. Feedback Loops and Continuous Improvement
Finally, establishing mechanisms for feedback on safety practices and incidents is crucial for continuous improvement. This can include:
Regular safety meetings to discuss concerns and share experiences.
A system for reporting near-misses and incidents, along with a process for investigating them to prevent future occurrences.
Regular review and updating of safety policies and procedures based on feedback and new information.
Conclusion
For electrical contractors, preventing workplace accidents is not just a regulatory requirement but a moral and economic necessity. By implementing these best practices, contractors can significantly reduce the risk of accidents and injuries, ensuring a safer workplace for their employees. This commitment to safety can also enhance the contractor's reputation, lead to more business opportunities, and ultimately contribute to the success and sustainability of their operations. Safety, therefore, is not just a duty but a smart business strategy.

This article offers a comprehensive guide on pinpointing the sources of these odours, effective do-it-yourself (DIY) professional techniques for odour removal, and preventive strategies.
Remember, Lockhart Industries in Duncan, BC, is your expert for all things HVAC-related. When you find yourself in a bind, don’t hesitate to call us! Living on the West Coast of Canada, we are no strangers to moisture-related problems!
Locating the Origins of Musty Odours
The first step for homeowners grappling with musty smells involves accurately identifying their source within the property. Common culprits often include dampness, mould or mildew, or insufficient ventilation. These conditions create an environment conducive to bacterial growth, resulting in a musty odour that can infiltrate the entire building.
Beyond the unpleasant scent, these conditions pose significant health risks. Continuous exposure to mould spores can lead to respiratory problems, allergies, and potentially severe long-term health issues. Thus, addressing these issues promptly is paramount.
While DIY air purifiers and natural deodorizers offer temporary relief, achieving long-term resolution involves considering mould prevention techniques. This includes ensuring proper ventilation, humidity control, and regular cleaning. Timely repair of leaks and thorough drying of damp areas are also crucial.
DIY Approaches for Odour Elimination
Addressing the root causes of musty smells is essential, and several DIY techniques for odour elimination can effectively reduce these unpleasant odours in your home or commercial space.
Natural remedies, such as white vinegar and baking soda, known for their neutralizing properties, can be used individually or combined to create homemade sprays. These sprays can be applied to affected areas and left to air dry, eliminating surface and airborne odours.
Ventilation strategies play a vital role in odour elimination. Regularly opening windows and doors helps circulate fresh air, diluting stale and musty odours. Exhaust fans in damp areas, like kitchens and bathrooms, significantly reduce odour.
Dehumidifiers are another worthwhile option, as they can control humidity levels, preventing the growth of odour-causing moulds and mildew.
Proper cleaning techniques, including regular vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning of fabrics and surfaces, contribute to freshness and an odour-free living environment.
These DIY strategies can help maintain a clean, fresh, and pleasant indoor space.
Professional Guidance and HVAC Solutions
Despite DIY efforts, seeking professional assistance for persistent musty smells, especially those related to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) issues, may be necessary. HVAC professionals possess in-depth knowledge of ventilation systems and advanced odour-detection tools. They can identify the root cause of musty odours and provide tailored solutions, ensuring optimal indoor air quality.
Professional advice can guide you toward the most effective intervention, whether the source of the odour is a damp basement, an old carpet, or a malfunctioning HVAC unit. For instance, if mould is discovered during an inspection, professionals can undertake mould remediation, employing specialized techniques to safely remove mould and prevent future growth, effectively eliminating the musty smell at its origin.
In addition to remediation, HVAC professionals may recommend air purification systems. These systems eliminate existing odours and prevent new ones from developing by filtering out potential odour-causing particles from the air.
Preventing Future Musty Odours
Regular HVAC system maintenance is crucial for preventing future musty smells in residential and commercial spaces. A properly maintained HVAC system can effectively manage air quality and humidity control, reducing the potential for mould growth and unwanted odours.
Preventing moisture is a significant factor in maintaining a fresh-smelling environment. Using dehumidifiers in damp areas, such as basements or bathrooms, helps keep relative humidity levels between 30-50%, an optimal range for preventing mould growth.
Ventilation strategies, such as using exhaust fans in bathrooms and kitchens, can help eliminate excess moisture. Opening windows to exchange fresh air is also beneficial, especially in rooms with poor ventilation. Ensure vents, especially those in crawl spaces or attics, are not blocked to prevent moisture accumulation.
Mould prevention is a critical aspect of fighting musty smells. Regularly inspect and clean areas prone to mould growth, such as under sinks, windows, and basements. Using mold-resistant products like paints and building materials can also help.
Benefits of a Fresh and Odour-Free Environment
Maintaining a fresh and odour-free environment offers numerous benefits, enhancing not only the aesthetic appeal of a space but also the overall health and well-being of its occupants. This is achieved by improving air quality, a fundamental determinant of health. The absence of musty smells and allergens—common triggers of respiratory issues such as asthma and allergies—contributes to the health benefits of a clean, fresh environment.
Moreover, a fresh and odor-free environment can lead to increased productivity. Research has shown that fresh air and a pleasant smell can significantly improve concentration, reduce stress levels, and increase productivity. This is particularly important in commercial spaces, where high productivity levels are often required.
Finally, customer satisfaction is another crucial advantage of maintaining an odor-free environment. For businesses, in particular, the first impression is vital, and a fresh, clean smell can significantly contribute to a positive initial impression. This enhances the customer's experience and increases the likelihood of them returning.
Therefore, businesses and households can enjoy the benefits of a fresh and odour-free environment by eliminating allergens and improving air quality.

The Essence of Tree Preservation Preservation is a core principle of arboriculture, and it’s a mantra we hold dear at Cañada Tree Care. Our first step is always to assess the overall health of a tree. Healthy trees provide numerous benefits, from providing shade to enhancing property value. We believe that preserving a tree should be the default choice whenever possible.
When Preservation is Viable Preservation becomes viable when a tree can coexist safely with its surroundings. Factors such as disease, structural integrity, and proximity to structures are carefully evaluated. Our La Canada tree service experts conduct thorough inspections to determine if pruning, crown reduction, or other treatments can rectify issues and extend the tree’s life.
The Art of Crown and Height Reduction Crown and height reduction are powerful techniques to maintain a tree’s health while addressing concerns such as interfering branches or obstructing views. These procedures involve carefully trimming the canopy and reducing the tree’s overall height. Our skilled arborists at Cañada Tree Care are well-versed in these methods to ensure your tree thrives while preserving its aesthetic value.
Signs That Removal is Necessary While our commitment to preservation is unwavering, there are instances where tree removal becomes the only safe and responsible choice. Seeking Investors Willing to Save Humanity
Seeking Investors Willing to Save Humanity
I am Xuefeng, the founder of Lifechanyuan, and it has been exactly 20 years since the founding of Lifechanyuan. The mission of Lifechanyuan is to "revere God, revere life, revere nature, and walk the path of God." The theoretical foundation of Lifechanyuan consists of over 20 million words in the "Lifechanyuan Articles" and the "Xuefeng Articles," while our practical activities involve the construction of the Second Home.
Over the past 16 years, we have created 21 Second Homes in different locations, starting with our first one in Zimbabwe and subsequently in China, Thailand, Canada, and South Korea. The production and lifestyle model of the Second Home we have created are entirely different from traditional models, and we have publicly explained and demonstrated this on the internet through text, images, and videos.
If you are concerned about human history and the current state of affairs, if you worry about climate change, human safety, and the future, you must be aware of the following:
Traditional human production and lifestyle models are the root causes of human suffering and crises.
Human knowledge, cognition, and thinking of the past are insufficient to save humanity.
Various religions are not enough to save humanity; if they were, human life would be very different from what it is now.
No political party is sufficient to save humanity.
No country, even the powerful United States, can save humanity.
The United Nations is not a reliable solution.
Many great prophets have predicted the emergence of sages in the East to save humanity. This is perhaps the biggest lie and deception in human history. We can consider it a plot by the devil to lead humanity to destruction. It's easy to imagine that if the human inner garden is not well cultivated, if selfishness is not eliminated, and if ego is strong, no sage, god, or deity can save humanity.
If we cannot create a production and lifestyle model for humanity that is completely different from the traditional model, in other words, a survival program, then all moral preaching is just a sedative, all efforts will be like scratching the itch through shoes, and all forms of assistance will only delay the pain.
Therefore, creating a human production and lifestyle model that is different from the traditional one is the remedy for sustainable human development.
We have been dedicated to this goal for 16 years, and now we want to build a Second Home in the Cariboo region of British Columbia, Canada, that can accommodate 300 people. The location has been selected, but we lack funding, specifically 2 million Canadian dollars. If you have always wanted to alleviate the suffering and pain of humanity and have sufficient funds, could you consider investing 2 million Canadian dollars to help us realize our shared vision?
Interested parties, please contact the Lifechanyuan Information Exchange Center at the email address: [email protected]. We welcome you to come for discussions, inspections, and visits to the chosen Second Home site.
With respect,
Xuefeng
Founder of Lifechanyuan
