What Are the Major Challenges while Implementing Effective Fraud Detection and Prevention Solutions?
Imagine waking up to find that your online business, built with years of effort and investments has been compromised by fraud. Sales are lost, customer data is exposed, and your reputation is on the line. In today’s digital age, fraud detection and prevention solutions are more crucial than ever. Yet, businesses continue to struggle against increasingly sophisticated tactics that traditional security measures often fail to counter. and even the most powerful systems can still face challenges in keeping up.
This blog will explore the major obstacles businesses encounter when implementing effective fraud detection and prevention solutions, and how emerging technologies and strategies are stepping in to address these issues.
Here’s a quick overview of the key topics we’ll be covering:
Index
Major Challenges in Fraud Detection and Prevention Solutions
High Rate of False Positives
Evolving Fraud Patterns
Lack of Model Transparency and Explainability
Time Delays in Detecting Fraud
Balancing Fraud Prevention with Customer Experience
Integration Challenges and Time Taken to Implement
Can Businesses Overcome These Challenges?
The Solution: Device Fingerprinting-Based Fraud Detection and Prevention
How Device Fingerprinting Overcomes All the Challenges
Conclusion
Major Challenges in Fraud Detection and Prevention Solutions
a. High False Positive Rates
Fraudsters hide in plain sight, mimicking the patterns of normal users, making it challenging for fraud detection solutions to identify them accurately. While only a small number of users have malicious intentions, their ability to blend in raises the risk of false positives. A high false positive rate leads to unnecessary disruptions for genuine users.
For example, a frequent online shopper Jon makes a large purchase while traveling abroad. The fraud detection system flags the transaction as suspicious due to the unfamiliar location and payment method. His account is frozen, and the order is delayed, leaving him frustrated and questioning the store’s reliability. This poor experience may even push Jon to shop at a competitor.
False positives negatively impact the experience of genuine customers, damaging their trust in the brand. It drives up operational costs by causing temporary service blockages, requiring additional resources to address affected users. Businesses must prioritize finding the right balance in risk thresholds, as an abundance of false positives can harm both customer experience and overall business performance.
Speaking of finding the right balance, it’s crucial to work with experts who can tailor a fraud prevention strategy that suits your unique needs. Schedule a discussion with fraud prevention specialists today and take the first step toward securing your business without compromising customer experience.
b. Evolving Fraud Patterns
Fraudsters are quick when it comes to adapting their tactics to outsmart detection systems and finding new ways to exploit online platforms. You think you're prepared, only to be blindsided by a new type of fraud you never anticipated, leaving your business vulnerable and struggling to respond.
Example - In 2017, the credit reporting agency Equifax suffered a massive data breach that exposed the sensitive information of approximately 147 million people. In a matter of hours after the breach was publicly disclosed, Equifax's stock price plummeted by nearly 35%. Customers and partners quickly distanced themselves from the company, and the breach cost Equifax an estimated $1.4 billion in damages, legal fees, and remediation efforts. Had the company been better prepared with more proactive fraud detection and prevention solutions, it might have mitigated the breach's severity and the damage to its reputation.
Fraudsters move fast—your response must be faster and smarter.
Businesses need to implement deep learning and AI-powered fraud detection systems that can continuously adapt to emerging trends and swiftly identify fraud at its root before it causes damage.
c. Lack of Model Transparency and Explainability
Many fraud detection and prevention solutions fail to provide clear explanations for why specific users are marked as fraudsters. These black box models only provide a score (e.g., likelihood of fraud) without explaining the reasoning behind it.
For example, a fraud detection system that flags transactions from 0 to 10 indicates a level 7 chance of fraud for a specific transaction but doesn’t specify the reasons behind this assessment. The fraud prevention team, unsure of the reason behind the flag, delays the transaction by 3 hours, fearing a potential fraud. This lack of transparency not only frustrates the customer but also risks losing their trust.
It undermines your trust in the system's decisions and makes it difficult to make precise choices when needed. It's advisable to look for solutions like SHIELD that provide comprehensive detail about why a user is labeled as risky.
Tumblr media
d. Time Delays in Detecting Fraud
Fraud detection systems can take time to identify and flag fraudulent activity, especially when large amounts of data are involved. These systems analyze large data sets to identify suspicious patterns by extracting key information such as transaction value, time, and location. However, the process of identifying and organizing these critical data points can be slow, causing delays in detecting fraud. If the system fails to pinpoint the right details quickly, the entire detection process is compromised.
But in the world of online business, timing is everything. Delays in fraud detection can lead to rapid, irreversible consequences. In 2013, Target suffered a massive data breach when hackers stole credit card information from over 40 million customers. Despite early warning signs, the fraud detection system failed to flag the breach promptly, allowing fraudsters to misuse the stolen data for weeks. The delay in detecting fraud led to an estimated $162 million in damages for the company.
So it becomes a necessity to look for fraud detection technology that identifies fraudsters before they can commit fraud. Device fingerprinting proactively detects fraudulent activity with continuous session monitoring and identifies red flags like GPS spoofing, emulators, app cloning, and more without friction.
e. Balancing Fraud Prevention with Customer Experience
Excessive fraud prevention measures can directly conflict with the user experience. Customers often get frustrated with having to go through multiple security checks, a common issue for businesses using device or user identification to prevent fraud.
To enhance the experience, you need to find a balance between gathering the data required to prevent fraud and keeping the process smooth for customers. A device identification technology that can discreetly collect sufficient data for fraud prevention and identify fraud with absolute certainty without disrupting the customer journey. Look how ride-hailing unicorn InDrive has found this balance using SHIELD and has achieved over 99.77% genuine users on its platform.
f. Integration Challenges and Time Taken to Implement
Many fraud detection solutions take a significant amount of time to adapt to the business model and start functioning efficiently. Sellers around the world have experienced months of wasted effort trying to integrate fraud solutions into their platforms, only to find that they still do not provide accurate results. Additionally, some solutions require extensive Personally Identifiable Information (PII), which raises ethical concerns.
To overcome this challenge, it's essential to look for plug-and-play solutions that can be integrated into your business within minutes and begin identifying fraudsters from day one. There are advanced solutions available that are highly customizable, do not require additional PII data, and deliver results instantly.
These Challenges Are Not Insurmountable
While these challenges when implementing fraud detection and prevention solutions are real, they are not impossible to overcome. There are advanced fraud detection solutions tailored to address these pain points, offering smarter, faster, and more reliable ways to protect your business.
Implementing effective fraud detection and prevention solutions can help you combat fraud without disrupting operations or customer satisfaction.
The Solution: Device Fingerprinting-Based Fraud Detection and Prevention
Device fingerprinting-based fraud detection and prevention works by leveraging unique device attributes to build a unique profile for every user’s device when they access your website or app. The device fingerprinting is created by compiling various software and hardware attributes, such as:

Bethesda RPGs and games like them are hilarious to me because they take place in worlds where the average person's conflict resolution skills begin and end with "murder."
There's no talking things out, no levels of escalation, no asking for apologies, no nothing. If someone tries to talk to you, but they were looking at a small trinket on your desk worth half a penny, so they accidentally Stole That instead, the only solution to this problem is to immediately try and beat them to death with your own two hands.
Hell the entire town will join in on it too. they all care SO much about that vase or plate or sprig of nirnroot or whatever.
it's even better in oblivion where even HOLDING something that doesn't belong to you for a second counts as theft, denizens of the imperial city are notorious for how much they hate strangers fingerprints on their things. the knives and forks in bars and taverns are just for show, if you try to eat with them they'll call the royal guard to cut your hands off while half the patrons ineffectually bash their mitts against your full plate armour.
Trying to sleep in someone else's bed in the vvardenfell province of morrowind is punishable by vigilante execution, it's probably why divorce rates are so high there also.

and all i am, is a mess
Summary: Xavier reflects on your relationship for a bit and picks you up from your apartment for your date. He's surprised to find that (1), you just woke up, and (2), you're wearing his sweater.
Title from a misheard lyric from Sweater Weather by The Neighborhood
Tags: Xavier/MC, Xavier/Reader, Fluff (as usual), Established Relationship Xavier/MC, female MC, MC is shorter than Xavier in this one, Filipino MC (if you squint)
A/N: i wanted to experiment with writing xavier's a POV more. idk how i ended up with ~2k words of fluff no plot tho lmao. enjoy~
Tumblr media
After a few missed alarms, Xavier finally wakes up. The birds chirp, meaning that at least, it’s still morning. He’s in his own apartment, since he’d went home ahead after you told him you’d be staying out later than usual because of your girls’ night with Tara and Simone. As he sits up to turn off the alarm, he runs a hand through his messy bedhead, missing your heart eyes and the “Xavier, you’re so cute!” you let out whenever you see it.
It’s interesting how you’ve changed him. He thought that he could hide away his solemn devotion to you, that he could present a side of him that was serious, strong, and sincere in a way he was used to. But now, he’s waited so long for you that waking up alone without seeing your adorable, peaceful face (although you’d beg to differ on your looks, he can hear your voice begging him to delete the photos of you with drool), is time too long away from him. It’s childish, he knows. But he misses you.
But…he can bear the feeling for a few minutes more, because you did promise him that the two of you would go out today. Just a little bit more and he’d be able to spend some alone time with you outside of the Hunter’s Association. He’s always reminded you to adjust the part for life in work-life balance, and he’s glad to be a part of the solution.
So, Xavier goes about his routine. He attempts breakfast, looking for something easy to make lest the fire alarm ring, and settles for pork and beans. After a quick shower, he then pulls on his white jacket, black turtleneck, and jeans and brushes his hair, trying to style it in a way that looked both neat and messy. If you liked the wavy bedhead, surely there was a way to have a more presentable version of that? But despite his attempts, he still ends up with his usual hair. Before you, he wouldn’t have exerted this much effort in getting ready, but knowing that he’s seeing you makes him want to look good in front of you. After spritzing on his cologne and grabbing his keys and wallet, he heads to the 5th floor to meet his partner, probably awake and dressed.
Xavier’s about to ring the doorbell, but a glance at your digital lock reminds him— he could just let himself in. He’d reasoned out not using his fingerprint with “special circumstances,” but the look on your face when you told him you had imagined him using it regularly… right. His hand raps on the door thrice, remembering his promise to knock three times to let you know it was him. He chuckles at the memory, and the way you’d reassured him that he’s the only other person whose fingerprint is registered on your door lock.
To his surprise, though, there’s no smell of food, no indication that you were already awake. He calls out your name.
No response.
After removing his sneakers and putting on his house slippers, the hunter scans your kitchen and living room. The kitchen island and coffee table are clean, and the couch is exactly the way you had left it the morning before you both left for work yesterday. While you did enjoy sleeping in, especially when either of you would stay the night at each other’s respective apartments and had nothing to do the next day, you were usually punctual. It was usually you who’d knock on his door first, only to be greeted by a drowsy Xavier who had just woken up.
Perhaps this was a shift.
Xavier, careful to quiet his steps, pads towards your bedroom. In this unique chain of events, he’d gently rouse you from your slumber, kiss your head, and make you a quick coffee before you get dressed and head out on your date with him. You deserved to relax, and the two of you wouldn’t let a little bit of lateness impede your plans for the day, especially when simply spending time in each other’s presence was enough.
He’s about to put his hand on the knob before the door suddenly bursts open and reveals a frantic you with messy hair and pillow marks on your face.
“What— Xavier!”
You look up, head shifting quickly from his casual getup to the ocean blue of his eyes.
“What time is it? I’m so sorry! I overslept because I got home late and—”
He hears you, but then the signals of his brain tune out your panicked rambling as the first thing he sees after your cute expression is your body enveloped in his white sweater, falling past your hips and reaching mid-thigh. The sheer largeness of it on your frame makes you look smaller than you already are, and his eyes flit over to the way the sleeves cover your hands. Stars, you look nothing short of comfy in his sweater, and he’s inches away from carrying you back to your bed so he could cuddle you for the rest of the morning… or the whole day, even.
Now he’s short-circuiting too.
“Xavier!”
You call his attention.
His brain static goes silent. Oh, was he caught in the act?
You look at him with a pout, expecting a response to your embarrassment over being late and unprepared, because you really did like being On Time, and he knows that, so why isn’t he saying anything? Was he mad? The pout shifts to a resigned frown, and he realizes that he has to rectify the misunderstanding so that you don’t end up thinking things that simply aren’t true, even if he finds you adorable, big sweater and embarrassment and all.
“Come on, just wait on the couch, I need to wash up and change my clothes.”
You’re about to step aside him and move to your bathroom when he suddenly picks you up in a princess carry, hearing your surprised “Huh?!” and depositing you onto the couch. He flops on top of you, head right on your chest where he can hear your heartbeat, and embraces you once again, nuzzling into your warmth.
“Xavi…” your voice takes on a softer tone as you watch him get comfortable. “What are you doing? I thought we were going to go out today.”
He hugs you tighter and burrows his head into your chest and the soft cotton. He smells his usual cologne on the sweater, and smiles at the thought of you falling asleep to his scent. “We will. You’re just too cute. I couldn’t resist.”
Warmth also floods into your cheeks at his response. You look down at your boyfriend, very much happy and comfy, then at your hands, hidden under the white sleeves. “Wait…” you realize. Right, it’s Xavier’s.
Your voice fills the air. “When I got home last night, I just took a shower and changed quickly. Your sweater and my pajamas were the first thing I saw in my closet drawer, so I just took those.”
He feels your hands brush his bangs away, probably to check if he was still awake. He nods. “I’m listening.” He looks up to gaze contentedly at you. “I’m glad you got home safe.”
“You’re also glad I didn’t return your sweater.” You point out.
Xavier hums affirmatively, pleased.
Looking for something to do with your hands, you poke his cheek, then switch to pinching and pulling at it lightly.
“This is what I get for my generosity?” he pouts, and you return your hand to the spot on his back before he can grab it. Xavier hears you chuckle, and well, you’re smiling now, too, so that’s a win in his book. He lets himself sink into the plush of your chest, of you and the couch, and there isn’t anywhere else he wants to be.
“It’s called cute aggression, Xav. Gigil,* if you will.” He adjusts himself upward so that he can slot his head into the space between your neck and shoulder.
“Mhm, is that so?”
Xavier continues cuddling you, listening to your breathing and heartbeat. You feel his arms wrap slightly tighter around your torso, and you resign yourself to running your fingers through his moonlight hair, playing with the strands, while your other free hand settles on his back. The noontime sun begins to stream in through your window, and his hair catches in the light. The two of you stay this way for a few more moments before your shoulder starts to feel numb, because as lovely as holding Xavier is, his height means that he is heavier than you are.
Your voice, again, fills his ears, soft and coaxing. “Xavi, this is really nice. But I want to go to the bookstore. and the park, and the noodle restaurant. Also, heavy.” Xavier acquiesces, always weak for your voice (a simp is what you had once called him), and shifts your positions, the two of you moving around on the couch so that you’re leaning on his chest this time, facing him and snug between his legs.
“Was there anything else you wanted to do today?” He tucks the stray strands of hair behind your ear, locking his ocean blue eyes with yours. “Well… I also wanted to play video games when we got home. Hmm... It Takes Two?”
He lets out a quiet laugh. You’re pretty, he thinks, in his clothes and bathed in sunlight and just doing whatever You does. “We can, but we have all the time in the world right here. You should relax.” He brings another stray lock of hair away from your face, and you sigh contentedly.“
Apart from the fact that I’ve kidnapped your sweater, what else is going on with you?”
“Me?”
He takes a moment to think. Was he acting strangely? Was it weird to be so lovestruck by your girlfriend? Notwithstanding the fact that you were wearing his clothes, he’d always find you cute. And do anything for you in a heartbeat. What did you notice? He would respond with something witty, try to recover some semblance of calm and collected Xavier, but the earnestness in his heart makes him honest, and he looks in your eyes again.
“I just missed you.”
“Silly, it was just a night.” “Still. Unless you didn’t miss the person you left behind.” He feels your hand smooth the parts of his hair you played with earlier, and you tilt your head up to kiss him. Upon feeling your lips on his, he returns the kiss. Xavier then moves his hand to your lower back, supporting you as you lean towards him again. Your hand rests on his shoulder while the other cups his face, bringing him closer to you. One kiss becomes two, and three, and you feel his tongue run across your lip before you move away, the two of you already gasping for air.
“Xavier,” He looks at you again, his guiding starlight and the reason he wakes up in the mornings. You feel his hand moving from your arm to your hand, thumb stroking the back of your palm, and you grin. You hope he knows how adored, how loved he makes you feel. “Dummy. Of course I missed you too.” Xavier gives a relaxed chuckle, and pulls you in again for a hug before kissing the top of your head.
Maybe this was devotion too. Sometimes, he doesn’t recognize himself, but if it’s someone that you’re still willing to love and miss— he’s perfectly fine with change.
And this was, a good start to the very good day Xavier and his girlfriend would have.

A Not-So-Disastrous Romance (Book 3) Chapter Four
Saiki Kusuo x Reader
Chapter Four: Annoying Interruption
Summary: Saiki explains the state of the world to (Y/N), and their show is interrupted by the worse guy.
(Y/N) leaned on Saiki as they watched the TV. It was a show called “Midnight Sweets,” so, of course, they both loved it, even if it required staying up until midnight.
            “Kusuo?” said (Y/N).
            Saiki looked at them.
“Are you going to explain why we don’t change heights?” asked (Y/N). “We’re not busy right now.”
Saiki nodded. He did need to tell them. “I’m resetting Earth.”
“Wow, you can do that?” said (Y/N).
“Yes,” said Saiki. “And when I do, we go back, too. So we don’t grow.”
(Y/N) paused. “Is that why we’ve been in the same year of school for forever?”
“You noticed that?” Saiki deadpanned. The fact they didn’t find that weirder was incredible.
            “Well, yeah,” said (Y/N) matter-of-factly.
            “And you didn’t care?”
“Should I have?” said (Y/N), tilting their head.
            They’re adorable.
“Once I learned you were a psychic, I figured you had something to do with that, and you wouldn’t do something for no reason, so I let it go.” (Y/N) shrugged. “I trust you.”
Oh, wow. Saiki loved them. “I love you.”
(Y/N) smiled. “I love you, too! But continue, why are you turning the Earth back?”
“A volcano is going to erupt in Oshimai and create a chain reaction that destroys the world,” said Saiki. “I’m trying to stop it, but I haven’t found the solution. I’m not strong enough to stop it, so I turn the Earth back a year.”
“You’ve been doing that for us?” said (Y/N).
            Saiki nodded.
“Thank you.” (Y/N) hugged him tightly. “You keep having to do things by yourself. I’m sorry.”
Saiki’s eyes widened, and he gently hugged them back. “It’s alright.”
“No.” (Y/N) shook their head. “Kusuo, you have me and our friends to support you. If we can do anything, tell us, okay? You don’t have to do this alone.”
Saiki pulled them closer. “Thank you.” He really, really, really loved them.
“Of course, Kusuo,” said (Y/N), pecking him on the lips before settling down beside him again.
Saiki couldn’t help smiling to himself as he looked back at the TV screen. (Y/N) caught the smile and laughed lightly.
“Our guest tonight is the actor Tooru Mugami,” said the host on tv.
“Good evening,” said Makoto (Teruhashi Makoto).
Saiki turned off the TV, and (Y/N) made an “ew” face. However, after a moment, Saiki turned the show back on.
“He’s ruining our sweet time,” said Saiki.
“Why do people like him so much? He’s a weirdo,” said (Y/N).
“Do you like sweets, Mr. Mugami?” asked the host.
“To be honest, I don’t like sweets very much,” said Makoto.
“Why are you here, then?” said Saiki.
“Because he wants the money,” said (Y/N).
“But my sister loves sweets,” said Makoto.
“And because he loves his sister,” said (Y/N), grimacing.
“In the wrong way,” said Saiki.
“Kokomi hasn’t realized just how weird he is, but she doesn’t like him, either,” said (Y/N), pleased. “Hopefully he’ll get that through his skull.”
(Y/N) dislikes two people—Saiko and Makoto, thought Saiki.
“Yes, so I want to tell her about delicious sweets,” continued Makoto.
“What do you like about her most?” asked the host.
“Weird question,” said (Y/N), and Saiki nodded.
“This is hard,” said Makoto. “First, she’s the prettiest girl in the universe, also her hair, the shapes of her ears, and her voice are the best. And her smell, clear skin, hands, fingers, and fingerprints…I mentioned too much about her appearance. Of course, I love her personality and everything. For example, she’s nice to everybody. And she cares about family. She’s smart, polite, and considerate to others, but sometimes she wants to be cared for.”
“I think that’s enough…” said the host, awkwardly trailing off.
“Kusuo, if I asked you to expose him with your abilities, would you?” said (Y/N) innocently.
Saiki decided not to answer because it would be a yes, and that wouldn’t end well. Unfortunately, he was soft for (Y/N) (the understatement of the century).
“This is a show about sweets—” said the host.
“Are you saying that my sister is not a sweet?!” said Makoto.
            “She’s not, is she?”
“But she gives me smiles a lot sweeter than any sweets!”
“Let’s go to bed,” huffed (Y/N).
            “Right,” said Saiki.
“Okay, let’s make a fresh start now,” said the host. “Our sweet tonight is coffee jelly.”
Saiki was back on the couch before another word was said, and he was dragging (Y/N) back to cuddle again.
“Here is the café we’re visiting today,” said the host.
“I have no choice but to watch it,” said Saiki.
(Y/N) laughed but cuddled up to Saiki again. “Oh, Kusuo,” they said fondly.
“This is their signature dish, coffee jelly,” said the host, and the dessert looked mouthwateringly delicious. “They take three hundred orders or more on a busy day.”
“Which café is this?” said Saiki, staring with shining eyes.
“Look at this delicacy and its beautiful shape,” said the host. “The spoon goes in like it’s being sucked into it. It shines bright like gems. How does it taste, Mr. Mugami?”
“Go away.” Saiki didn’t want to watch him eat that delicious treat.
“Mr. Mugami is visiting with us to give some comments,” reminded the host.
            “I wish he didn’t,” sighed (Y/N).
            “Mr. Mugami, how is it?”
            “Me?” said Makoto. “It’s yummy!”
            “That’s it?”
“Lazy,” said (Y/N). “I don’t think he can talk about anything except for his sister.”
“We don’t even know where he went,” said Saiki.
“Here, we’ve got the same coffee jellies he tried at the café,” said the host as a cart was rolled into the studio. “Let’s eat.”
“I already tried it, so I’m okay,” said Makoto.
“Ingrate,” remarked (Y/N) blandly. It was, after all, a fact.
“Can I have it to go?” said Makoto.
(Y/N) and Saiki groaned. They knew who it was for.
“Please, try it again,” said the host. This was for the sake of the show.
Makoto relented and tasted it. “It’s still yummy.”
“He’s really not good at this, is he?” said (Y/N).
Makoto brightened. “Since I put it in my mouth, my mouth has been filled with the rich coffee aroma, and I feel the beautiful harmony of its richness and savory flavor. It’s so yummy.”
“He’s reading lines.” Saiki and (Y/N) could see him obviously staring at the prompter.
“Thank you,” said the host. “Here is the café’s information.”
            “Finally,” said Saiki.
            “The name is—”
            “It’s so yummy.”
            “And it’s located at—”
“I had no idea that it would be so good.”
            “Their business hours are—”
“I should get some for her.”
Makoto kept speaking over the host.
            “Shut him up,” said Saiki.
“And for this show’s viewers only, you can try the coffee jelly at half price!” announced the host.
“We have to go,” said (Y/N) and Saiki.
“Tell them, ‘I love Tooru Mugami’ at the checkout!” said the host.
“No way,” amended (Y/N) and Saiki.
“He has one final announcement,” said the host.
            “Yes, it’s my movie—”
Saiki turned off the TV for good. “Our sweets time was ruined.”
(Y/N) leaned their head on his shoulder. “At least we had to endure him together instead of alone.” They chuckled. “That would’ve been really bad.”
They stood and headed to the stairs to go to bed ((Y/N) was sleeping over, and no one cared where they slept since Saiki and (Y/N) were both asexual. No awkward parent conversations!)
            “Kokomi…”
(Y/N) and Saiki stared. Makoto stood in the doorway of Saiki’s house, staring into space.
“What are you doing here?” said (Y/N), eyes wide and clearly creeped out.
“Don’t come in without asking,” said Saiki.
            “It’s midnight!” said (Y/N).
“I had a lover’s spat with Kokomi again,” said Makoto.
“You’re not lovers,” said (Y/N), disgusted.
“Don’t come here, we’re not your friends,” said Saiki.
“She said, ‘Don’t talk about me on TV!’ ” said Makoto, tears in his eyes.
“Yeah, well, don’t ignore her boundaries, and she wouldn’t get mad,” said (Y/N), hands on their hips.
“Just leave now. Seriously,” said Saiki. “I don’t want to see you face.”
“What should I do with these?” sighed Makoto, holding up his plastic bag. Six coffee jellies rested in it. “I have all these coffee jellies for Kokomi, but she said she didn’t want them and pushed them back at me. What should I do? Will you help me out?”
(Y/N) and Saiki exchanged a look.
“We’ll take them,” said (Y/N), grabbing the bag.
“As payment for disturbing us,” said Saiki, pushing Makoto out the door the closing it.
            “…Midnight snack?” said (Y/N).
            “Yes.” No hesitation needed.
l
            “Saiki?”
            Saiki turned as Teruhashi spoke.
            “Can I talk to you?”
Saiki paused, listened to her thoughts, and nodded.
Teruhashi cleared her throat and blushed nervously. “I, uh…I used to like you!” She bowed. “I know you’re dating (Y/N), and I respect that, but I wanted you to know. I need to get it off my chest.”
Saiki just nodded. He could hear her thoughts; she was telling the truth. Teruhashi was nearly almost him, and this was part of her moving on. Did Saiki ever want anyone to find out Teruhashi liked him? No. There would be no peace on earth. But did Saiki want her to move on so she and (Y/N) could be friends and (Y/N) could be happy? Yes. Saiki could put with this.
“So, um, thank you for listening.” Teruhashi smiled shyly. “And I hope you and (Y/N) are happy.”
            “We are,” said Saiki.
“Good,” said Teruhashi. “(Y/N)’s a good person.” She nodded and hurried walked away before she had to talk about more anxiety-inducing topics.
Maybe Teruhashi isn’t so bad, thought Saiki. She cared about (Y/N). That got Saiki’s good opinion.
“What was that?” said (Y/N), watching Teruhashi bolt around the corner of the hall.
“She admitted she liked me,” said Saiki.
“She had to get it off her chest,” said (Y/N), nodding in understanding.
“You trust her a lot,” said Saiki.
“Well, yeah,” said (Y/N). “She’s my friend. And she doesn’t have a ‘crush-crush’ on you. She likes that you treat her like a person—”
            “She annoys me.”
“—all your friends annoy you,” said (Y/N). “Anyways, she has more people in her life now that her friends, not her admirers, so she’ll find someone she really likes who they are and like her for who she is.” They paused. “Maybe I should encourage her and Rifuta…”
            “No.”
            “What? Why?” said (Y/N).
“The world would bend to their will too much,” said Saiki.
(Y/N) laughed. Saiki cracked a smile at their expression.

Doll Picking Lawyer: DCS
This is the doll picking lawyer and today I have for you a 51N531 model combat doll from Doll Combat Solutions.
"Release me now!"
Now, for a combat drone or doll, you must always take proper precautions. Which is why I have this one currently shackled to my basement wall. Thankfully, this is a melee variant, so it does not have ranged attacks that could be activated while in a restrained state.
"Im gonna kill you when i get out of here!"
The body of this doll is actually quite tough. Its made of titanium and thus can withstand a majority of brute force attacks. This makes it ideal for deployment in heavy combat areas. Being the melee variant, it comes with a wide array of blades and blunt weaponry, all of which are currently locked in my safe and out of reach. I cannot stress enough the importance of safety and precaution when dealing with combat dolls.
"Im gonna slice you in half! You cant keep me here forever!"
All in all, the 51N531 model is an impressive bit of engineering. However, its back panel has a significant flaw. Normally, the only way to open and access the internal control panel is with a fingerprint scanner on the back panel. The issue here is how easily you can get around that with a simple paperclip and some knowledge of the electronic locking mechanism.
"DONT YOU DARE TOUCH THAT"
As you can see, theres a small space between the panel and the body itself. So all we have to do is slide this bent paperclip in and connect the NC and COM terminals on the cuircit board. It can take a moment to get the positioning just right, but... and there we have it. The panel door is open.
"GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE YOU BASTARD IM GONNA-" the combat doll stops as it powers down.
And just like that, i have access to its control panel and can now do whatever i please with this drone.
All in all, i would say this is an amazing unit, though posessing of one fatal flaw. If it werent for this one design oversight, i would highly reccomend adding this doll to your armory. In any case thats all i have for you today. As always, have a nice day. Thank you.

Stone grew up lonely. Every other word out of his parents' mouths, his teachers' and siblings' was 'we'. 'This is what we do', 'that's just the way we think', 'we believe that's what happens'. He was never quite sure if everyone else genuinely felt connected all like that, one massive web across the globe sharing all these tiny little connectors, or if it was another lie. Either way, he wasn't stupid--he saw the way people started to watch him from a young age, too blank and quiet compared to the children around him, how they flinched back when they pushed him too far and he lashed out. If they were God's sheep, he was the wolf amongst the herd, quiet and docile up until something made him snap. He didn't blame them. He could watch, stuck behind reactions he couldn't control and didn't know how to change, observe exactly how different he was, how far even from the edges of their proclaimed crowd he'd been left behind. He'd grown up, though, turned the ivory mask of his face into an asset instead of a failing, the constant calm and the sudden violence into his tools, and made something useful of himself. It took longer than it should have for him to realize that he didn't have to be useful to the people who'd abandoned him. It took meeting the doctor. For the first time, Stone felt the addicting rush of being a speck of dust in the universe, some tiny miniscule part of a whole greater than he could comprehend. If he could be there to bring the doctor coffee, fill out the paperwork and herd squirming, bigheaded superiors away from his work, keep the rest of the mundane, everyday world as far as possible from the doctor's singular brilliance, he was something. It didn't matter how many times the doctor yelled, the insults that spilled off his tongue like being caught in a torrential downpour; painful and shocking and dangerous, but exhilarating if you were brave enough. The shattered coffee cups and raving and soreness of his jaw in the blooming shape of fingers was nothing compared to the electrifying experience of watching the doctor demonstrate the seamless flight pattern of a new swarm and know he'd soldered the seams and coated the wiring for some of that perfection. Stone had waved goodbye to any religion he'd been raised with three days into his acquaintance with the doctor. It wasn't like his parents' god had given him anything more or less than the doctor could provide, and he'd never felt like he could leave his fingerprints on the world more than he did watching the doctor wipe the smudges of them off the badniks' lenses. The doctor was indifferent. Any praise or condemnation on his part was mercurial, forgotten or remembered according to a pattern as senseless as the topography of a junk drawer. Stone was ultimately beneath his notice; nothing more than a stepping stone, a cupholder, an easy way to dispose of snags in his plans in the form of men with weapons capable of tearing open the fragile human shell containing his untouchable brilliance. He was universes away from Stone, and Stone was nothing more than a faceless solution to minor annoyances. But he was the one who got to stand here, who got to serve the doctor, argue for him and squabble for him and spill blood for him. It was more than anything he'd ever dreamed of getting, and everything he could have wanted.
