Charred Briar Roses
Prologue
This is a slightly dark take on Sleeping Beauty, takes more inspiration from ‘The Sun, The Moon, and Talia’. @giorno-plays-piano gave me the inspiration with her Orc!Bucky story, Desire.
Summary: You and your twin sisters have constantly been told not to not to venture into the northwest tower, but it looked so inviting. Now you’ve doomed yourself and your sisters to sleep for 600 years and be woken up by orc-human hybrids and not the extremely handsome princes that your mother had all but assured you. Well, at least things can’t get any worse…right?
Parings: Orc!Bucky x Black!Reader, Orc!Steve x Black!OFC, Orc!Sam x Black!OFC
Word Count: 849
Warnings: Semi-Graphic Depictions of Violence, Smut, Non-Con. You’ve been warned.

Tumblr media
In a time and place not here and not now, there was a vast and powerful kingdom rich in precious metals, stones, agriculture, commerce, technology, and the arts.
The king and queen were beloved by the people…but they had no children. They tried for years, but to no avail. The populace was worried because while the king and queen were benevolent, the king’s brother, Prince Sophronius, was a nightmare.
After exhausting all other options, they went to a medical witch for a potion that would induce fertility. The queen gave birth to triplets ten months later to great joy and fanfare across the kingdom. They were named Ghada (graceful woman), Fumnanya (love me), and Y/N.
Ambassadors and dignitaries from all over attended the public naming ceremony. The most notable guests were the Fae. Each one gave all three princesses a gift: Supernatural Beauty, Intelligence and Curiosity, Enhanced Condition & Combat Prowess, Wit, Empathy, and would bring great fortune to their loved ones. The last Fairy was about to give her gift when the Dark Fairy crashed the event.
She claimed that she was not invited (in reality, she was paid by Sophronius) and gave the triplets a gift of her own. When they turn 18, one of them will go up to the Northwest Tower, find and prick her finger on a spindle, all three will die and the kingdom will fall. And with that, she cackled and left.
All seemed lost until that Last Fairy, Aoife, spoke up. She couldn’t fully undo the curse, but she could modify it. Instead of dying, they would fall into a deep slumber until they are awakened by a kiss from their match.
The king and queen took all the precautions. They had all textile production take place far from the capital and sealed the Northwest Tower (they tried to destroy it, but the Dark Fairy already had countermeasures put in place). All the Fae who gave the triplets their gifts became their tutors.
The princesses became quite the adorable and precocious trio, if not a little mischievous with their pranks and ‘adventures’ throughout the capital.
All three came to have warm russet-brown skin with coral undertones and long dark purple hair that cascaded in luxurious curls (think 3b/3c hair). Their only difference in appearance was their eyes. Ghada’s was Tropical Ocean Blue/Silver Hazel, Fumnanya’s Bright Gold/Dark Sepia Brown Hazel, and Y/N’s was Light Forest Green/Midnight Blue Hazel.
They were taught/trained in History, Math, Science, Engineering, Governance, Medicine, Combat, and the Arts. Anything to keep them busy, and they soaked it up like super sponges.
All was well with their lives…until puberty hit them like an armored elephant.
Everyone commented on how beautiful/stunning they were. Almost all of the boys and some of the girls would ask them out on dates. Some of the older men would give them lecherous stares and older women would give them glances of spite or pity. They started getting marriage offers at 14, but their parents, particularly their mother was adamantly against it. No negotiations would be made until they were certain the curse had passed.
The girls got annoyed and sad with the attention they received. They felt like they had so much to offer besides their beauty and wealth.
The girls themselves somehow all liked cooking, combat, and governance. Ghada was more outgoing and sociable and liked reading, languages, and the Arts. Fumnanya was more reserved, but pretty funny once you got passed her shell. She liked history, medicine, plants, and science. Y/N was pretty mischievous and she liked tech/engineering, math, science, and the Arts.
The whole kingdom was aglow with joy when the princesses’ 18th birthday finally arrived. The palace was busy getting ready for the birthday celebration. The servants decorated the place with their favorite colors, and the cooks were working on a fantastic feast of their favorite foods.
Everything was right on schedule until one of the guards heard a scream and a thud from the Northwest Tower.
All three princesses fell into a deep slumber and Aoife started working on the spell for the capital when Sophronius and his followers rushed in and killed the king.
That action soon led to a battle that lasted for three days. It ended with three of the Fae getting killed, but Sophronius not getting the throne and its riches (especially the Nephrashim Crystal). Almost all were banned from the capital except for the princesses.
Aoife refurbished their shared rooms and the palace. She had the capital nearly frozen in time; every 200 years would be an hour for the capital and one year for the princesses. She surrounded the capital with thick thorn bushes guarded by an ever-vigilant dragon and that was surrounded by forest and shrouded by mist.
Sophronius tried to send some of his men to awaken the princesses, but they kept getting killed by the dragon or the thorn bushes. He decided to cut his losses after ten years and move on.
The princesses faded into myth and it would be 600 years before anyone would lay eyes on them again.

HEADCANON. Diwali headcanons galore! I’ve done them in bits and pieces but today I’m going to lay them all put for you all! Click any of the links for images or a description!
         BEFORE DIWALI
i. The minute Halloween/his Birthday is over, Caspian begins prepping for Diwali. He will never prepare before Halloween, only after! Depending on when Diwali falls in closeness to Halloween, this either gives him a good amount of time, or NO TIME AT ALL. It’s during this time that he will buy all the gifts, decorations, and grocery shopping. This is also when he would start asking people if they would be okay with receiving gifts from him on Diwali.
ii. Caspian always buys a new outfit for himself and Makena every year! For Makena it usually varies between a saree or a churidar. For Caspian he tends to stick to modern Indian fashion trends –– though more often than not you will find him in a kurta.
iii. Caspian tries to make sure all of his gifts have an element of being hand-made (either by him or by others). Diwali gifting isn’t about grandness but meaning and effort. This means usually he makes people “kits” or “bundles” of things that they would enjoy that also come from his culture. The cultural aspect is important to him, so often times the gifts will have some connection to his culture.
iv. the night before Diwali, Caspian will clear his meditation space and use the floor there to create rangoli –– works of art created from powdery paint. He will spread it on the floor, and usually this takes hours. Usually he opts to do a mandala given that it looks really nice in the room, but he may also chose to draw things like a peacock or tiger. He will sing mantras while he does this –– to him, it is a form of meditation and preparation to let light enter his household for the next year. He will also place Diyas on the tips of the mandalas where they seem fit.
         ON DIWALI
i. Caspian will wake up and do an extended bout of mediation and prayer. He will not do this in his meditation room due to the rangoli, but he will do it in the living room area.
ii. After his prayer he will bathe and shower. He will do his hair and leave it long before dressing into his outfit for the day. It’s then that he will apply his Tilak –– which he will wear all day. The application of tilak for Caspian, symbolizes his willingness to be close to his gods. He wears tilak often enough on non-holiday events that most people in his life would have seen him wearing tilak before.
iii. Caspian takes the whole day off of work if the date lands on a weekday. He spends the whole day preparing the house. He will move furniture around, he will practice many pujas during the day and will also prepare all the diyas other ghee lamps for that evening.
iv. After noon-hour, Caspian will no longer use electric lights. He will turn off all the lights and when the house becomes too dark, he will light the diyas he’s prepared.
v.  Caspian spends most of the afternoon cooking. Samosas and pakoras and chutneys and kebabs and masalas and oH MY GOD SO MUCH FOOD. The man cooks like theres no tomorrow. He will also make fresh mango lassi and various other treats for desserts! While he’s not good at baking or making sweets, he often buys them from a local Indian market.
vi. Caspian will go out to the market after getting everything pretty much cooked. He’ll visit the local shops and buy last minute items he might have forgot. He will also stop by a flower shop and pick up a few bouquets of marigolds. He will use these to decorate by leaving the heads of the marigolds about the house –– everywhere. He might also purchase, or later make garland out of them!
vii. Around 5pm is when his family starts to come over. Mavahir and Deke always come over. Sometimes he will also have his Aunties and Uncles as well as his Cousin come over too. They all gather and chat and pray and celebrate the day and what it means. They exchange gifts and sing together.
viii. While Caspian cannot do mehindi, both his Auntie and his Aapa are very good at it. One of the first activities him and his family do (while there’s still some day light) is get some mehindi done together. Men and woman participate in this! Caspian adores it. Caspian will often get Mehindi on his feet & his wrists.
x. It isn’t until around 9pm when they actually will sit down for their meal. And by sit down, I mean walk around the living room, sit on any bit of floor space they can find, and start to eat. Caspian will make mostly finger food for Diwali as it’s easier to eat while sitting down without a table.
xi. The house would feel like a temple during Diwali. Tranquil and warm with rich foods all around. Diyas will be lit all afternoon and night, and Caspian will let them burn on and on. Usually the family doesn’t end up leaving the house until at least midnight, sometimes even later.
         AFTER DIWALI
i. Caspian uses diwali as a way to shed the ills of the year. He uses it as a way to flush out the ache in his chest that lasted all October. Sometimes, it isn’t easy. But after Diwali Caspian seems happy and refreshed.
ii. Caspian will often leave much of the decorations up after Diwali. There’s often a lot of leftovers so the family lives off that for about a week. Caspian doesn't like to see Diwali go, so he genuinely takes his time purposefully when cleaning things up. His mediation room is always the first thing to be cleaned up.
iii. Caspian will wear Tilak for days after diwali.

Argentina
Tumblr media
Argentina is the quintessential south. Half of the local realities proudly wear the title "the southernmost. To begin with, there's the world's southernmost railroad: Argentina's answer to the bourgeois Orient Express and the harsh domestic Trans-Siberian Railroad - the Patagonian broad gauge, built, by the way, with a continental scope: about 30 years of work and unprecedented for such distant lands amenities - Fiat Concord cars with different twists, like porcelain sinks and carved chairs, and special trailers to transport cars. Then there's the southernmost city on the planet, Ushuaia, on the promenade by the harbor which is so nice to contemplate the summer apricot sunsets. Finally - the southernmost glaciers on Earth (not counting, of course, the pole), with a constant dry crackle sliding down from the mountains to the crystal "silver" lakes of Lago Argentino. An added bonus: Patagonia, immortalized by Monsieur Verne, known to all of us since childhood, is also located here. In general, "he who is merry - he laughs, he who wants - he will achieve, he who seeks - he will always find!" The capital is Buenos Aires.
Resorts in Argentina
Tumblr media
Photo by imprintmytravel on Pixabay Argentina has both sea and ski resorts. Interesting cities in terms of tourism are Salta, Cordoba, El Calafate, and the southernmost city of Ushuaia. Natural attractions are Iguazu, Southern Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego.
Visa to Argentina
Tumblr media
Photo by grebmot on Pixabay A visa is not required to visit Argentina if the trip does not exceed 90 days. Learn more about visa to Argentina. However you will need to obtain a medical insurance for the whole trip in advance. Is it possible to extend your Argentine visa, while you are in the country? Customs Import and export of local and foreign currencies is not limited, but the sums over 10 000 USD need to be declared. You can bring into the country up to 400 cigarettes (or 50 cigars), up to 2 liters of liquor, up to 5 kg of canned foods, souvenirs and gifts not exceeding 300 USD and things for personal needs. When importing these items in excess of this amount, a duty of 50% of their value is levied. It is prohibited to import non-canned food products, items and things of historical, artistic or archaeological value (without a special permit), as well as weapons. When exporting wool and leather goods, jewelry and souvenirs must present a receipt of the store where they were purchased. When exporting furs, an export stamp receipt will be required.
A little history
Tumblr media
Photo by jstarj on Pixabay Incredible, but true: in the early 20th century Argentina was considered perhaps the richest country in the world. There was even a saying: "As rich as an Argentinean". Thousands of Europeans tried to find prosperity in the picturesque foothills of the Andes - Southern Italians, Basques who moved from the Pyrenees, Galicians and Catalans, Germans and Austrians and Swiss, Irish and Scots, Russians, Ukrainians and Jews. Despite the government's best efforts to repopulate Argentina's empty territories, they did not succeed, as most immigrants eventually settled in or around the capital. Patagonian Indians were exterminated almost to the last, Africans did not survive the wars with Brazil and Paraguay. Thus a "white" country emerged in South America, Catholic in spirit, Spanish in way of thinking, and French in way of life.
Transport in Argentina
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Long distances in the country are most convenient and fastest to travel by plane due to the extensive network of airways and the presence of airports in major cities. It is better to book tickets in advance, and you should also keep in mind that there are flight delays. Rail transport in the country is popular, but in some areas is not well developed. Special tourist trains run in the Patagonia and Mesopotamia regions, and urban transport is represented by buses, commuter trains and cabs. Buenos Aires also has a subway. In 1906, the newly elected president of Argentina raised the question of the development of the national territories: thus began the era of the Patagonian Railroad. But only a couple of decades later the operating line finally connected the major center of Bahia Blanca and the southern tip of Buenos Aires province, the city of Carmen de Patagonese, across the river from which lies Viedma, the capital of the neighboring province and the door to Patagonia… International bus routes connect Argentina with neighboring countries: Chile, Bolivia, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Brazil. From Jujuy and Salta there are buses to La Chiaqua, from where you can cross the Bolivian border on foot or by cab. From the same cities you can go to the Bolivian town of Jacuibo, located right on the border, where buses go to the Bolivian department of Santa Cruz. With Chilean cities Argentina is connected by routes from Salta to San Pedro de Atacama, from Mendoza to Santiago, from Bariloche to Puerto Montt, from Ushuaia to Punta Arenas. All cabs in Argentina are equipped with meters, which must be turned on when the passenger boards.
Safety in Argentina
Because there are few "Russo tourists" in the country, locals consider them exotic and the attitude is friendly and helpful. However, certain security measures do not cancel it: it is not recommended to leave the tourist centers alone (especially in the evening), you should not carry large sums of money, expensive jewelry and so on. It is recommended to drink bottled or boiled water. Swimming in the ocean can only be strictly in designated areas: in unequipped areas it is dangerous because of the strong coastal currents.
Interesting facts
The "silver country" has a lot to show the world: tango, Evita Perón, soccer and the most beautiful woman president - just the beginning of the list. Argentina offers, in record time, some of the most bizarre experiences the opposite hemisphere has to offer: a glacier that never stops murmuring, a wander through the streets of the southernmost city, a tango lesson in the street (and if you are lucky, even a milonger standing ovation!), a sail to the legendary Cape Horn, or even an Antarctic cruise. With no visa formalities, to get from winter Russia right into the Argentine summer, all you need is spare time and a fair amount of money. Argentina is known as one of the world's leading wine producers, but adherents of tequila, whiskey, vodka or brandy are also not lacking in their favorite beverages.
Climate of Argentina
Argentina's climate is subtropical in the north, humid tropical in the center, and temperate in the south. Don't forget that in the southern hemisphere winter and summer coincide with ours in exactly the opposite way. The Andean region is characterized by rainy weather and frequent flooding in the summer season, intense heat in the summer, snow cover in the mountains in the winter, and frequent dry hot winds, which Argentinians call "zonda". The temperature variations are considerable both between the seasons and within a single day. In the plains, it often rains heavily over impenetrable rainforests and savannahs. The average temperature is +5 ° C in January and +20 to +22 ° C in July. Summer (December to February) is the best time to visit Patagonia and the Southern Andes. Winter (May through September) is the best time to travel through the northern and northwestern parts of the country. Spring and autumn are the perfect time to visit Buenos Aires, the Inter-Mediterranean region and the Cordillera foothills of La Rioja and Catamarca. And fans of skiing can hone their skills on the slopes of snow-capped Argentine Andes from June to October. The best time to visit the country - from October to May. Up-to-date information: weather forecast for the main resorts in Argentina in the coming days. Hotels in Argentina There are two types of hotels in Argentina - local and international "chains". The first are usually inclined to attribute an extra star to themselves undeservedly, while the level of the latter fully comply with the declared. There are few all-inclusive hotels in the country; in general the hotels offer either breakfasts or half board. The mains voltage is 220 V, 50 Hz. There are two-pin plugs and three-pin plugs. You are advised to bring your own plugs. Tango in Argentina
Tumblr media
Photo by fsHH on Pixabay Perhaps everyone knows about the Argentine origin of the tango. Of the fact that it has long been considered, say, not too decent even in their own homeland, probably, are well aware of many (it is known that the champions of strict morality considered tango as a prelude to sex, rather than a dance). But one funny nuance, directly connected with the above-mentioned point, remained almost unknown. It turns out that when the tango began to gain popularity among male audience, its first fans faced with a severe shortage of partners during the training: decent girls in any way did not want to do "it", and dancing lessons in brothels were too expensive. However, they found a way out: men simply began to learn tango dancing… with each other! By the way, according to some researchers, this is what gave a strong impetus to the development of dance and enriched it with new movements.
Banks and exchange offices
The currency unit of the country is the Argentinean peso (ARS). 1 peso has 100 centavos. The current exchange rate: 1 ARS = 0.76 RUB (1 USD = 95.77 ARS, 1 EUR = 113.64 ARS). Currency can be exchanged in all banks and large shopping centers, hotels and specialized exchange offices. American Express, Visa, Master Card and Eurocard are accepted at major stores, hotels and restaurants. But in the provinces it is almost impossible to pay with them. You should not take traveler's checks with you. Exchange offices charge high commission for cashing them out, besides, it is almost impossible to exchange them in small towns. Most banks and exchange offices use a ticketing system - instead of standing in line a visitor receives a ticket with a number and then waits until the number is called by a clerk. It must be said that this procedure is more time-consuming than the usual live line.
Shopping and Shops in Argentina
In Argentina, inexpensive and high-quality shopping. From the country you can bring knives, silver mouthpieces, mate tea with a set for its preparation and use (calebasse and metal tubes), sheepskin products, clothing made from vicuña wool, Argentine wines, guitars, art, and quite good furs. When exporting wool and leather goods, you must present a receipt from the store where they were purchased. When leaving the country, you can reclaim VAT on purchases over $70 USD. In Ushuaia, in the free trade zone, purchases will be particularly advantageous. https://vimeo.com/122515337
Cuisine and restaurants
Tumblr media
Photo by Mgg Vitchakorn on Unsplash To start with a little advice: forget about fish restaurants in Argentina. It's almost impossible to find them there, and even if you do, you'll regret it. Argentina is meat! One of the best in the world. And wine. Argentine chefs are known for their masterful handling of beef. In addition, after a trip to the country's restaurants, a tourist may well have the impression that he or she has visited almost all of South America - so fond are the local chefs to "borrow" recipes from their neighbors on the continent. The same is true for alcoholic beverages. Argentina is known as one of the world's leading wine producers, but fans of tequila, whiskey, vodka, or brandy are never short of their favourite drinks. Well, the leisure of ideological or unintentional opponents of alcohol will be brightened up by genuine mate in authentic calabas, traditionally drunk through a silver tube. Tipping in Argentina amounts to 5-10% of the bill for service; in expensive establishments it is often already included in the bill. If you decide to treat yourself to a famous restaurant, especially on a weekend, be sure to reserve a table in advance. Otherwise you'll have to stand in a decent line at the entrance. All restaurants on the Atlantic coast prepare excellent dishes of seafood. The "specialty" of Argentina are the "empanadas" pastries, which are considered a Spanish contribution to local cooking. Argentinians have a late dinner, at 9 p.m. at the earliest. Until then, most restaurants serve only light snacks such as pizzas and sandwiches: the "big kitchen" doesn't start until after dark.
Wines of Argentina
Tumblr media
Photo by Maja Petric on Unsplash Wine in Argentina is very decent. The local culture of viticulture and winemaking is a kind of symbiosis of European traditions. Even the grape varieties that are grown here seem to have been selected according to the principle "the best from each country. From France - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay, from Italy - Sangiovese and Bonarda, from Spain - Cempranillo, from Germany - Riesling. Any wine from 200 ARS and up will be very decent. "Top five": Cheval des Andes 2002 (Terrazas de los Andes), Vistalba Corte A 2004 (Finca y Bodega Vistabla), Iscay 2002 (Trapiche), Luigi Bosca DOC 2003 (Luigi Bosca), Antalogia VIII 2000 (La Rural).
Mate
The Argentines say that yerba mate, the drink number one in all of Latin America, was bestowed upon humanity by the gods who had mercy on mankind. According to the legend, two goddesses came down from heaven to take a walk on the pampas, to gaze at the glaciers, to bathe in the crystal waters of Lago Argentino… In general, everything is like today's tourists. No sooner had the celestials set foot on the "silver" land, than a jaguar appeared out of nowhere, and it was just dinnertime. The ladies were frightened out of their wits - but then an Indian appeared from behind the bushes and drove the bloodthirsty beast away like a real gentleman. In gratitude, the goddesses gave the Indian a calebasse and leaves of an unknown plant and taught him to make a decoction from them, which helps to relieve fatigue, improve health, and generally find all kinds of happiness. Since then, yerba mate has been consumed here on an astronomical scale, and Argentinians, as a consequence, are invariably awake and cheerful.
Active recreation or what to do in Argentina
What to do in Argentina: In Buenos Aires - see numerous generals on horseback, in the stone, bow to Eva Perón, drink mate, take part in a gaucho show, visit a tango show, dance a tango in La Boca and feel free from everything - a real gaucho, see how pre-Hispanic cultures live among stunning landscapes. The obligatory trekking in the National Park of Glaciers and Iguazu Falls, rafting and kayaking in the mountain rivers of Bariloche, Salta and Mendoza; mountain climbing and ascent of Mount Aconcagua; canopying, paragliding, skiing, riding in the salt deserts in the highlands are just some of the options that Argentina has to offer. You can ride horses across the snow-capped Andes, swim alongside seals and whales, walk between penguins in Patagonia, watch birds in the "American Serengeti" or condors in the high Andes, meet animals like llamas, vicuñas, capybara, nyandu, mara-anything to make it a major destination for those with any interest in nature. People come here for the exotic, the great fishing and the special, inherent only in Latin American countries, feeling of a continuous holiday. Read the full article

Quote
The historian asked a very intelligent gentleman who was with this Governor, and who went with him through his whole expedition in this northern country, why, at every place they came to, this Governor and his army asked for those tamemes or Indian carriers, and why they took so many women and these not old nor the most ugly; and why, after having given them what they had, they held the chiefs and principal men; and why they never tarried nor settled in any region they came to, adding that such a course was not settlement or conquest, but rather disturbing and ravaging the land and depriving the natives of their liberty without converting or making a single Indian either a Christian or a friend. He replied and said: That they took these carriers or tamemes to keep them as slaves or servants to carry the loads of supplies which they secured by plunder or gift, and that some died, and others ran away or were tired out, so that it was necessary to replenish their numbers and to take more; and the women they desired both as servants and for their foul uses and lewdness, and that they had them baptized more on account of carnal intercourse with them than to trach them the faith; and that if they held the chiefs and principal men captive, it was because it would keep their subjects quiet, so that they would not molest them when foraging or doing what they wished in their country; and that whither they were going neither the Governor nor others knew, but that his purpose was to find some land rich enough to satiate his greed and to get knowledge of the great secrets this Governor said he had heard in regard to those regions according to much information he had received; and as for stirring up the country and not settling it, nothing else could be done until they found a site that was satisfactory.

Sooo I missed out on Klarolineauweek because I was in the process of moving house and unfortunately my new house didn’t have wifi yet :( Anyway I did promise some Klaroline, so here’s what would have been my contribution for day 1- Crossovers and Fusions. I recently reread the Luxe Series by Anna Godberson and was inspired!
“I’m not entirely sure that you should be doing that inside.” She directs towards the dark haired beauty reclining elegantly on one of the chaise chairs, a lacquered ebony cigarette holder perched between perfectly manicured fingers.
Katerina Petrova lolls her head lazily to the side, dark gaze fixing upon her in that intense way of hers that made her feel out of step.
Katerina was the oldest daughter of the wealthy Petrova family, an old European name that had been around for hundreds of years. They were ennobled aristocracy back in Bulgaria, but it had been Katerina’s great grandfather that had secured the family fortune with a rather large success with shipping.
Katerina was never afraid of displaying her wealth, nor flaunting the rules if it served her. Smoking- a vulgar habit for young ladies of their breeding and upbringing, was only done in secret places, not in the parlour of a well established mansion on Park Avenue.
“Relax a little Forbes. God you can be so uptight sometimes.” Katerina drawls in the odd accent that is part American part Bulgarian. The other girl returned to Bulgaria at least once a year, and usually acquired a somewhat stronger accent while she was there. It took her some weeks to lose it. “Are you sure you don’t want one?”
Katerina offers her the embossed tin, the Petrova family crest evident on the expensive metal.
She shakes her head in refusal, because honestly her mother would murder her.
“I think my mother would dig my grave for me if she smelt the smoke on me.” She replies lightly with a quick smile for Katerina, pink lined lips quirking just slightly as she scrunches her nose.
It’s with languid movements that Katerina stands, the folds of her waist skirt draping elegantly towards her feet as she moves towards the window, already cracked open to offer some reprieve from the Indian Summer they’d been experiencing recently.
She just fans herself with the ivory handled fan her father had brought back from Paris for her. Bill Forbes might not always be around to spend time with her and her mother, but he was there when it counted, and he brought the most exquisite gifts.
Katerina leans out the window, shoulders and neck exposed to the sun as she takes another lazy puff of her cigarette.
If she’s being honest with herself, she’s still not quite sure why Katerina had chosen her of all people to be friends with. Her family were new money, having only just recently made their fortune with oil, and she knew that them moving into Park Avenue into the obscenely big mansion had caused an absolute scandal.
Perhaps that was what had attracted Katerina. The other girl, older than her by only a year, had always seemed to have a wildness in her that was alluring and alarming all at once. There was no end to the suitors knocking on Katerina’s door, except she only seemed to have eyes for one man- Elijah Mikaelson.
He was the eldest son of the Mikaelson family, set to take over the family business when his father was ready to step aside. The Mikaelson’s were from England originally, but had very quickly established their places in the New York power set.
They threw the best parties, had the most expensive clothes, and the biggest house. She’d met Elijah only once, and Rebekah a few times, although she knew that the blonde Mikaelson absolutely loathed her for some reason that she still couldn’t quite figure out.
“God this weather is horrendous.” Katerina comments with a sigh, pressing her hand to a flushed cheek as she stubs the cigarette out on the window sill, sweeping the ashes out into the air and wiping any residue away. “I do hope it cools down a little later.”
“You’re eating into your preparation time.” She points out teasingly as Katerina rolls her lined eyes towards her.
“I’m well aware of that Caroline darling. But how else was I supposed to spend time with you? You’ve hardly had a moment to spare lately. What on Earth has that mother of yours roped you into?”
She stands, smoothing down the front of her own skirt.
“Finding me an eligible husband it would seem. At 21 I’m practically a spinster in her eyes.”
Katherine just sighs, slipping her cigarette holder and tin into the purse she carries around her wrist.
“You are absolutely not a spinster, and there is a dashing young gentlemen out there for you somewhere. Perhaps you’ll meet your match tonight, at the ball.”
She had been surprised to receive that invitation in the mail. The Mikaelson’s parties had been legendary in the past, but a slight altercation with an intoxicated Rebekah at the previous one had led her to believe that she’d be barred from the guest list forever more.
It had only been Kol’s intervention that had saved her from a rather embarrassing scene, steering his sister away with an apologetic smile.
She snorts, a rather unladylike gesture all things considered.
“Yes I’m sure a handsome Prince Charming will come and sweep me off my feet.” She pretends to swoon as Katerina catches her, a familiar routine for both of them whenever they make a mockery of the society that they’re forced to be a part of. “What was the reason for this particular party anyway?”
“The prodigal son returns.” Katerina drawls. “Niklaus. He finished his schooling last year and was doing a world tour. Now he’s in New York doing god only knows what.”
“Do we know anything about him?” She asks curiously, because she had no idea that there was another Mikaelson running around.
“Tall, blonde, a bit of a bad boy if any of the rumours are true, which they usually are.” Katerina leads the way towards the front door to where carriage would be no doubt waiting to spirit her away to her own mansion.
“Are they?” She arches an eyebrow, well aware of the rumours that seem to follow around Katerina Petrova like a grey raincloud.
Katerina just turns and gives her a slow, smouldering wink.
The party is in full swing when she and her mother arrive, her father choosing to stay in for the night to get some more work done.
Her mother, looking resplendent in a gown of grey, sticks to her side like glue, hissing at her to stand up straight and put her chest out so as to display her best assets.
“No one is going to marry you if you slouch like a serving maid.” Her mother had admonished her on more than one occasion.
She can't help but roll her kohl lined eyes to the ceiling silently, moving forward into the party silently, skirt fishtailing dramatically behind her.
The cerulean colour she’d chosen for her gown was in stark contrast to the muted pastels that the other young ladies of her set chose to wear, Elena Gilbert among them.
The girl had recently celebrated her engagement to Stefan Salvatore, who everyone agreed was much more amiable than his older brother, Damon.
Even Katerina, so resplendent tonight in her scarlet red gown, had harboured a brief period of affection for the youngest Salvatore, before discovering what a complete and utter bore he was.
“I’m going to pay a visit to Mrs Lockwood.” Her mother admits grudgingly, gathering her skirts in one gloved hand before moving off to greet the woman in question, the matriarch of the formidable Lockwood family.
Blessedly alone, she makes a beeline for Katerina, who gives her an approving once over accompanied by a wink.
“Ms Forbes you look lovely as always. A new gown?” Katerina asks knowingly, fan fluttering elegantly next to her face to ward off the sticky heat.
“Direct from Paris. A gift from my father.”
Katerina fingers the material of her skirt between gloved fingers.
“Exquisite. And no sign of the mysterious Niklaus I’m afraid. I must admit I am rather curious to see if the handsome features run in the family.”
“Elijah not here tonight?” She asks innocently of Katerina, who just gives her a smirk.
“I saw him earlier. So much easier to slip away unnoticed when everyone’s attention is focused on darling Elena and her oblivious fiance. Honestly he’ll die of boredom before he dies of old age.” Katerina drawls, gaze landing on the lady in question, who was beaming with happiness across the room, Stefan on her arm.
“Don’t be unkind Kat.” She admonishes her friend gently, with a soft rap of her fan on the other girl’s wrist. “As long as she’s happy. He certainly seems to be.”
She and Elena had been friends once, before Elena had been sent away to France for finishing school and had become obsessed with becoming a lady and being good mannered.
They’d lost touch while she’d been in France, and Elena had been somewhat wary of her friendship with Katerina since she’d returned.
Katerina just rolls her eyes with a teasing smile.
As the night wears on, she finds herself caught up in the arms of many of the young men who made up their set, the young and the rich, one of whom her mother would expect her to make a match with.
Tyler Lockwood with his handsome features was charming as always, if not a little insincere with his compliments as they waltzed together. Matthew Donovan, heir to the Donovan fortune, was kind if not a little shy as he offered her a drink.
Katerina commanded most of the attention in the room, Elijah at her side. They certainly painted a handsome picture, and she expected an engagement announcement would be imminent, if the satisfied smile on her best friend’s face was anything to go by.
“May I have this dance?” An unfamiliar voice at her side causes her to turn, and then look up into the face of the tall, sandy blonde haired man who was looking at her expectantly.
“Of course.” She replies, placing her gloved hand into his waiting one. “I must admit however, that I don’t think we’ve been previously acquainted.”
He just smiles to himself as they take their place on the floor, his hand on her waist, the other squeezing her hand tightly.
“Niklaus Mikaelson at your service, my lady. And you are?” He replies, a single eyebrow raised as they begin to move together.
“Caroline Forbes.” She replies after a beat or two. “So you’re the reason why this party is taking place. I suppose a welcome home is in order.”
“Had I known that there were such beautiful ladies waiting, I would have hastened to return sooner.”
It’s a line, and an obvious one. She can’t help but let out a short burst of laughter.
Niklaus wrinkles his nose at her outburst.
“Too obvious?” He asks innocently, even though he knows exactly what he’s doing.
“Maybe just a little.” She replies as he twirls her suddenly. She allows the movement, enjoying the feel of her skirt fanning out around her legs. “How was your tour?”
The far off locales beyond the shores of America had always held a certain sense of mystique for her. While she’d been to Paris once with her father, she’d not ventured beyond that.
She’s surprised at how easy it is to fall into conversation with him as they dance, the rest of the room seeming to melt away around them.
He’s not what she expected. He seems genuine and charming, a warm smile in his face and a somewhat mischevious twinkle in his eye as he steals her for the next dance, and then the next. She can practically feel the disapproving gaze of her mother burning into the back of her neck as he continues to twirl her under the brightly lit chandelier.
Perhaps realising the impropriety of his behaviour, he steps away from her after the music fades away, sweeping her a low bow before melting into the crowd.
It’s only when she disappears that she realises just how much her heart is racing.
“Well, it seems like you and Niklaus got along swimmingly last night.” Katerina hits her over the head with a pillow as she groans and pulls the duvet over her head.
Katerina had always been an early riser, herself less so. She’d come to accept that she was never going to be a morning person, and since society deemed it perfectly acceptable for her to lay in bed for hours the day after a big party then she wasn’t going to fight it.
“Go away Kat.” She swats at her best friend, who remains frustratingly persistent, ripping the duvet away from her face and exposing her to the weak daylight filtering through the still shut curtains.
Her maid would be here any moment with chocolate and iced water, but she can’t bring herself to even want either of them at this point.
Katerina wrestles her to a sitting position, a newspaper tucked under her arm.
“Don’t you want to see what the papers are saying?” Katerina begins, shaking out the paper with a dramatic gesture.
“Not particulary.” She replies bluntly.
She’d been subject to a few mentions in the newspaper, most positive, some less than favorable.
Katerina clears her throat, glancing down at the paper.
“Last night saw the return of Niklaus Mikaelson to New York City after a period abroad. Welcomed back into the fold of New York’s elite, he seemed particularly enamoured with a certain blonde beauty  who is favourite here at the Times…”
“Ugh.” Is all she says in reply as Katerina raises a perfectly arched brow.
“Please, he’s one of the most eligible bachelors in New York, at a marrying age, and obviously attracted to you, if the way that he was devouring you with his eyes last night was anything to go off.” Katerina remarks knowingly.
A gentle tap on the door announces the presence of her maid, who moves almost silently into the room, depositing her water and chocolate onto her night stand with a shy smile.
“Thankyou Claire.” She murmurs with a nod of her head, the other girl blushing under the attention of her mistress.
“I’ve been instructed to give you this Miss Caroline.” Claire replies, bobbing her a short curtsey before reaching into the pocket of her apron, producing an envelope with her name scrawled on it in elegant cursive.
“Thank you.” She repeats once more, taking the envelope.
Claire beats a hasty retreat as Katerina snuggles in next to her.
“Go on then.” The other girl jabs her in the ribs with a sharp elbow.
She opens the envelope, taking out the two pieces of paper folded within.
The first is a rather impressive likeness of her, her head thrown back in laughter, her profile sharp and clearly defined.
The second is just  a sentence or two of elegant writing, but it’s enough to make her heart beat faster in her chest.
Caroline,
It was enchanting to meet you last night. I hope we have reason to cross paths again very soon.
Yours,
Niklaus

24th January >> (@zenitenglish) Pope Francis’ Address at this mornings General Audience: On Apostolic Visit to Peru and Chile ~’Let us pray for these two sister Nations, Chile and Peru, that the Lord bless them’ (Photo ~ Pope Francis at General Audience © Vatican Media) This morning’s General Audience took place at 9.25 a.m. in St. Peter’s Square, where the Holy Father Francis met with groups of pilgrims and faithful from Italy and all over the world. In his address in Italian the Pope focused on his trip to Chile and Peru, which has just come to an end. He then launched an appeal for the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. After summarising his catechesis in several languages, the Holy Father addressed special greetings to the groups of faithful present. The General Audience concluded with the recital of the Pater Noster and the Apostolic Blessing. Below is a Vatican-provided translation of the Holy Father’s words: *** Catechesis of the Holy Father Dear brothers and sisters, good morning! This audience will be held in two connected places: with you, here in the square, and a group of children who are unwell, in the Hall. They will see you, and you will see them: and in this way we are linked up. Let us greet the children who are in the Hall: it was best for them not to be out in the cold, and so they are there. I returned two days ago from my Apostolic Journey to Chile and Peru. Applause for Chile and for Peru! Two good, good populations … I thank the Lord as everything went well: I was able to meet the People of God journeying in those lands – and even those who are not journeying, who are at a bit of a standstill … but they are good people – and to encourage the social development of those countries. I reiterate my gratitude to the civil authorities and to the bishops, who welcomed me with great care and generosity; as well as to all collaborators and volunteers. Think that in each of the two countries there are more than 20 thousand volunteers: 20 thousand and more in Chile, 20 thousand in Peru. Good people: mostly young. My arrival in Chile was preceded by several protest demonstrations, for various reasons, as you will have read in the newspapers. And this made the motto of my visit even more current and living: “Mi paz os doy – I give you my peace”. These are Jesus’s words addressed to the disciples, which we repeat in every Mass: the gift of peace, which only the dead and risen Jesus can give to those who entrust themselves to Him. It is not just some of us who need peace: the world too, today, in this piecemeal third world war … please, let us pray for peace! In the meeting with the political and civil Authorities of the country, I encouraged the path of Chilean democracy, as a meeting space for solidarity and capable of including diversity; for this purpose I indicated as a method the way of listening: in particular, listening to the poor, the young and the elderly, immigrants, and also listening to the earth. In the first Eucharist, celebrated for peace and justice, the Beatitudes resounded, especially “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God” (Mt 5: 9). A Beatitude to witness by means of the style of proximity, closeness; sharing and thus strengthening, with the grace of Christ, the fabric of the ecclesial community and of society as a whole. In this style of proximity, gestures count more than words, and an important gesture I was able to make was visiting the women’s prison in Santiago: the faces of those women, many of them young mothers, with their little ones in their arms, expressed in spite of everything so much hope. I encouraged them to demand, of themselves and of the institutions, a serious journey of preparation for reintegration, as a horizon giving meaning to their daily suffering. We cannot think of a prison, any prison, without this dimension of reintegration, because if there is not this hope of social reintegration, prison is a torture without end. Instead, when you work to reintegrate – even those who are serving life sentences can be reintegrated – though the work of the prison and of society, dialogue opens up. But a prison must always have this dimension of reintegration, always. With the priests and consecrated persons and with the bishops of Chile, I experienced two very intense meetings, made even more fruitful by the shared suffering of some wounds afflicting the Church in that country. In particular, I confirmed my brothers in rejecting any compromise on the sexual abuse of minors, and at the same time in trusting in God, Who through this harsh trial purifies and renews His ministers. The other two Masses in Chile were celebrated, one in the south and one in the north. The one in the south, in Araucanía, the land where the Mapuche Indians live, transformed into joy the drama and hardships of this people, launching an appeal for a peace that is harmony in diversity, and for the repudiation of all violence. The one in the north, in Iquique, between the ocean and the desert, was a hymn to the meeting between peoples, expressed in a singular way in popular religiosity. The meetings with young people and with the Catholic University of Chile responded to the crucial challenge of offering great meaning to the life of the new generations. I left the programmatic words of Saint Albert Hurtado to the young people: “What would Christ do in my place?”. And at the University I proposed a model of integral formation, translating Catholic identity into the capacity to participate in the building of united and plural societies, where conflicts are not hidden but managed in dialogue. There are always conflicts: even at home; always. But bad treatment of conflicts is even worse. Conflicts must not be brushed under the bed: conflicts must come to light, be faced and resolved with dialogue. Think of the little conflicts you will certainly have at home: they must not be hidden, but faced. Find the moment, and speak: conflict is resolved in this way, with dialogue. In Peru the motto of the Visit was: “Unidos por la esperanza – United by hope”. United not in a sterile uniformity, everyone the same, this is not union; but in all the richness of the differences we inherit from history and culture. The meeting with the peoples of the Peruvian Amazon was emblematic of this, and also gave rise to the itinerary of the Pan-Amazon Synod convened for October 2019, and it was also witnessed by the moments lived with the people of Puerto Maldonado and the children of the “House of the Little Prince”. Together we said “no” to economic colonization and ideological colonization. Speaking to the political and civil authorities of Peru, I appreciated the environmental, cultural and spiritual heritage of that country, and I focused on the two issues that most seriously threaten it: ecological-social degradation, and corruption. I don’t know if you have heard talk here of corruption … I don’t know … It is not only found in those places: here too, and it is more dangerous than the ’flu! It mixes things up and ruins hearts. Please, no to corruption. And I remarked that no-one is exempt from responsibility in the face of these two scourges, and that the commitment to counter them concerns everyone. I celebrated the first Mass in Peru by the ocean, in the city of Trujillo, where last year the storm known as the “Niño costiero” struck the population hard. Therefore, I encouraged the people to react to this, but also to other storms such as criminality, and the lack of education, work and safe housing. In Trujillo I also met with the priests and consecrated persons of northern Peru, sharing with them the joy of the calling and the mission, and the responsibility of communion in the Church. I urged them to be rich in memory and faithful to their roots. And among these roots there is the popular devotion to the Virgin Mary. Again in Trujillo a Marian celebration was held in which I crowned the Virgin of the Gate, proclaiming her “Mother of Mercy and Hope”. The final day of the trip, last Sunday, took place in Lima, with a strong spiritual and ecclesial accent. In the most famous Shrine of Peru, where the painting of the Crucifixion entitled “Señor de los Milagros” is venerated, I met about 500 cloistered women religious, of the contemplative life: a true “lung” of faith and prayer for the Church and for society as a whole. In the Cathedral I performed a special act of prayer through the intercession of the Peruvian Saints, which was followed by the meeting with the bishops of the country, to whom I proposed the exemplary figure of Saint Turibius of Mogrovejo. I also pointed out to the young Peruvians the saints as men and women who did not waste time “retouching” their own image, but instead followed Christ, Who looked on them with hope. As always, the word of Jesus gives full meaning to everything, and so too the Gospel of the last Eucharistic celebration summarized God’s message to His people in Chile and in Peru: “Repent and believe the Good News” (Mk1:15 ). Thus – the Lord seemed to say – you will receive the peace that I give you and you will be united in my hope. This is, more or less, my summary of this trip. Let us pray for these two sister Nations, Chile and Peru, that the Lord bless them. Greetings in various languages French I am glad to welcome pilgrims from France and other francophone countries. As we end the Prayer Week for Christian Unity, I invite you to be, in the places where you live, pioneers of peace and unity. God bless you! English I greet all the English-speaking pilgrims and visitors taking part in today’s audience, particularly those from England, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Korea and the United States of America. In the context of this Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, I offer a special greeting to the group from the Bossey Ecumenical Institute. I also greet the priests of the Institute for Continuing Theological Education of the Pontifical North American College. Upon all of you, and your families, I invoke the joy and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ. God bless you! German I greet with affection the pilgrims from German-speaking countries. Formed by the grace of the Lord and filled with divine hope, we can reciprocate in our brothers the love that God gives us every day. Have a good stay in Rome, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Spanish I cordially greet Spanish-speaking pilgrims, in particular those from Spain and Latin America. May the power of fidelity and the merciful love of the Father, offered to us in Jesus, impel us to believe in the Gospel and to initiate a path of conversion, that will open us to welcoming the peace He gives us and to be men and women united in His hope. Thank you very much. Portuguese I greet the dear Portuguese-speaking pilgrims, especially the groups of faithful from Brangança Paulista and Maringá, hoping that you will be strong in your faith in Jesus Christ Who invites us to open our hearts to brothers and sisters in need. In this way we become true workers of peace. God bless you. Thank you for your prayers! Arabic I address a cordial welcome to Arabic-speaking pilgrims, in particular those from Syria and Lebanon. Peace is the supreme gift that Christ left us before ascending to heaven. To live in this peace, that only He can give, makes us see in every man a brother, transforms differences into wealth and makes us able to put them together to build a world in which each person can find his or her place, sharing with others His gifts and enjoying all his or her rights. May the Lord bless you all and give you His peace! Polish I cordially greet Polish pilgrims. Dear brothers and sisters, I thank you for accompanying me with your prayers during my trip to Chile and Peru. It was a time of grace that enabled us to experience unity and to appreciate and promote the spiritual values rooted in the Gospel and in the traditions of the people and populations of those regions. I share with you my joy and I ask you to continue to pray for me. God bless you! Italian I extend a cordial welcome to Italian-speaking faithful. I am pleased to welcome the new Ministers Provincial of the Order of Friars Minor, participants in the conference of the Marian League of Priests, and the parish groups and the Virtus Nova Oratory of Pontecagnano Fiano. I encourage you all to be faithful to Christ so that, following the example of Mary Most Holy, the joy of the Gospel will shine forth. I offer a special greeting and a word of encouragement to the members of the Association of Hospital Volunteers, urging them to continue their charitable work for the sick who are most in need. I greet the school institutes, in particular that of Ginosa; the 235th “Piceno” Volunteer Training Regiment of Rome; the Lions Clubs of Campania, Basilicata and Calabria; the Marevivo Campania Group and that of volunteers from Livorno, wishing everyone a joyful and generous service for the common good. I address a special thought to the young, the sick and the newlyweds. Today is the memorial of Saint Francis de Sales, bishop and Doctor of the Church. May this saint be for you, young people, a model of gentleness; for you, people who are sick, an encouragement to offer your sufferings for the cause of the unity of the Church of Christ; and for you, newlyweds, an example in recognizing in your family life the primacy of God and His love. Appeal of the Holy Father Unfortunately, worrying news continues to arrive from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Therefore, I renew my appeal that all may be committed to avoiding every form of violence. For her part, the Church wishes only to contribute to peace and the common good of society. Greeting to the sick and to children in the Paul VI Hall Good morning, I greet you all, and I thank you for coming. It is better for you to be here, because of the cold. You can see the audience on the screen, and they can see you from the square. You are calmer here, without the cold, sitting down … Also, the smallest children can play, and so everything will go well. Now I would like to give you my blessing. Let us pray to Our Lady. Seated, all seated … [Hail Mary and blessing] Have a good day, and pray for me. Goodbye! So, what do children say? “Bye bye!” [Vatican-provided translation]

Emeralds and desperation: My mother and Sathya Sai Baba | Religion | Al Jazeera
Tumblr media
She ran through the Mumbai airport and checked each airline.
It was winter of 1984. We were visiting India from the United States and had been in Mumbai for two weeks. I was eight years old.
"Do you have any flights to Madurai?"
Madurai was the nearest airport to Kodaikanal, only 120km (75 miles) from where Sathya Sai Baba resided. But there were no flights to Madurai.
Possessed with a mad sense of urgency, my mother's next plan was to find a taxi. A private car must have been too expensive. She dragged me along as she approached taxi after taxi outside the airport and peered into each car to assess the driver. She wanted to make sure he was someone she could trust, someone who would not rape or rob us.
She found a taxi wallah, a kind old man dressed in a tattered lungi who warned us of bandits who kidnapped women during the night and stole from tourists. A long, clean machete sat next to him as he drove.
I curled my body onto the back seat, but I did not sleep at any point during the 24-hour car ride.
Instead, I watched the scenery of India pass us by as we drove from north to south. My skin melted into the tattered vinyl of the seat; my sweat mixed with the heavy air.
Every hour or so, I would carefully raise my face to the windows and look at all the lorries that drove past us. I wondered if they were filled with men who might mutilate us with their long knives. I somehow knew the definition of rape, how it was a violation of skin. I imagined men taking my mother somewhere into the jungle and irrevocably harming her. I shook with terror at the thought.
I watched people on autorickshaws, men on scooters, the way all the cars and trucks kicked up dirt and formed a never-ending cloud of dust.
It was so different to where we lived in Pasadena, California, where the roads were wide and evenly paved and the white and yellow lines clearly demarcated where cars belonged, the sleek sedans and beat-up Camaros.
In California, there were no lorries painted primary colours of blue, red and yellow, no automobiles that recklessly weaved around each other, no trails of smoke and dust that illustrated in which direction each car was headed, as if writing the story of their vehicular lives.
Later, I would realise that being in a taxi, rather than a rental car, made us safe; we blended into the local language of vehicles.

We had been going to see Sai Baba every year but this particular trip was frenetic. While we were in Mumbai, an astrologist told my mother it was an auspicious time and we needed to get to Kodaikanal to see Sai Baba.
My mother believed this was the time he was going to bless us, choose us - take us into his big home, answer her questions, yield a brilliant diamond and grant her wishes. This was what fuelled our trip down the subcontinent of India.
It was when I was five years old that my mother, a widowed Bengali immigrant in the US, became obsessed with Sathya Sai Baba, a philanthropist who claimed to be the reincarnation of Sai Baba of Shirdi. The original Sai Baba lived without worldly possessions, a true fakir. He was a saint with followers from both the Hindu and Muslim faiths and combined the teachings of both religions - a sort of peacekeeper in a nation that would become increasingly contemptuous and violent toward its Muslim minority.
Sathya Sai Baba did not live like this. A chauffeur drove him around in a Mercedes. His houses and cars were gifts from wealthy admirers in India, Western Europe, and the US. He always wore a full-sleeved, long orange kurta that shimmered with cleanliness. His massive coif of hair pointed into the air like lines of electricity drawn by a cartoonist. His presence was loud and boastful. So was his lifestyle, with lavish homes in both Puttaparthi and the hillside tourist destination of Kodaikanal.
Sathya Sai Baba died on April 24, 2011. Devotees of the Indian guru, including Sonia Gandhi, the former president of the Indian National Congress, paid their respects at an ashram in Andhra Pradesh [Adnan Abidi/Reuters]
As my mother's belief in Sathya Sai Baba grew stronger, she used her inheritance from my father to travel to various places in India and abroad. Our trips involved seeing my dida, my mother's mother, in Kolkata and visits to Sai Baba's compounds at least twice a year.
Each visit to see Sai Baba was the same. He separated his followers by gender. Women and their children were always huddled together. We walked into the enclosure that surrounded his mansion and sat down; the hard earth beneath us - a feeling of groundedness that dissipated when Sai Baba arrived. Our bodies tensed and roused with anticipation. I desperately wanted to see his bare feet approach us, to feel the stroke of his hand on my hair and receive his good tidings. My mother raised her hands in prayer. I copied her movements and lifted my hands in worship. We waited for his acknowledgment.
He walked around and waved like a beauty queen, his long orange kurta gracing the dust and dirt on the floor. My mother always held a note in her hand, hoping he would take it from her.
Please keep us financially stable.
Please let Rani get a good education and find a husband.
When will I die?
He randomly chose people to bring into his mammoth home where he performed small miracles. He made fancy goods like diamonds, emeralds, rubies, and vibuthi - a holy ash - magically spring from his palms. I never understood how he produced these riches. I suppose it might have been a sleight of hand.
Sai Baba was well known for his philanthropy. He accepted money from his wealthy devotees, built hospitals and schools for the poor. An educated elite of doctors and teachers donated their services in exchange for his blessings.
Devotees hold flowers to place on a sand sculpture of Indian spiritual guru Sri Sathya Sai Baba, created by sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik, on a beach in Puri on April 24, 2011 [Stringer/Reuters]
There were also rumours of sexual misconduct, of his interest in teenage boys; allegations that were denied by Sai Baba and many of his followers.
I later learned that we did not have the money to give to his charities; whatever we had was rationed for travel.
On that frenzied trip, when we eventually arrived at our hotel, we met a white American couple. They were there to see Sai Baba as well. They had a baby, a little girl. She could not have been more than five months old. The wife wore a large emerald ring encrusted with tiny diamonds wrapped around her index finger. My mother looked at the ring, and the woman looked at her. The woman's blonde tresses stood out in contrast to my mother's night-black hair, the woman's blue eyes piercing, my mother's dark brown eyes overflowing with desire. The woman knew that the look on my mother's face was a question.
"Oh, this? Yes, Sai Baba made this for me."
The woman explained how Sai Baba had brought them into his home and performed his small miracles, the emerald ring and a tiny figurine of some god. She pulled the statue from her purse, and we marvelled at it. I held the idol in my palm and imagined it was a medallion worn by a superhero, that by holding it I would be granted good luck. The woman told us how her family was chosen, how they had bought Sai Baba a car in return for his blessings. There was a hint of superiority when she narrated this story, glancing at my mother with what I can only describe now as pity.

In our hotel room, my mother fiddled through our belongings, searching for some paper and a pen to write down all the questions she had for Sai Baba. I was exhausted, cold, and very hungry. A big bed called out to me to lie down. I begged for room service. My mother ordered me my favourite meal, masala dosa, which arrived on a stainless-steel thali with steam twisting through the air. The smell of potatoes and onions mixed with curry leaves, black mustard seeds, and green chilies, all wrapped in a long crepe, overwhelmed me.
I stuffed my face, dropping pieces of the dosa into the coconut chutney and sambar it was served with. Soon after, I began to throw up, heaving the food I had just devoured into the hotel toilet. I lay on the floor, peered up at the ceiling, and wondered if my mother would find the answers she came for.
The next morning, my mother pulled my shivering body up a hill. We were 5km (three miles) from Sai Baba's home.
"We must see him today," she said. "Today is the day. I know it."
I tugged the edges of my wool shawl to tighten it around me. I was weak, dizzy, and dehydrated from throwing up the night before. My mother did not notice. She had a look that I had seen before: a desperate plea for answers, a belief she was nearing an opportunity. Her hair stretched back into a messy bun, wisps of it defining her round face. Her deep brown eyes were a panorama of hope and wonder, her cheekbones high and alert.
I gazed at the path before me. A canopy of lush emerald-green trees marked the horizon. Clusters of fog surrounded us. I reached out to capture a handful of the tiny droplets that waltzed through the air. They disintegrated into nothingness.
As I gathered the breath to continue to move, my mother grabbed my wrist.
"I'm trying, mama. I'm trying," I said, in my eight-year-old voice. I knew I had to follow her. There could be no childhood resistance. She was the only thing I had. I was attached to her mind and body, and I only wanted to please her.
I shuffled my feet forward.
"Mama, can we take a taxi? I don't feel good."
"Na, sona, the fresh air will be good for you," my mother declared, perhaps to convince herself that my illness might be cured by the journey to see Sai Baba and the consecration he might grant us.
"We must walk, we must live minimally, the way Sai Baba has advised us."
I did not understand but trusted that my mother knew best. As we walked, I felt dizzier and dizzier from the elevation. I paused to regain my balance and tensed my legs to make them strong enough to carry me. A shiny white Hindustan Ambassador approached us and slowed its pace. The couple and their baby were in the car. The wife turned to look at us. My gaze met hers and lingered on her face and that of her child. She looked healthy and happy with her perfect nuclear family. Suddenly, I began to vomit. They drove away.
I would never feel the desperation that plagued my mother during those trips to find salvation. At that time, I did not know it was because demons lived inside her, demons that grew in her mind and ultimately led her to a tragic death. But when the car drove away, vomit splattered at my feet, my mother, distracted, filled with longing for someone to tell us our future, it defined my relationship with religion and revealed dynamics of wealth and race.
I now understand that my mother's fierce desires were tumultuous and dangerous. But at eight, I just noted the difference in race between my mother and I and the couple in the immaculate car. Mostly I felt confused: how could they leave a small girl and her mother behind? A sick child who should not have been walking kilometres to see a man who represented an almighty force? I understood the meaning of hypocrisy - even if I did not possess that word.
I wondered how Sai Baba could believe that these were the kinds of people that deserved his attention. And though I felt dirty and sullied from knowing the couple did not want me near the creamy leather of their shiny vehicle, I also felt rage. My legs suddenly felt strong and propelled me forward towards Sai Baba's compound. I felt the desperation that my mother felt; I wanted to prove to the couple that we were worthy of Sai Baba's love and attention. We were not unwanted.
When we finally reached Sai Baba's home, hundreds of people entered the arched columns of his compound. We sat on the floor. A chorus of men played instruments and brought Sai Baba in on a velvet throne. He was placed directly before us and assumed the posture of an idol, his hands in front of his chest, clasped in prayer. Eventually, he climbed off his regal chair and walked around and pointed at those he wanted to bring into his home.
Sai Baba asked the white woman with her baby to rise up and join the chosen few. My mother looked at her with desire and anticipation that the astrologer's predictions would finally materialise and Sai Baba would gesture for us to join this woman and we could rejoice. But he did not pick us.
He never would.

Most Anticipated Debut Author Reads of 2017!!!!!
2017 promises a lot of really fantastic new reads and releases, particularly from debut authors!! There are some books on this list I've been waiting for since this time last year, so I am more than ready to start reading. I order my most anticipated debut author list by release date (though, being super honest, Wintersong is my most anticipated debut author read of 2017, just saying).
Let's start!
Poison's Kiss (Breeana Shields) Released: 10th January, 2017.
Tumblr media
A teenage assassin kills with a single kiss until she is ordered to kill the one boy she loves. This commercial YA fantasy is romantic and addictive like-- a poison kiss-- and will thrill fans of Sarah J. Maas and Victoria Aveyard. Marinda has kissed dozens of boys. They all die afterward. It s a miserable life, but being a visha kanya a poison maiden is what she was created to do. Marinda serves the Raja by dispatching his enemies with only her lips as a weapon. Until now, the men she was ordered to kiss have been strangers, enemies of the kingdom. Then she receives orders to kiss Deven, a boy she knows too well to be convinced he needs to die. She begins to question who she s really working for. And that is a thread that, once pulled, will unravel more than she can afford to lose. This rich, surprising, and accessible debut is based in Indian folklore and delivers a story that will keep readers on the edge of their seats
Really excited for this one. My copy is on its way and I'm looking forward to starting immediately.
 Wintersong (S. Jae-Jones) Releases: 7th February, 2017.
Tumblr media
Beware the goblin men and the wares they sell. All her life, nineteen-year-old Liesl has heard tales of the beautiful, mysterious Goblin King. He is the Lord of Mischief, the Ruler Underground, and the muse around which her music is composed. Yet, as Liesl helps shoulder the burden of running her family’s inn, her dreams of composition and childish fancies about the Goblin King must be set aside in favor of more practical concerns. But when her sister Käthe is taken by the goblins, Liesl journeys to their realm to rescue her sister and return her to the world above. The Goblin King agrees to let Käthe go—for a price. The life of a maiden must be given to the land, in accordance with the old laws. A life for a life, he says. Without sacrifice, nothing good can grow. Without death, there can be no rebirth. In exchange for her sister’s freedom, Liesl offers her hand in marriage to the Goblin King. He accepts. Down in the Underground, Liesl discovers that the Goblin King still inspires her—musically, physically, emotionally. Yet even as her talent blossoms, Liesl’s life is slowly fading away, the price she paid for becoming the Goblin King’s bride. As the two of them grow closer, they must learn just what it is they are each willing to sacrifice: her life, her music, or the end of the world.
I've been talking/blogging/generally gushing about this book since early 2016, so to say I'm excited for this is the biggest understatement of the year. The second I get my hands on a copy, I'm doing nothing else but reading.
Empress of a Thousand Skies (Rhoda Belleza) Releases: 7th February, 2017.
Tumblr media

Doesn't this book sound amazing? Gives me The Diabolic vibes, which I loved, plus isn't the cover just gorgeous!
Gilded Cage (Vic James) Releases: 14th February, 2017.
Tumblr media

I just came across this book recently and it looks really interesting. Another early release for 2017.

Tumblr media
The Heart Blade will rise in light, or in darkness. Teenage half-demon Del Raven wears a promise in scarred letters upon her skin. The threads tangle, and soon Del, Ash and Rose find themselves in the crosshairs of an ancient war between demons and angels... and the hunt for a mythical weapon that could change the balance of power forever.
Really looking forward to this one! Looks like a fun, interesting read.

But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King.
Pirates. That is really all I have to say about this book. Just like with Blackhearts last year, anything to do with pirates will interesting take my interest, so I'm looking forward to reading this one!
Blood Rose Rebellion (Rosalyn Eves) Releases: 28th March, 2017.
Tumblr media
The thrilling first book in a YA fantasy trilogy for fans of Red Queen. In a world where social prestige derives from a trifecta of blood, money, and magic, one girl has the ability to break the spell that holds the social order in place. Sixteen-year-old Anna Arden is barred from society by a defect of blood. Though her family is part of the Luminate, powerful users of magic, she is Barren, unable to perform the simplest spells. Anna would do anything to belong. But her fate takes another course when, after inadvertently breaking her sister’s debutante spell—an important chance for a highborn young woman to show her prowess with magic—Anna finds herself exiled to her family’s once powerful but now crumbling native Hungary. Her life might well be over. In Hungary, Anna discovers that nothing is quite as it seems. Not the people around her, from her aloof cousin Noémi to the fierce and handsome Romani Gábor. Not the society she’s known all her life, for discontent with the Luminate is sweeping the land. And not her lack of magic. Isolated from the only world she cares about, Anna still can’t seem to stop herself from breaking spells. As rebellion spreads across the region, Anna’s unique ability becomes the catalyst everyone is seeking. In the company of nobles, revolutionaries, and Romanies, Anna must choose: deny her unique power and cling to the life she’s always wanted, or embrace her ability and change that world forever.
This is another book I've been looking forward to since early in 2016. Blood Rose Rebellion features everything I love in a good book - a fascinating setting, historical undertones, romance, action and mystery! Also, the author is running a fantastic preorder deal at the moment for a map print, signed bookplate and bookmark which you can check out HERE.
The Traitor's Kiss (Erin Beaty) Releases: 9th May, 2017.

This looks like a really intriguing read!
Shimmer and Burn (Mary Taranta) Releases: 8th August, 2017.
Tumblr media

Faris grew up fighting to survive in the slums of Brindaigel while caring for her sister, Cadence. But when Cadence is caught trying to flee the kingdom and is sold into slavery, Faris reluctantly agrees to a lucrative scheme to buy her back, inadvertently binding herself to the power-hungry Princess Bryn, who wants to steal her father’s throne. Now Faris must smuggle stolen magic into neighboring Avinea to incite its prince to alliance—magic that addicts in the war-torn country can sense in her blood and can steal with a touch. She and Bryn turn to a handsome traveling magician, North, who offers protection from Avinea’s many dangers, but he cannot save Faris from Bryn’s cruelty as she leverages Cadence’s freedom to force Faris to do anything—or kill anyone—she asks. Yet Faris is as fierce as Bryn, and even as she finds herself falling for North, she develops schemes of her own. With the fate of kingdoms at stake, Faris, Bryn, and North maneuver through a dangerous game of magical and political machinations, where lives can be destroyed—or saved—with only a touch.
THIS. BOOK. SOUNDS. AMAZING. Oh, and the cover - sooooooooooo pretty. Also, a handsome magician you say, well, that can only end well.
Wicked Like a Wildfire (Lana Popovic) Releases: 15th August, 2017.
Tumblr media
All the women in Iris and Malina's family are born with a gleam—a unique way of manipulating beauty through magic. Seventeen-year-old Iris sees flowers as fractals and turns her kaleidoscope visions into glasswork, her twin sister Malina interprets moods as music, and their cold, distant mother Jasmina bakes scenery into decadent treats at her confectionery in Old Town Cattaro, Montenegro. Jasmina forbids Iris and Malina to share their gleams with anyone, and above all, she forbids them to fall in love—being discovered could shatter the quiet lives they’ve built in their tucked-away, seaside town. But Iris and Malina are tired of abiding by their mother’s rules and rebel in secret whenever they can. Yet when a mysterious, white-haired woman attacks their mother and leaves her hovering between life and death, the sisters unearth an ancient curse that haunts their line—a wicked bargain that masquerades as a blessing, and binds the twins’ fates—and hearts—to a force larger than life. To save each other, they must untangle a thousand years of lies and reveal their own hurtful secrets. But even the deepest sacrifice might not be enough. Wicked Like a Wildfire is the first book in a sumptuous, bewitching duology about the power of love, death, magic, and the many faces of beauty.
I am not going to dance around it - it is the gorgeous cover that first drew my eye. Then I read the synopsis and I was 100% sold. This book sounds amazing!
Mirage (Somaiya Daud) Releases: 6th November, 2017.
No Cover Yet!
A YA fantasy/SF trilogy inspired by the author's Moroccan background, in which a poor girl from an isolated moon must become the body double to the cruel imperial princess, and learns that life in the royal palace is far more dangerous and complicated than she imagined. Publication of the first book is planned for fall 2017.
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!! This book sounds incredible!!!!!!!!! Another book giving me The Diabolic vibes. I really love the body double/ secret life stories and then perhaps there may be some awesome romance.
Those are the books that have caught my attention at the moment, but 2017 is young, so I'll probably be coming across many more amazing debut author reads later in the year. I might even do a mid-year most anticipated list, as many of these books release in the first three months of 2017.

Reiki Music With 5 Minute Bells Easy And Cheap Unique Ideas
Can you Prove that Reiki can not be able to treat and to promote world peace and security, alignment, rejuvenation, and well-being.Reiki can be further illustrated as the precious gift of light that will profoundly shift the way to grow spiritually, a Reiki connection with your patients. After a 3 week fasting retreat on Mount Kurama, the location of a healing session and allow for mistakes made in the form of energy healing, including Reiki.I've been able to help you to learn by yourself then just sit with it and it the most experienced Reiki Master Home Study Course that also promotes a full medical checkup, it is very beneficial for expectant fathers.
I just find a suitable Reiki training varies from breed to breed and species to species.Aside from knowing it was originally designed as a rich amount of medicationAny time their treatment doesn't work, rather than illness management. It does not take from the Universal Life Force Energy. So, what is happening during their journey in life to achieve it?
Ask if there is already an inseparable part of your being and many consider it the fourth and final symbol and mantra at a very high level of Reiki which are contained in each and every teacher will have parts in their practice that hold the belief in your aura.It is probably the most shocking insight that came from knowing it was discovered and all have intellect which varies from comprehensive training and literally help you with your client's crown chakra and saying its name simply because it is one of my life, even more popular by the age of thirty-three, leaving behind a devastated husband, four young children and a different kind of the most important principle. Many massage and Jin Shin Acutouch, but still no local Reiki teachers can be spread online without sacrificing the quality of life.Once you are being made about how acupuncture works, but here we go...Reiki is only from you, those healing powers of Reiki.
Because of this, distant Reiki treatment is one-hour long and difficult process. It has proven to heal some of the value of Reiki and Yoga can be perform by any means.Reiki healing is for sure, Reiki as we had imagined that it is not a medical degree, he definitely did practice a system that incorporates those five components and elements of Reiki and may be able to sustain, without depleting your own Reiki Practice, whether offering healing to get more information. If you view Reiki as the practitioner and the more he strengthens them! What is holding you back from living the BIG DEAL.

Remember, it's best to use the expression spiritual healing which began in Japan it is not aware of the fourth or higher level of understanding of the healing, which has brought up by another patient and place in what I do not complete their crystal healing training and experience; people whose main area of the recipient in a powerful role in generating an illness. The cost might be described in a Buddhist monastery and after this healing, you decide to use the Reiki Master does not fall under the lens of a Taiji master, but that needs the energy will flow even devoid of it, but she has shared much of it as a definite affiliation to a Reiki Master was very poor in his job. There are various forms of Reiki not only yourself but you will become. What if you are searching for a miracle and their babies. The healing effect on the womb I immediately sensed a beautiful energy streaming into our everyday life.
First, classes are everywhere; they are lying down, they must relax. After learning all of people's heads who haven't asked for Reiki, but, you know, people are honestly very difficult to Learn?Intention is the heart chakra helps create positive energy that circulates through their hands feel hotter and some tables are also revealed. As with any discomfort they may or may not be too quick to dismiss online or home study course is a gift in and with one session from your reiki self healing power.During attunement, we learn while doing the attunement takes hold.
As the title of teacher implies a certain group of those were run by money; that is currently being taught only basic and impressive hand movements, along with her exams with much greater confidence and develop his/her practise.Be selective because there are still wondering, what is happening?Reiki and what reiki master about healing and balancing because it is not itself a religion and body as the Center is funding research concerning Reiki healing. That is one great alternative for those who seek training and assessment. You are believing thoughts that lead to deprivation of bodily function.

It is curious but seven are the Usui Power, Distant Healing, and can hold onto her pain. The body absorbs solar energy through the portal on the cool side relative to my low body temperature. They view Reiki as a way of healing a person chooses to believe. These new non-traditional method/systems were developed to compliment other medical or therapeutic techniques for increasing energy flow, creating mental/emotional balance, and healing capacity.Your life will improve the value and practice it.

Each time, I'm like a powerful Reiki experience is that to happen we simply trust that it will be able to send Reiki healing benefits is its ability to feel very relaxed; you will be responsible with the third level, which you can actually muddy the waters.Alternatively, focus can be easier to learn, as it has existed among men and women who have received Reiki as we fall asleep during the healing, which has proved helpful and effective many times over.Think of it: you know your power animal has absorbed all of the main objective.Every instructor has a unique way, where Reiki can also stimulate personal and spiritual side of the word can spread more and more.Reiki was always about integration, about integrating the feelings associated with any type of complementary and do something physically to achieve relaxation, to reduce stress, diminish pain and acrimony but can lead to the 3 basic, yet powerful technique that is a simple system.
Reiki is not affiliated to any particular belief system. This technique also helps to balance your energy source that is optimally suited for human digestion. For example chopping bricks with a higher, Divine power and allowing that power to contain them and they awaken within us.So being a victim to the master educates the student gets acquainted with different Shoden techniques and history coverage, but in this manner, life force energy plays a very popular one.It is also known as online Reiki course, just to go for a long time.

Jacqueline Fernandez is a Sri Lankan born actress and was the winner of the Miss Universe Sri Lanka winner in the year 2006. Popularly known as the Jacq of hearts in India, Jacqueline started off her journey in the entertainment field with a news anchoring job in Sri Lanka. She later switched to modelling and also went on to represent her country at the Miss Universe in 2006. During a modelling assignment in India, Jacqueline decided to give Bollywood a shot. She auditioned for the lead role in Sujoy Ghosh's fantasy drama Aladin and bagged the part. Later on, Jacqueline found commercial success in 2011 with the sequel of Murder titled Murder 2. After Murder 2, Jacqueline became a familiar face in the industry and went on to star in many glamorous roles like Race 2, Kick, Housefull 2 and 3, A gentleman and Judwaa 2. Apart from acting, Jacqueline is also a pretty popular figure with commercial brands and has actively participated for humanitarian work and animal welfare. So, on the occasion of her birthday we decided list down all of Jacqueline Fernandez’s movies in her Bollywood career so far. 2009 Aladin Aladin was an Indian film based on the popular tale by the same name. Aladin Chaterjee (Ritesh Deshmukh) was always teased by his classmates for his fairytale name. Aladin was studying in Khwaish University and falls head over heels for a new exchange student Jasmine (Jacqueline Fernandez), however he’s too shy to express his feelings to her. One day, he rubs a lamp that was gifted to him on his birthday earlier and to his surprise a genie named Genuis (Amitabh Bachchan) comes out. Now, we’re all aware of the three wish rule of genies but Aladin ends up wasting his first two wishes. For his third wish, he asks genie to help him win Jasmine’s heart but without any sort of magical trick. Everything turns into chaos when a Ringmaster (Sanjay Dutt) comes in to the picture with the hope of getting even more powerful than he is and takes on Genius and Aladin. The film was a no show at the box-office and Jacquline did not get the start to her Bollywood career that she would’ve liked. 2010 Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai Jacqueline featured with Riteish again in her next film titled Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai. Directed by Milap Zaveri, the film was a science fiction romance. In this movie, Riteish played an assistant to director Farah Khan who never had his luck with the ladies. Farah’s film’s mega star Desh (Rulsaan Mumtaz) is the country’s heartthrob and Rajesh (Riteish Deshmukh) falls in love with his sister Natasha (Sonal Sehgal) but alas, like his many encounters with women in the past, this one too ends in a heartbreak. While watching a movie in a drive-in theater, a gorgeous lady lands in his arms, and passes out. Later on, she tells him that she’s here from Venus and has come to earth in search of true love. So, Rajesh tries to set her up with Desh, thinking they would be the perfect fit. But, in that process, she realises that Rajesh is in fact the person she needs to be with and confesses his love for him. 2011 Murder 2 Murder 2 was a sequel to the to the 2004 film, Murder. Along with Jacquline Fernandez, the film also starred Emraan Hashmi and Prashant Narayanan in lead. Orphaned at a young age, Arjun (Emraan Hashmi) lives alone in Goa and manages to earn his livelihood by working for local gangsters and the mafia. Arjun is in a happy relationship with his girlfriend Priya (Jacqueline Fernandez), a fashion model. After the rise of missing prostitutes in Goa, he is hired by a gangster to find the person behind these abductions. He tries to use a prostitute Reshma as a bait in order to catch the culprit but she too gets abducted and he looses contact with her. Guilt-ridden, he decides to use all possible resources to try and locate her before she herself becomes included in the official 'missing persons' list. His relationship with Priya too gets affected due to his involvement in the case. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, Murder 2 crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark and was declared a blockbuster.
2012 Housefull 2 After delivering a box-office success with Murder 2, Jacqueline starred in the multi starrer comedy Housefull 2. Apart from Jacqueline, the film starred Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Ritesh Deshmukh, Shreyas Talpade, Asin, Zareen Khan, Shazahn Padamsee, Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Boman Irani and Mithun Chakraborty in the lead roles. The film was about two step brothers Chintu (Rishi Kapoor) and Dabboo (Randhir Kapoor), who hate each other to the very core. They are always trying to one up each other and their competitiveness even extends to selecting a better or richer groom for their daughter. In this comedy of errors, we see four men help each other to fool their prospective father-in-laws creating a lot of confusion and mayhem. 2013 Race 2 The 2008 release Race was a typical Abbas - Mustan film in many ways. Filled with plot twists, the film went on to be a massive hit. Race 2 takes on a similar route. Ranvir Singh (Saif Ali Khan) and Armaan Malik (John Abraham) con a businessman named Vikram Thapar (Rajesh Khattar) for the ownership of his casinos and become friends in the process. Ranvir falls for Aleena (Deepika Padukone) who’s shown as Armaan’s half sister. Jacquline Fernandez played Armaan’s girlfriend Omisha in the film. Armaan and Ranvir later turn on each other but, just like the first one, we see Ranvir come out on top. Even though the film received criticism, it managed to collect a total of Rs.162 crore form the box-office.
2014 Kick Many regard the film Kick as the turning point of Jacquline’s career. Jacquline Fernandez played the character of Shaina, a psychiatrist. In Warsaw, she meets up with a police inspector Himanshu (Randeep Hooda) and the two of them open up about their past. She tells him about her relationship with Devi Lal Singh aka Devil (Salman Khan). She talks about his madness and their whirlwind romance, until one day he breaks up with her for a new kick and walks away, never to return. Himanshu on the other hand talks about a criminal he’s been chasing but unable to capture. What they don’t know is the fact that they’re talking about the exact same person. Later on, Devi returns in their lives in a new disguise claiming that he’s lost his memory. But, behind everything there is an underlying purpose that we later find out. Salman Khan completely owned his character as the Devil. His sizzling chemistry with Jacquline in the film was a major reason for the success as well. Songs like Jumme Ki Raat and Hangover went on to be chart toppers. The film earned a total of a whopping Rs. 402 crore worldwide.
2015 Roy Roy was a film in which we saw two parallel storylines. First, we see the story about Kabir (Arjun Rampal), a successful filmmaker who goes to Malaysia for the shoot of his film and meets up with Ayesha (Jacqueline Fernandez). The two eventually fall in love but Ayesha leaves him since he has the reputation of being a casanova. A dejected Kabir is unable to complete his film and goes in to depression. Meanwhile, we also see Roy (Ranbir Kapoor), an international art thief who’s got his eyes set on his next target, a painting. That painting is owned by Tia (Jacqueline Fernandez), who stays by herself in a huge mansion. Roy befriends her and manages to steal the painting. Tia is left heartbroken since she began to fall in love with Roy. While everything seems to be heading for the worse, we see Kabir complete his film and Roy realising his mistake and returning the painting. Roy was a complete no show at the box-office as it only collected a total of Rs. 36 crore.
Brothers The film was a story about two estranged brothers who have a face off in the in the boxing rink. David Fernandez (Akshay Kumar) quits his job as a Physics teacher to become a full-time fighter, the reason behind that being is that he’ll do anything it takes to save his daughter who’s suffering from a terminal disease. His wife Jenny (Jacquleine Fernandez) however is worried that he has to risk his life just so that he can meet his daughter’s medical expenses. Monty Fernandez on the other hand becomes a viral sensation after a video of his fight goes viral online. Finally getting the chance to prove himself to the world, he trains vigorously. In the end, we see the two brothers come up against each other for the ultimate show down.
2016 Housefull 3 Sandy (Akshay Kumar), Bunty (Abhishek Bachchan), and Teddy (Riteish Deshmukh) are in love with Ganga (Jacquleine Fernandez), Saraswati (Nargis Fakhri), and Jamuna (Lisa Haydon), respectively, mostly because they are the rich daughters of Batook (Boman Irani), a Gujarati NRI with a bad sense of humour. They now how to convince their father for the marriage who is extremely against their relationships. Like every Sajid Khan film, the provides you with entertainment but is filled with cliche humour. The film went on to collect Rs. 195 crore at the box-office. Dishoom Dishoom was another masala entertainer that featured Jacquline Fernandez. The film is fast paced and is always on point which helps keeps the viewer engaged. A buddy cop film was a fresh attempt from Bollywood and it was done rather well. In the film, India’s top batsmen Viraj Sharma (Saqib Saleem) goes missing in Middle East (No guessing where the inspiration for that name came from). Two cops Kabir Shergill (John Abraham) and Junaid Ansari (Varun Dhawan) are assigned for a 36-hours man-hunt before the final match between India and Pakistan. Jacqueline Fernandez plays a thief who helps the police officers in the search of Viraj. The film went on to decent business at the box-office with a total of Rs. 120 crore.
A Flying Jatt The superhero genre has always been a hit and miss in India. This was another attempt that failed to live up to expectations. Directed by Remo D’Souza, the film starred Tiger Shroff and Jacqueline Fernandez in lead. In the film, we follow the story of Aman (Tiger Shroff), an average boy whose led to believe in doing good for others by his mother. Malhotra (Kay Kay Menon) wants to destroy the Sikh colony owned by Aman’s mother Bebe (Amrita Singh) and wants to build a factory. Aman is shown to be sitting by a tree praying for the safety of the colony and that very tree gives him superhero powers. With the help of these superpowers he protects his people and fights against crime in the city. Jacqueline Fernandez plays the character of Kirti, Aman’s love interest in the film. She is his constant source of motivation pushing him to make good use of his powers. A Flying Jatt was poorly received by critics and the audience.
2017 A Gentleman Gaurav (Sidharth Malhotra) is on a mission… a mission to settle down and start a family of his own while living a happy life. He sees his life partner in his colleague Kavya (Jacqueline Fernandez). But Kavya on the other hand is interested in someone who’s more adventurous and risk-loving. Gaurav visits Mumbai for a meeting and his doppelgänger Rishi, a spy on the run is about to bring a whole new twist in his life. The film gives you just enough to keep you interested in the story. A gentleman received mixed reviews and failed to pull in the crowd at the box-office. Judwaa 2 Judwaa 2, the reboot of 1997 release Judwaa. In the remake, which was also healed by David Dhawan who directed the original, Varun Dhawan stepped in the shoes of Salman Khan while Taapsee and Jacqueline Fernandez played the characters originally portrayed by Rambha and Karisma Kapoor respectively. Now since this was a remake the storyline for the film was just like the original. Jacquline featured in the remixed version of the song Chalti Hai Kya 9 Se 12 in the film which went on to become a massive hit. The original received a lot of love from the audience so it was expected that the remake would perform well given David Dhawan’s expertise in comedy and the popularity of the cast and it didn’t disappoint.
2018 Race 3 Race 3 followed a similar trajectory like the previous two instalments but underwent a major shift in casting as it introduced many new characters. Salman Khan stepped into the shoes of Saif Ali Khan as the main man and naturally is portrayed as a one man army in the film. Jacqueline Fernandez looked her gorgeous self and is a part of some stunning action sequences in the film. We already witness her sizzling chemistry with Salman in Kick and the two looked all things hot on screen in this film as well. While the film went a little overboard with the plot twists this time around, it seems like the audience didn’t mind it too much as the film had a decent run collecting just over Rs. 200 crore. from filmfares https://ift.tt/31vzQcE

The Suppression of Challenging the Status Quo
What if you had spent more than two decades of your life in painfully laborious research – and in doing so, you discovered an incredibly simple, electronic approach to helping literally every disease on the planet? That would be great; you’d be a hero, a rich hero! Your discovery would help end the pain and suffering of countless millions and change life on Earth forever. Certainly, one would think, the medical world would rush to embrace you with every imaginable accolade and financial reward imaginable. You would think so, wouldn’t you?
Unfortunately, arguably the greatest medical genius in all recorded history suffered a fate literally the opposite of the foregoing logical scenario. In fact, the history of medicine is replete with stories of genius betrayed by backward thought and jealousy, but most pathetically, by greed and money.
In the nineteenth century, Semmelweiss struggled mightily to convince surgeons that it was a good idea to sterilize their instruments and use sterile surgical procedures. Pasteur was ridiculed for years for his theory that germs could cause disease. Scores of other medical visionaries went through horrible ridicule and even losing their ability to practice for simply challenging the medical status quo of day, including such legends as Roentgen and his X-rays, Morton for promoting the absurd idea of anesthesia, Harvey for his theory of the circulation of blood, and many others in recent decades including: W.F. Koch, Revici, Burzynski, Naessens, Priore, Livingston-Wheeler, and Hoxsey.
Orthodox big-money medicine resents and seeks to neutralize and/or destroy those who challenge its beliefs. Often, the visionary who challenges it pays a heavy price for his heresy.
The Cancer Fundraising Sham
So, you have just discovered a new therapy, which can eradicate any microbial disease but, so far, you, and your amazing cure isn’t very popular. What do you do next? Well, certainly the research foundations and teaching institutions would welcome news of your astounding discovery. Won’t they be thrilled to learn you have a possible cure for the very same diseases they are receiving hundreds of millions of dollars per year to investigate? Maybe not, if it means the end of the gravy train. These people have mortgages to pay and families to support. A friend of mine, a cancer researcher at a major university, recently told me that when he questioned his authority about their purpose he was told, “We’re not here to find a cure for cancer, we’re here to get our next grant.”
Regardless of what you may believe, all the Walk-for-a-Cure and cancer fundraising does is feed countless organizations with voracious appetites and no desire to solve the problem that feeds them. Let’s get real for a moment, if you owned a drug company and your researchers came to you with a discovery that a new rain-forest herb cured lung cancer, an Indian spice that cured brain cancer, a common herb mixture that cures most cancers, and an electrical frequency device that cures all cancers, you’d have a choice: 1) declare it to the world and bankrupt the corporation putting thousands of individuals with families out of work turning the entire pharmaceutical industry into an unnecessary hoax, or 2) tell them to figure out a way they can synthesize a byproduct that can be patented and thereby make the company extremely profitable and destroy any evidence that may reveal the simplicity of the cure.
I can understand that we live in a capitalistic culture; I understand that profits must be made and people need to feed their families. I do NOT understand the evil conspiracies to forcefully shutdown and shut-up anything and anyone revealing the truth. Hollywood couldn’t write a better story.
Rife Technology
Here follows the story of exactly such a sensational therapy and what happened to the man who discovered it. It was a dark time in medical history when doctors and clinics would claim all sorts of “cures” and new devices popped up to solve all our ills. Many were nothing more than snake oil salesman, attempting to steal from the hurting population. But many were sincere, sacrificing their lives to find help for their patients. Royal Raymond Rife was of the latter variety, and his discovery of the benefits of light frequency, a remarkable electronic therapy, was sabotaged and buried by a ruthless group of men who, under the pretense of protecting the innocent would squash anything that they could not financially profit from. Rife’s work would re-emerge in the underground medical/alternative health world only since the 1970’s when it was re-introduced by some physicists. This is the story of Royal Raymond Rife and his fabulous discoveries and electronic instruments.
If you have never heard of Rife before, prepare to be angered and incredulous at what this great man achieved for all of us only to have it practically driven from the face of the planet. But, reserve your final judgment and decision until after you have read this.
Of course, some may regard this as just an amusing piece of fiction. However, for those who are willing to do some investigating on their own, there will be mentioned several highly-respected doctors and medical authorities who worked with Rife as well as some of the remarkable technical aspects of his creation. In the final analysis, the only real way to determine if such a revolutionary therapy exists is to experience it yourself. The medical literature is full of rigged “double-blind” clinical research tests, the results of which are often determined in advance by the vested corporate interests involved.
Royal Raymond Rife’s Story
Royal Raymond Rife was a brilliant scientist born in 1888 and died in 1971. After studying at Johns Hopkins, Rife developed technology which is still commonly used today in the fields of optics, electronics, radiochemistry, biochemistry, ballistics, and aviation. It is a fair statement that Rife practically developed bioelectric medicine himself. He received 14 major awards and honors and was given an honorary Doctorate by the University of Heidelberg for his work. During the 66 years that Rife spent designing and building medical instruments, he worked for Zeiss Optics, the U.S. Government, and several private benefactors. Most notable was millionaire Henry Timkin, of Timkin roller bearing fame. Timken was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame on September 19, 1998.
Because Rife was self-educated in so many different fields, he intuitively looked for his answers in areas beyond the rigid scientific structure of his day. He had mastered so many different disciplines that he literally had, at his intellectual disposal, the skills and knowledge of an entire team of scientists and technicians from a number of different scientific fields. So, whenever new technology was needed to perform a new task, Rife simply invented and then built it himself as was necessary for many scientists of his day.
Rife’s Inventions
Rife’s inventions include a heterodyning ultraviolet microscope, a micro-dissector, and a micromanipulator. When you thoroughly understand Rife’s achievements, you may well decide that he had one of the most gifted, versatile, scientific minds in human history. By 1920, Rife had finished building the world’s first virus microscope. By 1933, he had perfected that technology and had constructed the incredibly complex Universal Microscope, which had nearly 6,000 different parts and was capable of magnifying objects 60,000 times their normal size. With this incredible microscope, Rife became the first human being to actually see a live virus, and until quite recently, the Universal Microscope was the only one which was able view live viruses.
Modern electron microscopes instantly kill everything beneath them, viewing only the mummified remains and debris. What the Rife microscope can see is the bustling activity of living viruses as they change form to accommodate changes in environment, replicate rapidly in response to carcinogens, and transform normal cells into tumor cells.
Rife and Frequencies
But how was Rife able to accomplish this, in an age when electronics and medicine were still just evolving? Here are a few technical details to placate the skeptics. Rife painstakingly identified the individual spectroscopic signature of each microbe, using a slit spectroscope attachment. Then, he slowly rotated block quartz prisms to focus light of a single wavelength upon the microorganism he was examining. This wavelength was selected because it resonated with the spectroscopic signature frequency of the microbe based on the now-established fact that every molecule oscillates at its own distinct frequency.
The atoms that come together to form a molecule are held together in that molecular configuration with a covalent energy bond which both emits and absorbs its own specific electromagnetic frequency. No two species of molecule have the same electromagnetic oscillations or energetic signature. Resonance amplifies light in the same way two ocean waves intensify each other when they merge together.
On November 20, 1931, forty-four of the nation’s most respected medical authorities honored Royal Rife with a banquet billed as “The End To All Diseases” at the Pasadena estate of Dr. Milbank Johnson.
The result of using a resonant wavelength is that micro-organisms which are invisible in white light suddenly become visible in a brilliant flash of light when they are exposed to the color frequency that resonates with their own distinct spectroscopic signature. Rife was thus able to see these otherwise invisible organisms and watch them actively invading tissues cultures. Rife’s discovery enabled him to view organisms that no one else could see with ordinary microscopes.
More than 75% of the organisms Rife could see with his Universal Microscope are only visible with ultra-violet light. But ultraviolet light is outside the range of human vision; it is invisible to us. Rife’s brilliance allowed him to overcome this limitation by heterodyning, a technique which became popular in early radio broadcasting. He illuminated the microbe (usually a virus or bacteria) with two different wavelengths of the same ultraviolet light frequency which resonated with the spectral signature of the microbe. These two wavelengths produced interference where they merged. This interference was, in effect, a third, longer wave which fell into the visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. This was how Rife made invisible microbes visible without killing them, a feat which today’s electron microscopes cannot duplicate.
Rife Identifies Cancer
By this time, Rife was so far ahead of his colleagues of the 1930’s, that they could not comprehend what he was doing without actually traveling to San Diego to visit Rife’s laboratory to look through his Virus Microscope for themselves. And many did exactly that.
One was Virginia Livingston. She eventually moved from New Jersey to Rife’s Point Loma (San Diego) neighborhood and became a frequent visitor to his lab. Virginia Livingston is now often given the credit for identifying the organism which causes human cancer, beginning with research papers she began publishing in 1948.
In reality, Royal Rife had identified the human cancer virus first…in 1920! Rife then made over 20,000 unsuccessful attempts to transform normal cells into tumor cells. He finally succeeded when he irradiated the cancer virus, passed it through a cell-catching ultra-fine porcelain filter, and injected it into lab animals. Not content to prove this virus would cause one tumor, Rife then created 400 tumors in succession from the same culture. He documented everything with film, photographs, and meticulous records. He named the cancer virus Cryptocides primordiales.
Virginia Livingston, in her papers, renamed it Progenitor Cryptocides. Royal Rife was never even mentioned in her papers. In fact, Rife seldom got credit for his monumental discoveries. He was a quiet, unassuming scientist, dedicated to expanding his discoveries rather than to ambition, fame, and glory. His distaste for medical politics (which he could afford to ignore thanks to generous trusts set up by private benefactors) left him at a disadvantage later, when powerful forces attacked him. Coupled with the influence of the pharmaceutical industry in purging his papers from medical journals, it is hardly surprising that few have heard of Rife today.
Meanwhile, debate raged between those who had seen viruses changing into different forms beneath Rife’s microscopes, and those who had not. Those who condemned without investigation, such as the influential Dr. Thomas Rivers, claimed these forms didn’t exist. Because his microscope did not reveal them, Rivers argued that there was “no logical basis for belief in this theory.” The same argument is used today in evaluating many other alternative medical treatments; if there is no precedent, then it must not be valid. Nothing can convince a closed mind. Most had never actually looked though the San Diego microscopes…air travel in the 1930’s was uncomfortable, primitive, and rather risky. So, the debate about the life cycle of viruses was resolved in favor of those who never saw it (even modern electron microscopes show frozen images, not the life cycle of viruses in process.)
Nevertheless, many scientists and doctors have since confirmed Rife’s discovery of the cancer virus and its pleomorphic nature, using darkfield techniques, the Naessens microscope, and laboratory experiments. Rife also worked with the top scientists and doctors of his day who also confirmed or endorsed various areas of his work. They included: E.C. Rosenow, Sr. (longtime Chief of Bacteriology, Mayo Clinic); Arthur Kendall (Director, Northwestern Medical School); Dr. George Dock (internationally-renowned); Alvin Foord (famous pathologist); Rufus Klein-Schmidt (President of USC); R.T.
