Finbinding Progress Dump

per request from @flymetosnarryland 😉 I'll try to get a proper, cohesive progress photoshoot for the next one (tentatively In Between Days, or maybe A Choriambic Progression.)

This was my first print job to test printing a signature. I figured it was best to start small to make sure I knew what the heck I was doing before printing a longer work.

I then printed (not pictured) In My Veins (In My Blood) to test printing multiple signatures. But without being a lot. It was enough for 2 so that's what I went with!

This was my first time stitching signatures. I went ahead and stitched the 2 signatures for In My Veins (In My Blood) since I figured it was best to start small. The thread looks insane because it was recommended to use waxed thread, so I bought waxed thread, and WOW was that sucker waxed. I very quickly nixed the waxed thread and went to using regular thread.

Oh yeah I did a whole text block of The White Road with the waxed thread, too. Yikes. 0/10, do not recommend. Really can't get a tight stitch when your thread is so friggin' THICK.

My first time gluing chipboard to leather sheets. But the leather my partner originally got me came in sheets instead of a roll, so we have this really awkward shot of 2 sheets stuck together, and the very clear sight of how awkward my chipboard cuts look 😂

When I moved away from waxed thread, I remembered I had a sewing kit somewhere (rarely used.) That's the black thread. So I stitched my first text block after the waxed thread with my on-hand sewing thread. But then I ordered unwaxed thread from Hollanders, which is....the giant. I shared this photo with friends with the caption "My new thread be like 'you can call me daddy 😎'" (cuz I am HILARIOUS.)

This was in the middle of stitching a text block, making good use of my new clamps! Also showing my beloved curved needle. I used a straight needle for all of two seconds. The curved needle is where it's at, even if I stab myself a lot with it.

This is a freshly stitched Fragile Hearts text block! A bit uneven and messy, but complete!

This was before stitching Chrysalis! I had all the signatures clamped together and ready to go!

Aaaaand I think those are all the progress pics I have! I'll try to document the next round better just to have a better idea of how it goes! Especially now that I have a better idea of what I'm doing. Not a pro by any means, but I've at least successfully bound 3 fics now! 😀
