Greta girlies who are going to PEI this September, as a girlie who lives in the general area of Canada where PEI is located, I’ll tell you a little bit about PEI.
1 - PEI is gorgeous. We may get lucky and have superb weather cause sometimes September is pretty warm. The beaches are amazing and even if it’s not warm enough to go swimming, there’s great boardwalks and nice beaches to walk on.
2 - Red sand and red dirt. The sand and dirt is this reddish/rusty colour and it’s pretty cool. The soil in PEI is very rich in minerals so because of that there’s a lot of farms. If you’re driving anywhere outside of Charlottetown (the capital city of PEI), Summerside or Cavendish you’ll encounter loads and loads of farms.
3 - home of Anne of green gables. Lots of themed things related to her and her story around PEI, especially in the Cavendish area (where the festival grounds are). The Cavendish beach area is tourist central. There’s loads of things to do there if you don’t want to spend all day at the festival
4 - fantastic food. Lots of seafood if you like seafood.
5 - you either have to take a 13km (~8 miles) long bridge or a ferry to get there. If you’re driving up from Maine the bridge is the faster way to go. If you’re flying into the main airport in Atlantic Canada, you’ll also probably end up taking the bridge. It costs $50+ tax CAD to leave the Island via bridge. The bridge is a bit daunting if you don’t like bridges but it’s very safe of course.
6 - in Canada, the drinking age is 19 in case you weren’t aware. Also, weed is legal. If you’re in Charlottetown, you may see one of the cannabis stores. They don’t allow smoking at the festival but people will sneak weed and cigarettes in.
Soooo excited to see Greta this September and I can’t believe they’re playing a festival that’s so close to where I live!

A Journey Through Time: The History of Cannabis
Cannabis, often referred to as marijuana, weed, or pot, has a rich and complex history that spans thousands of years. This humble plant has been used for various purposes, from medicinal and spiritual to recreational and industrial. In this blog, we will embark on a journey through time to explore the fascinating history of cannabis.
Ancient Beginnings
Cannabis has its roots in ancient civilizations, with evidence of its use dating back to 500 BC in Asia. The earliest recorded use of cannabis comes from ancient Chinese texts, where it was described as a medicinal herb. It was used to treat various ailments, including pain, nausea, and even childbirth pain.
In India, cannabis had spiritual significance and was associated with the Hindu god Shiva. It was used in religious rituals and ceremonies to attain higher states of consciousness. This tradition continues today with the use of cannabis in various Hindu festivals.
Tumblr media
Spread Across Continents
Graine de cannabis (cannabis seeds) gradually spread to other parts of the world. By 200 AD, it had reached the Middle East, where it was used for medicinal and recreational purposes. Ancient Egyptians utilized cannabis as a treatment for glaucoma and inflammation.
In Africa, the plant found its way into indigenous cultures, where it was used for medicinal and spiritual purposes. It was also utilized as a natural fiber for clothing and ropes.
Cannabis in the New World
The history of cannabis in the Americas can be traced back to the colonial period. European settlers brought cannabis seeds with them, and it quickly became an important crop. In fact, in the early days of the United States, farmers were legally required to grow hemp, a non-psychoactive variety of graine de cannabis, because of its versatile uses in textiles, paper, and rope.
As time went on, cannabis began to be associated with recreational use, and by the early 20th century, various American states had started to regulate or prohibit it.
The War on Drugs
The 20th century saw a significant shift in the perception and legality of cannabis. In the 1930s, campaigns against the plant began, fueled by fears of its psychoactive effects. The Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 was a significant turning point, effectively criminalizing the possession and sale of cannabis.
The "War on Drugs" declared by President Richard Nixon in the 1970s intensified the crackdown on cannabis, leading to strict drug policies and mandatory minimum sentences for drug offenses. This era marked a sharp departure from the plant's long history of medicinal and recreational use.
Tumblr media
The Changing Landscape
In recent decades, attitudes toward cannabis have started to shift once again. Scientific research has uncovered the plant's potential therapeutic benefits, leading to the legalization of medical cannabis in various countries and U.S. states. Uruguay became the first country to fully legalize cannabis in 2013, followed by several U.S. states and Canada.
Today, many nations are reevaluating their cannabis policies, decriminalizing possession, and even legalizing recreational use. This changing landscape reflects a growing recognition of the plant's potential benefits and the need for sensible regulation.
Conclusion
The history of cannabis is a testament to its versatility and the dynamic nature of human attitudes towards it. From ancient medicinal and spiritual uses to its stigmatization during the 20th century, cannabis has weathered many storms. As the world reconsiders its stance on this remarkable plant, its story continues to evolve. Whether it's for medicinal, recreational, or industrial purposes, cannabis remains a captivating and influential part of human history.

What Is The Bulldog Amsterdam? The Story Behind the Legendary Coffeeshop
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What Is The Bulldog Amsterdam? Inside the Legendary Coffeeshop That Started It All
The scent of cannabis lingers in the air, laughter echoes through the room, and travelers from all over the world gather in a dimly lit space that feels like home. This is The Bulldog Amsterdam, the legendary coffee shop that became a symbol of cannabis culture. Known for its distinctive branding and pioneering role in Dutch coffee shop history, The Bulldog has grown from a small cannabis lounge in Amsterdam’s Red Light District to an international brand with hotels, bars, and merchandise worldwide. As the company approaches its 50th anniversary, the founder’s daughter, Chantal de Vries, is leading an effort to restore its original essence while expanding its global presence.
The Birth of an Empire: Red Light District Roots
To understand the Bulldog brand, we must go back to its beginnings in the early 1970s. Amsterdam’s Red Light District was a chaotic mix of crime, unregulated prostitution, and hard drugs. Among the locals was a young entrepreneur, Henk de Vries, who had ambitions beyond his father’s pornography shop.In 1970, the Holland Pop Festival in Kralingse Bos near Rotterdam sought to bring the counterculture movement of Woodstock to the Netherlands. Henk attended, handing out cannabis for free. When he saw people reselling what he had given away, he recognized a business opportunity.Returning to Amsterdam, he started selling cannabis at the festival. In a historic moment, Dutch police turned a blind eye to cannabis consumption, marking the early days of the Netherlands’ gedoogbeleid (tolerance policy). This event set the stage for what would become "The Bulldog."
The First Coffeeshop: "The Living Room of Amsterdam"
Henk's early cannabis business flourished, but his journey was interrupted when he was imprisoned in Germany for cannabis trafficking. After serving his sentence, he returned to Amsterdam in 1974, only to find the city gripped by a heroin epidemic. Many of his friends had fallen into addiction, reinforcing his belief that cannabis should be available as a safer alternative. That same year, Henk inherited his father’s pornography store but decided to transform it into something different. In 1975, he opened the first-ever cannabis coffeeshop at Oudezijds Voorburgwal 90, naming it "The Bulldog" after his beloved English bulldog, Joris. The shop quickly became a haven for cannabis enthusiasts, offering a relaxed environment where customers could smoke, play games, and socialize. The cozy, welcoming vibe earned it the nickname "the living room of Amsterdam."
Social Responsibility: Partnership with the Salvation Army
Despite his rebellious nature, Henk had a strong sense of social responsibility. As a child, he had been helped by Majoor Bossard, a leader of the Salvation Army in the Netherlands, and he never forgot her kindness. When he started making money, he vowed to give back to the community. The Bulldog partnered with the Salvation Army to support vulnerable groups in Amsterdam, particularly women in the Red Light District and those struggling with addiction. Henk regularly donated money and supplies to the organization, and The Bulldog Foundation continues this legacy today. The foundation funds annual charity events, provides meals and clothing to those in need, and actively works to improve conditions for disadvantaged individuals in the city.
Expansion and Commercialization
The Bulldog’s success led to rapid expansion, transforming it from a single coffeeshop into a global brand. Here’s a timeline of key milestones:- 1980s: Opened additional coffeeshops in Amsterdam, launched Bulldog-branded merchandise. - 1990s: Expanded internationally with locations in Canada, Spain, and Italy; introduced cannabis-related accessories. - 2000s: Diversified into hotels, restaurants, and bars; converted a former police station into a coffeeshop as a symbolic nod to its rebellious past. - 2010s: The brand reached new heights, drawing comparisons to Hard Rock Cafe for its global branding efforts.Today, The Bulldog operates 14 locations in the Netherlands, along with establishments in multiple countries, catering to both cannabis enthusiasts and mainstream hospitality seekers. Legal Battles and Business Challenges

Having become overly reliant on tourists, the brand lost touch with its local roots. This realization led to a strategic shift—revamping marketing, hosting community events, and introducing new product offerings to reestablish its connection with the Amsterdam community.
The Future of The Bulldog: Balancing Legacy and Expansion
As The Bulldog approaches its 50th anniversary, the company faces a crossroads: how to balance its rich heritage with modern expansion. Chantal de Vries, now at the helm, is leading efforts to restore the brand’s original essence while positioning it as a premium global business. This includes:- Upgrading product quality and customer experience. - Developing exclusive anniversary merchandise. - Expanding the hospitality business beyond cannabis.“We want to be known for all aspects of our business, not just the weed,” Chantal explains. “That includes our hotels, restaurants, and clothing. We want The Bulldog to be a brand people trust and respect worldwide.”

Navigating the Green Frontier: Cannabis Culture in New Brunswick
In the heart of Canada's eastern landscape lies a province that boasts not only stunning natural beauty but also a burgeoning cannabis culture. New Brunswick, often overlooked in discussions about cannabis, has quietly emerged as a hub for enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, and policymakers alike. As the cannabis industry continues to evolve, New Brunswick stands at the forefront of innovation and progress, offering a unique perspective on the intersection of culture, economy, and regulation.
A Brief History of Cannabis in New Brunswick
New Brunswick's relationship with cannabis traces back centuries, intertwined with Indigenous cultures that recognized its medicinal and spiritual significance long before European colonization. However, it wasn't until Canada legalized recreational cannabis in 2018 that the province fully embraced its potential. Since then, New Brunswick has navigated the complexities of legalization with a blend of pragmatism and ambition, establishing itself as a trailblazer in the industry.
The Rise of the Cannabis Industry
With legalization came opportunity, and New Brunswick wasted no time in capitalizing on the burgeoning cannabis market. The province became home to several licensed producers, including Organigram and Zenabis, which have played pivotal roles in shaping the industry's growth. These companies have not only stimulated economic activity but have also contributed to job creation and innovation within the province.
Moreover, New Brunswick's retail landscape has evolved to accommodate the growing demand for cannabis products. Cannabis NB, the province's retail arm, has established a network of stores that offer a wide range of products, from dried flower to edibles, catering to diverse consumer preferences. This accessibility has not only driven revenue but has also helped destigmatize cannabis use, fostering a culture of acceptance and education.
Cannabis Tourism: Discovering New Brunswick's Green Delights
Beyond its economic impact, cannabis has also emerged as a significant driver of tourism in New Brunswick. Visitors from across Canada and beyond are drawn to the province's scenic beauty and vibrant cannabis scene. From guided tours of licensed facilities to cannabis-themed events and festivals, there's no shortage of experiences for enthusiasts to indulge in.
Moreover, New Brunswick's embrace of cannabis extends beyond recreational use, with a growing interest in its medicinal properties. The province is home to research initiatives exploring the therapeutic potential of cannabis, offering hope to patients seeking alternative treatments for various ailments. This convergence of science, tourism, and culture underscores New Brunswick's status as a progressive leader in the cannabis space.
Challenges and Opportunities Ahead
Despite its successes, New Brunswick faces its share of challenges as it continues to navigate the cannabis landscape. Regulatory hurdles, supply chain issues, and competition from other provinces pose ongoing concerns for industry stakeholders. Moreover, ensuring responsible consumption and addressing social equity remain paramount goals for policymakers.
However, amidst these challenges lie opportunities for growth and innovation. By fostering collaboration between government, industry, and community stakeholders, New Brunswick can further solidify its position as a cannabis pioneer. Continued investment in research, education, and infrastructure will be crucial in harnessing the full potential of the cannabis industry while safeguarding the well-being of its residents.
Conclusion
As cannabis continues to weave its way into the fabric of Canadian society, New Brunswick stands as a shining example of adaptability and progress. From its rich history to its vibrant industry and burgeoning tourism, the province offers a compelling narrative of resilience and innovation. As we look to the future, New Brunswick's journey serves as a reminder of the transformative power of cannabis and the boundless opportunities it presents for communities across Canada and beyond.

Cannabis Pharmaceuticals Market: A Potent Revolution in Healthcare
Welcome to the world of cannabis pharmaceuticals, where the grass is not only greener but also potentially life-changing! In this not-so-secret garden of medicinal wonders, the Global Cannabis Pharmaceuticals Market is flourishing like never before. Hold on to your hats (or maybe your hemp hats) as we take a stroll through the high lanes of this thriving industry.
Tumblr media
The Green Wave of Growth:
Imagine a market that goes from a humble USD 1.5 billion in 2022 to a mind-boggling USD 115.27 billion by 2031 — that’s not a typo, it’s the reality of the Cannabis Pharmaceuticals Market. With a growth rate that even Elon Musk’s rockets would envy (62% CAGR), this market is on a trajectory that could make your investment portfolio feel like a winner.
Healing Highs:
What’s propelling this exponential growth, you ask? Well, it turns out that cannabis isn’t just for the cool kids at music festivals; it’s making a name for itself in the medical world. Chronic conditions like arthritis, cancer, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s are bowing down to the therapeutic properties of cannabis. It’s like the superhero of the plant kingdom, swooping in to manage neurological disorders such as depression, epilepsy, and anxiety.
Global Cannabis Love Affair:
If you thought your neighbor’s herb garden was impressive, wait till you hear about the global acceptance of cannabis. Countries around the world are hopping on the cannabis bandwagon faster than you can say “herbal remedy.” From Canada to Croatia, the US to the UK, the list goes on. The MORE Act in the U.S. is just the tip of the iceberg, signaling a global trend of legalizing cannabis for therapeutic use. It’s like the world collectively decided, “Hey, maybe this plant is onto something.”
Market Snapshot —
Hold on to Your Pot Brownies: As we zoom into the future (2024–2031), the numbers are enough to make even the most seasoned investor do a double-take. With North America leading the charge, the market is set to create a green carpet across regions like Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East & Africa. And no, it’s not just about smoking joints — we’re talking about a market where Epidiolex reigns supreme, and Sativex is the fastest-growing star.
Brand Wars —
Because Even Cannabis Needs a Mascot: In the epic battle of brands, Epidiolex is holding its ground with a whopping 97.5% market share. It’s like the superhero that everyone roots for, especially after getting the nod from countries like Israel, Finland, and Germany. On the other hand, the “other” brands are gearing up for a market takeover with a projected growth rate of 76.1%. SciSparc’s Phase-IIa clinical trial is like the superhero sequel — you didn’t see it coming, but it’s about to change the game.

From the United Kingdom to Canada, Israel to Colombia, these companies are not your average pot farmers; they’re the pioneers of cannabis-derived pharmaceuticals. WHAT MAKES A DRUG A DRUG | Drum sounds and good vibes are in the air and so is weed. Montreal. The summer sun has finally kissed the long winter goodbye and it’s time for Tam-Tams, an informal weekly music festival. The police tolerate the cannabis, as long as it isn’t consumed in front of kids. Marijuana isn’t legal here yet, but almost. Next month Canada will become the third country in the world to legalize weed; Trudeau following in the footsteps of legendary down to earth Uruguayan ex-president José Mujica and former Soviet Union country Georgia. After all, whether you find a substance on the index or on your supermarket shelf depends on the arbitrary label put on it by lawmakers. Alcohol and tobacco, two highly addictive and hazardous substances, are legal, while marihuana has been demonized and banned for the longest time, despite its medicinal value. Weed, shrooms, ayahuasca, opium, mescaline, cocaine, heroin – all these are plants or derived from plants and several of them have been in medicinal or recreational use for thousands of years. But the reason they’ve intrigued some is the same reason they’re feared by others:  their ability to alter our perception and state of mind, shoving us out of the driver’s seat and take over control of our consciousness.

2021 Christmas Ads
‘Tis once again the season for heart-tugging holiday ads from around the world, in particular the UK where Christmas adverts are a much anticipated holiday tradition. Think big-budget, water cooler Super Bowl commercials in the U.S., but with more Santa.
We’re talking more mini-movie than mere sales pitch. Our family actually spends at least one night a season just watching our favorite holiday commercials, as much a tradition as any Christmas special.
To make them a little easier to find, I’ve compiled all the heartfelt, emotional and imminently re-watchable 2021 Christmas advert links on one page, as I also did in 2020. Unlike with my TV and theatrical lists, don’t strive to include every single ad with a Christmas tree or holiday pitch, just those that tell a story or particularly evoke those warm and fuzzy festive feels.
