2020 is almost over !! It’s been an exhausting year, and we’re all looking forward to a new beginning, so there’s never a better time for a little introspection. All the better if you can help other people while you do it !! The COVID-19 pandemic has been awful for everyone, but has especially harmed indigenous peoples, including in Standing Rock, SD. Here’s a way that you can help: make a donation at one of the following links to help support the Lakota Well-Being Project, and receive a Tarot reading in return.
STANDING ROCK LOCAL AMBULANCE FUND. “Lakota Well-Being Project is a team of Standing Rock frontline workers and descendants of medicine people seeking to double the capacity of local ambulances. Nearly all emergency calls now are Covid-19 related, and people are dying because only 3 ambulances serve an area roughly the size of Connecticut. Please help us obtain 3 more ambulances so we may save lives. Thanks to a generous matching gift, every dollar you give will be matched up to $10,000 [until December 31st].”
STANDING ROCK GRASSROOTS COVID-19 RELIEF FUND. “The funds from this campaign will be used to make direct purchases, or reimbursement of purchases by volunteers, of medical supplies and equipment, as well as essentials support those quarantining, set up telemedicine, and obtain local ambulances. The funds will also be used to cover the shipping and delivery of these supplies. Other purchases made will include water & food, and other items necessary to keep our beneficiaries socially distanced. We will also invest in a media campaign to urge people to stay home, socially distance, embrace sterilizing practices, and implement other public education initiatives in regards to health & emergency medical services.”
From the Lakota Well-Being Project: “With a high number of elderly, diabetic, asthmatic, heart diseased, cancer-afflicted, and other high-risk individuals — We are facing unprecedented challenges... Many families in Standing Rock live in multi-generational homes which pose a challenge for self-isolating and quarantining. Standing Rock also regularly has roughly 80% unemployment, and with the impact of Covid-19, families are struggling to access both food and basic essential necessities.”

I will offer the following readings / packages at the following donation points:
10-card Celtic Cross | $30 Add a 3-card Oracle Spread | + $5 30-40 minutes, available over text or voice call. This is most likely what you’d get if you were to purchase a professional reading at a new age or psychic shop or fair. The Celtic Cross is one of the best spreads for a wider overview of what’s happening in your life, or for more general look toward the future.
6-card Pyramid Spread | $20 Add a 3-card Oracle Spread | + $5 20-30 minutes, available over text or voice call. This spread is best for working through specific problems arising — isolating the cause and the consequences, and re-centering yourself to better understand the next steps you should take. Excellent for introspection and self-reflection.
5-card ‘Ponder This’ Spread | $15 Add a 3-card Oracle Spread | + $5 15-20 minutes, available over text or voice call. This spread is best for taking stock of the present, and getting a good look at where you are in your life before you decide on the direction to take for your future. I also call this a ‘begin-again spread and use it often for redirecting my focus where it’s needed.
Decks available: Fairy Lights Tarot (see examples & review here) | Tarot of the Secret Forest (see examples & review here) | Fenestra Tarot (see examples & review here) | Deviant Moon Tarot (see examples & review here) | Radleigh Valentine Angel Tarot (see examples & review here) | Halloween Tarot (see examples & review here)
All of these price points are consistent with (or even lower than) what you’ll find with most professionals operating out of shops. A little note on my qualifications: I’ve been reading Tarot for the past thirteen years with a lot of success, and prior to COVID-19 and the stay-at-home orders which followed, I was two months into regular Tarot readings through a local shop, and had been featured in their walking Psychic Fair. I’ve also done Tarot for donations and fundraising in the past, and have been reading for friends for years.
Submit proof of donation to me through Tumblr’s IM feature and we’ll discuss which reading & deck you’d like, and we’ll schedule a time to sit down. All readings available either through text or voice chat; voice chat is much easier and quicker, and will allow us to have more of a back-and-forth as I read.
Disclaimer: all Tarot reading for entertainment purposes. I am not a financial advisor, life coach, or doctor; please use your own discretion and judgment when determining whether or not to follow any direction offered through a reading. I use Tarot as an introspective tool, and encourage others to do the same — how can I better understand my reality and my present, how can I direct my energy in self-reflection and manifestation?

Not to be that person, but look for a Fenestra Tarot deck. Everyone I know that has one, including myself, has reported that their deck is firm but kind.
Oooo, and it’s super pretty. 😍🥺

rethinking how I use tarot cards
I’ve got like half a dozen decks, thanks to Kara’s eclectic approach to the occult. listed in approximate descending order of when I acquired them, the decks are
1. the Ibis Tarot
http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/ibis/
a gift from my witchy friend Kaylin Evergreen, who intended it to deepen my bond with Thoth, a god whom we both honor. and indeed it has become an enduring link with “birb god” (to use Kel the Purple’s fanciful term for Thoth). lately it has been my primary tarot deck—not counting “virtual” tarot through Discord bot, which is a convenient ancillary tool.
2. the Tarot of the Northern Shadows
http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/northern-shadows/
this wasn’t a gift from Kaylin but she was with me when I found the deck in a bookshop we both frequent, so I associate the deck somewhat with her. it’s a deck influenced by Germanic (not just Norse) paganism, and there’s something unsettling about its imagery for me...I think it’s because of the all-white background. there’s a very amusing depiction of Fenrir in the deck somewhere (can’t remember which card exactly.)
more below the cut!
3. the Thoth tarot
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thoth_tarot_deck
the deck designed chiefly by Lady Frieda Harris at the behest of notorious (but useful) Victorian occult figure Aleister Crowley. I have a complicated history with this deck: I bought one on sight at an occult store in Portland, Oregon, the day after (or was it the same day? it was afterward, anyway) the noteworthy solar eclipse of 2 July 2019. I had travelled to Oregon to see the eclipse from the home of an old friend’s brother who happened to live within the path of the eclipse, and on the way back we went to a witchy shop and I bought the Thoth deck there because it was a small-size deck (I had some idea back then that a smaller deck would be easier to carry around and be more handy) and because I was favorably inclined to the imagery, which seemed to draw heavily from the conventions of scientific illustration. I used that deck for a time, chiefly when doing tarot at my workplace. it suffered some water damage, to the Prince of Disks card specifically, and I ended up substituting the unicursal hexagram card included in the deck (see below) in its place. and the deck ended up destroyed due to water damage, in transit to and from work ☹️ as a result I’ve tended to associate the Prince of Disks card with that particular job, a dirty and exhausting one, at a factory that turned waste oil into biodiesel.
the Thoth deck I currently own is another gift from Kaylin, and it’s an “ordinary” size deck. I used to employ this deck (and its smaller predecessor) as my primary link to the god Thoth, despite the lack of any real connection in tradition. Crowley was a horrible appropriator of other cultures’ mystical traditions, and I am uncertain as to the reason for the “Thoth” name, but Thoth liked that I was using something with his name on it, at least. he’s been pretty forgiving of my use of pop-culture associations instead of a more traditional approach. but then I switched to the Ibis Tarot as my Thoth-connected deck.
4. the Hanson-Roberts tarot
http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/hanson-roberts/
this was the “portable” (i.e. smaller-sized) deck I got after I lost the small-size Thoth deck that I talked about previously. it’s had a rather specific place in Kara’s and my magical practice: it’s the deck that’s tucked away in the coffee-table drawer for when I’m watching TV and suddenly feel moved to do a quick shuffle of tarot cards. and you know, I think that’s a good place for it still. it’s a very nice average tarot deck
5. the Fenestra tarot
http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/fenestra/
this deck was another gift from Kaylin. (Kaylin’s been really keen to get me into magic, can you tell? I love her) anyway, this was her personal deck for a time, and I keep this deck near to me now. for a time it was my main deck, but I’ve been working the Ibis Tarot more for that, lately. the Fenestra deck is the one I reserve for more personal work. I should do that more, heh
6. the Universal Waite tarot
https://www.tarot.com/tarot/decks/universal-waite
yeah it’s in a box on a shelf somewhere

Day one of the #amethystdcc, the favorite deck. My favorite is the Fenestra Tarot (as you can probably tell by the well-weathered box). It was the second deck that I ever bought after my learning deck, and even after nearly 10 years it’s still the deck I turn to for comfort. It gives me gentle truth when I need it, but at the same time it’s also completely unafraid to read me for filth if necessary.
I love the softness of the colors, as well as the feeling of immediately stepping into emotions as I turn each card over. It’s the easiest deck for me to read emotionally/intuitively. I love this deck so much.

Tarot for Today ~ 01/04/19
Tumblr media
TAROT FOR TODAY - your daily close-up of the cards!
KING OF PENTACLES:
Mister Dependable ~ This King is the typical Family Man ~ he is concerned about providing for them, is warm and kind, yet practical and to the point.
He is good at managing the day-to-day household tasks and takes his fair share of the chores! He cooks, cleans, puts the kids to bed, does dishes and laundry.
This modern man does not need his woman doing those things for him! In fact, he loves pampering her too! Breakfast in bed will not just be for birthdays or Valentine...
He will likely have a steady job that brings in enough money to afford everything a family needs. At work he will be a capable role-model for less experienced colleagues.
But sometimes, he can over-tip the the scales - he can become a bit tedious and a tad boring/predictable - at his worst, he can be obsessed with status-symbols and keeping up with the Joneses. He can be prone to bragging and obsessed with owning the latest technology.
When this card appears in a reversed position, you may be dealing with someone who is financially inept, a bit of a leech!
But most often there are many admirable qualities to be found in a man like this ~ of course, as usual: the King does not HAVE to represent a male, many females can share these same attributes!! Xxx

My current tarot decks (in order of acquisition date):
1) An inherited “trainer” Rider-Waite deck—and by trainer I mean the meanings are literally printed on the cards. Super spicy spirit house that I haven’t used since I was 15 because it’s been in time out. It mellowed when I had a kid/line to continue the gift along, but we’re still eyeballing each other even a couple decades later. This deck also refuses to be photographed/appear on Zoom, etc. so it has a place of honor to be it’s glorious grumpy elder self …away from anyone actually using it.
2) A Fenestra deck I bought myself about a decade ago. My “go to” deck, and the one I trained myself to memorize meanings on.
3) a gifted Fae tarot deck—sits in quarantine until I figure out how I feel about the fae, and how they sit in my actual belief system
4) A random Arthurian tarot deck, but it may actually be a Norse deck? It was an older deck I bought from a local metaphysical library when they were condensing their collection. Great for public readings and people I don’t necessarily want around my other decks for whatever reason.

Documentation
We are now on the fifth week, and overall we have made great progress. We have been having meetings at the start of the day for everyone to discuss our progress and goals for the day. During the meetings, we mention our past contributions to the project and update our stopping point. With this information, we gather an understanding of where we should continue, drift our focus on a prioritizing part, or decide if it’s an all-hands-on-deck situation. Since we are planning to submit a paper to a conference by the end of this week, we decided to work on the paper. We are all working on our individual documents that include the same information we will have but with different perspectives. This allows us to review our progress and update our process if we missed any essential points we did not come across in our paper. Once we finish our reports, we will review and combine portions of our document in an individual final draft.
We can take many approaches when composing our individual papers, such as explaining the Thanatos Fenestra from an HCI perspective, making contributions with memory studies, or how this project is a slow technology. But we will focus on defining our progress in reconstructing the Thanatos Fenestra. This paper will help us review and reflect on how much we have done since we will be covering activity from the first few weeks. Not only does completing this paper give us the opportunity for our work to be featured at a conference, but helps me initiate my capstone paper. Most of the information I will cover in the individual article will overlap with additional content in my capstone paper. Such information includes readings I have reflected on over the previous blogs, which include memory studies and slow technology data.

Happy Pride !! Considering current events, it feels a little funny celebrating much of anything when Black people are suffering and dying because of racist cops, politicians, and systems. Since Pride itself was built on the love, hard work, and sacrifice of people of color, especially Black people, it’s time to offer that same support back. I’ll be celebrating Pride by offering Tarot readings in exchange for donations to any of the following organizations & bail funds —
Black Lives Matter national
Albany Bail Fund for Black Lives
Atlanta Solidarity Fund
Chicago Community Bond Fund
Louisville Community Bail Fund
People’s City Council Freedom Fund
…or any of the other locally specific bail funds listed through the National Bail Fund Network.

Decks available: Fairy Lights Tarot (see examples & review here) | Fenestra Tarot (see examples & review here) | Wild Unknown Tarot (see examples & review here) | Deviant Moon Tarot (see examples & review here) | Radleigh Valentine Angel Tarot (see examples & review here)

“This card’s name refers to the way in which humans transform their own consciousness. The posture of the Magician is a representation of human effort and artifice as channels for powers greater than human beings themselves. The four traditional Hermetic instruments lie on the table near by: a chalice, a staff, a sword, and nine coins. The lemniscate over his head represents control; the white band encircling the Magician’s brow and snake binding his waist represent the limitation of ignorance by knowledge, and not the reverse as it is sometimes supposed. The roses symbolize desire, and the lilies, again, symbolize knowledge. The nine coins and the Wheel of Fortune inscribed on the disc of the sun represent important numerological connections of this major arcanum to the nine of Pentacles, the Wheel, the Sun, and the Hermit.” -Jessie Young
Playing With Sticks & Stones
Magician card of the Tarot offers a way to turn ideas into physical objects and bring down to earth a reflection of the evolving mind to the Universe. As a scribe and house builder, he echoes the Intelligence that makes all things what they are.
Understanding His Mission
Working with all the elements, he fashions the things he needs and brings about and sets into motion the process that ends with the Hermit. To learn more about his mission, you can read The Way of Life and Death.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a page from Wicca a Year and a Day, which I highly recommend…this is an old book, but recently they released Wicca Another Year and a Day! I can’t wait to read it!
The Magician is card number one in the Tarot. One is a number that carries a masculine energy. In its essence, the Magician and the number one represent forward-moving, directed willpower. The Magician stands before his altar with the four of the magical tools spread before him. He holds a phallic wand in his upraised right hand. The Lamnescate, the symbol for eternity, floats above the magician’s head. The energy of the magician is that of fire; it is the primal energy that sustains creative action.
Divinatory Meaning:
In a reading, the Magician represents the power to create change. When this card appears in the reading, remind the questioner that he or she holds all of the tools necessary for success. Once you are able to change your consciousness, you are able to change your circumstance. It also means that it is time to become active, to take some necessary practical action.
Meditation:
Close your eyes and take several deep breaths. Imagine that you travel through time and space until you stand before the most primal of energies–the force behind all creation. How does this energy appear to you? As you stand there, begin to inhale and exhale slowly. As you inhale imagine that you draw this force into your being. Fill your body entirely until there is no “you” left–only this creative force. After that, open your eyes. How does it feel to be one with the power of the Magician?
Be the Magician for the Day…
The final exercise with this day in Wicca a Year and a Day is to Be the Magician for the Day. I’ve read and tried many forms of the “Card a Day” way of learning, but this takes it to another level that I enjoy very much!
“Keep the Magician card with you at all times this day, or place it on your altar. Stay focused on action today. What is it that you need to accomplish? Do you have the goals? If not, why not? Set some goals today. Write down the steps to achieve your daily goals and complete each step. The Power behind magic is movement–So stay active until you achieve your goals.
“What we have to learn to do, we learn by doing.”

Ingredients
The Sun Card
The Magician Card
The Star Card
Apple
Method: Visualization, and Meditation
Weight-loss spells are best cast during the waning moon. As the moon shrinks, so does your waistline. Ruled by Venus, apples are the most magical fruit, a symbol of the witch. The Sun card represents ultimate health, the Magician is assertive energy, and the Star is your weight-loss goal.
Place the Sun card. Place your attention on the sun’s face. Feel the heat radiating out of the sphere, sinking into your skin, warming your body. It pumps and powers everything you do. Place one hand on your hearth and the other on your belly. Spread the warmth through your entire body. Envision the healthiest version of you possible. Your body is the perfect physical machine to house your soul. Decide at once that you will feed your body healthy and life-sustaining foods.
Place the Magician card. See him channeling the healthy energy of the sun. He is the conduit of this powerful electrical current.
Place the Star card. Feel yourself standing naked under the night sky. Peace and calm fill you. You know who you are. You know you are perfect. You achieve your goal effortlessly.
Eat your apple. Linger on the tart, sweet flavor.
Imagine the mix of sun, seed, and organic matter that created this apple. You are energy consuming energy. Know you have already achieved your goal. If health and taste permit, eat an apple every single day, mindfully recalling your spell, until you hit your goal weight.

Hi! I've been wanting to get into tarot reading but I'm struggling to find a set of cards that I think will be good for me. Do you have any recommendations?
There is no one best set of tarot cards, since its best to go with one you feel connected with, but here are my favorites (and my best friends because I asked them too)
Wild Unknown
Starseed
Lumina
