FINALLY answering these im so sorry lmao

High priestess: Which does Rook obey more, their head or their heart?

Ithelanas is pretty well balanced by the time the events of Veilguard roll around, but it took a LONG time for him to mellow out like that. When he first started with the Inquisition, he was in the habit of ignoring his feelings (his heart) in favor of "logic" or following orders (his head). It wasnt that he never did things impulsively or followed his own path, its just that he agonized about it for weeks, and made himself and everyone around him miserable in the process. Meeting and falling in love with Revasulahn (my inquisitor), helped start him on unlearning that habit. Letting go of the FOMO/regret cycle he was so prone to definitely saved him a lot of grief during the regret prison quest sequence in Veilguard.

This got LONG so the rest are under the cut!

Hermit: When Rook is alone with their thoughts, what do they think about? Is solitude a blessing or a curse for them?

Lanas is quite the introvert, and tends to do best when he has lots of time to himself for introspection. He daydreams a lot, and mulls over conflicts/problems he needs to solve (sometimes obsessively). Hes very inventive and is fascinated by enchantments/complex magic, so if theres nothing to worry over hes thinking about nerdy stuff. Solitude in moderation is a blessing. That said, he's also prone to feeling lonely, so having people that care about him around to force him to socialize every now and then is imperative. Give him his space, but pop in and irritate him sometimes to remind him hes loved lol.

Temperance: What does Rook do to deal with the stress of their situation?

Aforementioned alone time for introspection is how Lanas best handles stress. Giving him space to decompress and think things over is better for him than reassurance in most cases. If he's stressed enough to ask for help from those he trusts, talking things over won't do anything but upset him more. Distracting him until hes relaxed enough to go be alone with his thoughts for a bit is the best course of action. Suli's default "calm Lanas down" plan is giving him chocolate, sex, and drawing him a nice bath with candles and fancy herbs and salts and whatever else he wants. It turns into the "doing whatever my hot witch wife wants" meme every time. Whats the fun in marrying a mage if you dont indulge their funky rituals every now and then to help them relax?

Devil: What type of demon is most likely to target Rook? Why?

Despair demon! Lanas is depressed. By the time Veilguard happens, hes got it pretty well under control, but he had a rough go of it when he was younger. Spending your teens and 20s passively suicidal doesn't resolve itself with no lasting effects. Fear hes had mastered since childhood, you can't scare a man that thinks things cant get worse. Despair is the opposite. It tells him he'll never get better, that the world won't change, and that hes doomed to repeat the cycles hes trying to break. Nothing to lose vs wasted potential. If you'd thrown him in the regret prison a decade earlier, he wouldn't have escaped. Hes had a long time to heal and learn better coping skills. He has hope now (and the inquisitor) to see him through it.

Sun: What is Rook passionate about? How do they fuel that passion?

Lanas is most passionate about learning and teaching. This one was hard to answer but most of the other more specific thoughts I had can be boiled down to the pursuit of knowledge (magical research, reading, adventure) and the distribution of it (loves infodumping about his interests, journaling/archiving while he was with the inquisition, mentoring apprentice mages while staying with clan Lavellan between Inquisition and Veilguard. He'd tell you he doesn't have favorite apprentices but thats a lie. Suli's nephew, Fennas, is a teachers pet and definitely the favorite (hes 19 at the start of Veilguard and ive got an au where i made him my rook instead. If i were more of a fan of the teenager saves the world trope id make that my canon worldstate but im gonna let Fen be a kid and have his 40 something mentor do it instead))

Fun fact: the first draft of Wolf in Sheep's Clothing I was doing was actually a crossover with Ready or Not and Big Gold Brick. so full disclosure gelert was originally made as a joke. i'm on a big criminal minds kick and as much as i love spencer reid he is. a pig. and so - jokingly! - i said 'damn he needs a queer gnc anarchopunk love interest to fix him'. and then i made one and got way too attached to it and now they have a whole story arc that i really want to write one day. look everyone can say oc x canon is cringe but like ITS FUNNNN OMGGGG HAVE SOME WHIMSY IN YOUR LIFE ITS FUNNNNNNNNN-

but anywhore here's gelert's story separate from the oc x canon bs

so! gelert foulkes - i will make all my characters welsh so help me GOD - is a community organizer living in the rust belt, dedicated to grassroots activism and helping the more 'left behind' members of the community, such as creating AA and NA groups, affordable housing initiatives, accessible job training, etc etc etc. however, they are also massively indebted to a gang who controls most of their town, which they pay off through collecting blackmail, which is kind of not want you want to hear about the guy who runs your alcoholics anonymous group.

growing up, gelert’s father was a highly respected and highly abusive cop who had a lot of control over gel and their mother. he committed egregious police brutality, protected his friends and overlooked the marginalized members of their community, and the more gelert tried to rebel against him, the more he tried to control them. as gel grew up and began embracing their queerness, things got worse; they planned to skip town with their best friend, whom they had a sort of bonnie-and-clyde, ‘i brought you my bullets you brought me your love’ style relationship with (at least from their perspective. really they were just two marginalized kids who'd shoplift and get high together and loved each other so much because they were the only two people in the world like them). upon discovering gelert’s plans, their father broke into their friend’s house on a flimsy drug charge, shot them without reason, and was never charged for the crime. if anything, he was treated like a hero. this incites gelert to find and orchestrate a deal with this gang (as abusive a cop as gelert’s father was, he was never technically ‘dirty’, so having gelert’s father removed and his position replaced with someone under this gang’s control would grant them more power over local police). they stalked gelert’s father, recording his abuse, adultery, his weaponization of his power, his brutality, etc, and sent a copy of this compiled evidence to their father with the threat that it’d soon go public, thus causing him to shoot himself in front of gelert. his partner has always believed that gelert was somehow responsible, but there was obviously no way of proving that.

gelert is now under this gang’s thumb – they provide them with legal protection, and gelert helps to provide them with blackmail. they can’t leave town – but they also don’t want to anymore. they’re the reason their friend died. they could’ve done something, anything to help before it reached that point, but they didn’t. so gelert dedicates their whole life to being someone who does something – at first it’s just helping set up support groups and protests and community events, but as time goes on and gelert becomes more influential, they create their own community support network for the more marginalized residents. however, this makes them even more of an asset to this gang. gelert tries not to target anyone from their community group – they’re mostly set on people like police officers, business owners, local government officials, stuff like that, whom they uncover blackmail through stalking, provoking them into violent or illegal activity, or soliciting sex in order to get into their homes (what does it matter if gelert gets hurt? what does it matter if they get used? it’s for the greater good. there are so many people who have suffered more than gelert has. how dare they be unmarred). but of course that raises questions of morality and 'when do you decide when a person is 'allowed' to have their life ruined? what gives you the right to make that choice?'. because i realized i have morality ocd and by god i need an outlet.

gelert’s affiliations with this gang is not known to anyone yet, but it will come up as gelert is a person of interest in a string of murders against various addicts and homeless individuals. of course theres nothing really tying gelert to the crimes beyond the fact that all the victims were involved in some way with the community group, and that whoever committed the murders had intimate knowledge of the victims, including their vices, deepest shames, past wrongs etc etc, meaning that it is highly likely gelert either knows who the killer is, knows the killer without knowing that they ARE the killer, or is the killer themself. as the investigation continues it is revealed that not only is gelert involved with this shady gang, but that one of their targets actually used to attend this community group as a child; they were a prodigy story, gaining a scholarship to a good school and eventually becoming a lawyer... who defended dirty cops, hence why gelert didnt seem to feel bad digging up old dirt on him.

thats the most ive gotten so far. the idea is that gelert is so desperate for redemption due to their survivor’s guilt over their friends death that they've just. remained stuck in the town they wanted to leave so desperately, and has thus created this ouroboros cycle of doing irreparable harm and trying to make up for it by trying to help others. i think the conclusion (or like. the Act One conclusion) is that in an attempt to kill the real killer (their fathers partner on the force) they destroy the community hub and fake their death to enter witness protection to escape from the gang, however they do escape witness protection in order to see if the community group is still doing ok without them. and yeah its fine! its essentially self-sufficient at this point! they found a new building to host meetings, theyre organising job training and accessible housing and local childcare, because there was nothing more to do with this group. it was self-sufficient for so long but gelert kept insisting that they HAD to stay alive and they HAD to stay in this town because how else would these people get help?? and it just hammers home that like,,, yeah maybe gelerts intentions were in the right place but the reason the foundations of this group were rotten from the start wasnt because of the gang money or anything, it was because gelert was using this group to absolve themself of their guilt, which was never going to happen. and in letting it go they can finally let go of their survivors guilt.

look i know this is melodramatic and dumb as hell but i have had so much fun with this oc. embrace cringe into your life and joy and whimsy will follow. etc.

Thank you! It's a little bit of blasphemy from an ex-Catholic.

So, I like my vampire stories. I like how far they go back into various myths and legends and folklores, I like the different takes on them, I like it all.

Beg My Forgiveness is the idea that the first vampire is Lazarus, after the miracle of Jesus raising him from the dead didn't quiiiite work.

Because sure, God is infallible and all-powerful etc etc... but Jesus was still just a man, and humans are not infallible, no matter how much divine power they have.

Did you know that with the story of Lazarus, Jesus specifically waited until he knew Lazarus was dead, specifically waiting until the traditional period of waiting with the body (iirc it was 3 days) was over and the body was prepared, before he even started the return journey back? He deliberately waited until there would be absolutely no doubt at all that Lazarus had died, before he went to go and bring him back. This man was supposedly his friend.

What would that do to someone? To know that your friend had let you die just to... what? To prove himself, when he's already done that a thousand times over? How much pain was Lazarus in when he died?

How much pain would he be in, knowing that his death was down to one person's choice?

TL;DR: it's mostly just me finding new ways to spite my Catholic upbringing. Or work through the religious trauma.

i was just curious i came to watch practice and i wasn't paying attention 😭😭😭😭 he was naturally very apologetic and helped me clean up my bloody nose HAHA

we were also coincidentally in the same class that year, and we have a lot in common, so we became very close very quickly. after that though, it took us a longggg time to get our act together and finally get together ahdhajsj

so while i wouldn't call it love at first sight, i really like the notion of 恋の予感 (koi no yokan), which is a japanese concept with no exact translation but is closest to something like "love's premonition" - the feeling when you meet someone and somehow you know you'll eventually and inevitably end up loving them
