I like sladick as a ship but every time I see it written with Slade as a good person I’m just like 😐

I don’t know if you were trying to come of this way, but you sound patronizing and a little arrogant.
Non-canon shipping isn’t ooc. There is only one confirmed couple, technically two. Drastically changing a character’s canon personality can be OOC, but in regards to shipping, these pairs are generally related to their canon personalities and actions. Dokja clearly finds Joonghyuk attractive and the latter treats the former differently than his own wife.
I don’t where you read that I’m deconstructing gender roles. I never said that. I’m also firmly in the realm of fiction where things can be reconstructed in places they “can’t” in real life. Who said I’m applying this to real life? In real life, a lot of same-sex couples switch positions. MLM, by virtue of being queer, aren’t immune from heteronormative bias. I’d try google. There’s actual scientific articles on the topic.
Notice how I said heteronormativity not heterosexual? There’s a lot to be discussed in the fetishzation of mlm with genres like yaoi. I’m not against “fujioshis” but there are some justified points from where the dislike arises. Heteronormativity isn’t something secluded to heterosexual couples. We all live in a society. Women can be misogynistic and gay people can be homophobic. There’s a reason why in some historical situations the person who was penetrated was punished more severely.
I don’t know what world you live in where there aren’t lgbt people who see top/bottom as positions of dominance or submission. There are, I promise you. It’s a thing people are trying to tackle and often include in the concept of heteronormativity. Eurocentric femininity isn’t even something I mentioned because uh…do you think other cultures’ concept of femininity involves women being taller, stronger, more dominant, etc? Very few do, even before colonialism.
Joongdok shippers are part of a whole issue. This isn’t exclusive to you, it’s a trend in fandom spaces in general. If in numerous fandoms, the smaller, weaker i.e. subconsciously more “feminine” man is always the bottom, always the sub, always the omega who gets impregnated, always the one put in a dress, always referred to as the “wife” there’s something to be analyzed there. We all do things subconsciously. We can perpetuate or recreate things without the intention of doing so. If you think femininity is a concept that doesn’t affect men, you need to go outside. Emasculation is an actual word, even though I detest it. There are lgbt couples that feel compelled to adhere to heteronormative standards. I think it’s fair to say the stereotype of twinks or more “feminine” MLM isn’t one of topping, even in the queer community.
I never said bottoming is weak, but we can acknowledge that there’s a reason why so many people have bottom and sub together in a fic instead of power bottom and service top. These things alone aren’t an issue, it’s all of these in conjunction that raises my side-eye.
Well the mpreg was more of a fun little throwaway, considering I literally said I’m peddling genderqueer YJH, but damn, I wonder why Jihye thought Dokja, and not Joonghyuk, was the one who carried a child? Fuck, I wonder why?
I know why I feel off about Joongdok. This ship doesn’t exist in a vacuum, and I’m aggregating my decade long fandom experience as a whole. I’m curious as to why people feel so strongly about certain positions. I don’t know, if the thought of Dokja taking penetrating Joonghyuk freaks or weirds you out, maybe determine why? That’s what the post is for.
I ship Sladick, and when reading smut, I prefer Dick as a bottom or sub. I’m not viscerally against them switching, I just prefer that and am neutral to the reverse. That pair is like the typical one I’ve discussed, but I’m not uncomfortable with them switching or make a point to put that on an introduction or my Twitter bio.
I truly recommend going into tags like top/bottom discourse, anti or regular fujioshi, anti omegaverse and reading articles about heteronormativity in lgbt spaces. It seems like you got a little hurt reading my post and took it personally. I know how gender roles work. It just seems that you’re incapable of handling a topic with nuance. I make a rule to not talk to people who don’t read what I write and make assumptions. This has helped solidly my feelings on the subject, so thanks.
Have a nice day.
P.S.
Lmao, imagine thinking this is horseshoe theory. Fiction is made to be analyzed. I could make a similar post discussing how authors often make their evil fantasy races darker and how that links to subconscious racism. Life is complex and so is fiction. It’s not progressive to acknowledge this concept.
Edit: wait let me me rephrase something in case someone else reads this. I like Joongdok and Dokjoong. It’s all the same to me, I just don’t like the obsession with positions.
I’m quite confused about fandom’s tendency toward non-reversible positions in mlm ships. Why? I can understand a preference, but a lot of people are like physically repulsed by the thought of their ship switching.
Maybe I’m letting the ORV fandom be a stat instead of an outlier, but people are very weird about it. I’m generally a switch with all my ships, so that could be why I’m lost. I was looking through the ORVintro hashtag and someone literally wrote “ew” about Dokjoong/Joongdok being reversible. I’ve dubbed myself CEO of tumblr’s Dokjoong tag, but a lot of that fervor is because the fandom sees Dokja as this “uwu twink” that gets railed, which feels a little ooc to me.
I guess something about it feels heteronormative. The smaller man is dubbed more fem, submissive, and is always the bottom. The bigger guy is more masc, aggressive, dominant and tops. It’s hard not to see a reconstruction of binary gender roles. I instinctively have an issue with this because I’m a very small cis woman. Femininity = weakness and submission is a concept that makes my skin crawl. When I was into the MCU, I had to dig to find Tony ship fics where he wasn’t made more effeminate than canon and wasn’t the bottom or sub.
I know if this gets some traction someone will say that I’m policing ships. I’m literally discussing my own confusion and perceptions. It just weirds me out a little and that makes me want to ask about this to challenge my view. I could just have a weird bias that needs to be worked out. Yes, I am being the change I wish to see but it’s a lonely battle.
Also, because I don’t want to make this a separate post, If we’re doing mpr*g with our resident idiots, wouldn’t that make more sense with Joonghyuk? He literally becomes a woman in canon. Yes, I am peddling non-binary, genderfluid Joonghyuk.
