I've just heard and I'm so sad. What a beautiful man, a wonderful actor, and brilliant mind, a kind and generous soul Donald Sutherland was. I miss him immensely already.

He was a man with a strong presence, a brilliance in his craft, and truly a great Canadian artist and he will be deeply missed. My thoughts go out to Kiefer and the entire Sutherland family, as well as all Canadians who are no doubt saddened to learn as I am right now."

As his son Kiefer wrote, his life was "well-lived", but I am nonetheless very sad, very sad indeed, this warm, brilliant, funny, clever man has died.
