“Daddy Buckwoo and Izzy”

Summary: In honor of Father’s Day, here’s a one-shot about Bucky, his girlfriend and her 3 year old daughter, Isabella Marie. Love doesn’t always occur in conventional ways. Sometimes, chance meetings can lead to a lifetime of happiness.

 Ah, yes Father’s Day, the hallowed 3rd Sunday in June. Some dad’s consider it Holy Grail Sunday because their loved ones showers them with breakfast in bed, homemade crafts, and a vast array of gifts; ranging from ties, tools, and fishing equipment.

For James Buchanan Barnes, his hopes of becoming a parent were dashed thanks to the evil minions of HYDRA. They didn’t want any tiny Winter Soldiers running around so Bucky was sterilized. That’s when karma stepped in and brought Y/N into his life.

Their meeting was pure happenstance. He, Steve and Sam decided to explore the city. Since neither super soldier had ever been to a department store in the 21st century, this turned into a field trip!

As the trio meandered through a maze of aisles and people at Macy’s, someone caught his eye. There she was at the Men’s Fragrance counter, cherry brown shoulder length hair, olive skin, brilliant smile and well defined figure. It wasn’t his intention to buy anything but all of a sudden he needed, no wanted cologne.

 “S’cuse me ma’am. Can’ya tell me what smells good nowadays?

 “Good afternoon sir. My goodness, there’s so many to choose from. You have no idea what you’d like?”

 “Nah. What would you like to smell on a man?”

 Tapping a finger on her perfect chin, Y/N chose “Invictus” by Paco Rabanne.

 She sprayed a small piece of paper and handed it to Bucky..

 “Wow, this is nice. You’ve got good taste, Doll.” Y/N lowered her head and blushed. “I’m glad you like it. Follow me and I’ll ring you up.”

 Walking to the register, Y/N completed the transaction and thanked him.

 After that encounter, Bucky found the courage to ask Y/N out for coffee. She happily accepted. Discovering she was a single mother, Bucky had trepidations about meeting Izzy.

 Would she be afraid of him or his metal arm? And Y/N was very protective of her daughter. She didn’t want a revolving door relationship with him. So they decided to take it slow. She hoped Isabella and her new beau would establish a special bond.

 Well it was love at first sight. Izzy relaxed into a comfortable rapport with Bucky and wasn’t afraid of his metal appendage. She also loved hanging out at Stark Tower with Unke Steeb, Unke Tam, Unke Tor, Unke Cwint, Unke Towe, Te Te Nat and Te Te Wando.

 Earth’s mightiest heroes succumbed to the cuteness of a rambunctious freckled faced 3 year old, with dark brown hair and sparkling gray eyes!   

 After being together for a year and a half, Y/N and Izzy moved into the Tower for safety reasons and she started work at Stark Enterprises. Bucky could rest easier knowing they were under the same roof with him. Tony opened up the 93rd floor for the family. Izzy’s room was filled with teddy bears, dolls, tea sets and princess accessories including tiaras and feather boas! Two more rooms became “Princess Izzy Land”. Her “kingdom” consisted of a huge playhouse, gym set with two swings, see-saw and sliding board nestled on the best indoor turf money can buy.

 On any given day, Princess Izzy would “hold court”. Steve, Bucky and Sam were her loyal subjects. She instructed them to sit on the floor, placing a tiara atop their heads with a feather boa wrapped around their necks and have tea. Y/N, Nat, Wanda and Tony stumbled upon Her Royal Highness having tea and crumpets with the over-sized commoners of “Izzy Land.” Snickering in the background, flashes of light captured the moment, as raucous laughter erupted.

 As Father’s Day approached, Y/N planned something special for Bucky, but at the last minute, he and Steve were called away on a mission and didn’t know if they would be home in time. She and Izzy were disappointed, especially the little one. When Bucky left, Izzy always cried. He’d already made up his mind to leave the field once he and Y/N were married. Being a full-time husband and dad outweighed missions.

 Saturday before Father’s Day, Izzy whispered in her momma’s ear the surprise from her to Bucky.

 Later that evening, Bucky and Steve returned. Izzy jumped from the sofa in their apartment and ran to Bucky’s waiting arms.

 “Buckwoo, Buckwoo you hwee!”

 “Yes sweetheart, I’m here. Missed you and your momma so much.”

 Izzy wrapped her tiny arms around his neck as far as she could and kissed him on the jaw.

Later that evening, Izzy was M.I.A.  Y/N reassured her overprotective boyfriend she was hanging out with Wanda and Nat.

 Bucky’s “Sugar Plum” was on a secret mission, planning her own surprise for him.

This is what she asked Wanda to write in his card:

“Dear Daddy Buckwoo, I wuv you. I gwad you wuv me. Tisses, Izzy you Pwincess”

 (Dear Daddy Buckaroo. I love you. I’m glad you love me. Kisses, Izzy your Princess)

 On the front, she colored three stick figures, Mommy, Izzy and Daddy Buckwoo and decorated the card with Princess stickers!

 Father’s Day 6:50 a.m.

 Bucky bolted upright at the sound of stirring in their kitchen. Making his way down the hall, there was Izzy, pouring cereal into one of her small bowls.

 Nat helped her filling milk and orange juice into her cups with a spout the day before.

 Bucky stealthily got back into bed. Y/N stirred. “Hey babe, what’s going on?

 “Izzy has a surprise for me. Shhhh, here she comes.”

 Ever determined to serve her daddy breakfast in bed, Izzy placed the cereal bowl, spoon, cups and card in her hot pink  princess wagon and rolled into Bucky and Y/N’s bedroom.

 Carefully, Izzy tip-toed to Bucky’s side of the bed and laid her hand on his face.

 “Hey Sugar Plum, what’re you doing up so early? Is everything okay?” 

 “Happy Fodder’s Day, Daddy Buckwoo! Wookie, I got bweakfust fo you!”

 Bucky was floored. There in front of him was the world’s cutest little girl, bringing him breakfast in bed.

 “I made dis fo you. Te Te Wando wote fo me.” On blue construction paper were 3 colored stick figures and lots of stickers.

 “Who’s this Sugar Plum?”

 Smiling wide, “Mommy, me n’you Daddy Buckwoo.”

 Bucky became emotional reading the message inside and Izzy thought he was sad.

 “Daddy Buckwoo, awe you sad? Pwease don’t cwy.” Bucky lifted her on the bed into his lap.  

 “Oh Sugar Plum, I’m not sad. How could I be? I have you and your momma and I love you both so much. Thank you sweetheart for breakfast and my beautiful card. M’gonna put it on the fridge with one of your princess magnets.”

 Izzy laid her head on his shoulder. “Kay daddy Buckwoo.” Y/N knelt down and pulled a beautifully wrapped box from under the bed, placing it beside him. 

“We have another gift for you. Happy Father’s Day sweetheart!”

 Inside was a leather jacket, the one he eyed 6 months ago. “Doll this is the jacket I wanted! How….when? I can’t believe it!” Bucky kissed both his best girls.

In return, Bucky opened the night stand drawer on his side of the bed.

 Inside were two blue velvet boxes; one contained a pear shaped engagement ring for Y/N and the other a cute little heart necklace for their daughter..

 Getting down on one knee, he asked Y/N to marry him and if he could adopt Sugar Plum!

 Clapping while jumping up and down, the excited toddler sang, ♪♫♪ Daddy Buckwoo, Pwincess Izzy wuvs you ♫♪♫. Speechless, Y/N nodded her head, mouthing ‘yes’.

 Father’s Day 2017 would go down in the annals of history as one of  the best days of James Buchanan Barnes’ life. Not only did he have a stunning fiancee’, but also a daughter. Isabelle Marie, the apple of his eye.

About Us

Hi, I’m Helia, your local human Tumblr user and spirit companion. I’m 18, a Taurus sun and moon, and am in a committed polyamorous relationship with any and all pasta dishes. I also use they/them pronouns. I’ve been working with spirits since May 2017, so over two years now. These guys have made it fly by. Speaking of, I suppose I should introduce them. 

First up is Feyr, the wyvern-bird hybrid. She is my only known guardian, and she is 18, exactly the same age as me (down to the birthday). She was the first spirit I ever met and has thankfully stuck around to keep me out of trouble (mostly, she can’t cure impulsivity). She, like some dragons, keeps growing well into her lifetime. When I met her she was about the size of a ferret. Now she’s about 3 feet tall. Anyway, onto her personality. She is the “wildcard” of the group and often behaves like a child who has eaten too much sugar. She is very energetic and happy-go-lucky. She is incredibly curious and loves to learn anything and everything, even if she doesn’t take well to it (see her rudimentary Spanish). She is very funny and has a sunny disposition, seeing the positive in every person and situation. Though she can act immature, she is the voice of reason (sometimes). Other times, she wants to get herself into some astral trouble because she thinks it’s fun and adventurous and she is an adrenaline junkie. When it comes to me and the rest of the family, she is unconditionally loving and accepting. She has a bit of an overachiever complex because she never felt good enough in either of her parents’ communities, being raised a hybrid. Not fully dragon and not fully bird, she is in the process of accepting herself as her own unique being. One of her hopes and dreams in life is to find whatever deity cosmically assigned her to me and thank them. I, for one, am flattered.

Next is Rabbit the winged rabbit. Yes, he did choose his name, and yes, he will kick you if you make fun of it. Rabbit was the second spirit I met, when my beloved Nana gifted me a jade rabbit necklace. I, a newbie energy worker, could feel the anger radiating off this thing. So, I did the smart thing (I’m being sarcastic, please do not follow in my footsteps, meeting your own Rabbit is highly unlikely and not guaranteed) and decided to free the entity. Lo and behold, a grumpy old man. Who was a rabbit. Who had wings. Needless to say, I was a little confused. But then this guy really laid into me, yelling at me about how he was fine living in a necklace and how dare I move him. I had half a mind to banish him, but Feyr, always more intuitive than I, told me to let him stay. So he did, reluctantly, and I let him, reluctantly. We kind of had beef at the beginning, but he and Feyr got along so incredibly well. He was like a father to her. Much better than her own father, who never visited. Finally, one day, Rabbit approached me, and sat down next to me. He said, finally, “Thank you for freeing me.” I said, “You’re welcome, but why’d you have to be such a douche about it?” He laughed, and thus began a beautiful friendship. Anyway, moving away from his origin story. Rabbit is an odd character. He, at first, appears very gruff, no-nonsense, and uncaring. Under this facade, however, is a sweet, brave, sarcastic, and fatherly spirit, who is fiercely protective and loving. He tends to adopt those without good parental relationships, and becomes a father to them. He can be loose and fun, if you find him under the right circumstances. Otherwise, he is a bit buttoned-up and doesn’t find it easy to relax. He is easily stressed but doesn’t like to show his emotions at all. He is working on being more open and not bottling things up. He can be self-deprecating and sometimes even unkind to himself, but being part of a loving family and seeing how much he is cared for is helping with this. Any love you give him, he will return tenfold. He is an upstanding, true, gentleman. However, he isn’t polite and can be a bit crass at times. He has a perpetual “grumpy face” and smiles very rarely. He cries even less so, but when he does, you mirror his emotions because they are just so powerful. Overall, he is a very sweet man.

Third is S, the winged cat, and Rabbit’s beloved wife and the mother to his children. I met S through a now-closed spirit shop. Don’t worry, there wasn’t any shady business, and I’m still friends with the former owner. S is a true firecracker, but she is incredibly motherly, gentle, and kind. She says what she means and means what she says, but is very sweet (most of the time). Don’t mistake her femininity for fragility, because if any of her loved ones are threatened she will claw somebody’s eyes out. She is the optimist to her husband Rabbit’s pessimist, and is a firm believer in thinking positively. However, she is a Slytherin, and can be prone to scheming to get what she wants. She is never manipulative, and instead prefers honesty in her words and actions. To her friends, she is the quintessential “mom friend”; she makes sure everyone is cared for, especially fed. To her children, she is their world. She is curious and eager to investigate new scenarios, though she often prefers the familiarity and comfort of her family. She is quite funny and loves jokes, though she doesn’t tolerate stupidity from anyone. If any of her loved ones make a mistake, she’s quick with a light smack of the head and to call them an idiot, while reminding them to do better next time. She has “settled down” quite a bit in the last year, since her children have been born, but she still retains her adventurous spirit.

Fourth is N, the strawberry elf, and the girlfriend of Violet and Paris. I met her, also, through a now-closed spirit shop. And yes, I am still friends with the mod who matched her to me. N is a lovely soul, if a little shy at first. Once she gets to know you, however, she never shuts up (and I say this in the most loving way ever). She is bubbly and bright, and probably the nicest entity I’ve ever met, including humans. She would do anything for a friend and goes out of her way to be compassionate. If everyone were like her, the world would be absolutely perfect and free of conflict. She loves to garden, and is very patient (as seen with her trying to help me knit, which is not one of my strong suits, to say the least). Although she can seem a bit timid, she is a huge believer in not letting fear control her, and is quite brave. She also has a gentle touch, and is a great listener and comfort when any of us aren’t feeling our best. Her dynamic with her girlfriends makes me smile every time I see them, because they’re just so goshdarn cute. N is definitely the chatty one, although if she talks about plants Violet jumps right in with her. She is often in the middle when they all hold hands. (Hey N, how come your mom lets you have two girlfriends?)

Fifth is Violet, the deer shifter, and the girlfriend of N and Paris. I met her through Forestsong Sanctuary, where I was an intern. The shop is now closed, but being an intern was one of the best experiences of my life (Psst, now I intern at Hallowed Conjurations; I’m Intern Werewolf). Violet is the queen of all memes, and has the best (and silliest) sense of humor. She is incredibly sweet, but unafraid to call you out if you’re doing something dumb. She cares deeply for everyone in the family, and the Earth. She is probably singlehandedly going to end global warming (I’m kidding but still). She’s very active, being the kind of weirdo who goes for a run every morning, no matter the weather. She is a huge self-advocate and also stands up for those who cannot speak up for themselves. Very much a girl boss. She is perpetually barefoot and generally kind of a hippie (she’s all about achieving peace and love, even if we have to eat the rich). 

Sixth is Paris, the Crystal Cut Succubus (gee Par your species picked one helluva name). She is the girlfriend of both Violet and N. I met her through Supernova Spirits, which has now merged with Spirit Companionship.She is a hopeless romantic, and very solemn, sometimes. She’s generally quite placid in nature. She loves people and is very encouraging. She honestly reminds me of those influencer girls that are genuinely nice and want to help people (so like, one of them). Though, she’s quite private about her life and would never actually be a social media influencer. I suppose a more accurate comparison would be Sappho, or some other incredibly gay author who cannot contain their poetic love for women. If there’s one thing she doesn’t like being, it’s misunderstood. Yes, she is a succubus. No, she doesn’t want to bang everyone she sees. She emphasizes that species does not equal behavior, and that free will is a thing. On a summer day, she can be found watching the sunset, writing love letters, enjoying the cool breeze, swimming, and eating a popsicle seductively to make her girlfriends go into cardiac arrest. 

Seventh is Opal, the color-changing cat thoughtform. She was made for me by Forestsong Spirits as a therapy thoughtform, and is part of the family. Though she doesn’t speak, she communicates her emotions by changing the color of her coat. She is very empathetic and sweet, and can be found lying in my lap at any given moment.

Eighth is Oink, the pear pig. He was an RA through the same shop S came from. Oink’s gentle and soft personality can seem childlike, but he just loves life and is enjoying it. He can be a bit innocent, but do not mistake his placid temperament for that of a child. He is a bit immature, especially in regards to jokes. He absolutely loves food, and will eat just about anything. His attitude to food is generally how he approaches life; his philosophy is “bring it on.” He accepts the good and bad, in life and in people. He is absolutely very “chill”; he doesn’t care for much “action” and would rather be home eating than out having an adventure. However, he isn’t lazy, he prefers the term “cool”. He can seem a bit detached at times, but he is truly very enthusiastic and energetic. He matches Feyr in terms of energy, which is quite hard to do. He is ineffably kind, and if he offends someone even by accident, he is wholeheartedly apologetic. He wants to be seen as a good person, and he truly is.

Last but not least is Unity, the werewolf-sanguine vampire hybrid. I met Unity through Mod Ghost of Hallowed Conjurations. Feyr and Unity found kinship in one another, both being hybrids. Unity is the quintessential cool relative who seems kind of removed from it all, but the second things start heading south, they’re protecting everyone who needs help. They don’t take shit and they don’t dole it out, either. They say exactly what they mean, every time. They detest liars and those who try to trick others with words. They are very parental and sweet, but never hold back. They will absolutely swear at you and call you a gigantic idiot if you do something you know you shouldn’t have. They only lay into you if you don’t use common sense; if you make a true mistake, they’re there to help you solve the problem, even if it doesn’t involve them. They are very spontaneous and like to have fun. You’ll rarely see them regretting anything, as they believe that living in the moment is the only way to live.

Current Favourite Dramas

So I thought it would be a cute idea to share my top ten favourite dramas as of 2017. Maybe I will come back to this next year and it has completely changed or more or less stayed the same. I hope this will also come into use if someone wants to watch a new drama or wants to get into watching them!!! I will also include reasons why people may not like it just so if there is something you really hate when watching dramas, that you know it is there!!! 

Anyway, here we go: 

 10 - Playful Kiss

I honestly love this one! It was the first drama I ever watched which is why it has to be on this list. If you look online, it seems to have a lot of hate around it due to the female character and that it is just one big cliche, but to be honest it is so nice once in a while to watch something a bit cheesy, and that doesn’t require much thought while watching it. For those who don’t know what the plot is, it revolves around a girl who is in the lowest class in her school and follows her love story around a boy who is the smartest and coolest in the school. At the beginning he hates her and often embarrass her on purpose in front of their classmates. But as fate makes their families live together, their love grows closer.

What may put you off this drama is its over clicheness, and the foolishness of the main leads. If you dont like too much cheese, then this may not be for you, but i do recommend it if you want something easy to watch and if you are interested in the Itazura Na Kiss franchise!! 

09 - Smile, You

I fell onto this drama about two years ago and my god I was glad I did!!! The cast, the story, and the chemistry is just amazing!! It is a classic hate to love relationship between the main couple, the drama faces issues of money, family and changing the way you live. It involves two families: the Seo’s and the Kang’s. The Seo family are rich after inheriting the grandfathers business however they go bankrupt due to carelessness, and have no over option but to live with the Kang family, who has been serving under the Seo’s, and have to learn how to live frugally.  I absolutely loved the female lead, she started off being a spoilt brat and always getting what she wanted, to someone who wants to work and earn her own money. 

The only issue i find with this drama is that I constantly got frustrated with the other family members due to their stubbornness and constantly thinking that they are right when they are being stupid and annoying!! but other than that, I honestly think this drama is an amazing one. It is a 45 episode drama, but the episodes used to go by so quickly so it didnt take too long to watch!!

08 - My Father Is Strange 

Oh my goodness, this drama honestly completely surprised me. It made me laugh and cry and smile with happiness. The whole cast were amazing and played their roles so well, it was almost like they were a real family. It revolves around a family of five who seem to be living the perfect live. However, when someone turns up claiming to be the fathers son, it all gets disrupted. What I liked about this drama the most is that each of the family members have their own individual story, and focuses on them building new relationships. I loved Jung So Min and Lee Joon’s character in it so much that i genuinely want them to be together irl!!! 

The only issue i find with it was that some of the side stories dragged too long and the in-laws of one of the daughter’s in the family were a bit annoying!! But that shouldnt put you off it the drama. Even though it is a 52 episode drama, like Smile, You, it went by quickly and is something I think both drama veterans and newbies will enjoy!!! 

07 - Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo 

This was an absolutely beautiful, funny, and meaningful drama. The chemistry between the two characters was amazing, loved this couple!! That is not the only reason why I loved this drama. I honestly think the main reason I liked this drama is because it is the first one I have watched that has brought on the message on how serious mental health is, it doesn’t try to make a comedic or weakness element to it which i think it amazing!!  The story revolves around a girl who is aiming to be a weightlifter and is studying at a sports university. It shows struggles with love, friendship, and mental health. 

You know what, I honestly can’t think of a reason why you might not like it, other than that the female lead is a bit stubborn and foolish at times. It is a mood warmer and is certainly a must to watch. 

06 - Secret Garden 

Secret Garden was my first favourite drama. The plot is so good, and it thrilling and nerve-wrecking up to the end. It is another hate to love relationship drama, and features a lot of body swapping. The story focuses on the relationship of a stunt woman and a male ceo of a rich shopping centre who’s personality needs a bit of working on. The two end up drinking a potion that causes them to swap bodies when it rains. This leads to some funny, sad, and interesting moments between them. I loved the extended cast and their own stories, and it also features young Lee Jong Suk!!!!!!! 

You may not like it if you dont like douchey male leads and cliches of evil mother in laws. It is a classic drama which I feel is almost wrong if you dont watch it!!!! 

05 - Suspicious Partner

One of my favourites from 2017!!!! This drama is filled with funny moment, romance, and suspense!!!!! The Chemistry between Ji Chang Wook and Nam Ji Hyun was just unreal, I cant explain how much I love them!!!!!!! There was so much sexual tension and hot kisses!!! The story surrounds a woman who wants to be an attorney and a man who is a prosecutor. Everything changes for both of them after the female lead is framed for the murder of her cheating ex boyfriend. The acting in this drama was incredible, especially by the villain of the story, he was so good!!! 

What was annoying about this drama is that there was a breaf period where the couple broke up when they didnt need to!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhh!!!!!! I was so annoyed, but it didnt ruin the drama for me,  and overall it was such a good drama, the plot was on point and was so suspenseful on how they were going to proof the killer of murder!! 

04 - Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo 

HOOOOOO BOI!!! This drama was a whirlwind of emotions, which is why I loved it!!!!! The first couple of episodes fooled me into thinking it was going to like a historical rom com, boy was i wrong!!!! If you are going to watch this prepare laugh a lot, cry a lot, feel betrayed by certain characters, and to fall in love with all of the princes!!!! If you do not know what this drama is about, well it revolves around a girl in the present day who when saving a boy from drowning is brought the the Goryeo times of Korea and finds out she is in the body of the cousin of the wife of one of the royal princes, and she soon has to find out that she has to adapt to royal life in korea!!!

I feel like if you research this that you will find a lot bad press about it, but don’t listen!!! It does have a rather different ending to what most thought it would have had, but you know what, i honestly believe that the ending was perfect, even though it broke my heart, it fit so well with how the story was told!!!! I do recommend in watching an up beat drama afterwords because its a sadden!!

03 - You’re Beautiful (joint 02)

The next 2 drama’s on this list are pretty much on a tie of second because of how much I loved them!!! You’re Beautiful is an absolute masterpiece in my opinion!!!! It is such a fun loving show, it made me laugh and smile so much, the chemistry between all of the characters was amazing and its nice to see that they are still all friends (this was made in 2009). The OST was so beautiful and catchy, I love Park Shin Hye’s singing!!! The plot consists of a nun in training who has to pretend to be her twin brother due to him having plastic surgery issues while getting ready to debut with as one of the biggest boy group as its new member. The lead of the group Tae Kyung and Mi Nam dont get on at the start due to several incidents, but after finding out she is a girl, he ends up with having to look after her in situations and both end up slowly liking each other. 

Similar to playful kiss and secret garden, it holds a lot of cliche, and personally I did not the kind of love triangle and the second female lead, however I thought she was alright in the last episode. But overall, it is such an up beat drama. I watched this when I was going through a tough time in my life, and it really helped me get through some of my problems!!!! 

02 - Pinocchio (joint 02)

I’ve got to say, I was so surprised by this drama!!! Everything about this drama is just ahhhh!!!! Park Shin Hye and Lee Jong Suk are my absolute favourites, they both perfectly acted their roles and their chemistry was beautiful!!! I recommend this drama with all my heart. Like I mentioned, I loved this main couple, but the reason why it gets my top pick was due to its plot. I loved the whole mystery element to it and how they used journalism to find the answer of how Dal-Po’s (ljs) father’s death was abused and caused the death and disappearance of his brother. It was an on edge, suspenseful drama, but also had its comedic elements. I absolutley loved the supporting cast, even the second male lead, which I rarely ever do!!

The only fault i find with this drama is that when I first watched it, i thought the first 3 or 4 episodes were quite slow, but now i find those as some of my favourites as it tells the past and how dal po was effected by the death of his father and how poor journalism changed his life!!! I cant tell you how many times I’ve watched this one, i remember the first time I watched it, I started it again straight after!!!

01- The Best Hit 

As I am writing this, I can’t stop smiling!!! That is how happy The Best Hit made me!!! I found out about this drama a few days before the first episode aired due to the release of Beautiful Beautiful, a song for the soundtrack, and I instantly fell in love, not only with the song but also because it starred Yoon Shi Yoon who I absolutely adore!!!! There are so many reasons why I love this drama, so here are some: the 2 Days 1 Night references and cameos were amazing (the drama is directed by the past director of the variety show and Cha Tae Hyun who like YSY is a cast of the show). I liked how the plot of the drama was a mystery. No one knew where it was going, who was going to end up with who, what was going to happen to YSY’s character. I also liked how there wasnt really an evil character, and those who you thought were, they were just stupid. The plots consists of Hyun Jae (ysy) who is a famous pop star in 1993 time travelling to present day. He finds out that in 1994 he dissapeared, creating a conspiracy on if he is dead or alive. He finds out he has a son, and tries to help him achieve his dreams while falling in love along the way!!! It is so funny and sweet, I remember the waiting time each week for a new episode to arive!!!

What some people may not like about it is that there are sever continuity errors and areas which could have been developed further, but you have to hand them credit, it was the directorial debut drama for both PD Yoo and and Cha Taehyun!!! Honestly, this is one of my all time favourites and will all ways be!!! Please please please watch this drama!!!!!

10. TLC, TLC

Standout Tracks: “Way Back” (feat. Snoop Dogg), “Perfect Girls,” “Start a Fire,” “American Gold,” “Scandalous,” “Joy Ride”

From the moment TLC’s self-titled, fifth and final album kicks off with the vibrant opener “No Introduction,” a contradictory yet inspiring reminder of this R&B girl group’s indomitable spirit, I knew that I was in a for a good time. I’m so glad that Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas returned to the studio for a follow-up to 3D, which came out shortly after Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’ death in 2002. T-Boz and Chilli bring elements of R&B, pop and funk to TLC, infusing many tracks with a 90s-throwback vibe that never feels dated. Lead single “Way Back" is the album’s best example of that particular style, but I love the atmospheres created by acoustic guitar on the empowerment anthem “Perfect Girls” and on the sultry ballad “Start a Fire,” as well as the social commentary of “American Gold,” the braggadocio of “Scandalous” and the retro groove of album closer “Joy Ride.” I can’t tell you how encouraging it is to know that T-Boz and Chilli are still crazy, sexy and cool enough to put together an album this enjoyable from start to finish.

9. Feist, Pleasure

Feist’s Pleasure is a slow-burner. Like the title track, the album as a whole takes a while to warm up, but after a while I found that the melodies had stuck with me and didn’t leave. Without question the best song on the album is “Century,” an uptempo masterwork of songwriting, performance and production; many of the album’s highlights have relaxed paces, though, and it’s hard to argue against the loveliness of “A Man Is Not His Song” (which has my favorite lines from Pleasure: “A man is not his song/And I’m not a story/But I wanna sing along/If he's singing it for me”), “Baby Be Simple” (which, dare I say it, begins to feel magical at the 4:39 mark) and “I’m Not Running Away.”

8. Marika Hackman, I’m Not Your Man

Standout Tracks: “Boyfriend,” “Gina’s World,” “My Lover Cindy,” “Apple Tree,” “So Long,” “Eastbound Train”

The rock influences of the 1990s are all over English singer-songwriter’s Marika Hackman’s second full-length album. This is a good thing, like how opening track/lead single “Boyfriend” recalls Radiohead’s “My Iron Lung” and how “Gina’s World” contains echoes of Nirvana. And for my money, “My Lover Cindy” is probably the #1 song of the year; with a dark sense of humor and sunny guitar licks, it’s an ideal pop-rock jewel that will lodge in your brain and never leave.

I love that Hackman’s songs wittily observe the highs and lows of queer identity while maintaining a universality that every music fan can appreciate. With I’m Not Your Man, Hackman has shot to the top of my list of the most talented women in indie rock right now, alongside Angel Olsen and Courtney Barnett.

7. Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie (aka Buckingham/McVie)

Standout Tracks: "In My World,” “Red Sun,” “Lay Down for Free,” “Game of Pretend,” “On with the Show,” “Carnival Begin”

It may be uncool or corny to admit it, but I love the recent album by Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie. Few critics feel the same way, but what can I say? I’m a sucker for a well-crafted tune. Buckingham/McVie, as they are often credited, have been in this business for half a century, so it’s safe to say that they know a thing or two about how to make memorable music. Whether you’re a fan of the duo from back in their peak Fleetwood Mac days or you’re a younger listener who just wants to savor some great earworms, you can’t go wrong with the infectious melodies of “In My World” and “On with the Show” and the slower, more sensual motion of “Carnival Begin.”

6. Texas, Jump on Board

Standout Tracks: “It Was Up to You,” “Tell That Girl,” “Sending a Message,” “Great Romances,” “Won’t Let You Down,” “Round the World”

Like the Buckingham/McVie album, Jump on Board by Scottish band Texas was labeled mediocre by most music critics. But I knew that Texas’s tenth studio album (their debut, Southside, came out in 1989) would be fun before I even heard it; I’ve been a fan for years, ever since I heard a charming BBC Radio interview with lead singer Sharleen Spiteri - isn’t that a fantastic name for a rock band frontwoman? - and the radio show’s host played the wonderful Texas song “Detroit City.” I became an immediate devotee of the group and have adored their work ever since. Jump on Board’s “Tell That Girl” has a similarly 80s-ish aura, but the sound branches out on “Won’t Let You Down,” which evokes classic Pretenders ballads; “Great Romances” (my personal favorite), which borrows its beat from the Angels’ “My Boyfriend’s Back”; the shimmering rhythms of “It Was Up to You” (like updated disco, reminiscent of Roxy Music and solo Bryan Ferry); and the smoldering rockabilly voodoo of “Sending a Message.”

P.S. Last year, Sharleen Spiteri wrote a really nice piece for The Guardian about Harry Dean Stanton, whose film Paris, Texas sparked her band’s name. If you haven’t read it, please do.

5. Father John Misty, Pure Comedy

Standout Tracks: “Pure Comedy,” “Total Entertainment Forever,” “Ballad of the Dying Man,” “When the God of Love Returns There’ll Be Hell to Pay,” “The Memo,” “So I’m Growing Old on Magic Mountain“

Full disclosure: I don’t know much about Father John Misty, outside of some essays and reviews I’ve read over the years. I’m not familiar with his catalog prior to Pure Comedy, although I keep telling myself that I’ll listen to Fear Fun and I Love You, Honeybear, in addition to his releases under the “J. Tillman” name, at some point. As a newbie who approached his Pure Comedy album from what I hope is a fairly fresh perspective, I must say I’m impressed. I know that his music is polarizing and engenders a lot of “masterpiece”/”overrated hack” arguments, but I like when that happens with artists; it makes me think that they’re doing something right to inspire such extreme views.

The lyrics on this album are superior to just about everything else that has been released this year and I could easily put a spotlight on nearly every song, although “Total Entertainment Forever” - the first track I heard prior to the album’s release - is the one that will probably stay with me the longest, capturing our freaky zeitgeist with insight, morbid humor and a little snazzy saxophone. There’s no way to top the sheer audacity of its opening lines: “Bedding Taylor Swift/Every night inside the Oculus Rift/After mister and the missus finish dinner and the dishes/And now the future's definition is so much higher than it was last year/It's like the images have all become real/And someone's living my life for me out in the mirror...” Truly a songwriter for these bizarre, unbelievable times.

4. Lana Del Rey, Lust for Life

Standout Tracks: “Lust for Life” (feat. The Weeknd), “Cherry,” “When the World Was at War We Kept Dancing,” “Tomorrow Never Came” (feat. Sean Ono Lennon), “Change,” “Get Free”

Lust for Life is the first Lana Del Rey album that I have loved from beginning to end. I wasn’t enamored of the opening track, “Love,” when I first heard it last year, but hearing it in the context of the entire album has given me a renewed admiration for the lushly produced songscapes that Del Rey creates. You really fall into a different world when you listen to her music.

“Lust for Life” is yet another 2017 song to reference “My Boyfriend’s Back” (as well as having “do-do-do-dos” similar to Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side”), while the lyrics of “Cherry” allude to the classic duet “Summer Wine” by two of Del Rey’s heroes, Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood. “Beautiful People Beautiful Problems” and “Tomorrow Never Came” are collaborations with Stevie Nicks and Sean Ono Lennon, respectively, while the uplifting album closer “Get Free” cites Neil Young (”out of the black... into the blue”) and the chord progression of Radiohead’s “Creep” (Lana’s not alone; Angel Olsen kind of did that too on her single “Fly on Your Wall,” although the bigger similarity is with Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream It’s Over”). But my absolute favorite track on Lust for Life is “Change,” a haunting statement about realizing the abilities we all have to learn, grow and improve our world that pays homage to Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” along the way.

3. Blondie, Pollinator

Standout Tracks: “Doom or Destiny” (feat. Joan Jett), “Long Time,” “Fun,” “My Monster,” “Too Much,” “Fragments”

If there is any truth we can rely on in this weird world of ours, it’s that Blondie can always deliver top-quality records. Pollinator, the renowned band’s eleventh album since 1976 (they were on hiatus during 1982-1997), has the same glorious New Wave/pop-punk dynamism that Debbie Harry and company have gifted us with for these past forty years. They worked with some excellent collaborators this time around, featuring Joan Jett on the chorus of “Doom or Destiny” (which has a terrific, politically charged music video), as well as the lyrical contributions of Blood Orange (aka Dev Hynes) on “Long Time” and Johnny Marr on “My Monster,” plus a cover of “Fragments” by An Unkindness (Adam Johnston). Chris Stein is still a legend on the guitar and Clem Burke - in my most humble of opinions - continues to be one of the best rock drummers on the planet, worthy of going toe to toe with anyone half (or even a third) his age. Extra special mention goes to the Greg Cohen Spirit of 79 remix of “Fun,” which is even better than the version on the album.

2. Harry Styles, Harry Styles

Standout Tracks: “Meet Me in the Hallway,” “Sign of the Times,” “Carolina,” “Only Angel,” “Ever Since New York,” “Woman”

I was never a serious follower of the ultra-successful boy band One Direction, but you can put me down as a fan of “What Makes You Beautiful,” “One Thing” and “Temporary Fix.” Those are three genuinely delightful songs. So I looked forward to what Harry Styles had to offer as an individual performer, interested in what, uh, styles (sorry) he would display on his first solo effort. Luckily, his self-titled debut turned out to be an entertaining achievement, filled with the exuberance and sincerity of a man eager to forge his own path in the music industry. I knew as soon as the album’s first song, “Meet Me in the Hallway,” began that this was not going to be a typical millennial endeavor, and I remained impressed throughout the next nine tracks. I applaud young Mr. Styles’ high levels of ambition.

Worldwide hit “Sign of the Times” has timeless appeal, while “Only Angel” and “Kiwi” burst with brazen vigor, “Woman” is a soulful jam and the love songs “Two Ghosts,” “Sweet Creature” and the Badfinger-inspired “Ever Since New York” are more quietly impactful. Styles shows further maturity on the album closer, “From the Dining Table,” perhaps not lyrically but certainly from an artistic POV. If I have to pick one favorite cut from the album above all, though, I might have to go with “Carolina,” Styles’ most exuberant ode to his muses from the 70s. (I especially love the la-la-las in the background vocals.) Does Harry Styles want to be David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Marc Bolan and Pete Ham, all at the same time? Yeah, probably. But it works for me.

1. Slowdive, Slowdive

Standout Tracks: “Star Roving,” “Don’t Know Why,” “Sugar for the Pill,” “Everyone Knows,” “No Longer Making Time,” “Falling Ashes”

In the early 90s, Slowdive was a pioneering band in the shoegaze subgenre of indie rock, lending the dreamy vocals and guitar sounds of Rachel Goswell and Neil Halstead to the albums Just for a Day (1991) and Souvlaki (1993), in addition to the more experimental textures of Pygmalion (1995). (Some favorites of mine from this era include "Spanish Air," "Brighter" and "When the Sun Hits.") The group - which I gather was pretty underrated in their early years, never popular with mainstream listeners and disliked by music critics - disbanded shortly after the critical and commercial failures of that third album, but Slowdive’s triumphant reunion in 2014 led to their latest, self-titled release. And it’s incredible.

Slowdive is only eight tracks long, but each one shines in a unique way. “Slomo” is a perfect opener, slowly unfolding with a classic Slowdive ambience. The feeling endures as the album progresses, especially beautifully in “Don’t Know Why,” which melts my ears into heavenly bliss and is definitely one of my top five favorite songs of the year, and in the final track, “Falling Ashes,” an eight-minute epic propelled by an insistent piano hook. You could listen to any of Slowdive’s recordings, though, and be dazed by the constant splendor. More than any other album in 2017, Slowdive fused past, present and future to shape a collection that glows with both alt-rock imagination and delicate, poignant finesse.

Rotten Tomatoes: Did you know how everything would shake out when you wrote the finale, or is that something you figured out over the summer?

Wendi Mericle: We knew what we were doing from the beginning of season 5. We always knew that we would end with the island blowing up. How we were gonna get there, we did not know, but it felt like a great symbolic and metaphorical way to wrap up the five-season novel that had been spun since the pilot. We knew we were going to be losing the flashbacks in season six, and [those had] always been intended to be a five-season story. That was absolutely set in stone from the get-go. Where we were going to go after that, when everybody is in jeopardy, we don’t know who survived. That has been, obviously, the work of season six.

What we usually do with most of our finales is we sort of write ourselves into a corner and then see how we’re gonna get ourselves out of it. It’s a good challenge and it keeps it interesting, and I think in this case in particular, it really hit home when we were at Comic-Con, how challenging it was. It’s tough to talk about even thematically where the season is headed in season six without in some ways giving away who made it and who didn’t.

It’s not gonna be like, “Oh, hey, surprise, everybody survives, just kidding,” right?

We can’t go out with a finale of that scope and size and have everybody come out hunky dory. That would not be cool. The ramifications of what happened at the end of the season really will be felt throughout the year. We will know who’s alive and who’s not at the end of the premiere. But just because someone doesn’t die doesn’t mean they’re not gonna feel the impact of that event emotionally and possibly physically as well.

Having some kind of physical consequence to say, running through a bomb, might have something to do with it. It’s war. It brings, in a very grounded way, the reality of what they do. I think it’s easy in a superhero show to get sucked into this idea that they’re invulnerable and they don’t get hurt, but we’re going to see in season 6 that that’s definitely not the case.

When Oliver goes back to Star City, is he still the mayor?

Yes, we left him as the mayor and he will still be the mayor. We are going to continue that storyline through season 6 as well. I think Oliver works as a mayor. There’s going to be something big that happens in the premiere that is going to certainly cast some doubt on his ability to continue to do that job, but, it’s a world that we like and that we think has worked on the show well.

They’re obviously are no more flashbacks on the island, but there will still be flashbacks, right?

We are going to keep them; we’re gonna use them in a different way, though. The fun of season 6 is that we are really freed up. We have that device if we want it and we know how to break those stories and we know how to work that into the way we do this show. But the fun will be that we get to see other people’s flashbacks. “Hey, what were some of the other characters’ back stories?” We know that, for instance, Black Canary and Black Siren will both be on the show this year, so what are their back stories?

With Oliver having to deal with this very traumatic event, it doesn’t really sound like he’s going to be the most present dad.

I think this is the area of the show that is the most interesting of the season, because I don’t think we’ve really ever seen a superhero be a father, especially on television, and it’s a very particular challenge. There’s a whole different level of risk and consideration. He has a child now that he is responsible for and it changes the way he looks at his job — both his day job and especially at his night job — so it’s a whole different calculus and it opens up all kinds of different avenues for stories we haven’t seen before, which in a season 6 show is really important.

I think it’s just fun to see Oliver grappling with this. Parenthood is hard and it’s a lot easier to punch the bad guy than it is to figure out how to help your kid through math homework or bullying, whatever it is that they’re going through that week. I think the fun of it is seeing Oliver go through a learning curve with respect to how to be a good dad. It’s something he’s never had to do before and it’s something that doesn’t really fit in the paradigm of what we’ve seen him do successfully in the past.

What can you say about Vigilante as this mysterious figure we’re still wondering about?

We are super psyched about that character and about the stories that we have planned. He’ll definitely come back. We left that dangling deliberately in season five knowing that we would bring that character back in season 6. He’ll have a really cool story line, not just in respect to the city, but also with respect to a particular member of the team. We’re intrigued and we’re kind of going through the casting process right now. We’re very excited about it.

What kind of energy does newbie Michael Emerson bring to the show?

We’re super thrilled to have him. He’s been tremendous and brings so much to the role and has all these ideas and he’s just been a great, collaborative partner in the process of figuring out his character. His character is definitely going to be a bad guy and is a bad guy we haven’t seen on the show before, I think it’s safe to say he’s really going to give Oliver and Felicity in particular a run for their money. He’s very soft-spoken. He’s very intelligent. And all of that is different than any of the villains we’ve had on the show in the past.

This year’s crossover is a massive two-night, four-hour event. What can you say about it?

It’s going to be, in some ways, interestingly kind of relevant to current events in a way that the show doesn’t always have that kind of synergy. It’s going to feel much more like a mini-series or two movies. It’s a four hour event; it is a true crossover. The way we’re telling the stories, though, is different than we’ve done it in the past. It’s great for the fans and an even bigger headache for everybody who has to make it happen on the other side.

It is a is an extremely difficult situation on any level but more so when you love the lying suspect with your whole heart and soul. God help those who possess an analytical mind and put it in practice with something akin to an old Irish idiom: Don’t believe anything you hear and only half what you see!  The Master Director of mystery films and thrillers, Alfred Hitchcock, provides these questions and situations to ponder as we watch his 1941 film, Suspicion.

In this Hitchcock film, the person possibly lying is none other than the debonair, charismatic Cary Grant (Johnnie Aysgarth).  The person desperately wanting to believe his lies is the lovely, slightly naive Joan Fontaine (Lina Mclaidlaw Aysgarth), his wife.

Lina, who lacks confidence in herself as an attractive woman along with being painfully shy, accidentally meets a man too good to be true. She finds herself falling madly in love. This begins as handsome Johnnie shows up in her first class train compartment with his third class train ticket. She never met anyone like him before.

This is the first film out of three Hitchcock films that Grant plays the lead. According to Grant, it was going to be the last movie too.  He didn’t like how his character was handled; and, he thought Hitch gave more attention to Fontaine.  She won an academy award for her performance.  This picture was nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture too.

  I love the way this movie starts with a pitch black screen. Then, you hear a train whistle.  Then, the audience hears Grant’s voice apologizing for kicking a leg.  You hear him say, I didn’t mean to hurt you.  Nothing like a bit of foreshadowing by Hitchcock.  It is dark because the train is going through a tunnel; but, once the train is through it, the light reveals a bookish, nerdy kind of young lady wearing glasses (Lina) sitting alone in a compartment. She is staring, in amazement, at the uncouthness of Cary Grant (Johnnie). This sets the mood for this entire movie…The audience is in the dark and never sure what to believe.

  This is their first meeting.  The porter checks the tickets and discovers Johnnie (Grant) has a third class ticket; yet, he is in a first class compartment.  He didn’t have enough money to upgrade his ticket.  He asks book girl if she has any extra change.  Again, her jaw drops.  As she fumbles for some money, he sees a postage stamp in her hand.  He takes it and gives it to the porter and says to him: it is legal tender. Now, go and mail a letter.

Later, he sees Lina atop a nervous horse at an equestrian event.  When her horse rears up on its hind legs, she skillfully reins him in; and, he settles down. She is clearly enjoying her ride upon this spirited horse. Johnnie can hardly believe it is the same girl on the train.  He asks his lady companions who she is. They know her and are a bit negative in their comments of her.  You know how jealous some women can be. The ladies decides to introduce Johnnie to her with a visit.  They ask her to join them for Sunday church services.

Lina meets Johnnie and his groupies for church.  As she is about to go in, Johnnie holds her back.  He asks, You really don’t want to go to Church service? Do you?  Lina tries to pull away, Johnnie is stronger. He tells her they will toss a coin and decide whether to go inside with the others. He tosses a coin.  Head or tails, you just know that he will win. When the rest of the group notices the two missing, they look back but see nothing.

Next, we see another Hitchcock foreshadowing. There is a couple, in the distance, on a hill. They are physically struggling against one another. At first, I thought he was going to toss her over a cliff.  As the camera comes closer, we can see it is Johnnie and Lina. Lina can’t shake him off her. Then, Johnnie says, Why are you fighting me?  Did you think I was going to kiss you?  Lina replies: Yes! Why else would you try to put your arms around me.  Johnnie said he was trying to fix her hair. You know this is total nonsense.  Then, he plays with her hair and puts it in the most ridiculous styles. Which is actually pretty funny.

Later, when they reach her house, they overhear through an open window, Lina’s mother and father talking about her being a spinster and how her father must leave her a fortune to live on. You can see the hurt in Lina’s face. As she turns away to leave, she sees Johnnie looking over her shoulder. She does not hesitate.  She wraps her arms around his neck and  passionately kisses him, full mouth. Then, she runs into the house.

Of course she cannot help herself. He has given her more attention, in the space of an hour, than she had ever had in her whole life from the opposite sex.  Besides, he is charming, witty, and so visually pleasing to the eyes. He convinces her that he has noted her peculiarities, and what’s more, he really likes how her uniqueness is packaged.  Really, what’s not to love? But, is he telling the truth?

Throughout this movie, we ask ourselves these questions, just like the heroine, Lina.  We really want Johnnie to be honest with her because they are both so likable and sweetly flawed. Does she see warning signs along the way that Johnnie may not be totally honest with her? Is he a pure selfish cad? Or is he a newbie with this whole “trust thing” and he’s just bumbling along?  Of course, she sees the signs. Like many people in love, she believes her mate, Cary Johnnie; even though, he has no job (most playboys/players do not have a job); and, he has acquired massive gambling debits. However, he appears to be so in love with Lina; that he promises to stop gambling and to get a job.

Besides, Johnnie thinks Lina’s rich Daddy, General Mclaidlaw (Cecil Hardwicke) will give them an expensive wedding gift…Maybe a house or a lump sum of money?  With this in mind, they go on an expensive honeymoon. Since his investments seem to be going no where, Johnnie gets a job from his cousin, Melbeck  However, money turns up missing.  He tells Johnnie if he replaces the money, he will not call the police.  Desperate, Johnnie takes the wedding gift (two antique, heirloom chairs) from his father-in-law and sells them. Lina finds out and is so upset that Johnnie brings the chairs back.

  When the General dies, the only inheritance he left Lina was his portrait.  Johnnie’s finances are drying up. Then, Johnnie’s best mate, dear amicable, Beaky (Nigel Bruce) shows up to invest in Johnnie’s failed financial adventure in land development.  Lina likes Beaky; and, she tries to talk him out of investing.  When Johnnie finds out she tries to talk Beaky out of investing, he warns her to stay out of his business. Later, he tells her he called off the deal with Beaky.  Instead, he travels with Beaky to London and from there Beaky travels alone to Paris for a business deal.

However, during these series of unlucky financial events, Lina begins to feel ill most of the time.  A neighbor who writes murder mysteries told her that Johnnie was asking her questions about which poisons are undetectable. Johnnie insists on bringing her a glass of milk before bedtime. Hitchcock brilliantly films Grant carrying the glass of milk up the stairs, in the shadows, with web like shapes running throughout the scene…Oh! What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive (Sir Walter Scott).

Then tragedy strikes. Beaky turns up dead in Paris, and no one can find the money he bought with him for the business deal. Lina begins to do more than suspect her lovely, charming husband. She now fears him. With everyone around her is telling her not to trust him, Johnnie vehemently claims his love for her and he is telling her the truth. He demands that she should believe him. He is ready to leave if she wishes it; but, he will be heartbroken for the rest of his life if he isn’t loved by her anymore. Lina wants to leave and visit her mother.  Johnnie angrily insists that he drive her. This isn’t good.

Of course, I  not going to tell you how it ends.  You have to enjoy it for yourself. However, I will tell you that in the book, Before The Fact (1932), the author, Frances Ike, made Johnnie’s character much more sinister.  He even had a baby with the maid. In the British version of this movie, Lina is indeed murdered by Johnnie. Luckily, for us, this film is in the capable hands of Hitchcock. The creative Mr Hitchcock has a surprise for his audience in this version.  Also, like Stan Lee in the Marvel comics, he always does a cameo.  Look for him in the scene. It’s about 45 minutes into the movie.  He is mailing a letter at the village post office.   Also, people claims he pulled a horse in front of the camera just before Grant is seen at the equestrian event. I hope you watch it or watch it again.  It truly is a great classic.

Note: 華 – I translated it as brilliant/brilliance/shine here. It represents and is often used to describe the glamour/shine/aura of celebrities/idols. So Tamura-san is saying that in his play, he’s hoping to show a side of Kitayama where he isn’t all just glitz and glamour.

Facing yourself, Revealing yourself Kitayama Hiromitsu “Anchan”

Kitayama Hiromitsu who challenges his first time starring in a straight play, “Anchan”, Tamura Takahiro’s new work.

Towards a work that has no singing or dancing, Kitayama says, “I can only devote myself”.

Different from during lives and variety shows, it seems we’ll be able to see a new expression of Kitayama.

For Kitayama-san, is straight play your “first stage play”?

It’s my first stage play. I can feel this hurdle that cannot be seen lol. I intend on doing it with the heart of a newbie. It’s scary lol.

What do you mean by scary?

Because if I don’t reveal myself then it’ll appear superficial. But after revealing myself, what will happen to me? It makes my heart race lol.

Anchan is a work that carefully paints humans…

Right. In order to tackle this kind of work, I can only devote myself.

As a member of Kis-My-Ft2 and as an individual, you’ve challenged many things. Right now, to challenge a straight play, what is it like for Kitayama-san?

For me, more so than what it’ll be like for myself personally, it’s more what I can offer to the group… I can say that intention is strong. I still think so now. As expected, Kis-My-Ft2 is the center for me. But it’s our 6th year since debut now, I think that it might be fine to try facing myself once. Even for idols, behind the glamour is messy hair and sweatpants lol. Well, because there are many different sides.

The charm of a play that’s not “cool”

When the Kitayama-san during his Jr days were asked about his dream, we remember you responding, “I want to become the chairman of Teigeki and do the flying stunts”. Has that young man’s dream changed?

I think, more so than changed, I’ve gotten to know a world that I hadn’t known before. Probably, when I still had that dream, I was performing in “PLAYZONE 2009 ~taiyou kara no tegami~” by Nishikiori-san. At first, I was troubled over being requested to do a uncool play. Nishikiori-san told me, “I want your role”. So, “I see, so this is a role that Nishikiori-san wants to do”. With that in mind, as practice went on, having an uncool role became more and more interesting. I’ve experienced how it’s worth doing and the pleasure behind it.

As experience and knowledge increases, your interests grows doesn’t it.

That’s right. I watched a lot of theatre productions… For example, it’s because a comedic character dies that you would cry a lot, right? There was the me who empathized with that comedic character. For that kind of role, that actor, I’ve come to like it. The coolness of the funny character, it’s just cool! I’ve become able to think that. I don’t grow tired of watching, a coolness that has depth, it’s interesting. For myself too, I want to become someone no longer knows what they should do.

Today, just as you wish, including comedy, you’ve had many different roles.

That’s why, I can say I’m a beginner for straight play. The hurdle would not be low. It’s a first, I can feel a high hurdle that can’t be passed. …I’ll fight it. While I will, how much I’ll be able to face myself. For me right now, that’s pretty big.

How do you plan on launching “yourself”?

I want to go the opposite way from where I would feel, I want to be like this… I think lol

How to bring out the “shadow” from the Kitayama Hiromitsu who is a “light” (positive) actor

Tamura-san had commented on his impression of Kitayama-san to be, “Cannot feel anything bad from him. Someone whom you’d only notice his good virtue”

Tamura (T): Just like he would help me out by partaking in this interview together, Kitayama-kun is very proper. Because I can’t see anything bad about Kitayama-kun. I can sense it at the practice venue,  I tried looking for it but as expected I couldn’t find anything that he’s bad at.

Kitayama (K): On the other hand, it’s bad that I don’t have it. During meetings with Tamura-san, he said to feel the charm of the bad parts of people. That’s why, if that’s the case, wouldn’t I be someone who has no charm lol. It’s because of those bad parts that it’s their charm, I can understand it too.

Kitayama-san acts out the role of Ryo, the son who is not able to easily accept the return of his father who had disappeared. The theme, “Can people not live unless they make someone the bad person?”, appears to be the foundation.

K: That’s why I think it’s a piece where I must truly face myself. This time, I heard that Tamura-san had selected the actor before writing the script. First, while it had started from meeting and talking, I felt that I had to hand over everything at once. Do you call it your personal history lol. Everything about myself that I could talk about, I told him. From before I entered Johnny’s Jimusho, all the way from when I was a kid.

You offered yourself to Tamura-san?

K: Just like that lol.I thought that if I hid anything, it’d definitely be found out.

T: I asked. Of course, while it’s not filled with just stories of a good boy, as expected, he’s someone who is basically extremely good at socializing with people.

K: Really? Lol. I talked about things that were quite deep with you lol.

T: Even for things we talked about that Kitayama-kun thinks are deep, as expected, there is no “lose” in it. Even in a “losing” situation, you don’t really feel that. I got the impression that you keep on going while positioning yourself well. Because you see, withdrawing after getting hit is something that you would never do, right?

K: I wouldn’t.

T: Even when things are tough, you look forward properly. You have a way of looking up and living on.  I think you’re someone who has power. Because I’m the type to look down immediately, I think, “This person and I are completely different” lol.

Want to show a Kitayama-kun who isn’t only brilliant

Can say that Ryo is clumsy, he has the image that it’s hard to live.

K: That’s why, if I don’t bring out the “losing” part of me, then the role might not be complete. Like, how will I turn out.

T: As Kitayama-kun is acting it, the words are expressed through Kitayama-kun’s body, the element of “lose” may be changed too. I’m not a director who goes, “Do it exactly as I imagine it”. I think that the process that Kitayama-kun has lived through will definitely show in his acting. The difficulty of living that I have painted, how will Kitayama-kun choose it. It’s like, how will it turn out in the practices.

K: Ah, but when I thought that it’d be a new challenge. When my childhood friends learned about the performance summary, I was told, “It’s the perfect role for you. It was written with you in mind”.

T: I see!

K: So after that, I thought, I see, so it’s not a role that’s completely different from me…

T: I think that even as an actor, Kitayama-kun is an actor with “light”. How to bring out the “shadow” from such a Kitayama-kun. My work isn’t something with glamour. It’s like the Showa era Japan’s “to endure” or “to hide”. I want to treasure something like the virtue of Japanese people.

K: I might be in the generation that was just able to feel that Showa era. I played soccer in the era when even clube activities had that do-or-die spirit. Yet I’m also in the era that watched it slowly become looser/easier.

T: Ah, I see.

K: That’s why I don’t dislike the do-or-die spirit and I don’t find hierarchical relationships that unreasonable either. I take into consideration that it’s because there’s love, that you’re treated strictly. Because even in Johnny’s, I’m one of the last ones from the Showa era lol.

T: I totally understand~ lol

K: I’d like to do it this way while facing myself. I might find that I am filled with areas that I’m not good at when practices start lol.

T: While it seems like it will turn into a fun practice venue, I think that it will turn into a discovery of aside of Kitayama-kun that’s not just brilliant.

K: What should I do. What if on the last day of performances, I lose my shine.

T: It’s fine, because then you should be able to fully demonstrate other areas lol.

Recap:

Piging sa Lireo

Ariana looked absolutely stunning that night.

Even Hara (Queen) Danaya complimented her, Ybrahim was still speechless but managed to acknowledge Ariana’s presence nevertheless. Lira came and reminded Ariana of the dance they were going to present to everyone and even let her father, and Ariana’s brother Azulan to tag along. A festive mood filled the air when the guardians, together with Hara Pirena, Wahid, Azulan and Rama Ybrahim presented a dance for the guests. Each and everyone enjoyed and had the chance to show off their dancing skills. There was an awkward moment between Ybrahim and Ariana when Lira pushed them on the dance floor together, they ended up dancing intimately which only led to Ybrahim getting more confused at his feelings towards the Punjabwe-a. When the dance was over, Ybrahim immediately left the room and headed outside, constantly reminding himself that Ariana isn’t Amihan no matter how beautiful she is. Pirena came and was puzzled as to what he was doing outside and talking to himself. Pirena wanted to welcome the guests (and let them in since Etherians won’t be able to enter the palace freely because of the barrier), Ybrahim bluffed and told her he was doing the same.

Hara Avria and Asval arrived at the ball where they were warmly welcomed by the encantados including the monarchs of Etheria’s neighboring kingdoms. Avria presented the gifts to her new “allies” and expressed how glad she was for this new found friendship with the other kingdoms. Avria immediately requested for the wine to be served which Hara Danaya granted. Meanwhile, Wahid who was disappointed at how Lira ignored him and decided to hang-out with Pao Pao instead (Lira got annoyed at him when Wahid pushed him off during the dance) decided to drink the night away, he left his bottle of wine at one corner while looking for something to eat, a Lirean guard came, saw the bottle of liquor, and immediately drank it. Wahid got irritated but his irritation turned into shock and confusion when the soldier suddenly collapsed and died, it was only then Wahid found out that the wine was poisoned, thus he hurriedly went back to the feast and stopped everyone from drinking the contaminated liquor. Wahid proved that he was telling the truth when one member of the council died because of alcohol intake, Hara Avria’s plan was busted but managed to put up a show and pretended to be clueless. Hara Danaya immediately stopped the party and ordered for an investigation.

Hara Danaya consulted Imaw’s balintataw and found out that it was one of their guards who poured a bottle of poison to the wine prior to the feast. Danaya immediately ordered to seize the perpetrator, however, Danaya knew that the guard wouldn’t do that without reason and suspected that someone told him to do this, and they have to find out who the mastermind was. Pirena and Ybrahim brought Avria and Asval to the meeting room where Pirena low-key suspected Avria to be the culprit, again, Avria denied all of the former’s accusation but Pirena wasn't convinced especially that they still have captives on their side and Avria even used an incantation to brainwash them. Avria insisted that they don’t have hostages anymore and the encantados on their side “volunteered” to pledge their loyalty to Etheria. Pirena was still unconvinced and reminded Avria that Imaw cane is a powerful tool and that will help them give the answers they were looking for.

Avria knew the diwatas will find out that she was faking it all along, thus she had to do something. She excused herself and told Ybrahim and Pirena that she wanted to use the rest room. Truth was, she went out of the way to look for that soldier she brainwashed, she saw him being surrounded by other Lirean guards and Mashna (General) Muros. They were interrogating the suspect and demanded him to tell them who ordered him to put poison on the wine. Avria has the ability to control and manipulate the mind, and through this, she was able to dictate what the guard must say and that is to express his disapproval of Lireo making peace with Etheria, and he despised Etherians more than anyone, he attempted to wreck havoc which forced Mashna Muros to kill the suspect on the spot.

Muros immediately reported this to the monarchs. Danaya apologized for what happened that night and assured her that it won’t happen again. Avria “thanked” the Lirean Queen for their fast action, it was also an opportunity for Rama (King) to ask Avria to free all of the encantados on their side which Asval strongly disagreed and insisted that they already swore loyalty to Etheria but Avria stopped Asval and “agreed” to the monarch’s request. She vowed to release every encantado in Etheria the following day. Avria and Asval bid farewell to the Queens and King, Pirena was still unconvinced, but Danaya found no reason to doubt Avria especially now that Avria has proven her innocence in the attempted mass murder.

Mashna Mayca told the youngsters to call it a night but Luna decided to take a walk just outside the palace. He found Gilas who was trying to tame an Argona, Luna admitted that she still isn’t used to sleep in a large and luxurious room and preferred their old home, but Gilas resented the fact that even if they choose to return to their home, it wouldn’t be the same anymore since their mothers are gone—Helgad is dead, and Sera is nowhere to be found. Their conversation was interrupted when they heard someone coming, a familiar face appeared before Luna and Gilas—Lila Sari.

Rave/s:

💎 For the opening of the show, I’d say I really enjoyed that dance scene. It was nice, it was funny, it was cute. They were all fun to watch, I wished Danaya joined the dance as well, Muyak and Wantuk was freakin’ funny and entertaining, and AzPiren is the center of the spotlight! Oh gosh I can’t for that kiss tomorrow my ghaaaad! Also I have to say that the quality of the video for tonight’s ep looks really good on TV, nice job DMR.

🖤❤ Ah, I just love watching Ms Eula and Glaiza together, seriously, I would go binge watch every Avria and Pirena scene every single day. These two actresses are just so, so good and I’m really looking forward to see these really outstanding women on other shows after Encantadia. But that aside, Danaya seems to be trusting Avria now, Piry you’ve already done this before, come on! You of all people know the words betrayal and deception better than anybody.

Rant/s: 🤔 Hm…so a lot of fans are not liking Arra’s performance and I think I know why. Actually I had high hopes for that intimate dance between Ybrahim and Ariana and I was really, really hoping and praying to see that spark that I’ve been wanting to see. Ruru was so on point on this scene, but again, it was him who brought that scene, I didn’t see the team work between Arra and Ru. I want to see what Ybrahim sees in Ariana, I want to connect with Ybrahim’s character especially on contemplating his feelings towards Ariana, story wise this would have been a really great start for YbraMihan version 2, but the problem here is Arra. Although her performance tonight compared to last week and the week before that was much better, I think the main reason why Arra couldn’t connect with Ruru and viewers is that, she seems to have a lot of things going on in her head. I think Arra is overthinking her character way too much that she often forget to loosen up and actually enjoy the scene. See? That’s the common problem I’ve been seeing on the newbies. Arra for sure is definitely pressured for she has a huge role to play, being Amihan’s sarkosi and Kylie’s replacement, plus the bashing and all, who wouldn’t go crazy with that? I think for Arra to effectively play Ariana’s character, she should start by developing a really good working relationship with her co-stars especially Ruru and Mikee, that way, she’ll get comfortable in the set and the people she’s working with, and everything else will follow, it will be captured by the camera and every viewer will feel it. I’ve re-watched some of her scenes from the previous episodes and if you really look at her closely, there is confusion in her eyes—what to do and what emotion is she going to show, there was the pressure—so much pressure and she’s not doing a very good job at hiding it, and it’s suppressing her from doing what she supposed to do. I myself couldn’t connect with Ariana’s character because she seemed to have this invisible barrier that prevents me (at least for me) to really look into her character, and she has to break that barrier so that people could connect and relate with her, and eventually gain the love and respect that her character deserves. As for the fans, please stop bashing her because it will only take a toll on her and on all of you, chill, relax and loosen up, and that’s just not for Arra, that’s for everyone of us.

🤔 Why didn’t they asked Imaw’s balintataw of who’s the mastermind of that attempted mass murder instead of hunting the culprit and interrogating him? That would have been much easier, but then again, Ether would have blocked the balintataw’s power, bummer. I hate that Ether always have pa-livestream whilst Imaw’s cane is like a CCTV, minsan hindi pa gumagana, leche!

Fight Night

Who →  Tiny Bell & Drew Torres When → March 22nd 2017 Where → Gold’s Gym on Isabella St. Notes → Drew attempts to teach Tiny a few things about fighting, only for things to end up crashing down one last time for Tiny.

Tiny: hated to admit it, but Drew seemed to know what he was doing when it came to fighting. While he wasn't the most efficient teacher or anything, sparring with him had been helping him find triggers for all the anger he'd been having lately. And although he still had /some/ issues, like random chest pains, he was feeling better than ever lately. So as he approached the ring, he figured one more extra session this week wouldn't hurt. "Hey Torres!", Tiny called out as he walked to the side of the ring, backpack slung over his shoulders. "Let's try something new today, eh?"

Drew: didn't mind helping out Tiny once he realized the perks. Getting to beat up the kid and not having to worry about any back lash was great, not that he would be too worried to begin with. Fighting is something he loved more than anything, it always helped him and the money isn't too bad as well. Sparring in the ring with another buddy he tried out a couple new combos before hearing Tiny. Stepping back he looked at the kid then signaled for him to join. "Bell, was I not kicking your ass enough before?" He said with a chuckle. "Got some new kicks and jabs I can show you." he said with a evil smile.

Tiny: "Alright, first off: I /let/ hit me a lot of those times.", he pointed out with a laugh as he sat his backpack on a seat. "Finding like, anger triggers and stuff has been pretty useful. But you know what? That sounds like an idea. I think I'm ready to spar, like for real for real now." Taking off his shirt, he climbed into the ring, doing a few stretches as he got ready. The older Torres was surprisingly easy going about this arrangement, considering his past with his brother and his Athlete status, however Tiny chucked it up to his own easy going attitude. "Alright, as long as you don't pretend I'm Dallas during this session again, we'll be good." He said as he raised his first with a laugh.

Drew: rolled his eyes, "Yeah, sure." Bumping his boxing gloves with the other guy he nodded as the guy left the ring. "Well that was the point of all this wasn't? Oh for real now? Don't have to tell me twice." Joining him he also took his shirt off, tossing it to the side along with his gloves. "You're gonna wish you didn't that." The only reason Drew took it so easy on the kid is mainly because his beef is with Vince, not all Bell's. He knows better than anyone you can't choose family. Drew laughed, "Got you." Raising his fist he started moving around the ring slowly, "We done figuring out your triggers cause let me tell you I could really go for trash talking Vince today."

Tiny: "Well yeah, but I like, still like this whole fighting thing. It's fun. But I'm just not trying to lose my mind like with what happened with Dallas again.", he noted and shook his head. Tiny had gotten mad before, but losing control like that was something he knew he needed to get a handle on and fast before he hurt someone he cared about for real. Thankfully, this had helped find his triggers and how to avoid them. A smirk appeared on his face as Drew started talking a little bit cocky, a little excited for what the older boy had to teach him. "Yeah yeah. I've seen you enough to know your weak points, I think. I can handle whatever you throw my way.", he boasted as put on his gloves before he raised his fists up. At the mention of his brother, he gritted his teeth for a moment on instinct, before taking a small breath. "Yeah, I know my triggers. You wouldn't want to talk about brothers when I could trash talk Adam for hours though..", he pointed out with a laugh as gave Drew a jab to start.

Drew: "Can't promise that you'll stay sane when fighting. Sometimes you'll get frustrated and if you're losing, you might lose control again, but I got some tips I'll show you when you reach that point." Drew knew better than anyone about controlling his emotions when fighting. Anytime he doesn't he loses. It happened the first couple of times he fought and then again with Luke. "I'll tell you that you have to just not give a shit about anything expect coming out on top." He added. Ever since they started fighting together it had been fun, though he wouldn't admit. Most people wouldn't volunteer to get hit by him so he loved every minute. "Oh really? Someone's getting too cocky. We'll see about that." Drew grabbed his MMA gloves then cracked his neck, moving his head from side to side while jumping in place to pump himself up. Seconds later he join the other guy, laughing with his gloves raised. "Do ya, huh? Well bring it on. Bet mine will piss you off." He said as he blocked the jab. Following Tiny's lead he jabbed toward the others face then quickly again at his stomach.

Tiny: knew what Drew was saying had some truth to it as he listened to him talk about still possibly getting frustrated. Words could still hurt, he figured, but he knew he had to find a way to channel that into an emotion that wasn't as destructive or hurtful to those around him, saving that rage hopefully for a real opponent one day. "Got it.", he nodded as he realized the only goal in a ring and in a fight was to win, and never let your opponent get into your head with trash talk. Tiny could only chuckle a bit at the older boy's enthusiasm for fighting as he got himself pumped, but he knew he had some of the same drive at least. Tiny responded to the his blocked hit by trying another of his own, missing and feeling Drew hit him in his stomach. "Ahh..haha, I'm kinda slow still I guess.", he chuckled as he clutched his stomach. His smile faltered slightly when he felt a sharp pain in his chest, more intense than previously, making his hand travel to his chest as he breathed a little heavier. "I'm good..", he paused as he took a deep breath as he tried to regain his normal breathing again, still feeling a sharpness but trying to play it off as he raised his fists up again.

Drew: made sure he didn't get too far into his fight zone, trying to take it easy on the newbie. But once those fits were raised it was hard for him to go easy. When his glove made contact with Tiny's stomach he couldn't help but smirk. "You gotta watch out for that. More than likely no one is going to throw just one punch." He said giving the kid a second to catch his breath. "You good?" He questioned about to lower his fists, but then he got his answer. As the other guys fists raises Drew was a little impressed. "Need me to go easy on you?" He asked with a fake pout, throwing a punch toward his face, but missing. Drew started jumping again, lightly bouncing around. "Ahh who am I kidding, I can't do that." His stance changed, making it look like he was going to kick Tiny but instead he launched forward hit him in the chest hard enough to make his opponent fall. "Yeah, baby!! That's what I'm talking about."

Tiny: Heh..guess I gotta watch out for that...urgh..I mean those crazy hands of yours..", he groaned as he tried to play off the pain he was in by laughing slightly. He slightly winced as he tried to regain his composure. While Tiny was confident, he was still new to this compared to Drew, and he didn't want to seem like he was weak. He figured this pain was all apart of the process and that he'd get used to it. "Don't go easy..just keep going.." Smiling weakly, he raised his fists as he tried to charge toward Drew and power through, hoping to hit him somewhere and cause some damage. He missed, recoiling quickly as he expected a kick and kept his hands near his face to block. Curiously, he didn't feel anything his his face, but the boy was floored once Drew's fist made contact with his chest. "Shit!", he said as he fell backwards. "Not bad..not..", he panted and tried to stand up, but quickly feeling his chest tighten even worse than before. "AAAAGGGHH!", he screamed out, clutching his chest as his body fell back to the ground. "Fuck...ah! It hurts worse! Something's..wrong!", he cried out in pain shutting his eyes tightly.

Drew: took what Tiny said into consideration before hitting him. The teen had a lot of pent up angry he needed to get out from when Tori was missing. Drew wanted nothing more than to hurt the girls father and now is letting off some steam without realizing how powerful of a punch he gave off. The teen soon figured it out once Tiny couldn't stand up. His eyes widen as he watched the other boy. Normally he would think the other guy is just being a wimp but he could tell Tiny was actually hurt. Looking around he noticed no one else is with them. "Fuck, okay hold on.." Running out of the ring he grabbed his phone dialing 911. "I'm at the gym on Isabella St. This guy can't get up and is clutching his chest." Once the lady on the other end of the phone said someone is coming he hung up and moved back to the boy. "Helps coming so just keep breathing." He said unsure of what to say or do.

Tiny: knew that things had been tense in the past few days with Tori, and he knew the Drew had a lot of pent up aggression and rage towards her father and the entire situation, so he had a feeling the older boy wouldn't hold back. But when Drew's fist hit Tiny's chest, something had gone terribly wrong somehow. "Ahh...", he groaned as he stayed collapsed on the ground, clutching his chest as he felt it getting harder and harder to breath. "It's getting worse..not gonna..shit!", he muttered as he reached into his pocket with his free phone, struggling to unlock it. He reached up and tried to hand the phone to Drew, pushing the name of his Aunt to appear on the screen. "Call..my Aunt Viv..call her...", he said breathlessly, before Tiny felt all the strength leave his body, causing him to shut his eyes and slowly lose consciousness.

Life Lately February 2017

 New Job: It’s my fifth month at work. I’ve never expected joining a company I now call a family. I remember when I was just starting, career has always been my issue but never have I imagined working now and having my own workplace.

I started last September 2016, I was told to report at their office to meet the 4 bosses (Regional Manager, Finance Manager, Vice President and the President). They were all very kind, approachable and smart. The whole month of September have been a very challenging month for me. The fact that, I’m entering a new environment where I don’t know anyone, staying in Manila and commuting everyday, budgeting money on my own to survive the whole week, and learning about new/unfamiliar things (the business world). Aside from that, before I left Naga, my grandma was rushed to the hospital complaining for stomach ache and vomiting. It was so heart breaking knowing that I can’t be there physically for her and what’s worst, her unexpected death that left us wondering why too soon and our never ending question about the doctors who were part of her operation. (I need to end this here, I’m going to cry again.) I went back to work with a weak heart and soul but it made me more inspired to work harder and to dedicate all my efforts for her.

Those were the days where I cry thinking what I’m going to do with my life considering the fact that I’ve tried applying in most of the hospitals in my city and ending up resigning after a week. Now, I’m celebrating my fourth month here in my new job. Funny how I never learned about doing what I love and not forcing myself to work in a place I never really wanted. Funny how I’ve set my mind to like something I really don’t like. Funny because it’s only until now that I learned about all those things. The need to take risk, the need to take a leap of faith. They say it’s when you’re scared that you’re doing something brave and it takes a lot of courage to succeed in all these. Thank God my parents accepted the fact that what’s more important is doing what I love instead of doing what they want.

I’m so happy and grateful to be part of this company. Luckier, because I have awesome workmates.

Happy 5th Month to me!  

 Annual Convention: I was invited last February 9-11 to attend in our company’s annual convention. My supervisor should be the one attending in those events but this year, I was luckily invited since the day before the convention, there was an important scheduled meeting with the medical licensed professionals and bosses regarding FDA updates.

 The convention was held at Thunderbird Casino Binangonan, Rizal. The place was breathtaking, I really made sure I’ll enjoy my stay there. It was a 3-day stay, our first day was all about talks on how to increase sales and team building activities. I’m so thankful we have those activities coz’ I got the chance to talk to unfamiliar faces.

The second day was all about presentation of sales and quota and that night was our most awaited gala night. Since I was a newbie, they told me that It’s a must to showcase our hidden talents. There was a ballroom dancing competition and my bosses volunteered me to be part of the said competition. It was funny because, we only had a limited time to practice. We got 3rd place and was given a prize. Lol. My workmates were telling me that they can’t believe I can dance. Lol. It was really a fun experience! Everyone enjoyed that night. I can still remember my workmates dancing and showcasing their moves on the dance floor, on the other side, workmates roaming around the hall inviting other to take a picture with them and some, holding their shot glass and shouting cheers! I will never forget that moment! It was euphoric!

The third day was spent swimming! Together with Ma’am Fatima, Ma’am Kitkat, Ma’am Janesa, Ma’am Janice, and Ma’am Beth, we extended our stay. Thanks to Ma’am Fatima for letting us experience what Thunderbird Casino has to offer.

 The Yard Underground Pasig: I discovered a new food park near my office at Pasig City. There were so many foods to choose from. It was like a one stop restaurant where you can find everything from seafood, ice cream, waffle, Japanese food, Korean cuisine, breakfast menu etc. Together with my workmates, ma’am Jess and ma’am Beth, we tried the Ta Ke Ho Me sushi, hash brown with oozing cheese (well I forgot the name.lol), the shrimp tempura and the amazing frappe filled with toppings. (Meyn! I’m drooling!) It’s really hard to choose when there’s a lot of food to choose from, as of that moment, it was our biggest dilemma.

Kenny Rogers: I never expected Kenny Rogers would offer a plate that has all of my favorites. Ma’am Beth’s parents invited us for a lunch date since we were strolling at Cubao and her parents was also waiting for her brother from work. We met at Kenny Rogers SM Cubao and as we were ordering food, her father asked us what we like to order, since I wasn’t familiar with the menu, I told ma’am Beth that I’ll also get what she orders. Then came our orders, grilled chicken barbecue, corn and carrots, corn muffin and mac n cheese. All I can say to her that time was Oh la la! A big thanks to her parents.

 Valentine’s Day: I celebrated my Valentine’s Day with mom. We decided to buy a bucket of Jollibee chickenjoy that was supposed to be a Greenwich pizza. To prevent long queues, I opted for Jollibee. What made me even happy was my boyfriend’s video call! Even though we were miles apart, we still enjoyed our Valentines date. Surprises can still be possible even when we’re apart right? ;)

 Mommy Sophie’s Birthday: Even when my grandma has left us to join the Lord, it doesn’t mean we won’t celebrate her birthday anymore. Together with my family, we celebrated he birthday last Sunday (Feb 26). We prepared foods for her just like the old times. I miss you, grandma so much! Happy Birthday, Mommy Sophie!

 Relationship with God: I’ll take this opportunity to thank God for all the blessings He has given me. I can’t believe how my prayers were all granted, I can’t thank Him enough. I knew it was Him who helped me through bad times and I’m now rejoicing with Him because of all the success, guidance and blessings He has given me. Thank you, PapiLo for everything.

It would make an incredible movie! I could not put this book down. When I started it, I was expecting a murder mystery, not expecting to meet a supernatural entity. The book was completely engrossing, and the smallest details turned out to be foreshadows by the end. An entire world (or underworld) opened up as the pages turned. Zoe, her brother, Jonah and their mom become caught up in something much larger than the state of Montana where the book is set. I cannot praise this story too highly. A Triumph. I don’t always read New Young Adult Paranormal Romance (as the overhead B&N section sign beckons). But when I do, I prefer Jeff Giles. THE EDGE OF EVERYTHING, the author’s first foray into YA fiction, confidently hits all its marks, and then some. Hunky supernatural antihero? Check. Perceptive, awkward, searching young earthling heroine? Of course. Loving, flawed, infuriating parents? No doubt. Devilishly fun and charming supporting characters? Yes; yes; yes; yes. Gorgeously imagined otherworld society and settings? Nailed it. This fantasy newbie has turned out what it takes many writers years to perfect: top-flight world-building. Zoe used to be a normal teenage girl, at least until her father died in a caving accident. Trapped in my Silvester Groundhog Day

I’ve heard them already, outside, not many, just a few. Whizzes and bangs. It’s tonight. I’m dreading the night the rest of the world looks forward to. The countdown. Yes, New Year’s Eve - known as Silvester in Germany. But maybe I’m not alone, I guess my sister’s dog is too. I caught my neighbour yelling after her 18 year old son, “Be back before midnight!”. He smirked all knowingly as he shuffled past me on the stairs and she raised her eyebrows as I came into view. “Silvester! Chaos!”

 I used to love New Year’s Eve in London celebrating in Victoria Street because we couldn’t be bothered to queue half the day for 12 mins of fireworks on the Thames Embankment itself. And anyhow we could see the “Big Ben” tower, Westminster Abbey, half the London Eye and a heck of a load of fireworks for very little inconvenience. Everyone was jovial yet orderly.

NYE in Brazil shocked me a bit as a firework mortar battery was unexpectedly set off by neighbours in the residents square - and it fell over firing at the crowd. But this, my fourth New Year in Germany, makes me dread this night. There was no warning. I blindly fell into the trap on my first NYE in Dusseldorf.

Standing waiting at the river Rhine with two other newbie foreign expats we expected a spectacle to explode from the TV Tower at midnight. Colleagues had specifically told us to “Go and see the fireworks at the Rhein”. Our expectations high. The countdown came and went, the tower stayed quiet but all around us was utter mayhem. We were scared. OK, I was scared the most. I’m jumpy naturally and loud bangs freak me out. So there we were trapped and surrounded by people indiscriminately letting off fireworks behind my back as we were stuck against the riverside wall. “Thud” - yeah I don’t want to know what hit me. People were literally standing in groups and bending down and lighting rockets, roman candles, flares and the like all around us. OK it was a fantastic light display. All ‘Made in Germany’ for safety!

But these were mostly adults. Not teenagers - like those who set off fireworks every weekend in the UK on Halloween and Guy Fawkes Night (when the Brits get children to build an effigy and burn it on a bonfire - charming!) - and then fireworks on and off - right through to New Year’s. But what they don’t do is set them off in crowded places full of people. Mainly coz even they know the ‘Fireworks Code’ that was drilled into us British kids at primary school. The dangers ingrained in me further when a father was killed at a firework display organised by the Parent Teacher Association. So I have baggage. But always remember to ask more of your well meaning colleagues and their “recommendations”. Or take a local with you!

So my error, I hadn’t read about NYE - just seen the fireworks in Berlin on the TV. But then again most Germans I had met were sensibly acting people. Which led me for 2015 to do research and opt for the big set piece at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. Having watched the sunrise while freezing on top of the Bundestag all was set for a wonderful day. Until the rain arrived and we didn’t see the fun of being in the ‘party mile’ in the wet. So why not view it all from ‘the other side’ on Unter Der Linden. Hmm. Big mistake. You can see the Brandenburg Gate but we saw no fireworks. It actually made me think that it’s computer generated on tv. But the same amazing impromtu displays were erupting all around us (see video below) . Amazing displays, amazing amounts of money that individuals splurge on their own fireworks. (btw you can gernerally only buy fireworks a couple of days before Silvester itself). Yes, it’s chaos, it’s bonkers, its quite bizarre - pop-up street vendors selling alcohol too. It’s a miracle there aren’t more injuries but there was a constant stream of Fire trucks and ambulances screeching through Berlin city.

2016 saw a trip to Cologne but to the safety of friend’s party with a balcony (main photo). However my nervousness returned as there were announcements at the station (in German) for people to ‘Not set off fireworks on the platforms or station buildings’. I guess after my previous encounters people here do need to be advised of this practicality. However to here the same announcement on the train adding ‘please don’t set off fireworks on the train’ made me smile in a surreal way as viewed my fellow passengers - some of whom were carrying big packs of rockets. I dreaded leaving the train.

The carnage on the streets afterwards is crazy. I don’t want to bring in analogies as the world is in too much real turmoil… But apart from the spent firework casings - especially these mortar batteries!!! All that bottle bank good citizen has gone out the window … recycling is for another day.

So it’s clear Germany is not boring! But they are crazy! Ok, it’s not a very scientific survey but I was happy to read Anja Samy (@anjasamy on theLocal.de 21/12/17 “Fireworks in Germany: what to know about ending 2017 with a bang”). She mentions eye injuries, burns and pollutution. So wish I’d read something like this sooner. But gratefully its full of all the warnings I appreciate from the authorities and health experts. So there are rules after all.

I’ve experienced New Year’s Eve in some far-flung and remote places from Bangkok to Brazil and London to umm Wales but Germany wins first prize in utter scariness. What? You say … a key part of travelling is to view and observe and experience different cultures and their festivals so I’ve witnessed this and it scares me!

So in the land of so called officaldom… the Germans forget all those rules and regulations for one night. A few hours of madness. And then we’ll be back to normal … unlike London, where youths would be setting them off for days to come…but on 2nd January…It’s over. Normality resumes. Hats off to them LOL

It's the time of the year when we can fill our clean New Year's slate with our bucket list of goals. It's a time for reflection and intention. Questions for You 1. What do you want for yourself this year? Once you get an answer. Go to the next question. 2. What do you really, really, really want for yourself this year? Take your time and dig down to discern what you want. Once you get your answer, imagine what that will look like and how you will feel once you have it. Repeat questions 1 and 2 until you have your bucket list of goals for this year. Regardless of what your goals are for this year, I have learned and experienced that there are 3 super simple ways to ensure that you not only reach your goals but also sustain them. Like so many people in the world, I have my own New Year's goals because I am passionate about growing into the best version of myself. I Fell in Love I reached many of the goals that I set for myself last year. One of them was having a regular yoga practice. My mind and body fell in love with yoga after just a few classes. I felt less stressed and my body became stronger and more flexible. I wanted it to become a part of my life, and I wanted to go to yoga classes more. Unfortunately, I found no sessions that fit my ever-changing schedule. My schedule was tight. KISS Curious about how I was able to create a sustainable home yoga practice? It's easy. I used the KISS principle of "keeping it super simple" to avoid setting myself up for failure. I wanted my practice to work for me and not the other way around. In order for it to support me, I had to anticipate and accept the fact that there would be days that I will miss due to unexpected life circumstances. Understanding this made the process nicer for me because I didn't feel guilty when I did miss a morning ritual. Here's are my 3 Super Simple Tips to Help You Succeed in 2017: 1. 20-Second-Rule Every evening, I placed my yoga clothes next to my bed so that when I woke up; it was the first thing, besides my husband, that I saw in the morning. This technique is based on the 20-second rule that Shawn Achor shared in his book, The Happiness Advantage. By taking a few seconds to put my yoga clothes by my bed the night before, this crucial step ensured that I would not miss my morning practice. Once I put on my yoga clothes right after getting up, there was only one thing to do, and it was...yoga. "Set yourself up for success. Prepare and take a small action the night before." 2. Create Your Rules After the 30-day yoga challenge, I decided to allow my mind and body to choose the best yoga practice it needed that day. If my neck and shoulders were tight, then I chose a practice that focused on those areas. I made sure that this home practice was practical for me. Because I work long hours on certain days and have other days off, I defined my yoga practice as "any purposeful stretching or movement" that I can do in the morning. I created the rules that worked for me. While sometimes it was a 60-minute practice, other times it was a 5-minute practice that involved a couple of forward bends, stretches, and a few deep breaths. "It's your practice. Define it on your own terms!" 3. Self-Compassion Life happens, and it derails us from our normal routine. I know that I am not alone in this. Every time I noticed myself getting side-tracked from my morning yoga ritual, I gave myself a break and practiced self-kindness. I gave myself self-compassion when I didn't have the time to commit to my morning yoga practice. There were times last year where my personal practice needed to take the back seat because my family needed me such as when my father had his heart surgery, when my mother needed someone to talk with, or when my kids got sick. That is life. In order to make up for the lost day of practice, I made sure I did a yoga practice the following day and a longer practice on the weekend. "When you get thrown off the track, give yourself permission to be human then jump back on."
