This Drama Wishes It Were Men with Sword

Winner: Kimi to Yukite Saku: Shinsengumi Seishunroku

Despite being a drama filled to the brim with good looking guys of wildly varying acting ability, this one's not giving us the badgood of Men with Sword. I think MWS's special charm came from a combination of having zero budget, a bunch of new untested actors and a script whose complexity rivaled Game of Thrones.

Instead of watching a man and a woman roll around on each other in bulky historical costumes, we can now see two men roll around on each other in bulky historical costumes. I call that growth. Seriously though MYATB has been giving us romance, whump, angst, and (for some reason) kites. I love it. Sidebar: I was meh on Li Le when I first saw him in the production stills but damn, the boy delivers!

Good timezone, my lovely dreamers!

It's been a long while since last I'd been active in tumblr, but I figured getting to meet new people would be worthwhile as I've made my comeback!

To start, I answer to many names but primarily- you can call me Clay or Danny. I hoard names like a possessive dragon (/lh), but that's also in part due to my kin-list and I carry their names around proudly. (And also the fact I'm a system)

I'm bodily an adult, 23 years old to be exact and counting! I use they/them pronouns, though neos are fair game at times (such as pup/pupself and ghost-themed pronouns).

Now, I am a multi-fandom blogger and enthusiast of neurodivergent content- especially as I connect to a lot of characters.

Dream Journal, July 13th, 2024

RESCUE DREAM!!! I dreamed about rescuing various people/animals in various ways. I’m not sure about the chronological order of these events.

I was in a hotel. The light was very warm. I was preparing to do something. I ate with a group of people, including an ex. I was excited because he was talking to me. His hair seemed to glow and his friends were around him. I was going to be able to do something for him. I rushed to go meet him, closing up my journal which had paper dolls inside of it. But the paper dolls kept spilling out and I was worried everyone would see them. I followed my ex downstairs to the dining area. I had a tray of food and it was shaped like a corner, and so I sat at the corner of the long bench where we were all sitting, and he was across from me. I thought it was fate but he didn’t want to be near me and got up and moved. I did not move to follow him - maybe this is what I was able to do for him. I respected him. I didn’t feel so bad about it.

There was a river under the hotel, and koi fish swam under a wooden bridge that had many panels missing. Their tails were mangled. Something had attacked them. Larger, more monstrous creatures swam under the bridge too, and I imagined them breaking through and attacking people. I decided I would fix the bridge. I would not hunt what lived underneath.

Outside, past the bridge, there were pirate ships. We boarded them. My ex and his friends were very excited because they were filled with 3D video game models of hot women. Also because something important was going to happen on the ship that would help many people. I started talking to the captain about people who needed help. She summoned Astarion onto the ship, away from his master. They danced nude (I don’t say naked because she respected his body), and she kissed him, because she had to do this in order to free him, and then she told him he could go and he walked off of the ship extremely happy. I watched the whole process, enraptured.

Then someone was calling to me, or calling out in general. I left my ex and his friends aboard the ship and went back to the hotel, where, on an upper balcony, I could see that a woman had found a baby puppy. She didn’t know what to do with him. I told her to give him to me. She tossed him right down, along with a dog bed, and I caught him. There was a long, vivid sequence of just petting him. He felt velvet soft, just the way a newborn puppy does, and was grey, with a very round belly and floppy ears. Maybe a baby bulldog. I touched the pads of his paws and even they were soft. He was so happy, nuzzling into my hands. He had a water dish in his bed and kept sticking his face into it because he wanted to be clean. I felt that when he did, I was also clean, and pure, and moral. Everything was clean.

Interpretation: This seems like a straightforward whump fantasy from start to finish. The ability to do things for others, the forgiveness of monsters, the moral relief, the references to whump writing via Astarion and the bulldog (John Wick) and even the paper dolls. I do want to note the tie between moral relief and whump. Sometimes I think the fantasy of rescue is a very conceited fantasy. A relief to my own ego, and even a compulsion. Whether that is good or bad is not for me to say.
