i've been debating how much of my current isat art i want to post here. i do however want everyone to introduce everyone to estelle who me & @yonch share joint custody of (he also drew the portraits of postgame sif and isa)

she's pretty shy and generally introverted, not quite a bookworm but definitely on her way. once she feels comfortable around you, though, she's got a big personality (as all kids her age do, really)

postgame infodumping below cut

estelle lost her parents relatively recently (i want to say to illness or something) and she's having trouble dealing with it in the House. she's just a kid! she doesn't want to think about the loss of her parents being some kind of kind of Change for the better.

sif and isa, being pretty well-established members of the House's community, are pretty familiar with the kids that end up living there. in the end, estelle gets a little attached to sif, who understands her homesickness and feelings of ostracization more intimately than basically anyone else. isabeau is also there (clumsy but well-meaning, and with plenty of promises that he'll beat anyone up if they try to say anything mean to her)

i figure she probably moves in with isa and sif proper when she starts complaining about the house trying to move her into a different room with a new roommate: they've been thinking about adopting her for a while, but wanted it to be her choice so they didn't say anything. their family feels empty with bonnie grown up in bambouche, with odile back in ka bue, with mirabelle busy in dormont, and it's nice to have a lively house again.

...in the end, it still takes her a really long time to find out they're two of the saviors of vaugarde. she just never asked and they assumed she already knew.... and when someone says something to her, how's she supposed to believe it? papa? a savior of vaugarde? his hands shake when he cuts fruit for her! and maman always says he lived in jouvente all his life!!!! there's no way!!!!

now, if she could just get her hands on that familytale and know for sure they're just her two gross dads....

Crown Princess Margaret of Wessex: Now, Richie when we get inside, remember to mind your manners.

Prince Richard of Wessex: "tokay" mommy.

Queen Anne II of Wessex: Awe, there's my handsome man.

Anne II: How much I've missed you. And look at how you've grown! Papa will be so excited to see you.

Margaret: Richie go over and give Granny a hug.

Richard: where is papa?

Anne II: Papa went down to the village for bit with uncle George and aunt Alberta.

Margaret: George and Albie have made it here then?

Anne II: They just arrived a bit ago. And dear how are you? I surprised you arrived so early.

Margaret: I wanted to get a head start and beat the holiday traffic.

Anne II: You drove all the way from Dorset? We would have sent one of the choppers to get you two…or three.

Margaret: Just two, the Watcher only knows where your son is.

Anne II: (brief pause) … Well, yes… I’m just glad you both made it.

Anne II: How are things in Dorset? I hear you've re-planted the garden at Aldridge Lodge.

Margaret: You’ll have to come see it. The rose garden should be beautiful in the Spring.

Anne II: That would be nice. And the last time I talked to William you two were thinking about schools for Richard?

Margaret: umm, yes. I think Yeovil Boys Day School. But I’m not sure where that stands or where we stand at the moment. I’m sure you’ve heard that things had been err strained between William and I.

Anne II: (uncomfortable) Well I wasn't going to pry, but since you brought it up. Staff does talk amoungst themselves, and certain things have gotten back to me.

Margaret: I rarely see him any more. He spends so much time at that social club of his or out on meetings.

Anne II: Meetings about what?

Margaret: He doesn’t tell me. Nether what they’re about or who they’re with.

Anne II: And the club you’re referring to is the same one he goes to with David?

Margaret: Yes, that's the one.

Anne II: Well I think it’s time you two come to some kind of accordance.

Margaret: What do you mean?

Anne II: Think, you two are not just raising a son, but a future King. I was never expected to wear the crown and didn't recieve the same education or preparation as my elder sister. You two have the opportunity to start from scratch. But of course you can’t do that if you both aren’t on the same page.

Margaret: We always put Richie first.

Anne II: A child shouldn’t grow up in a home full of rancor.

Margaret: Maybe you’re right.

Anne II: With time these things tend to sort themselves out.

Anne II: Well I won't keep the two of you. We should all get ready for dinner soon.

completed refs for the terrible trio! i got to finish this one up while testing out streaming in the official discord, which was a real treat! ty to everybody who gave input on these designs as i was reworking them.

Christian: I have never seen two young people perfectly content with making themselves miserable.

Anne II: Yes, well better stay out of it.

Christian: I just hope they realize they need to put the inconsequential garbage behind and focus on what really matter. If not for their sakes, then for poor Richie's.

Anne II: It doesn’t sound like you’re keeping your nose out of it.

Christian: I’m only saying how idiotic it is for him to mope around at that club of his when he has a beautiful wife and a healthy child waiting a home, both begging for attention, but he’d rather spend his days at that social club with David.

Small Boulangère: A book...? Small Boulangère: Oh! Oh, oh, oh, yes!!! From Manon!!! Small Boulangère: Manon is so nice!!! She gave me the book!!! The book with the recipes!!! Small Boulangère: Dad was reading it and now it's mine and I can read it myself!!! Small Boulangère: But it's boring. I want another book, Papa.

Big Boulanger: ...Wait, which book are you talking about, Charline?

Small Boulangère: This one!!!

(She shows you all a very old, very big book. The name seems to have been lost to time.)

Bonnie: ...

Big Boulanger: ... Big Boulanger: I'm so sorry.

Bonnie: ....no it's fine don't worry about it

(You got the OLD COOKING BOOK! Finally.)

(You both find a nice, silent place to talk...)

Bonnie: Okay. Defenitely took longer than it should have. Bonnie: But.... Finally...

(Bonnie has already opened a page, but isn't reading it, closing their eyes instead.)

Bonnie: ...

Loop: "So, uh, aren't you gonna use it for cooking or something?"

Bonnie: ...They said I could keep it until I have to leave Dormont, so I have time, but... Bonnie: ...

(The cooking book you spent so much time trying to find.)

(It seems important to them, but why...?)

(...Wait.)

Loop: (Could it be...?) "Is this the birthday present you were looking for?"

(Bonnie reacts an entire two seconds later.)

Bonnie: Huh? Sorry?

Loop: "You were looking for a birthday present for your sister, right?"

Bonnie: Ah. Bonnie: I suppose I could tell you what is the deal with this book. Bonnie: ...Don't tell Mirabelle, okay?

Bonnie: I'll probably need to explain some backstory first. Bonnie: As you know, I have a sister, Nille. I talked about her quite a lot during our journey. Bonnie: But you might have noticed I never mention any other family I have. Why is that, you might think? Bonnie: ... Our parents... Weren't good to us, to say lightly. Bonnie: I could probably manage it on my own, but I wouldn't be able live with myself if I didn't try to help Nille. Bonnie: So... When I decided I was close enough to being an adult, I ran away from home with her. Bonnie: I don't regret this decision one bit. And I don't want to see them ever again. Bonnie: And that is why I only talk about my sister.

(Huh! You never knew.)

Bonnie: ... Bonnie: This was probably why we grew so close, cherishing and helping eachother despite all the challenges in our lives. There is a silver lining in every cloud, I suppose. Bonnie: And one thing that helped us bond even more was cooking, as you probably know already. Bonnie: When we were both younger we tried to cook various meals, as many different ones as we could find, just for fun. Bonnie: We would cook basically anything we could get the ingredients for. Bonnie: And one day.... We caught wind of a super rare recipe. Bonnie: We didn't know what it was for, or how to find it. It seemed to have been lost to time, actually. Bonnie: But it was told that this recipe was so amazing, that after taking the first glance at it you would think "Yes. This is the recipe." Bonnie: Obviously, we tried to search for it. In every library, in every dining place, all over Bambouche. Searched for it everywhere we could go back then. Bonnie: It wasn't even about the recipe, I think. The search was the thing that got us closer together. Bonnie: We weren't too bummed out to not find it anywhere where we lived. Bonnie: As years went on, this dream kinda.... Lost steam, I guess. We grew up, became too busy for active search, eventually stopped trying almost entirely. Bonnie: ....

(Bonnie looks away and frowns a bit, as if thinking about something.)

Bonnie: And then this whole thing happened. Bonnie: We were one of the first to be hit by the Curse. And Nille wasn't fast enough. Bonnie: While she was being turned into a lifeless statue, she made me promise that I would run as fast as I can. That I would survive. Bonnie: ....

(Bonnie struggles to continue speaking.)

Bonnie: ....Sorry. Bonnie: And you know me. I try to stay positive in every situation. Bonnie: So I thought that I could use this as an opportunity to continue the search. We had to pass a lot of towns, after all. Bonnie: I liked to imagine Nille's surprise if I returned from this journey with the thing that we have been seeking for years. Bonnie: ....It also helped me to distract myself. From thinking about....defeat. Bonnie: Like, if I find this book, I surely have to return safely. We surely will defeat the Scary Lady. Bonnie: .... Bonnie: And now I've found it! Well, you have, actually, I was just kinda there, heh.

Loop: "I couldn't deal with Manon without you."

Bonnie: Oh, right, yeah. Bonnie: But still, it's mostly due to you.

Loop: (!) "Please, it was nothing, teehee."

(You are just happy to help them.)

Loop: (But...) "Why didn't you tell us? We could have helped you!"

Bonnie: ...I for some reason felt like I needed to be the one to find it. Probably was dumb thing to think. Bonnie: I only managed to ask you for help today because this is our last day before the house. Bonnie: Also, you two trying to guess was a bit funny. I don't think some utensils you suggested even exist.

(You chuckle a bit.)

(Yeah, it was pretty funny. You undestand why they wouldn't want Mira to know.)

Bonnie: Hah! Bonnie: Hah. Wow, I feel so much lighter now. Thank you again!

Loop: "For the book?"

Bonnie: Yeaaaah, but also for talking to me.

(Oh!)

Bonnie: Even just telling you about this helped a lot.

(The hood hides you blushing.)

Bonnie: Heh. Bonnie: .... Bonnie: ...You can go now. You probably have other stuff to do, I still need to copy the recipe for myself.

(You smile with your eyes, wave at Bonnie and head back into town.)

i think maybe i might've accidentally speedran the playthrough i have with some of my friends right now so let's hope that completing all of the friendquests before you learn about time craft doesn't mess with the storyline. we've only beaten the king twice total
