Animal Overpass - July 2023 As you travel north on BC-95 you go through several of these overpasses. At first you wonder where the off ramps are and why there is so much foliage on the roadway, but they you realize that these overpasses are not for vehicle traffic. They are for animal traffic. There are fences which help keep the animals from trying to cross the road and every so often there is an animal bridge over the highways. The various animals quickly adapt to this path through the traffic and their migration patterns have been restored. It also makes a nice image. MWM

Lance and Alexandre in St. Moritz
OK so I got another one of those TikToks on my for you page that's like. Aesthetic clips of rich people in St. Moritz in the winter and my brain has now been invaded by the idea of Alexandre taking Lance there for the first time after the 2023 season is over as a way to like. Unplug from all the post-coming-out bullshitTM and GOD I've been thoroughly infected.
OK so Alexandre is old-money rich-Monégasque-family, he's been going there since he was a child. Lance on the other hand is like. His family is country house in the English Midlands with horses rich — If you know what I mean?
So like, Lance knows how to ski and snowboard and stuff, but he's not accustomed to the full on luxury of it all in a place like St. Moritz so he's a bit out of his depth, but Alexandre is so loving and like, making sure he's comfortable and such.
Lance is fine when he's out on the slopes, or they're alone in their rooms, but once they're like, rubbing elbows with rich people at dinners and such — he can do it, has PR training and went to plenty of garden parties and such — but he just doesn't like it, makes him uncomfortable. Alexandre always has a reassuring hand on his elbow or gives him a reassuring smile or squeeze of his hand to help him though.
Eventually as the week is ending, Lance is much more comfortable, and I think one of the big things that helps him get out of his shell is Alexandre knowing about his love for horses (Learned that when they were staying with his family before & after Silverstone) makes sure to get them VIP passes to all the snow polo and white turf horse races on the lake and Lance just comes alive chatting with all the people he was uncomfortable before and just starts Lancesplaining a bunch of stuff.
I think they go to a gala at an art museum one of the nights and after a bit Lance starts getting a bit overwhelmed from people and the two of them disappear off into some exhibit they probably aren't allowed to be in, and just have a really cute moment together looking at art.
Oh! Also, Vincent and Helene Belmont (Vincent's Girlfriend) are with them as well and like, most of the hostility between Lance and Vincent is gone at this point, but they still have a bit of snippy chatter, but it's mostly friendly now, but I can totally see there being a MomentTM meanwhile Alexandre and Helene are just bonding over how pretty the scenery is or how shit their fathers can be. I also have this idea nagging at my brain of the 4 of them staying at the Fairmont Banff Springs in Canada before or after the race in 2024 (Sidenote, if you've never seen it, it's so pretty)
TL;DR I have so many ideas about this brain rotting my head, and I'll put them all into a fic eventually when I have the time and energy, but alas for now you get crumbs.

Day 16
With huge apologies for getting way behind again! This was another touring day, this time from Banff to Calgary.
First official stop (after a bonus stop at the Cascade Gardens that I visited yesterday) was a ride up the Sulphur Mountain gondola for some beautiful views over Banff.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is smoke haze on the horizon from forest fires in BC.
Tumblr media
A bunch of people on my tour stayed in that huge hotel last night - the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, just in front of Bow Falls.
Speaking of the falls, that was our next stop and we arrived just as a rafting group was setting of down the rapids.

(Adore those water colours!)
We took a drive around to Surprise Corner for views across the river (and the falls) back towards the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel.
Tumblr media
Then a lengthy lunch stop in Banff before getting back on the bus for a drive around the Lake Minnewanka Loop road. (Sorry about the UFOs and reflections off the bus windows in some photos.)

And from there it was all highway to Calgary.
I only had the one afternoon to spend in Calgary, so I did the 5 block walk to the Calgary Tower, stopping in front of the Bow Building for this sculpture.

The curvy glass building on the right is the Bow building. The face statue is hidden behind the Hyat's blue roof. The flat brick coloured rectangle building to the right of the Bow is where I stayed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lots of smoke haze on the horizon, but you can see the tower for the ski jump events from the 1988 Winter Olympics!
Tumblr media
View to the Saddledome and Stampede Park, home of the annual Calgary Stampede (rodeo, exhibition, festival), which had been held a few weeks before.
Tumblr media
The Bow River with the Calgary Zoo on the far bank, and Fort Calgary on the near one.
Such a short time to explore here! And if I can, I'd like to come back for the Stampede one day!

Flat Top Mountains - July 2023 Not all mountain tops are peaks. These very flat-topped mountains are also on BC-95 between Fairmont Hot Springs and Banff. The erosion patterns in the cliff faces give the image an interesting look. MWM
