Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings: You’ll Be Lonely
You’ll Be Lonely on Amazon Prime Music
It’s funky Friday! Continuing my focus on the music of 2014, Give The People What They Want by Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings is the best retro soul album of the year. The formula that Jones and the band follow for this release is the same as for all their recordings – old school soul, gut bucket funk, and…
monki used to be the weird girl but not quite weird enough to go thrifting store but now they just do normie shit for people who think they're weird girls and it somehow looks even worse than h&m, but once in a while they make something that just pops off and so I have to check their catalogue at least once in a year just to see if they accidentally made something good on accident
Hi, Sam. Um I new to the fandom and was wondering what uptown funk has to do with it. I have been seeing a lot of post but I don't understand the connection. By chance can you explain it? If not is okay. Um, thank you, I hope you have a nice day.
Hiya Lovely,
So Uptown Funk was a Larrie anthem in 2015. The song came out in late 2014 and everyone and their mother loved it. It was fun, funky and had some great lines. It wasn't until February of 2015, however, that it was adopted by the Larries. On February 4th, we got a sighting of Louis and Harry together at the airport in LA, heading to Sydney, Australia, for the beginning of the OTRA tour dates. They were alone, none of the other boys were on this flight with them.
Louis and Harry both trended together for 24 hours and during the 14-hour flight to Sydney, Larries rejoiced since they hadn't been allowed to do this together for a long time, especially in recent years. During the flight, we began to adapt Uptown Funk memes and jokes regarding what has come to be known as Lairport 1.0. Some of the memes centered on the lyrics of Uptown Funk.
We went ham on having fun and making Uptown Funk memes, and that was before they even landed in Sydney. It got more insane when they landed and we got the picture confirming they had been flying together and may have joined the Mile High Club. This image changed lives in 2015. Because not only did we get complete confirmation that they had traveled together but Harry's shirt was ripped, something you can see in the pics above, was not the case.
Harry went out the front while Louis left the back of the airport. In the Harry picture, you can see more of the rips in his shirt, this lead to the joke of them joining or rejoining the Mile High Club while flying to Sydney. Which they both technically confirmed being a part of later in the year while at Jonathan Ross. The Uptown Funk memeing didn't end there though. On February 7th during the first OTRA concert the boys covered Uptown Funk, something that had been a joke to the Larries prior to the concert. All of us giggling about whether they would cover it, basically confirming that they were aware of our memeing. It was a great time and a lovely couple of days in the fandom.

The Left-Handed Booksellers of London by Garth Nix (2020-2023)
In a slightly alternate London in 1983, Susan Arkshaw is looking for her father, a man she has never met. Crime boss Frank Thringley might be able to help her, but Susan doesn't get time to ask Frank any questions before he is turned to dust by the prick of a silver hatpin in the hands of the outrageously attractive Merlin.
Merlin is a young left-handed bookseller (one of the fighting ones), who with the right-handed booksellers (the intellectual ones), are an extended family of magical beings who police the mythic and legendary Old World when it intrudes on the modern world, in addition to running several bookshops.
Susan's search for her father begins with her mother's possibly misremembered or misspelt surnames, a reading room ticket, and a silver cigarette case engraved with something that might be a coat of arms.
Merlin has a quest of his own, to find the Old World entity who used ordinary criminals to kill his mother. As he and his sister, the right-handed bookseller Vivien, tread in the path of a botched or covered-up police investigation from years past, they find this quest strangely overlaps with Susan's. Who or what was her father? Susan, Merlin, and Vivien must find out, as the Old World erupts dangerously into the New.
