Analysis of EDFA Fiber Amplifier
EDFA fiber amplifier, also known as erbium-doped fiber amplifier, is a major breakthrough in optical fiber communication technology because it can directly amplify weak optical signals without going through the optical-electrical-optical conversion process. Besides, what do you know about EDFA fiber amplifiers? Many people may answer "No". It doesn't matter if you don't understand. This article will analyze the EDFA fiber amplifier from the following aspects to give you a deeper understanding of it.
Why use EDFA high power amplifier modules?
There are many different bands in the optical fiber transmission process, such as C-band (1530nm-1560nm) and L-band (1560nm-1600nm). Different bands have different wavelengths, and communication will be affected. Therefore, it is necessary to amplify the span of the optical fiber link. Only the band channel can ensure the normal communication effect.
EDFA high power amplifier modules just meet this need. It can use residual fiber as a gain medium to amplify optical signals and amplify a wide wavelength range (1500nm-1600nm), enough to amplify the data channels with the highest data rates. This feature can play a greater role in the WDM multi-channel optical transmission system, and therefore has become an indispensable part of the WDM system.
EDFA Fiber Amplifier Advantages
In addition to the optical-electrical-optical signal conversion process mentioned above, the EDFA fiber amplifier also has the following advantages:
The gain of the EDFA fiber amplifier is high. The gain value of the fiber amplifier is one of the important parameters. The gain of a good fiber amplifier can reach 33dB, while the gain of the EDFA fiber amplifier is about 30~40dB, which has a higher gain.
The noise figure of the Optical fiber amplifier for sell is small. The Optical fiber amplifier for sell can spontaneously radiate noise, so its noise index is smaller than the general one, generally 4~7dB.
Bandwidth of Optical fiber amplifier for sells. At the wavelength of 1550nm, the Optical fiber amplifier for sell has a frequency bandwidth of 20~40nm, which can perform multi-channel transmission and increase the transmission capacity.
Optical fiber amplifier for sells have low losses. The working wavelength of the Optical fiber amplifier for sell is just the best band (1500~1600nm) for optical fiber communication. This band belongs to the lowest loss area, so the loss of the Optical fiber amplifier for sell is low and the transmission distance is relatively long.
Application of High Power PM Optical Amplifier
1. Fiber Optic Cabling System
2. FTTX, FTTH
3. Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) Optical Communication Networks
4. Video Optical Transmission System and CATV
5. Long-distance transmission of analog & digital CATV optical signals
Conclusion
1U 1550nm PM Optical Amplifier EDFA is a high stability output power EDFA. The stability Pump Laser and unique ATC (automatic temperature control) and AGC (automatic gain control) circuit are employed in it as the key components to ensure the high stability and reliability of output power. The unique optical circuit design ensures the excellent optical characteristics. The high stability and high precision MPU system are employed to ensure the control adjustment and display are intelligent and user-friendly.
Professional design GFF (gain flattening filter) with excellent optical path design make flatness and noise reach the best optimization. It can provide 40~80 channels, and flatness above 35nm.
The optical circuit is designed especially for digital optical fiber communication system including:
(1) lower noise figure
(2) the high output booster and high sensitivity pre-amplifier improve the system loss budget
(3) Broad input power range and output power is adjustable easily.
The design of dual Power Mixed and hot swap provides longer MTBF. Also, the power system can be backed up.

Overhead Fiber Optic Cable: Installation Method and Requirement
Overhead fiber optic cable is suitable for long-distance lines and dedicated network optical cable lines or some local special sections. It provides high tensile strength, good performance of mechanical and temperature, and low-cost installation. In this article, you’ll be learning about overhead fiber optic cable and its installation method and requirement.
What is Overhead Fiber Optic Cable?
Overhead fiber optic cable also known as aerial fiber optic cable is fiber optic cable installed on poles. The overhead fiber optic cable uses the original overhead wire and pole infrastructure. This overhead laying method can save construction costs and shorten the construction period. Overhead fiber optic cable is mainly used for secondary trunk lines, core networks, metropolitan area networks (MAN), access networks, FTTH feeders and distribution and is suitable for areas with flat terrain and small undulations. In addition, overhead fiber optic cable is vulnerable to typhoons, ice, floods, and other natural disasters, but also vulnerable to external forces and its mechanical strength weakening and other effects. Overhead fiber optic cables ( like figure 8 armored type) do not require a messenger wire during installation.
Installation Method
There are two methods to install overhead fiber optic cables: the moving reel method and the stationary reel method.
Moving reel installation method: is normally adopted when a cable reel trailer or aerial lift truck can be moved along the pole line and there are no obstructions to prevent raising the cable. It is a one-pass operation without requiring the use of cable blocks or pulls lines, saving time for the whole deployment.
2. Stationary reel method: is typically used when the route is not fully accessible by support vehicles. The cable is pulled into place from a stationary reel located at one end of the section run, and supported by temporary hardware. Once the cable is in position, it is transferred to the permanent support hardware.
Installation Requirements
The distance between poles of overhead lines is 25-40 meters in the urban area, 40-50 meters in the suburbs, and no more than 67 meters in other sections.
Overhead fiber optic cable should adopt a galvanized steel strand with the specification of 7/2.2mm as the suspension wire. For armored fiber optic cable, a steel strand with 7/2.0mm or /1.8mm can be used as well.
When comes to the sag of the aerial fiber optic cable, the elongation during the erection process and when it is subjected to the maximum load after erection should be taken into consideration.
A proper and stretched overhead fiber optic cable should be left on poles.
Erect the poles according to the design requirements, put the hanging wires, or use the original poles to renovate to meet the specified requirements.
The hanging distance of the optical cable hook is required to be 50 cm with an allowable deviation of no more than ±3 cm. The overhead fiber optic cable clamps should be evenly hung and the hook pallets are complete. It is also crucial to choose different sizes of hook models for the outer diameter of various aerial fiber optic cables.
Conclusion
Overhead fiber optic cable solution is typically faster and less expensive to deploy than digging, particularly for backbone fiber. It provides a cost-effective solution for many users that consider overhead fiber optic cable deployments. Sun Telecom provides overhead fiber optic cable to the global market. Loose-Tube and Tight-Buffer Cable Application of FTTH
Loose-Tube and Tight-Buffer Cable Application of FTTH
by http://www.fiber-mart.com
FTTH makes use of Fiber Optic technology to enhance communication for households. FTTH stands for Fiber to the Home, and many experts believe that FTTH cable will soon replace the traditional copper cables. There are various other elements of FTTH. FTTH Flat Drop Cable is generally also known as indoor cable. Other elements of the technology include instrumentation…

Jio Giga Fiber: Why I’m still not excited about Mr Ambani’s new ambitious plan!
Exactly two years after disrupting Indian Telecom in Sep 2016, Reliance Industries is now getting ready to disrupt the Indian FTTX market, currently dominated by various leading ISPs, Cable TV providers and others, including telcos in few pockets. The market is already gaga over the launch (Aug 15) of Jio Giga Fiber, post announcement by RIL Chairman Mr Mukesh Ambani in AGM earlier this month, but as of now, there are no further official details available about ‘Giga Fiber’ devices, plans and locations, post announcement.
Despite all the fanfare and hoopla surrounding GigaFiber, we have to wait to see how the market responds to Mr Amabani’s newest bet. Visibly, I do see market already responding with price cuts, esp. ISP, Cable TV providers, and there are reasons for that. Last week, my ISP in Mumbai (a local one), offered arguably the best offer to me on unlimited plans to renew for six months, and I could see, why he must be worried about if I don’t choose to renew with him.
Leaving all speculations behind, I still don’t see much potential to RIL’s newest bet. There are reasons for that.
First and foremost reason is that according to statistics, FTTX (Fiber To The Home/Curb/Building/Floor) is quite small/niche market in India. I mean yes, it has real potential to expand, and which is why Jio is betting on it, but on the ground, FTTX is small with a high potential game. Question is how many homes have Fiber getting in their living rooms as of today and how many homes will make to Fiber in coming months in India?
According to statistics and public domain information, India has only 1.25 million FTTH connections as on date. Compare this with Jio’s juggernaut on wireless subscribers addition in past two years. Since launch (Sep 2016), Jio added as many as 200 million plus subscribers to its wireless services, which is roughly around 9-10 million subscribers addition per month, which has entirely take the steam out of the competitive landscape in Indian Telecom Industry. Can Jio replicate the same pace of subscriber addition for Giga Fiber? I doubt it.
Two reasons I’m a bit sceptical about it. First, FTTX is entirely on Wire connection aka Fiber connectivity (until the last mile). Second price consumer has to pay for it. Both could be quite a challenge to overcome, at least initially.
FTTX is an exact complement of RIL’s Wireless Bet, which some says paid off already. What I do see that FTTX is a logically appropriate step for Jio to take, given the fact that, wireless subscribers additions slowing down and they might reach to flat curve soon. Second, if you have to grow the data consumption, you need to get closer to the subscriber, which is exactly the game is. Moreover, FTTX market is still quite small, there’s enormous potential to tap in, and that’s where Jio is betting.
Another reason is the lack of enticing content on Jio platform overall. With the launch of Jio services, Mr Ambani announced the bouquet of services, including Jio TV, Jio Magazines etc., and if you read between the lines, Jio’s trying to tap untapped Smart TV market to make it pervasive as a medium of communication. Combined with Wi-Fi Services, it would surely help in consuming more data, but I still believe lack of content, combined with Jio and Giga Fiber, again doesn’t make a whole lot of difference in the entire gamut of consumption.
Let’s take an example. With the recent clash of Amazon’s Prime Day Sale and Flipkart’s Challenger sale, both competitors might have sold more than 200 million plus items in short span of three-four days. As per some reports, the average consumption either on Amazon or Flipkart is more than Rs 5000 (> $100), which is a far cry from those who believe that online selling doesn’t dent the retail business in India. How much ARPU Jio has as on today? Around Rs 300 (per month) or even less. If we have to do simple math, it takes around 18 months approx for Jio to earn the same amount of money from the same subscriber, who spent $100 or more in the span of few days. Could they match the revenues then?
Moral of the story is ‘Content’ still rules the game, and if you don’t have content, you are merely an infra provider, who takes nothing (or very little) back home out of the revenue earned per subscriber. Unless you build infra with content, it would be hard to sustain the revenues. Only making infra without content won’t change the game much.
I don’t see Jio’s Content is challenging anywhere to Amazon, Flipkart, WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, NetFlix, Instagram, Twitter or likes of that. If you are riding Jio Fiber or Jio Wireless Network to reach out to your friends on Social media, or Content providers, your pie remains small. I see RIL’s push to build better network infra is precisely opposite to that global trend, where likes of Facebook, Google or even Amazon built content first and now expanding in making network infra space.
Some might say that India is different. Unless you build so call ‘Information Highway’, content won’t rule, but that’s exactly is happening now. Jio might gain by winning against the competitors in FTTX (or Telecom) space, but overall, it won’t make a dent in the universe.
There’s another bet hidden inside the Fiber bet, which is AI and IoT bet, which is quite lucrative, but I don’t see the much credible information available about it (except few videos and open letters) so it would be hard to justify the bet. Even Jio bets on AI or IoT, in the end, content will rule, as we all are seekers of information and not infrastructure.
If you wish to be in Fortune 100 or Fortune 50/10 club, in the technology world, you build content and not infra (or not only infra). If you create content but won’t focus on growing the pie, infra alone won’t pay off. For those who are at the top of the content game, it won’t make much difference. Building better information highway is indeed going to consume more content and in a way also going help growing the content providers without spending a penny on it. I see there’s no choice to that, but equally, I haven’t seen a telecom company becoming a content provider making a difference to the world.
Tomorrow if Jio or Giga Fiber helps to build next Content along with better infra, I would love to see it happening in India, and I would be the first one to join the stream.
