It’s another fantastic Friday on the farm and we are very happy to bring you the first round of September recs from our friends!
Enjoy your weekend and give these fics a read from your favorite cozy spot. Be sure to leave the authors some love!
====================
Ain’t justice blind (marchtwentyfour) “One of the most underrated & best AUs i have ever read from the D&P fandom. The characters are fleshed out, the foundation for David & Patrick's relationship was laid out so believable it felt so earned when they finally got together. This fic also explored them navigating their relationship, growing into it, and the very satisfying happy ending they got. I love LOVE this fic and i re-read at least every quarter?”
Birthday spanking (@lisamc-21) “This story exemplifies the perfect one-shot… a potentially humiliating meeting of our favorite co-workers at a club morphs into a blazing hot (yet tender) canon-divergent celebration of David’s birthday, just a few hours outside of SC. Lisamc21’s words paint the scene beautifully and efficiently, and her depiction of anxious sex god David and take-charge Patrick is A+!“
The fundamental things (@goodiecornbread) “This Mutt/Jake fic—yes, trust me, just try it—is so rich, thoughtful, and fun. Mutt needs a place to sleep and Jake's got a bed. Magic ensues. There's lovely insight into their characters, some Schitt family backstory, quiet hobbies on winter nights, interactions with other Schitt's Creek residents, and lots of understated affection and intimacy.”
How long till we reach the door? (@lizzie-bennetdarcy) “This is everything you could ask for in a one shot: sweet, hot, funny, tropey (in the best way) plus David escaping down a fire escape!”
I’ve never known anyone quite like you before (orphan_account) “I'm not even sure how to describe this piece. It's just so fucking beautiful. It's a different style but it's a masterpiece in 250 words. I beg you to read it.”
Keeping us tied and true (@whetherwoman) “This fic was a huge surprise for me - there's not much omegaverse in this Fandom and I was quite wary of it but the tags won me over - it is very different from what you might be expecting from a standard omegaverse fic and I was so glad I gave it a try. It's tender and *very* hot and beautifully written. Plus did I mention also: fake relationship and only one bed. What more could you ask for?”
Music moves him (@smallumbrella369) “Wow. Listen to this music and read this fic of Patrick trying to tell David what he meant by "slow", and how he makes him feel, like music under his skin. Phew!”
Polaris (strangeluvz) “This is a super-angsty, post-breakup David/ Patrick fic, and it’s just so perfectly on point in tone, characterization, and atmosphere. I can’t get it out of my head!”
The start of something good (@khughes830) “It's sweet, and I love the way they gravitate towards each other from the very beginning. It's the knowing that they both carry. Also, everybody gets involved and it makes it fun. Cora Brewer and Ellie Mullens are such good fun!”
Time until the end of time (@ships-to-sail, @yourbuttervoicedbeau)
“absolute perfection. iconic. unparalleled.”
“I honestly don't understand how this isn't being recc'ed everywhere by everyone?? It is stunning and heartbreaking and perfect and I feel like everyone is sleeping on it. Every single new chapter blew me away and the ending...I won't spoil it but the authors absolutely knocked it out of the park.”
“It was so beautifully written and so unique and creative. A very different way for our David and Patrick to meet and fall in love, and also an exploration of one’s life and a look at how we have affected people in our life. Even if we don’t realize it until it’s examined. Sometimes too late but to still know the love is there.”
“Everything. Such a creative concept. So much love and care was put into it. It’s a beautiful exploration of how David became the person he is, seen through the eyes of current David (looking back at himself, how he felt then and how he feels now about it) and Patrick. Every chapter was an emotional whirlwind in the best way. It was all just so, so beautifully done. I am in awe.“

Happy Friday, everyone! The coven is so excited to bring you the first Friends of Farm Witches Fic Rec List!
We got enough recs from our friends that we decided to split them up so you can look forward to more community recs soon! The witches really enjoyed seeing your suggestions and comments on why these fics were faves of yours. Please enjoy these recs and be sure to give the creators some love!
* * * * * * * * * *
Back to the drawing board (mycleverusername) “I love this. It's funny, and I love the internet thirsting after this kind of nerdy Patrick, and well, just everything about it. Even if it is kind of stressful to read, having to relive the election a little bit.”
Behind the scenes of “The Barbecue” (@reasonandfaithinharmony) **GIFSET** “This gifset excellently shows Patrick's reaction to Rachel showing up at the barbecue in a way that you don't get to see in the show. It's easy to miss the subtleties of how Patrick reacts in the show, but with the behind the scenes footage it's clear just how talented he is!”
Dancing beneath your skin (houdini74/@mostlyinthemorning) “The tattoos are such a great idea.”
Favored Nations (@blueink3) “An epic AU that I've reread a million times. All original characters are excellently written and stay true to themselves. The story itself is amazing. I felt for Patrick coming out under such pressure. The entire winter, when outrageous fortune was updated every Sunday, it made my week. I looked forward to it more than is healthy but the story helped me through a tough time and I can never thank the author enough.”
Finding David (sonlali/@landofsonlali) “Because it brings up all the soft fresh feelings of brand new husbands moving in together. Its fluffy and funny, domestic and sweet, plus it has cuddles and kisses. What more could you ask for?”
Home sweet home (Poutini/@cheesecurdsgravyandfries) “Poutini writes some of the best smut in the fandom with the perfect amounts of humour, creativity, and sweetness. She never misses! This fic of David & Patrick officially christening every room of their new house would have stood well enough on its own, but the addition of the visuals of their hilariously checked off list just makes it that much better.”
How easy it could be (@maxbegone) “Patrick and Stevie as BFFs? Slow burn? Coffee? What's not to love?”
I carry these heart-shapes only to you (@ladyflowdi, @ships-to-sail) “I rarely see this fic recommended but it is so good. It's an historical AU set in Paris at the tail end of WW2 which might be why it gets less traction. It sat on my marked for later list for a while as I'm not usually one for historical fic but I'm so glad I got around to reading it and have re-read it 5 or 6 times in the last 2 years. Lines and scenes from this fic live in my head rent-free. It is so beautifully written (the amount I could gush on the epilogue alone!) David arrives in Paris after it's liberation from the Germans to help Alexis get out of a Stavros hole, only to encounter Captain Patrick Brewer one night in a GI bar on 7 days leave before a final mission. The story of how they fall in love (because OF COURSE they fall in love) is beautiful, the plot is great, the characterisations are spot on, bits of cannon are wound throughout so well. I simply cannot recommend this highly enough.“
Let me paint you a picture (houdini74/@mostlyinthemorning) “What do I love about it? The fact that I didn’t see the twist coming, the first time I read the fic. The angst, the details about painters, the twist, have made this fic, a comfort fic that I keep coming back to read.”
Rescue mission (@apothecarose) “"Rescue Mission" is funny, unique, and completely brilliant! David and Stevie are aliens tasked with monitoring the doomed situation on Earth, and break protocol by attempting to rescue Patrick - if only they can figure out how to beam him up!”
Rooting for you (@thesleepyskipper) “A short, two fic series with Patrick the plant nursery owner and David looking for a new vendor. Tons of sweet flirting, a first date and kiss, bonus Ronnie trolling, and so many plants. Just a fun, cute, different AU take that deserves some love.”
Work of heart (iola17/@beaiola) “I love to see David creating his own works of art and breathing life into them. This work is about a new craft a lot of people won't know much about- the art of pyrography or wood burning. It's not an easy craft to learn but thankfully David has his family and friends there for him every step of the way.”
Yahrzeit (therapychicken) “I love this fic. I know it’s a hard sell because of the warning and the tags, but please consider reading it. It is sad, but in that loving, quiet, thoughtful way. I love it for many reasons—it taught me a little, it made me think, it affected how I look at canon a bit, and it pulled at my heart. I have thought about it consistently and achingly in the past nine months since I first read it. Trust me, you can trust this author—reading it will hurt, but it will be worth it.”

Oh, don’t mind us, we’re just carving up our pumpkins and spiking the apple cider. We’ve been busy preparing some spooky treats for the little goblins and ghouls around town. Lil’ Rollie’s costume is supposed to be a real showstopper this year from what we’ve heard.
We hope you sit back and enjoy these community recs from our farm witch friends with some of your favorite candies and leave the authors some love!
+ + + + + + + + +
Feels like home (@thegrayness) **RPF** “In this absolutely lovely fic, Dan is a novelist whose research on small towns puts him in close proximity with the charming Noah. Complete with Hallmark vibes and just the right amount of pining, this fic is perfect for anyone looking to get in their holiday feels. It's sweet, fun, and absolutely worth a read (or two)!!”
Fifteen hundred miles (morehuman) “This is the one that started it all for me. The one I stumbled upon after falling down a Schitt’s Creek internet rabbit hole and found myself on AO3. The one that made me fall in love with this concept of taking characters that I had fallen in love with and placing them in different situations and have it work. It showed me there were all these people in the world creating unique, compelling and brilliantly written stories. This is my favorite fic for so many reasons, but mostly because of everything it brought to me. New friends, a renewed love of reading, along with reawakening my own creativity. I know it’s already well-known and well-loved but I felt the need to share how much it means to me.”
Halloween whiskey (@missgeevious) “A fine Halloween fic. I love the way this writer is so concise, creating this little gem with nary a wasted word. A tight 5K that's both sweet and scorching hot. Come for Patrick's "do-over" in the beginning, linger for the intense heat in the middle, and leave with the image of Patrick's adjusted costume firmly planted in your brain.”
Into a million pieces (rosieboo98) “This is one of my go to fics when I am looking to read angst. It brings me to tears every time. But then it gives our boys their happy ending. I really appreciate the fact that once they get their happy ending, the story does not end. Instead, the author gives a few chapters of them building their new relationship after it has been so broken. Highly recommend if you need a good angst with happy endings!”
Language of Love (pandorasdaydream) “If you’ve ever wondered what happened between the episodes, these series are for you. Such attention to detail and explanations for David and Patrick’s thoughts and behaviors. I loved exploring this series.”
The last first kiss - a series of alternate first kisses (poutini/@cheesecurdsgravyandfries) “This piece eighteen alternate “last first kisses” that all take place before the S3:13 grad night kiss we all know and love, hits a bit differently. It’s soft, sweet, funny, and a wonderful bit of evidence that David and Patrick will be together in every universe- sometimes sooner than you’d think. 11/10 would read again and again and again— and you should too!”
Smoke gets in your eyes (@this-will-be-our-year) “This Mad Men (remix) AU is freakin gold!!! Its set in the 60s yet its SO David & Patrick. I cried, laughed, and fell in love with the characters. I'm not even kidding when I say that a fluffy sequel where we see them as "husbands" or a present time fast forward where they marry legally is in my DAILY MANIFESTATIONS. So, so good!”
Stab: The Elmsboro Murders (@dinnfameron) “I am assuming that everyone knows the quintessential October fic “My Heart is Like a Haunted House” by dinnfameron, so I don’t need to tell you to go read that. Right? Okay, well, after that one, check out another seasonally appropriate one by the same author, “Stab: The Elmsboro Murders.” You’ll love this flirty, lighthearted meet-cute based on a slasher movie. Dinnfameron is such a clever wordsmith—weaving together canon lines in unexpected ways, capturing the tone of a detective story, and including plenty of affectionate and true-to-character banter. The point of view alternates, and the parts in journalist David’s head are particularly fun and sweet. So don’t be scared of this little horror fic. It might kill you, but only in the best, most metaphorical ways.”

Happy Friday! The coven is thrilled to bring you another round of recs from our farm witch friends. We love reading the reasons you’re so fond of these fics and we’re so happy to share them with all of you. There were enough on the list that we’ll have more from you (for you!) next Friday, too.
Give these recs a read and leave the authors some love! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
D/P Drabble Project (@seadeepy) “I adore these little stories. They form a series of fourteen drabbles, one for each of the episodes Patrick is in during seasons 3 and 4. Seadeepy is so good at packing feelings and revelation into a few words. If you need just a small rush of dopamine in the form of early relationship pining or fluff, here’s the place.”
Hold me like you’ll never let me go (@mooodlighting) “This is gorgeous. An incredibly intimate, beautifully crafted piece about David and Patrick being stuck at a snowed-in airport. The characterisation is lovely, the butterflies and gradual taking down of barriers to reveal themselves, doubly so. It's such a comfort fic.”
Lucky Thirteen (B13) (aworldofdreams/@seldom-what-i-seem) “Short and sweet and very sexy snippets about all the ways that David and Patrick could meet. With the occasional little bit of help from their friends! I love how the author writes David and Patrick - fun, flirty, sexy. These snippets made me smile and laugh and melt at this pair of lovely soft, sexy guys.”
Marriage and Life (@legalgal421) “It explores P&D’s married life through fluff, smut, and just being totally gone for each other.“
A sprinkle of cocoa powder (houdini74/@mostlyinthemorning) “Patrick bakes. What more needs to be said? No, really, this is a delightful confection. David and Patrick’s flirtation? Swoon-worthy. The scenes of Patrick baking are almost as tantalizing as the love scenes. This is a beautifully written ‘coffee shop’ fic with only the slightest whiff of angst and lots of sexy sweetness.”
Such great heights (@likerealpeopledo-on-ao3 ) “I love that Patrick shows some vulnerability and messiness while David remains steady. It is a bit of a role reversal while staying fully in character. Also, the banter is soooo good and the dates are creative, warm, and cozy. A perfect long story to dig into and roll around in.”
Turn down the lights, turn down the bed (hudders-and-hiddles/@wild-aloof-rebel) “Damn. Intimate, sexy, and utterly heartbreaking, before sinking into a beautiful ending. This is an incredible take on a one-night-only friends-with-benefits scenario and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. The sex scene is one of my favourites in the fandom. Just gorgeous writing.”
Under summer skies (@weathereyehorizon) “Totally underrated baseball AU. The alternating POVs are so clever and the story feels fresh and fun for a sports fic, and there's a fun little twist, too that I love.”
The way to go home (@obsessedwithdavrick) “Patrick backpacks through Europe to find himself and finds David along the way. It’s beautifully written and the vibe is somehow dreamlike.”

Cheers to the weekend, friends!
The coven loves sharing these recs from our community. We’re making this a monthly feature, so you’ll have more opportunities to tell us about your favorite fics and highlight new authors!
Check out this week’s Friends of Farm Witches recs and leave them some love!
+ + + + + + +
Dismantle, repair (itakethewords) **WIP** “I love the premise of childhood friends and the outside the box elements while still keeping some familiar elements too.”
Everything we need (@samwhambam, @sparklesmagiclightlove) “I’m recommending these two together because they both take place in a 19th century frontier AU and have a similar feel. Our boys fall in love slowly and quietly in a world that doesn’t blink at same-sex love but otherwise feels true for people who love historical fiction. They’re both very soft and beautifully written. (See also recommendation for Falling slowly)”
Falling slowly (@thedidipickles) “I’m recommending these two together because they both take place in a 19th century frontier AU and have a similar feel. Our boys fall in love slowly and quietly in a world that doesn’t blink at same-sex love but otherwise feels true for people who love historical fiction. They’re both very soft and beautifully written. (See also recommendation for Everything We Need)”
Going down (@concannonfodder) “Oh my. David and Patrick start out stuck in an elevator on New Year's, and it just evolves into such an intense and thoughtful story. It's such a lovely depiction of them coming together with all their baggage and finding something special in each other. The world-building is top-notch and the characterisation lovely. At times heartbreaking, funny, hot, it's also written with a love of New York sewn into it. One of my favourites.”
In morte veritas (@missgeevious) “In Morte Veritas is a breath-stealing roller coaster ride. The emotional arc is a stunner; by turns sorrowful, hilarious, tender and steamy, and triumphant. This writer is an excellent storyteller, their world building is so solid you will forget you’re being told a story, you’re just in it. This is inspired by the rom-com, Last Holiday, but you don’t need to know the movie at all to enjoy the fic. I honestly think it’s leagues better than the movie! (no shade to Queen La)”
My heart is like paper (yours is like a flame) (@smallumbrella369) “This is something so tangible about everything in this fic. The paint, the music, the descriptions--I can picture it all. It's so well written, powerful, heartfelt, and very, very sexy.”
Room seven (@ladyflowdi) “This author is one of my favorites. She writes very hot, very hilarious and in character stories. This work is part of the wonderful multi author series The Room(s) Where it Happened. Her chapter is my absolute favorite. It is hilarious, pee in my pants funny. It is extremely scorchingly sexy and it is SO in character, it is one of those rare times in fic, you can hear the actors voices saying the lines. Read the entire series, but spend a little extra time with this explicit masterpiece!”
The snow it melts the soonest (Amanita_Fierce, MoreHuman) “Everything! It’s so beautifully narrated, and the soundscape gives it a real-ness, you feel like you are there in that snowy park with them. There is such beautiful, Heartfelt emotion in this fic. It fills my heart with joy every time I listen to it. It is just so pure and lovely.
The way the fic builds is lovely. The way Patrick’s awareness builds. 💙 And the way David slowly reveals parts of himself to his ‘friend’. 🖤 You just feel so much for David in this fic. I love that it’s pre canon/pre ‘softened’ David: many fics naturally and rightfully portray him as prickly, damaged, etc (so that an early meeting between D and P is just painful and he’s not ready)- but in this one, them ‘meeting’ earlier just works.
This is the first magical realism (?) fic or ANY story I ever read and I was floored by how much I loved it, how much it resonated, and how it made me feel. We all need a little magic in our lives these days ❤️
Finally i want to shine a big, bright spotlight on podficcers. The work and effort and time that goes into a podfic must be incredible, and I wish that the podfics and podficcers would get billions of kudos and millions of comments in return for what they give us! Thank you, you amazing, talented people! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Your creations are much loved and appreciated!”
Witch’s Brew (@hagface) “Witch's Brew is great. David is a witch, Patrick is looking for a love potion... I'll leave it there. It's one of my favorite slow burn SC fics.”
