How did you realize you're plural?

well, we had our first consciously plural experience wherein the now-cohost of the system, em, came to the front, asserted she was fronting, and gave herself a name ten years ago. (that was during the period where em and i had detransitioned, so the name she gave herself then was not em. she's an alter with a deadname! lmao)

then, for the next ten years, there would be instances every so often wherein i was particularly stressed out and em would come to the front, usually to try and manage the situation and calm us down (which is funny because nowadays i'd say em experiences emotions more strongly than i do). during these times, em would insist to everyone she thought she safely could that she was real and an alter.

however, i was deeply ashamed of being plural for a variety of reasons and deeply in denial about it, so immediately after each of these incidents i'd swear that plurality was not the cause of em's behavior but rather these were my actions and it was psychosis from being bipolar (i thought at the time that we were bipolar type 2; this is not actually the case).

this pattern continued for a decade straight, before one day earlier this year when em started fronting in front of our girlfriend, came out to her, and insisted that she and my girlfriend would hold me to not being in denial about being plural anymore. it worked, and we've been out to our friends and online as plural ever since.

one reason that it was hard for me (elise) to accept that em and i are plural is because she and i don't have total dissociative amnesia; to me, em's memories feel like they happened to someone else and are kind of dreamlike to remember. i also may not feel the same way about her experiences as she does (the change in our attitudes and opinions when who's fronting switches can be kind of jarring to experience from the inside). however, i can still recall what she does, and the same is true for em regarding my memories. for a long time, i used this as an excuse to say that there's no way we could possibly be plural. the other reason was that i wasn't in an emotionally secure enough environment to explore our plurality until very recently, so that discouraged me from acknowledging em's existence.

Drugs have little to no effect on student. Briah endocrine systems are so hyperactive that even things like alcohol and caffeine don't effect them. Medical pharmaceuticals don't work on them either. This is why they're so good at synthetimancy as a culture, they have to do all that shit manually.

She could theoretically perform hormone alterations on her own brain to semi-permenantly induce drunkenness, but this runs the risk of trapping yourself a sort of permanent cerebro-chemical autobrewery syndrome. It's hard to manipulate your own hormone receptors if you're permanently artificially drunk.

Im sure there are substances that could effect teacher, but the risks of trying are pretty extreme. I have no idea what could intoxicated a giant single celled organism.

Hot take but I think if you already have your medical marijuana license (in the US) & you're applying for a particular job, that shouldn't automatically disqualify you sight unseen. I'm not trying to roll fat doinks in the lunch room- I just wanna be able to continue medicating without fearing a random drug test & losing a job I actually have the skill set for. It shouldn't matter to you what I do outside of work.. Give people the benefit of the doubt dammit
