Event FAQ!

What is a fandom bingo?

A fandom bingo is an event where you are given a “bingo” card full of prompts, with one free space in the middle. Your challenge / goal is to get five in a row (whether horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) by creating something to “fill” those prompts. 

What counts as a fill?

Anything you have put significant work into creating. There are no minimum requirements for fills for this event. Classically, 500 - 1000 words of fic, 5 - 10 mns of podfic, 8 song playlists, etc, have been minimums of other bingos these mods have run or participated in. However, we just want to encourage you to create things, so if you wrote (for example) a 480 word fic or a perfect drabble (100 words exactly) that you’re proud of, it counts!

What types of creations count for fills?

We cannot think of anything we would not allow; physical art, digital art, crafts, playlists and fanmixes, fic, podfic, moodboards–go off! If you’re curious if something would count, the answer is probably yes, but you are welcome to send an ask to check!

What counts as a “RarePair” for the purposes of this bingo?

We tried to come up with something numerical or statistically based, and in the end, it wasn’t worth the hassle of becoming lawyers about what counted. If it’s a rarepair in your heart, it counts. Please be true to both us and yourself if it is or isn’t; if it’s one of the largest pairings in the fandom, it probably isn’t a rarepair. 

Do all ships have to be monogamous?

Nope! You can do polyamorous ships, we’d welcome it! You can also do gen fics featuring platonic relationships. RarePairs is a catchy way to "market" this, but if you’ve got a creation idea featuring any number of characters interacting who are not the central fandom focus, we want to give  you an excuse to make it! 

Do OCs count?

Absolutely! Go off! We love OCs!

Can I use my creation to fill something for this bingo & also other bingos/events?

Absolutely fine with us! Just make sure you double-check the rules for your other events too. 

Are crossovers allowed?

Absolutely! These mods ship Eowyn (LOTR) / Padme and will likely make at least one fill for that, join us in our chaos! 

Can I use one creation for multiple fills on my card? 

No; with exceptions being: 

If you have a multi-chapter fic, each chapter can be a different fill

If you make 2 pieces of art (ie. fic + art or podfic) they can each be used for one fill even if they’re in the same post. 

If you have another potential exception you can think of, send an ask! We’ll be glad to hear you out.

Can I change prompts?

No, as your card will only be generated based on prompts you have pre-selected, you cannot change any of the prompts on your card. 

When can I get a new card?

If you get a bingo on your first card, you can get another card. You can get up to three (3) cards in this round. You can keep creating off of your first card(s) even if you get second & third ones after achieving a bingo!

Can I keep using my card after the round ends?

Yes, and we’ll keep the collection open so you can still add to it. Depending on if we run another round, we may not continue monitoring the tumblr to reblog / promote, but we’d love it if you kept creating things you were inspired by. 

How to I submit my challenges?

If you post on tumblr, reblog with the tag #starwarsrarepairbingo23 or @ this blog and we'll reblog it! If we miss it, feel free to submit or link us so we can make sure to share it! If you post to AO3, you can also add it to the collection (Star_Wars_Rare_Pair_Bingo)

If there is another round, do I have to create a minimum amount for this bingo to sign up?

Yes, but only one fill of any kind. So long as you’ve created one thing, you’re good! 

(Note: If you did not sign up for round 1, this does not / will not apply!)

What do I win?

The joy of having beat a challenge, and if you want, we’ll post your name with a congratulations banner on this blog and links to your validated bingo submissions.

(We do encourage you to consider the why’s of switching a female character to male when there are so few fleshed-out canon females, but it’s not prohibited.)

❤️ This is an event to create brand new fanworks that celebrate Jason Todd and Stephanie Brown as a couple - whether platonic, romantic, or NSFW. All works must be JaySteph-centric and related to one of the day’s prompts.

💜 This is a ship-friendly, censorship-free event open to all. We will have a very clear tagging system in place for all ships (including side ships) and dark content so that people can filter out what they don’t want to see from the main blog. We truly want the event to be accessible for everyone regardless of their personal tastes or triggers.

❤️ Due to JaySteph’s rarepair status, we don’t allow poly-JaySteph ships in order to keep the event’s focus exclusively on Jason and Steph’s relationship with each other. However, you are welcome to use poly relationships in side ships. DC Make It Poly Week is a great July event where you can feature all your JayStephPoly ships while spreading the JaySteph agenda love.

❤️ Work for JaySteph Weekend must be brand new, however you can combine it with any other fandom events if possible. For example, you can choose an August Year of the OTP prompt AND a JSW prompt to use in the same work, or combine a fandom Bingo fill with a JSW prompt. You can’t drop JSW work early, however, so hang onto it until our own event dates!

FAQ

This is meant to be a collection of answers to various asks; if you have a question check here to see if it’s been clarified! New answers will be added here if new questions come up.

Q: Is (insert ship) a rarepair? A: If it has under 400 fics on ao3 it qualifies! We listed the ships that have 400 or more here. If you believe a ship has been left off that list let us know and we’ll check!

Q: A ship recently made 400(+). Does the fill I started for it still count? A: Yes! The list is set for this year, so no new ships will be added to it for now. However, if future events are hosted they will be added to the list and no longer count. 

Q: What if the a ship in the 400(+) group is mostly a background ship? A: Because it is so hard/tedious to find out what is a background pairing for now we are treating anything with 400+ fics as non-rare based on the idea that, even if it’s a background pair, that many fics including it displays a certain level of popularity/commonness within the fandom in general.

Q:Can a non-rarepair be mentioned in a fic? Or used as a sidepair? A:That is fine! As long as a rarepair is the main focus the sidepairs can be from the non-rare list.

Q: Boruto charters don’t count towards ships, but can I do a ship with characters that are from the original series set in the Boruto era? (ex. hanabi/konohamaru) A: Yes!

Q: Can we fill out multiple boards or switch between them? A:Yes! While a bingo is the intended goal, you can fill out whichever squares, on whichever boards, in whatever order you desire. As long as a fill meets the rules and is properly tagged and submitted it will be accepted.

Q: What counts as bingo? A: For this event bingo will be any combination of five in a row. Up-and-down, side-to-side, or diagonal.

Q: So the goal is to get a bingo on any of the three boards? A: The desired goal is to achieve a bingo on whichever board you choose, but people can participate even if they don’t think they’ll make bingo. 

Q: Is there a minimum word count needed? What type of fills are accepted? A: Any type of fill is accepted, not just fics, and as long as you include the pair and the prompt there is no word requirement. The only criteria is that the fill includes a rarepair and the prompt of the square it is meant for.

Q: Where can we post? A: You can posts fills on whatever platform you desire and just link it on tumblr, as long as you properly tag it and say what the link is to. If for some reason you cannot post the link/fill to your own blog you can submit it here!

Q: How do we tag on ao3? A: You can add the information on which square you are filling and anything else that would be tagged on tumblr to an author’s note, the summary, or the actual tags on ao3, whichever way you prefer.

Q: Is there a collection on ao3 or twitter? A: While you can post to twitter there is no collection or official event blog there. Currently there is also no collection on ao3, but one will likely be created afterwords. Keep an eye out for a message requesting permission for your fic to be added to it after the event closes if you post there!

Q: Can one work be used for more than one field? Can one work be counted across multiple boards? A: You can only submit a fill for one square of a board, so you cannot cover multiple prompts on a single board in one work and submit it for multiple squares. However, you can submit one work as a fill for two separate boards, as allowing a fill to count for both cannot result in one work being two of the spaces in a single bingo. The point is for every individual bingo to have five separate fills to go with all five of its squares. 

Q: What do the spaces with character names mean? A: The prompt for those spaces is any rarepair involving that character! If the space says ‘Ino’ any rarepair including her will count.

Q: What if tumblr blocks a warning/trigger tag? A: Just tell us the tag that’s blocked and the alternative you plan to use that tumblr doesn’t block and we’ll add it to the rules post so that it can be blacklisted.

Q: How does the free space work? A: For this event the free space is not a freely given one, but rather a creator’s choice space, similar to a ‘free day’ during a week long event.

Q: What is the randomizer and what is it for? A: It is a tool that randomly generates a rarepair for anyone who would like a to shake it up or who plans to complete the randomizer space as explained in the rules post. Using it is not mandatory if you do not do that space.

Q: Where is the randomizer? What ships are in it? Can I request one be added? A: The randomizer is available here, a list of the ships in it is here, and you can send a request at anytime! We’ll add it, but any asks will not be published to avoid clogging dashes.

Q: What if the ultra-rarepair we are creating for gets a 5th fic before we post? A: Any fics posted to ao3 March 1st or later will not count towards the 0-4 fics for the ultra-rare space. The posting period remains unchanged, this date is just to help people who start writing or creating early not have their idea ruined!

Q: Is there an easy way to know if a ship is eligible for ultra-rare? A: Unfortunately because of the way tagging works and the bulk of ships that qualify there is no easy list. You can manually check by searching for the tag/pair on ao3 or you can send an ask and we will check for you!

Q: Is it okay to have under 18 characters if they are both under 18 and it is sfw? A: Yes, if it’s all sfw two similarly-aged underage characters is fine!

Q: Can I submit a fill for an ot3 (or more)? A: Yes! No paring with three or more characters has 400 fics on ao3, so they’re all eligible.

Q:What do meet cute and h/c mean? A: Meet cute is a trope that refers to the first meeting between a couple, likely a cute romantic meeting similar to a romcom type movie, and h/c is an abbreviation for hurt/comfort fic in which someone is hurt (emotionally or physically) and the other person comforts them.

Q: Can I just have the character from a character bingo square be in the fill but not be a part of the ship? A: No, for the character bingo squares the character must be a part of the ship.

Q: Is there a discord? A: There is not currently one for this specific event and in order to create one more mods would be needed to manage it. However, if enough people display interest it could be looked into.

Q:Do we just fill out boards as we please? Or will there be a prompt announced each day like live bingo? A: Because of various logistic issues, such as the fact all spaces would have to eventually called and that the event doesn’t just end when the first person reaches bingo, calling a different prompt everyday seems arbitrary. Participants can post whenever best suits them within the scheduled months.

Q: What happens when you get bingo or at the end of the event? A: We will be keeping track of participants bingo cards. A post will be made announcing everyone who got bingo at the end of the event. After that a masterlist of fills labeled by the board and prompt they are for will be posted. There will also be a post following the bingo announcement giving special mention to any of those participants who completed an entire board.

Download a Bingo Card from our Google Drive. There are 25 unique cards to choose from with a variety of different squares - pick the one that speaks to you!

Each Bingo Card contains either a prompt from our Rare Egg Hunt Prompt List, a type of media, or some common Dragon Age/Fanfic Trope. To cross off the square you must do the following: 

Find a work that features the prompt, trope, or is the correct type of content.

Comment on the work where it is hosted (if it is hosted off Tumblr) and/or on the Tumblr post or reblog the original post on Tumblr 

What Happens if I get Bingo?

We’ll be providing some graphics you can post on your blog or social media profiles for bragging rights which you can claim at the end of the event if you complete your bingo card. You’re on the honor system for claiming them, and if you really feel the need to cheat at internet Solas egg hunting, that’s between you and whatever deities you do or do not believe in.

I’m a creator and I want to make sure my stuff aligns with the Bingo Cards, how do I do that? 

Excellent news! If you used the prompt list - thirty of the squares correspond with our prompts. If you didn’t use the prompt list, we also went by media type and common Dragon Age/Fandom tropes. I’m including the full list of Bingo terms below. If you can tag your works with these specific phrases (only if your work actually contains the trope or is the media type/prompt!), it’ll make it easier for the bingo players to find your works!

When I first started organising fandom events I don’t think I ever envisioned it as involving so many spreadsheets, nor as much tagging and html formatting as it actually takes. Or making graphics, those do end up important too.

I foolishly thought I might be able to write this weekend but no luck so far. Yesterday had all my spoons eaten up with household food planning/orders and soup making (but there is soup FOR DAYS and food planned for 3 weeks too). Today has had a lot of tagging/retagging and cursing at html/css trying to edit theme stuff, mostly unsuccessfully on the latter. I got things functional but not as pretty as desired. And fiddling with AO3 collections - I wish formatting for FAQ/rules etc for those didn’t require manual formatting with html code still. Would love if that could have a rich text editor like the fanwork main section does. Mind you, I do keep wondering when the AO3 summary and author’s notes section will have that too and I presume there must be some technical reason it’s not been added so far.

I didn’t manage to create anything for the Hartmon event in the last couple of weeks, because work and running it took up many spoons, and now I’m wondering if I’ll manage to finish anything other than moodboards for SB week for similar reasons. I did want to do stuff for Rarepair bingo too, but I don’t think I’ll do all the ones I had planned as I probably only will have the last 2 weeks of November free to do anything and my work stress may ramp up during that time. I guess this is the price to pay for running events, not enough energy leftover to take part myself. But I do at least have 3 moodboards done already. I should aim for some drabbles...

MCU RarePairs Bingo 2019 SIGN-UP weeks start now!

Hi everyone, here we are to announce that the sign-up period is starting now! From today until June 15th you will have time to fulfil the form that you’ll find there. 

After the sign-up weeks will be over you can still ask for a card, but you’ll receive a neutral one (created without the possibility to choose your preferences) from which you still can request the change of some squares.

Hi! We are Marvel Rare Pair Bingo, and we are here to announce this bingo challenge that is open to all content creators.  

This rarepair bingo was created to celebrate all the rarepairs within marvel; we hope you’ll join us on this bingo and bring some amazing fics and artwork into the community! let’s get those fic and art counts higher!

Now here is the basic information for the first Marvel Rare Pair Bingo (under the cut):

Rules:

don’t break the rules. depending on the severity, you’ll either be given a warning or just straight up removed from the event altogether.

no pedophillia or incest ships.

no ship bashing / hating / being rude to others. don’t be a dick.

don’t lie about your age on the signup please. neither of us are trying to get into legal trouble.

tag your stuff properly and put appropriate trigger warnings both and the top and in the tags of your work.

anything involving sex, BDSM or a/b/o has to be SAFE, SANE and CONSENSUAL. this means no fuck-or-die, sex pollen, heat sex, etc.

Risk aware kink is allowed as long as consent is obtained first

ABO prompts are limited to SFW only. No mpreg or implied mpreg. please.

‘what is considered a rarepair’

A rarepair is a ship with under 2000 fics on ao3

‘are there nsfw cards?/ do i have to be a certain age to get an NSFW card?’

Yes! People over the age of 15 will be allowed to access the non-sexual NFSW cards, whereas those over the age of 18 will have access to the cards which have more prompts that are sexually themed. Please don’t lie about your age on the form.

‘what if i’m under 15?’

you’ll be getting tamer prompts.

‘do i have to fill out the card completely / are there any prizes?’

No to both. This is just for fun! Pick and chose the prompts that interest you. We will create a congratulations post for all participants, however.

‘what happens if there’s ship bashing/ship hate/breaking of the rules’

depending on the severity, your card will be deleted and you’ll be removed from the event. again, this is supposed to be a fun time for everyone. don’t be a douche.

‘what ships arent allowed?’

any popular/big ships, and pedophillic/incest ships.

Most of the popular ships (ie. stony, stucky, frostiron, etc) have their own bingo/big bang! we want this event to be specifically for the smaller and more rare ships within the community. Think ironhusbands, winterironwar, stuckony, etc.

We here don’t tolerate pedophilia or incest and and any creator making such content will be blacklisted from the event.

Announcing Star Wars RarePair Bingo!

Our goal is to create a calm, low-stakes bingo challenge supporting any of the less popular ships in Star Wars fandom as a whole.

After some struggling with metrics and ways to define what is "rare," we settled on "not one of the top ships in the given tag, follow your heart." If metrics make you happy, some that were considered were "not amongst the 10 most popular for a given source type (ie. Sequels vs Originals vs Prequels etc)" or "makes up less than 5-10% of the fanfic for that era" or "has less than 150-300 works total" but in the end, that was going to lead to way too much need for rules lawyering vs exceptions, and we just want to encourage people to make stuff! So be honest with yourself, but if it's a rarepair and you believe that, go for it!

We'll try to announce a schedule soon, but in the meantime, we'll work on getting a larger FAQ up and then start taking questions!

August 1- August 31

The Event: Summer Fun will be going in the background while we have the week-long events. You’ll be able to submit Mission fills for this Event for the whole month, regardless of what week it is, and be rewarded by unlocking the achievement Achievement: Invincible Summer.

Or, if that version is too hard to see:

You can mix and match! It doesn’t matter! Just write a fic for the Summer theme and/or draw something, and get the Achievement for participating!

This will run throughout the entire month of August.

Events are exempt from the ‘only rarepairs’ rule. Events can be ANY ship, multiships, or gen. But if you want to increase your bingo book entry, the rarepair ranks are below.

Mission Rankings

A Mission’s rank is determined by the word count, which is why it’s so important you make a notation of said word count when you submit said mission.

Ranks

A rank: 15 to 25k words. B rank: 10 to 15k words. C rank: 5 to 10k words. D rank: 3 to 5k words. E rank: 1 to 3k words

Event-Only Ranks

These ranks are not subject to the +1 Event Bonus

SS rank: 50K words or more. S rank: 25 to 50k words. A+ rank: An Event A-rank (15 to 25k words)

Which ships qualify as rareships?

All ships with less than 150 fics where they are the main ship posted to ao3.

Qualify: Brenderesa, Soniet, Minally, Nally, Trenda, Nalby + all other possible ships you can think of!

Don't qualify: Thomesa, Thomally, Newtmas, Thominho, Minewt, Thominewt

When does the event take place?

The bingo runs throughout the month of May - May 1st to May 31st.

Rules

When posting, tag this blog and add the tumblr tag #rareshipbingo2024. Indicate which square your submission fills.

Fic and Artwork needs to be original, that means created for the event.

Any submission types are welcome for the Rarepair Bingo. fanart, fic, fanvids, moodboards, podfics - knock yourselves out!

The AO3 board however can only be filled with fic.

All topics are allowed, the one important thing is to tag your works appropriately. With darker themes err on the side of caution. If you're unsure, feel free to reach out.

If you post nsfw fics to tumblr, make sure you put the text under a read more break (just type :readmore: and hit enter).

You must be 18+ to submit explicit content.

I will be marking all nsfw submissions with the community label for sexually explicit content, so those who don't want to see nsfw submissions make sure to enable community labels.

This event allows all kind of content regarding maturity and topic - I expect followers and participants to practise good fandom culture and adhere to the don't like don't read principle. No bashing ships or tropes you personally don't like.

Unnecessarily hateful comments are to be deleted without response after you notify me, the mod, about them. (Just message this blog)

Clarification: the rarepair needs to be the main focus of the fic. pairings that don't qualify as rareships can appear in your work, but only as a side ship. if you're unsure about this rule feel free to contact me.

FAQ

Is there a minimum word count for fics? No.

Are poly ships allowed? Yes.

Can one submission count for multiple squares from the same board? No. You have to decide which square you want to "use" your submission on, even if it combines prompts.

Can one submission fount for 2 squares on different boards? Yes! Eg if you write a fic for the square "poetry" and it's also the first fic for a ship, it can count for both the poetry square and the "write the first fic for a ship".

Can I submit WIPS? Yes.

Can I submit new chapters of a current WIP? Yes. If you have a rareship fic that you've been dying to continue, feel free to use the bingo as a motivator!

When is the reblogging perios? May 1-31st.

How does the Extra Rare Advanced AO3 Bord (For The Very Insane) work?

All the AO3 squares are to be filled in regards to the AO3 tag before April 22 - today.

Example: if you want to write a Rachel/Miyoko fic, and someone coincidentally would post one before the start of the bingo, your Rachel/Miyoko fic would still count for the "Be the first to write a ship" square.

Similarly, and using the same example as before, if 2 bingo participants decided they wanted to write Rachel/Miyoko, the person who posts their submission second would still get to fill the "Be the first to write a ship" square.

This applies to all AO3 squares:

If your fic is longer than all the fics posted before April 22, it fills the "Write the longest existing fic for a ship" square.

If before April 22nd there was no "General Audiences" rated fic for the rareship of your choice, your fic fills the "Be the first to write a rating no one has written for the ship before" square.

If you need help using the AO3 filtering system to figure out if you would be the first to write for a ship or for any of the other AO3 squares, drop this blog an ask and I'll help you out! I know not everyone is familiar with AO3 and I want this event to be open to everyone, including AO3 newcomers.

❤️ This is an event to create brand new fanworks that celebrate Jason Todd and Stephanie Brown as a couple - whether platonic, romantic, or NSFW. All works must be JaySteph-centric and related to one of the day’s prompts.

💜 Almost all types of fanworks are allowed - fanfic, fanart, incorrect quotes, mood boards, play lists, edits, memes.

❤️ This is a ship-friendly, censorship-free event open to all. We will have a very clear tagging system in place for all ships (including side ships) and dark content so that people can filter out what they don’t want to see from the main blog. We truly want the event to be accessible for everyone regardless of their personal tastes or triggers.

💜 Due to JaySteph’s rarepair status, we don’t allow poly-JaySteph ships in order to keep the event’s focus exclusively on Jason and Steph’s relationship with each other. However, you are welcome to use poly relationships in side ships. DC Make It Poly Week is a great July event where you can feature all your JayStephPoly ships while spreading the JaySteph agenda love.

💜 You may interpret the prompts as broadly or creatively as possible! Additionally, you may create for any AU, and any gender/race/orientation Jason and Steph. (We do encourage you to consider the why’s of switching a female character to male when there are so few fleshed-out canon females, but it’s not prohibited.)

❤️ Work for JaySteph Weekend must be brand new, however you can combine it with any other fandom events if possible. For example, you can choose an August Year of the OTP prompt AND a JSW prompt to use in the same work, or combine a fandom Bingo fill with a JSW prompt. You can’t drop JSW work early, however, so hang onto it until our own event dates!

💜 You can create for just one or two days of the event or all three, and late works are always welcome!
