F.E.A.R AND MISSING OPERATIVES WHO DON'T KNOW THEY'RE DEAD
Another big question about F.E.A.R., where the hell is Jankowski?
Yeah, readings say "Dude he's Alive", but game evidence goes "Oh no he's Ded". Straight up turned into soup.
And the existence of the phantom definitely says "Well... he's certainly not alive like we think anymore. He might just be TIkTok UnAlive--not Dead but definitely not Live."
Well, we're actually given an idea in the first game chapter. Remember the first phantom?
You prolly don't. His name is "Charles Habegger", and he's from Interval 01. We meet his phantom, but find his body partially consumed.
About the same time that Jankowski is reported missing (And we come across the second pile of soup), is the same time we're informed that Fettel is in the area--and that inspite of Jankowski's lifesign readings, we see his phantom.
Well, can only draw the one conclusion.
Fettel had consumed Jankowski.
Life-signs-implant-reader and everything. Fettel has been consuming people for their knowledge and memories--and he would do this to a FEAR Operative in order to know what we, as FEAR Operatives, are about to do and how we work and what we are.
( And who us, the Player "The Pointman", might just be. )
What everyone thought was Jankowski's readings... had actually been Fettel's.

I just finished: The F.E.A.R franchise!
Tumblr media
I'd heard a lot about the F.E.A.R franchise, and it seemed up my alley - as a big Resident Evil fan, a survival horror-esque FPS seemed perfect for me, however I wish I had looked into how people generally felt about the sequels.
Tumblr media
The first game I enjoyed quite a bit - it's not anything super amazing in my opinion, but it's a pretty decent shooter with plenty of exploration and stealth. The horror elements are mild but somewhat effective in their subtlety, and the game is generally just fun - same can be said for the expansions, all though playing them one after another did feel like a bit of a slog.
The second game is takes a pretty quick turn off the deep end. The game is obsessed with trying to seem like proper horror, and it just seems a bit ridiculous. Frequent attempts to shock the player destroy any atmosphere the game may have built, which the first game managed to do fairly successfully. Lore documents also become more frequent but far less interesting, a trend that was felt across genres. Most of the time it's just telling you what you already knew from playing the first game, or just vaguely paying attention whilst playing this one.
Tumblr media
The third game is the worst in many ways, although I ended up enjoying it more than the previous. The game is a bald faced attempt to turn the franchise into Warner's own Call of Duty clone, but at least that was different to what I'd been playing for so long at that point. After the second game the third felt like a breathe of fresh air - not being set at the same time as the first game and at least initially in a different place was very nice, and the fact it's extremely short helps a lot too.
Tumblr media
The game is a decent enough CoD clone - but it is a travesty that's what they turned the games into. The idea that F.E.A.R 3 could ever compete with CoD is insane to me, it's just not a compatible franchise - not only is it an insult to the very idea of creative integrity, it's just a plain bad idea. CoD and Battlefield players are not generally going to be interested in a game called F.E.A.R.
Tumblr media
The narrative elements of the game bug me a lot too - done away with now are any written story notes, CoD pl;ayers won't read anything - instead the story is told through painfully slow sections where the player is forced to walk through empty areas while listening to meaningless monologues. This was a trend in many games for a while, an attempt to seem deep and artsy without understanding any of the reasons why you might put these kinds of things in a game. Thankfully the trend seems to have died out now, but it lasted throughout most of the 2010s at least.
Overall I would recommend the first F.E.A.R games, maybe even the expansions - but I'd probably skip the sequels if you care about your own mental well being.

Started F.E.A.R 3 today. I've been reading the reviews of these games, and while the first one is the classic and best, I felt like the second installment of the series is too hated on. Yeah, it's a downgrade, but only because they went from audio logs to readable logs. Sorry but I ain't reading all of that. Otherwise though, it was pretty much a lot like the first game. This third game however? Holy fuck, they really butchered this one. Can only hold 2 guns instead of 3 or 4. No more health packs or a health bar, you just auto-regen. The Call of Duty effect in full force with this one. And I also can't change the controls unless I just didn't look hard enough? The melee button is the middle mouse button that goes off after a third click, so it's very unreliable.

Just a little expression exercise for funsies. I’m bad at human faces and since Paxton is the only human I ever draw he may as well be my subject.

F.E.A.R AND GHOST LADIES WHO APPARENTLY HAVE BABIES
Something that had caught me as off when it came to FEAR 3 (F3AR), is that... how is a ghost of a dead woman having a baby?
Oh yeah, we can make the argument that "Oh no Alma is just super power god now and can just, have a real baby as a ghost"...
Like, if you're a god now, why you giving Birth? Why not imagine "Make-A-Baby" and boom there it is. The gods know Alma can create anything else.
"But she's damaged in the mind! Thus she can't go fully Godly!" Then the environment would be a lot worse than just a somewhat psychic mess of a post-nuclear apocalypse.
And if she's that damaged of the mind, this would not be happening at all.
( Never seen Silent Hill or played System Shock? Those are what you can expect from gods. Hell, pop up with American McGee's Alice or Elder Scrolls: Morrowind while you're at it. Those are prime examples of what you're looking for when it comes to "mortal gods". )
So it took me a bit, and a question from FEAR 2... What happened to Comms Officer Keira Stokes?
Yeah we saw her shot, but she wasn't that far away from Beckett's pod, now was she?
And if we take the idea that a ghost can only have power if they take on a body, as FEAR tends to imply (With the death of Paxton Fettel and the sudden destruction of his influence).
(Let's say that the FEAR 2 DLC is actually canon, and that Paxton really did possess a new body, hence his reappearance in F3AR).
And that even then, you still can't really bring back the dead. (Cos if you could, why wouldn't Alma? Why wouldn't Paxton? Replicas and "Friends" for Days, you could take over the world with that.)
So the new body undergoes a kind of quasi-undeath. You still got ghostly powers, but you're anchored now, and more than likely you'll have to replace your body eventually (Big thing noticed with phantasms is that they're in a constant state of "flaking away", we can take that as Decay.)
So...
Established the limitation and the restriction, which means that Dead Alma still needs a Live Body to carry a Live Baby.
And isn't it convenient that Stokes was dying nearby, no psychic aptitude so no shields of resistance.
I think that kills two question with one stone, hm?
