Abyssal is the working title for an Exosquad fic that establishes X-ray Squadron - in particular ace pilot Kestrel Byrnes - and their actions during the war against Phaeton, and which (eventually) carries on from where the series' cliffhanger left off.

A mysterious alien invasion force, summoned by the beacon on Mars, has consumed the "dark matter" planet Chaos and abducted the researchers and pilots stationed there. The survivors have to regroup, escape, and make it back to (what they hope is) the safety of ExoFleet so that they can plan a counterstrike.

But it may already be too late.
