Happy Storyteller Saturday! Is there Grief in the Shapeshifter WIP?

Hallo, Happy Storyteller Saturday!

n oh boy there is. so much Grief. in Shapeshifter WIP

It's just not immediately obvious bc at first they are all just vibing and it's a Good Fun Time hanging out with friends and at work!

The grief really only hits when Syn goes off to their spying and both they and Halliel have to deal with a sudden lost of communication and not knowing where the other is and you know they've - since they've met, it's been almost every day they've seen each other, and no one really knows what they're doing without that and they can't go back to the way it was because that would be a betrayal of their country and their job and would get a lot of people killed.

And then Syn returns and it gets worse because Halliel is now fully grieving her best friend and Syn is watching this and can't do shit

And even when Halliel does find out, they both have to be so stealth about it but that doesn't work! They get found out! It goes downhill, doesn't it!

There's a whole lot of loss of the way it was, things changing and breaking and no real goodbyes and sure they signed up for this, but they didn't sign up for this, you know?

I think I said once to a friend - either Kat or Jas - that Syn is a creature made of grief and I was partly talking about where they came from in terms of like. character creation and which aspects of myself I was using, but like. also. in text, if they go quiet and aren't fully invested in what's going on, if they have a minute to stop and think, they're just. so sad. for things that haven't happened, things that might not happen, things that they're trying to change

Also Syn might die at the end so there's like. also that.
