One of the most absolute fun things you can do on a trip to a foreign country is to visit a grocery store! This includes a trip into Canada, if you’re an American. E. LeClerc is one of the largest groceries in France.
It’s a little bit of everything, grocery store, department store, deli, clothing items, a bit like a Super Kroger but with little satellite stores tacked on. More diverse than anything I’ve personally encountered in the states.
Quite a variety of beer and wine, water and soda/juices, an extensive meat/seafood and cheese mart, rows of frozen foods, produce, and lots of cheeses, yogurts, quark, cremefresche, breads, etc.
Like in Germany, you bag and you pay for bags. The clerk scans and smiles, you do the work - not at the blistering pace they joke about in Germany! This payment is 100% automated, they don’t touch the money. I wonder if that is all post-COVID , I broke a 50 for a few items and it spit out the bills and change in seconds. I love the Euro (for lots of reasons!)
The apples are incredible - small core and just firm and tasty. The olives and cheese are awesome with today‘s baguette. I‘ll be back!
