I mean I joined end of 2019 and A LOT happened after 2017, I learned ? like Live on Tour? Amsterdam, Chile, NYC!!!? When they were in Italy at the same time (twice), Release of the Liam Gallagher docu, Harry-esque voice on Lottie stories quickly deleted, Fine Line, Adore you, Louis the fish, Walls, Too Young, Habit, the DLIBYH vid with Harrys back drawing, "this shade of blue", Walls 1st anniversary with H's tattoos on Spotify, the Umbro Shirt, Louis covering 7, Hopelessly devoted to you, Still the One and I will Survive at Harrychella, SO many blue and green lights and clothes, H nodding about musicians who break body parts on tour, "i love HIM", they both in LA on grammy parties, Louis coughing after H cancelled shows due a cold, they both at the euros, some.of your receipts... and SEVERAL other little things I can't remember now.. sure is not like 2011-2015 when I imagine fans had stuff happening every other day, some of these are just funny/cute facts and not a 'proof', and like you said, their goals are different but it's been quite fun nonetheless, specially when I started distancing myself from haters and stopped giving them attention
Your brain is amazing. I couldn’t have thought of half of those off the top of my head. But I agree. There’s been a lot that’s happened in recent years.
I think because we haven’t had them in the same room together (other than the euros) since 2016, it’s very easy to conclude they’re not together if you’re only looking surface level.

BARBARA ROBERTS ★ DTN SERIES
series’ masterlist
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An old chapter is reopened, that force and distinction that drove Barbara Roberts to the top of F1 for two consecutive years, back home. Malibu Racing is a new temple, the extension of a legacy.
Barbara Roberts, Team Principal and CEO of Malibu Racing F1 Team has her origins tied to history books. A two-time world champion whose on-track abilities couldn’t be ignored. A fierce competitor who came back for more.
At the young age of four, Barbara began chasing the excitement behind the wheel, observing karting races closely, going home, and developing her talent with each lap of her uncle’s old kart. She found happiness in speed, enjoyed visiting the Phoenix Street Circuit each year, obsessed over the Indy500, and watched Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost challenge each other throughout the years. Suddenly, she began to dream about a hot-pink car, all her notebooks filled with drawings of it. She, as well as her family, then understood that racing was a fire that needed to be fueled.
Roberts made her kart racing debut at the age of eight, and after winning her first race, it was a matter of time before her name was engraved on several US-based kart championship trophies. However, further progress would require expanding horizons, which prompted the Roberts to move across the ocean in 1994, supporting Barbara for what could be a challenging career.
Europe was fast, she stayed faster. By fourteen her collection of kart titles included national, international, and world championships. Every race and practice aimed for that unattainable perfection, being aware of the judging eyes on each step she took. At 16 years old, Roberts was fearless, deciding to pursue another dream of hers, an engineering career. She used to say that the pressure was a reminder of what was yet to come.
Pieces began to fall into place, Barbara embarked on single-seaters as soon as age allowed it. Her first title in Monoposto Racing Club was followed by titles in Formula BMW ADAC, Formula Renault, and the Formula 3 Euro Series — all consecutive titles. And bound to keep the momentum, she started hunting for a seat in Formula One, closing the deal with BMW Williams in a reserve capacity for 2004 and securing a race seat for the 2005 season.
Debuting at 21, Barbara spent her year fighting at the midfield in struggling machinery, yet was able to finish 10th in the World Championship, once again pouring ink on paper for what would be BMW Sauber in 2006. An improvement in reliability for her sophomore season placed Roberts on track for her maiden Grand Prix victory in the streets of Monaco, an unbelievable, emotional, and well-remembered drive that holds her in the tracks’ spotlight to this day.
For the 2007 season, Scuderia Ferrari took the bet on two young talents: Barbara Roberts and Kimi Räikkönen, giving both drivers the exact same 3-year-contract and an opportunity to make history.
The pair held a fiery battle all season, ending in one of the most astonishing title deciders in the sport’s history, where the world championship rested on their number of wins due to a tie in the points. The crown sealed on Räikkönen, but Barbara’s own would arrive that very next year, securing it after 8 wins and 15 total podiums.
In her final year of mastery, Roberts became a double World Champion after a year-long battle against Brawn’s Jenson Button, three points separating them. And despite being contracted to race in 2010, Roberts decided to leave F1 behind at the end of the 2009 season.
After her F1 retirement, Barbara has taken on different roles and challenges throughout the years. In 2011 revealing her retirement's original reason, Roberts announced her new position as CEO of her family’s emblematic automobile manufacturer, Malibu Motors, linking nostalgia with modernity. In 2016, they held the biggest car launch in history, presenting one supercar and seven SUVs which resulted into having six of those as the bestselling cars of the year. In 2017, Malibu Motors became part of the Formula 3 engine programme, making the public think that was her only form of a comeback to motorsport. Yet, one year later, a victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans was waiting for her and former rivals, Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button. And, in for 2019, she begun sponsoring multiple young women across motorsport, mentoring those in the path to Formula One.
Important figures of the sport, old colleagues, and the public, believed Barbara would be back in the car sooner or later, but after fourteen years, she has opted for a different path. A decade-long project becomes reality in 2023, with two hot-pink cars flying on track, resembling Barbie’s old childhood drawings.

Charles A. Eastman on Crazy Horse
Charles A. Eastman's biography of Crazy Horse (l. c. 1840-1877) is among the most significant sources on the great Sioux war chief, as Eastman drew on accounts of those who had known and fought alongside him in writing it. The work differs, slightly, from the account given in Black Elk Speaks.
Black Elk (l. 1863-1950) was an Oglala Sioux medicine man and Crazy Horse's second cousin, and so it is assumed he would be an authority on the subject. Black Elk Speaks (1932), however, has been criticized by scholars because the account was given to the American poet and writer John G. Neihardt (l. 1881-1973) through an interpreter, and, it has been claimed, Neihardt may have misunderstood aspects of the narrative as he did not know the language or culture and, further, may have purposefully shaped the story for a white audience.
Eastman's account, from his Indian Heroes and Great Chieftains (1916), is thought to be more accurate as Charles A. Eastman (also known as Ohiyesa, l. 1858-1939) was a Sioux author and physician, educated in Euro-American schools but well versed in Sioux culture, history, and language. Critics of both accounts have noted that each has strengths and weaknesses, which balance them out when read together.
The most significant difference in the two accounts concerns Crazy Horse's vision. Black Elk devotes a detailed paragraph to the vision he claims helped shape Crazy Horse's life while Eastman maintains that no one knows what his vision was. Other differences are minor, including Eastman's account of Crazy Horse rescuing the warrior Hump, which, in Black Elk's narrative, is given as Crazy Horse rescuing his younger brother. Both narratives are important historical documents in relating the biography of the great Sioux warrior whose life became legendary even while he lived.
Text
The following is taken from Eastman's Indian Heroes and Great Chieftains, the 1939 edition, republished in 2016. The text has been edited for space considerations, but the unabridged version will be found below in the External Links section.
Crazy Horse was born on the Republican River about 1845. He was killed at Fort Robinson, Nebraska, in 1877, so that he lived barely thirty-three years.
He was an uncommonly handsome man. While not the equal of Gall in magnificence and imposing stature, he was physically perfect, an Apollo in symmetry. Furthermore, he was a true type of Indian refinement and grace. He was modest and courteous as Chief Joseph; the difference is that he was a born warrior, while Joseph was not. However, he was a gentle warrior, a true brave, who stood for the highest ideal of the Sioux. Notwithstanding all that biased historians have said of him, it is only fair to judge a man by the estimate of his own people rather than that of his enemies…
At the age of sixteen he joined a war party against the Gros Ventres. He was well in the front of the charge, and at once established his bravery by following closely one of the foremost Sioux warriors, by the name of Hump, drawing the enemy's fire and circling around their advance guard. Suddenly Hump's horse was shot from under him, and there was a rush of warriors to kill or capture him while down. But amidst a shower of arrows the youth leaped from his pony, helped his friend into his own saddle, sprang up behind him, and carried him off in safety, although they were hotly pursued by the enemy. Thus, he associated himself in his maiden battle with the wizard of Indian warfare, and Hump, who was then at the height of his own career, pronounced Crazy Horse the coming warrior of the Teton Sioux.
At this period of his life, as was customary with the best young men, he spent much time in prayer and solitude. Just what happened in these days of his fasting in the wilderness and upon the crown of bald buttes, no one will ever know…
He loved Hump, that peerless warrior, and the two became close friends, in spite of the difference in age. Men called them "the grizzly and his cub." Again and again the pair saved the day for the Sioux in a skirmish with some neighboring tribe. But one day they undertook a losing battle against the Snakes. The Sioux were in full retreat and were fast being overwhelmed by superior numbers. The old warrior fell in a last desperate charge; but Crazy Horse and his younger brother, though dismounted, killed two of the enemy and thus made good their retreat.
It was observed of him that when he pursued the enemy into their stronghold, as he was wont to do, he often refrained from killing, and simply struck them with a switch, showing that he did not fear their weapons nor care to waste his upon them. In attempting this very feat, he lost this only brother of his, who emulated him closely. A party of young warriors, led by Crazy Horse, had dashed upon a frontier post, killed one of the sentinels, stampeded the horses, and pursued the herder to the very gate of the stockade, thus drawing upon themselves the fire of the garrison. The leader escaped without a scratch, but his young brother was brought down from his horse and killed…
He attained his majority at the crisis of the difficulties between the United States and the Sioux… was twenty-one years old when all the Teton Sioux chiefs (the western or plains dwellers) met in council to determine upon their future policy toward the invader. Their former agreements had been by individual bands, each for itself, and everyone was friendly. They reasoned that the country was wide, and that the white traders should be made welcome. Up to this time they had anticipated no conflict. They had permitted the Oregon Trail, but now to their astonishment forts were built and garrisoned in their territory.
Most of the chiefs advocated a strong resistance. There were a few influential men who desired still to live in peace, and who were willing to make another treaty. Among these were White Bull, Two Kettle, Four Bears, and Swift Bear. Even Spotted Tail, afterward the great peace chief, was at this time with the majority, who decided in the year 1866 to defend their rights and territory by force. Attacks were to be made upon the forts within their country and on every trespasser on the same.
Crazy Horse took no part in the discussion, but he and all the young warriors were in accord with the decision of the council. Although so young, he was already a leader among them…The attack on Fort Phil Kearny was the first fruits of the new policy, and here Crazy Horse was chosen to lead the attack on the woodchoppers, designed to draw the soldiers out of the fort, while an army of six hundred lay in wait for them. The success of this stratagem was further enhanced by his masterful handling of his men. From this time on a general war was inaugurated; Sitting Bull looked to him as a principal war leader, and even the Cheyenne chiefs, allies of the Sioux, practically acknowledged his leadership. Yet during the following ten years of defensive war, he was never known to make a speech, though his teepee was the rendezvous of the young men. He was depended upon to put into action the decisions of the council and was frequently consulted by the older chiefs…
Early in the year 1876, his runners brought word from Sitting Bull that all the roving bands would converge upon the upper Tongue River in Montana for summer feasts and conferences. There was conflicting news from the reservation. It was rumored that the army would fight the Sioux to a finish; again, it was said that another commission would be sent out to treat with them.
The Indians came together early in June and formed a series of encampments stretching out from three to four miles, each band keeping separate camp. On June 17, scouts came in and reported the advance of a large body of troops under General Crook. The council sent Crazy Horse with seven hundred men to meet and attack him. These were nearly all young men, many of them under twenty, the flower of the hostile Sioux. They set out at night so as to steal a march upon the enemy, but within three or four miles of his camp they came unexpectedly upon some of his Crow scouts. There was a hurried exchange of shots; the Crows fled back to Crook's camp, pursued by the Sioux. The soldiers had their warning, and it was impossible to enter the well-protected camp. Again and again Crazy Horse charged with his bravest men, in the attempt to bring the troops into the open, but he succeeded only in drawing their fire.
Toward afternoon he withdrew and returned to camp disappointed. His scouts remained to watch Crook's movements, and later brought word that he had retreated to Goose Creek and seemed to have no further disposition to disturb the Sioux. It is well known to us that it is Crook rather than Reno who is to be blamed for cowardice in connection with Custer's fate. The latter had no chance to do anything, he was lucky to save himself; but if Crook had kept on his way, as ordered, to meet Terry, with his one thousand regulars and two hundred Crow and Shoshone scouts, he would inevitably have intercepted Custer in his advance and saved the day for him, and war with the Sioux would have ended right there. Instead of this, he fell back upon Fort Meade, eating his horses on the way, in a country swarming with game, for fear of Crazy Horse and his braves!
The Indians now crossed the divide between the Tongue and the Little Big Horn, where they felt safe from immediate pursuit. Here, with all their precautions, they were caught unawares by General Custer, in the midst of their midday games and festivities, while many were out upon the daily hunt.
On this twenty-fifth of June 1876, the great camp was scattered for three miles or more along the level river bottom, back of the thin line of cottonwoods—five circular rows of teepees, ranging from half a mile to a mile and a half in circumference. Here and there stood out a large, white, solitary teepee; these were the lodges or "clubs" of the young men. Crazy Horse was a member of the "Strong Hearts" and the "Tokala" or Fox lodge. He was watching a game of ring-toss when the warning came from the southern end of the camp of the approach of troops.
The Sioux and the Cheyenne were "minute men", and although taken by surprise, they instantly responded. Meanwhile, the women and children were thrown into confusion. Dogs were howling, ponies running hither and thither, pursued by their owners, while many of the old men were singing their lodge songs to encourage the warriors, or praising the "strong heart" of Crazy Horse.
That leader had quickly saddled his favorite war pony and was starting with his young men for the south end of the camp, when a fresh alarm came from the opposite direction, and looking up, he saw Custer's force upon the top of the bluff directly across the river. As quick as a flash, he took in the situation—the enemy had planned to attack the camp at both ends at once; and knowing that Custer could not ford the river at that point, he instantly led his men northward to the ford to cut him off. The Cheyenne followed closely. Custer must have seen that wonderful dash up the sage-bush plain, and one wonders whether he realized its meaning. In a very few minutes, this wild general of the plains had outwitted one of the most brilliant leaders of the Civil War and ended at once his military career and his life.
In this dashing charge, Crazy Horse snatched his most famous victory out of what seemed frightful peril, for the Sioux could not know how many were behind Custer. He was caught in his own trap. To the soldiers it must have seemed as if the Indians rose up from the earth to overwhelm them. They closed in from three sides and fought until not a white man was left alive. Then they went down to Reno's stand and found him so well intrenched in a deep gully that it was impossible to dislodge him. Gall and his men held him there until the approach of General Terry compelled the Sioux to break camp and scatter in different directions.
While Sitting Bull was pursued into Canada, Crazy Horse and the Cheyenne wandered about, comparatively undisturbed, during the rest of that year, until in the winter the army surprised the Cheyenne, but did not do them much harm, possibly because they knew that Crazy Horse was not far off. His name was held in wholesome respect. From time to time, delegations of friendly Indians were sent to him, to urge him to come in to the reservation, promising a full hearing and fair treatment.
For some time, he held out, but the rapid disappearance of the buffalo, their only means of support, probably weighed with him more than any other influence. In July 1877, he was finally prevailed upon to come in to Fort Robinson, Nebraska, with several thousand Indians, most of them Ogallala and Miniconjou Sioux, on the distinct understanding that the government would hear and adjust their grievances.
At this juncture General Crook proclaimed Spotted Tail, who had rendered much valuable service to the army, head chief of the Sioux, which was resented by many. The attention paid Crazy Horse was offensive to Spotted Tail and the Indian scouts, who planned a conspiracy against him. They reported to General Crook that the young chief would murder him at the next council and stampede the Sioux into another war. He was urged not to attend the council and did not, but sent another officer to represent him. Meanwhile the friends of Crazy Horse discovered the plot and told him of it. His reply was, "Only cowards are murderers."
His wife was critically ill at the time, and he decided to take her to her parents at Spotted Tail agency, whereupon his enemies circulated the story that he had fled, and a party of scouts was sent after him. They overtook him riding with his wife and one other but did not undertake to arrest him, and after he had left the sick woman with her people, he went to call on Captain Lea, the agent for the Brule, accompanied by all the warriors of the Miniconjou band. This volunteer escort made an imposing appearance on horseback, shouting and singing, and in the words of Captain Lea himself and the missionary, the Reverend Mr. Cleveland, the situation was extremely critical. Indeed, the scouts who had followed Crazy Horse from Red Cloud agency were advised not to show themselves, as some of the warriors had urged that they be taken out and horsewhipped publicly.
Under these circumstances Crazy Horse again showed his masterful spirit by holding these young men in check. He said to them in his quiet way: "It is well to be brave in the field of battle; it is cowardly to display bravery against one's own tribesmen. These scouts have been compelled to do what they did; they are no better than servants of the white officers. I came here on a peaceful errand."
The captain urged him to report at army headquarters to explain himself and correct false rumors, and on his giving consent, furnished him with a wagon and escort. It has been said that he went back under arrest, but this is untrue. Indians have boasted that they had a hand in bringing him in, but their stories are without foundation. He went of his own accord, either suspecting no treachery or determined to defy it.
When he reached the military camp, Little Big Man walked arm-in-arm with him, and his cousin and friend, Touch-the-Cloud, was just in advance. After they passed the sentinel, an officer approached them and walked on his other side. He was unarmed but for the knife which is carried for ordinary uses by women as well as men. Unsuspectingly he walked toward the guardhouse, when Touch-the-Cloud suddenly turned back exclaiming: "Cousin, they will put you in prison!"
"Another white man's trick! Let me go! Let me die fighting!" cried Crazy Horse. He stopped and tried to free himself and draw his knife, but both arms were held fast by Little Big Man and the officer. While he struggled thus, a soldier thrust him through with his bayonet from behind. The wound was mortal, and he died in the course of that night, his old father singing the death song over him and afterward carrying away the body, which they said must not be further polluted by the touch of a white man. They hid it somewhere in the Bad Lands, his resting place to this day.
Thus died one of the ablest and truest American Indians. His life was ideal; his record clean. He was never involved in any of the numerous massacres on the trail but was a leader in practically every open fight. Such characters as those of Crazy Horse and Chief Joseph are not easily found among so-called civilized people. The reputation of great men is apt to be shadowed by questionable motives and policies, but here are two pure patriots, as worthy of honor as any who ever breathed God's air in the wide spaces of a new world.

Driver Profiles: Zhou Guanyu
Hello, this is part of a series where I focus on one driver on the current (as of Oct 2024) grid and give an overview over their career and driving styles. I will be going in championship points order. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
Name: Zhou Guanyu
Age: 25
Nationality: Chinese
Years in F1: 3 (Alfa Romeo/Kick Sauber 2022-Present)
Number: 24
WDCs: N/A
Driving Style: Zhou is a precise and measured driver, often leaning away from aggressive styling. He seems to prefer for consistency over risk, and due to this has strong tire management. He also keeps his composure during races, a boon when fighting in the midfield. However, this cautious nature leads him to not often be able to fight with the more aggressive racers. He tends to hold his position for entire races, and does not do that much overtaking.
History:
Zhou was born to an extremely wealthy Chinese family, and started karting when he was 8 years old (2008). He won multiple local karting championships (including one named after him) and showed a talent for racing from a young age. In 2012 he moved to the Uk in order to get more involved with competitive karting. In 2013 he won both the Super 1 National Rotax Max Junior Championship and Rotax Max Euro Challenge, with standout performances that meant drawing more senior level attention. For his final year of karting, Zhou finished 2nd in the Rotax Max Senior Euro Challenge and participated in selected rounds of WSK Champions Cup and the KF2 European Championship, with middling results.
Tumblr media
(Zhou during his karting days)
He debuted in F4 for the Italian F4 Championship. He had a fantastic year, and finished 2nd in the standings. This also meant he was the most successful rookie that year, and so he won the rookie championship. 2016 he joined F3, and finished 16th in the European Championship, a less than positive result. He stayed in F3 for 2017 and improved to 8th place. His last year in F3 was 2018, and it was the year he achieved his maiden F3 win. He would go on to win another race and gain 3 pole positions, but finish 8th in the standings once more.
Tumblr media
(Zhou during Italian F4)
2019 Zhou graduated up to F2, and had a positive rookie year. He won one sprint race, and finished in high points often. He finished the season in 7th place as the highest ranked rookie. 2020 would be a similar year in F2, but he would end the year in 6th, a slightly better result. During the winter break before the start of the 2021 Formula 2 season, Zhou participated in the 2021 F3 Asian Championship and won the championship after achieving 4 wins and 11 podiums. 2021 was his best year in F2, and he would win 4 races and 9 podiums. He finished that season 3rd in the standings, his best results yet.
Tumblr media
(Zhou on podium during F2 days)
Throughout all of this Zhou had been involved with the Ferrari Driver Academy (since 2014) and then the Renault Sports Academy (starting 2019) which allowed him to get his foot in the door in F1. After a successful final F2 season, late 2021 it was announced that he had been signed with F1 team Alfa Romeo to partner Valterri Bottas. Through this he became the first Chinese F1 driver in history. He had a negative first year with Alfa Romeo, experiencing several mechanical problems, and 8th was his highest finish. He ended the season 18th in the drivers championship.
Tumblr media
(Zhou in his 2021 Alfa Romeo)
2023 was pretty much an identical year to 2022 for Zhou. He did have a few races where he achieved fastest lap, but his highest finish was 10th place. A more positive aspect to his year was that he qualified much better than 2022, making it up into Q3 a few times. His highest race start was 5th place. He ended the season with the same number of points and in the same position as the previous year. 2024 he was retained to the newly named Kick Sauber team, and so far it has been an even worse year for Zhou. He has not finished in the points yet so far (neither has his teammate). As of right now he does not have a seat for 2025.
Tumblr media
Major Races:
2022 Bahrain GP - His debut race, Zhou pulled off a good performance by finishing the race in 10th place. A remarkable result for a rookie in one of the slowest cars on the grid.
2022 Canadian GP - Zhou's highest finish to date, his calm approach in wet-dry conditions allowed him a leg up over faster cars and let him get higher in the points than normal.
2024 Australian GP - While not a points finish, Zhou showed he could fight with drivers to establish a higher result. He navigated a rather chaotic midfield and avoided any trouble throughout the race.
2024 Canadian GP - This race was marred by the typical mechanical problems that Kick Sauber has been experiencing, but Zhou showed resilience and was able to work around any difficulties to finish the race.
That is all for Zhou, up next is Valterri Bottas, which may be a long one.
Cheers,
-B

Well, that was characteristically hard work for England.
An early goal and then panicky play all round - although it should be said, Serbia didn’t have a shot in the box.
The mixed performance from England reflects a mixed performance from our heroes in the Gamblefest.
The Dutch victory over Poland earned all three players a win in the 2pm kick-off.
Our first draw of the tournament between Denmark and Slovenia earned Tom and Neil another win - but not enough for Alex.
Harry Kane virtually refused to play football so didn’t produce enough shots, goals or even daring offside runs to help Tom and Neil - but Alex got some more cash from England’s victory.
So what does that mean after day three?
Alex: 81p UP
Neil: 62p UP
Tom: £1.55 UP
Each of us won two of the three bets on day three - results that saw Alex and Neil slightly extend their profits. The England game was the seventh match of the tournament so far and Tom’s first loss of Euro 2024 - meaning a slight loss overall on the day.
It’s been a surprising start for all three of us - with Neil’s England loss tonight an urgent reminder that corner bets are bad. But overall, it’s been positive.
At this stage of the last Euros, we were all in debt, Alex the best performer with a 71p loss. In 2016, Alex was £7 down after seven bets - again all three of us were below zero.
It’s not the best start to a tournament - Tom and Neil were both several pounds up by this stage of the 2018 World Cup. But it’s a steady start. Let’s see what day four and our lack of knowledge of Romania and Ukraine brings.
Here's what we're after.
Alex:
Romania v Ukraine, over 0.5 goals and over 0.5 cards - 1/20
Belgium v Slovakia, over 0.5 cards, over 1.5 goals, Belgium to win - 3/4
Austria v France, over 1.5 goals, over 0.5 cards, Austria to receive most bookings - 1/1
Neil:
Romania v Ukraine, George Puscas to win two fouls, 20+ booking points - 5/2
Belgium v Slovakia, Belgium to win - 4/9
Austria v France, Mbappe to win 2+ fouls and have 2+ shots on target, Austria to commit 10+ fouls -7/2
Tom:
Romania v Ukraine, Ukraine to win or be two goals up at any point in the game - 3/4
Belgium v Slovakia, Belgium to win or be two goals up at any point in the game - 4/9
Austria v France, Kylian Mbappe to score - 11/10
I think this is the matchday where Neil wants to take the handbrake off a little…

Androgyne  Fashion + Gender

The first visually led exploration of androgyny—from representations in antiquity to its current prevalence in the fashion world and beyond
In January 2011, Jean Paul Gaultier’s haute couture runway show ended with the image of a willowy blonde bride in a diaphanous gown. The bride was a man, and one of the first models to walk for both men’s and women’s collections. The event marked the start of a trend. “This ad is gender neutral,” proclaimed a 2016 poster for the fashion brand Diesel; “I resist definitions,” announced a Calvin Klein ad in the same year, while a Louis Vuitton shoot featured Jaden Smith wearing a skirt.
The art of Edward Burne-Jones and Gustave Moreau, the writings of Oscar Wilde, and the mystic Joséphin Péladan prove that the turn of the previous century was as compelled by androgyny as this one. From the late nineteenth to the early twenty-first century, the genders have blended: from Berlin in the 1920s to Hollywood of the 1930s with Garbo and Dietrich; from the 1940s Bright Young Things to the androgynous pop stars of the 1970s, and beyond.
Patrick Mauries presents a cultural history of androgyny—accompanied by a striking selection of more than 120 images, from nineteenth-century painting to contemporary fashion photography—drawing on the worlds of art and literature to give us a deeper understanding of the strange but timeless human drive to escape from defined categories.

Lowest of high keys, I think Webber and RUG's desire to homogenize and micromanage the show is going to lead to the death of CATS as a mainstream theatre staple.
Like. I'm not even really being hyperbolic.
Show starts in the early 80s, and it's peppered across the globe, and everyone has their own approach to interpreting the show. Show begins to be a standout, and designs get refined. There's a slight move toward unity, or at least large similarity, to London designs from Zurich/Euro-Tour
Come the late 90s, Webber and RUG decide they want a "definitive version" of the show that, wouldn't you know it, draws solely from the London and US traditions. And then throughout the 2000s productions are closing and limited tours are running and the tours aren't London-based, but use the London designs, and it becomes apparent this is the expected standard. By 2016, every western Replica was a London Replica.
2014 was when they decided to attempt to implement Rap Tugger, and this is also when, imo, it became clear that they wanted as unified a brand as possible, bc Paris + ANZ 2015 also had Rap Tugger. The character was poorly received, Webber blamed the actor instead of himself + Napier for spearheading the changes, and, most notably, they seem to have written Rap tugger out of the replica licensing, bc once he was phased out for the rest of the UK/International Tour, he was phased out everywhere.
ANZ had a seeming defiance to the homogenized costumes, attempting to blend their aesthetic with London, to....mixed results. Ultimately the one production enjoying the most distinction from London was/is the US, with tweaked makeup and costuming and choreo.
And yet....The show closed on Broadway shockingly fast. And ppl bring up the choreo changes and. Yeah that probably played a part, but like. It's also worth mentioning that most ppl in the US who were used to/fans of CATS...were most likely used to the US designs pre-video. Tour V was running into the year 2010, and that + Broadway were the general visual basis for most regional productions. The revival didn't feel like the CATS they were used to at all.
And then of course there's the elephant in the room here that. It is glaringly obvious that Webber wants a homogenized production almost as much as he wants every corner cut.
Like. I fully acknowledge Webber isn't making every executive decision about budgeting and allocation of resources but. Surely RUG aren't blind to the fact that Tour VI, since going non-equity, regularly has dry spells of makeup where the actors run out of white and their faces grow ever more skin toned in an unflattering way. That's not even going into the switch of the US Revival into Ben Nye creams.
And I could write you a novel about how I detest the new non-US standard makeup. It is shamefully awful. The reference renderings are horrid from a digital painting point of view, let alone a Makeup Design One. And I know that non US productions have also now been dealt a lower-quality hand of makeup, but, frankly, i simply do not think that's the reason for this. I think there was some sort of falling out between Webber and Dawson, and/or he can't get the full rights to her designs and doesn't want to keep them associated with most productions of the show.
And obviously that's speculation but it's also like. Why else is he subjecting as many productions as possible to these shitty new designs.
And like, the actors aren't any less talented, but these designs are kinda disheartening to see representing the official face of the show. And I don't see these faces scoring enough ppl in to ever make this show a long-running success in a permanent theatre again. If Webber's lucky it'll stay viable as a tour but like. Again. Kinda looks like shit. The Dawson designs were already in the process of being watered down to nigh-unreadability from a distance, and these new ones took that and ran.
Like idk. I don't see this ending well.

Adele's Grand Munich Concert Series: 'A Bit Bloody Exciting'
Tumblr media
Earlier this summer, with a little help from AI, Adele slipped into a Bavarian-style dirndl dress, cradled a very tall beer, and held a giant soft pretzel aloft. “Not long now … Pack ma’s!” was the tagline, translating from Bavarian dialect as “Let’s do this!” Her groundbreaking, potentially record-busting Munich residency was only a few weeks off. Her Adele in Munich spectacular is now set to begin on Friday, attracting fans from around the world to 10 shows during August at a custom-built pop-up stadium, while pointing a way forward for pop superstardom – a bold project that has sparked excitement and some controversy. Adele’s AI-enhanced, tongue-in-cheek Instagram story situating her in a mocked-up Oktoberfest showed the multi-platinum, multi-Grammy-winning British singer embracing her long run in southern Germany – her first performances in continental Europe since 2016. “In Munich? That’s a bit random, but still fabulous!” was how she framed it on social media in January when the concerts were announced, calling it “a wonderful way to spend my summer and end this beautiful phase of my life and career”. Adele is also still doing her Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace, which began in November 2022 and ends later this year. Both the Vegas and Munich residencies give her a high level of creative and logistical control compared with touring – a luxury option only available to entertainment’s biggest draws. “Superstars with the kind of catalogue that have a towering amount of hits are able to set up shop in one spot and say to their fans, ‘Hey, I’m powerful and famous and popular enough that you will come to me,’” said Jason Lipshutz, senior director of music at US industry magazine Billboard. “It’s definitely a flex.” The 400,000 sq-metre (4.3m sq ft) venue built for the concert series has been likened to a one-woman music festival. It features an amphitheatre for the performances plus a vast “Adele World” hospitality area with Bavarian beer garden; a pub modelled on the Good Ship in Kilburn, north-west London, where she performed early gigs; and a bar named I Drink Wine after one of her recent album tracks. Seven hundred people have been working to her team’s specifications for much of this year on site at the Munich fairgrounds outside the city. The singer teased fans in July with photos of herself beaming in a hi-vis vest while inspecting the site: “It’s all a bit bloody exciting.” The venue will accommodate a maximum of 75,000 fans a show, viewing a stage conceived by Eurovision song contest and America’s Got Talent set designer Florian Wieder. A 93-metre catwalk and 200-metre semicircular walkway to a second stage will bring Adele’s blend of ballad-belting diva and salty Londoner as close as possible to fans. Her manager, Jonathan Dickins, told reporters the atmosphere in Munich, a convenient European crossroads, would be “cosy”. But he said this residency would be the “total opposite” of the intimate Las Vegas shows, with a different setlist apart from the obvious big hits. A 220 x 30-metre backdrop screen, resembling a very long roll of analogue film, may find a place in the Guinness World Records for its size. The production team said the screen cost around €40m (£34m) and will also block noise from the nearby autobahn. If it rains, which it has often done this soggy German summer, everyone, including Adele, will get wet, but asphalt has been laid across the fairgrounds to avoid a mudbath. Veteran concert promoter Marek Lieberberg said the total production costs were in the range of hundreds of millions of euros – “the biggest project in my 50 years in the music business”. Adele will set up in Munich for the whole four weeks with her family, Dickins said. Local media reported that they would be staying at a sprawling suite in the city’s old town with four bedrooms, six bathrooms, four sitting rooms, and a dedicated butler. Residencies with global stars have become commonplace in the US – think Britney Spears and Céline Dion in Las Vegas and Billy Joel and Harry Styles in New York – but are still a relative rarity in continental Europe. “It’s not revolutionary what Adele is doing – it more falls into a trend” in the post-pandemic world of touring, Lipshutz said. “She wants to replicate a feeling more than just a performance among her fans, and give them an experience. This is a whole event to soak up and really enjoy.” US residencies tend to take place in destination cities giving fans an excuse to build a mini-holiday around the show while providing a windfall for the hosts. Munich’s top economic official Clemens Baumgärtner has estimated that Germany’s third-biggest city would make €566m from Adele’s August dates thanks to hospitality revenues and the rent from the fairgrounds, without Munich having to contribute to the cost of production. Some fans criticised the bargain-basement prices as unfair given what they paid early on to be assured a spot in a crowd. However, Lipshutz said it was not unusual for tickets to still be available given the giant scope of Adele in Munich. “Selling out a residency at an enormous venue is always going to be tricky for an artist of any stature. I truly think Adele will be fine, no matter how many thousands of tickets are sold.” Much has been made of the carbon footprint of big acts such as Taylor Swift while on tour. But fans traversing continents for once-in-a-lifetime encounters with their favourite stars have a huge climate impact too, noted Jan Stremmel, a journalist with Munich daily Süddeutsche Zeitung. “Gig tripping” is now competing with world touring, he said after speaking with people coming from as far as Washington DC and Manila to see Adele. “Now fans are increasingly going to where their idols are, even if it’s on the other end of the planet,” he said. “It’s a remarkable development, not only economically but also ecologically.” It’s understandable why they’re making the trip, however, as it is likely to be the last opportunity for some time. Adele recently announced a “big break” from music after the conclusion of the Las Vegas residency in November. “My tank is quite empty from being on stage every weekend in Las Vegas,” she said while promoting the Munich concerts. “I don’t have any plans for new music, at all … I think I want to do other creative things just for a little while.” Read the full article

This ball is a milestone as it is the first Official Match Ball for a UEFA European Championship Final to feature Connected Ball technology, which enhances officiating accuracy and provides real-time key in-play statistics like speed, spin, and distance.

Starting today, the FUSSBALLLIEBE FINALE Official Match Ball is available for purchase at adidas retail stores, selected retailers, and online at adidas.com.

Solène Störmann, Global Category Director for Football Hardware at adidas, expressed the significance of the ball: “With this being the first UEFA European Championship to be hosted by a single nation since 2016, we wanted the FUSSBALLLIEBE FINALE to be heavily inspired by the iconic colors of the German flag. But to really stand out as the ball for the most decisive games, we’ve opted for a distinctive silver base that makes the ball almost embody the coveted trophy that all these great teams will be competing for. This ball also marks a new era of technical innovation with Connected Ball Technology."
Adidas also introduced a new match ball plinth for the Semi-Final and Final pre-match ceremonies. Designed by Gonzales Haase AAS, the plinth is made of anodized aluminum shaped into a triangular prism, symbolizing the 54 UEFA associations that participated in UEFA EURO 2024™.

France FIFA World Cup: Kylian Mbappe's Real Madrid Move Sparks FIFA World Cup Excitement
France FIFA World Cup: Kylian Mbappé has officially signed with Real Madrid, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious career. Real Madrid announced on Monday that they have secured a five-year contract with the French star, uniting one of football's brightest talents with its most storied club.

This long-anticipated move follows years of speculation and interest from Madrid, which has long coveted the player who has risen to prominence after Lionel Messi. At 25 years old, Mbappé is already a World Cup champion with France FIFA World Cup and is set to join a Real Madrid squad brimming with talent and fresh off their latest European victory.
Two days before this announcement, Real Madrid celebrated their record-extending 15th European Cup win, defeating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the Champions League final held in London. This victory solidified their status as a dominant force in European football.
Until now, Mbappé has exclusively played for French clubs, starting his professional journey at AS Monaco before spending seven seasons at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). He left PSG as a free agent after the club failed to convince him to renew his contract. In 2021, Real Madrid boldly offered PSG 180 million euros for Mbappé, mirroring the fee PSG had paid Monaco for him as a teenager. However, the offer was rejected.
France Favored for Euros but Must Avoid Complacency
Former France and Manchester United captain Patrice Evra asserts that France is the frontrunner for the upcoming UEFA European Championships. With Kylian Mbappe, arguably the world's best player right now, leading their charge, France aims for their third Euros title.
We offer France FIFA World Cup 2026 tickets to enthusiasts through our trusted online platform, E-ticketing.co. Secure your highly anticipated Football World Cup tickets with us, your most reliable source for booking and updates.
"It's obvious that France are the favourites," Evra stated during an interaction hosted by Sony Sports. "No other team in the competition has a stronger squad. Coach Didier Deschamps is eager for that trophy. However, France's biggest enemy is often itself. The problem is sometimes we're too good, too arrogant, and too confident. Will other teams respect France and play defensively, catching us on counterattacks? We just essential to be patient, avoid frustration, and seize the right moments to strike."
Cristiano Ronaldo remains one of the tournament's biggest draws. The 39-year-old led Portugal to the title in 2016 and has won the Ballon d'Or five times. Determined to add another accolade, Ronaldo is expected to score prolifically.
"Age is just a number," Evra highlighted. "People need to stop focusing on his age. If he's there, it's since he’s still at the top level. Don't worry about his fitness. Cristiano wants to win that trophy again. Portugal has many talented players, and coach Roberto Martinez trusts them. With Ronaldo in the team, you know he’s going to score. It's more of an advantage than a disadvantage. I don’t understand why people question his age. He has been the GOAT and will continue to be the GOAT."
Germany, Italy, and Portugal Poised to Challenge
Hosts Germany are another major team to watch. With three Euro titles, they share the record for the most successful team in the tournament's history with Spain. Julian Nagelsmann's squad, however, must handle the immense pressure of performing on home soil. Germany was ousted in the round of 16 in the last Euros and didn't make it past the group stage in the last two World Cups.
"I was disappointed by Germany in the last tournament," Evra remarked. "In the past, predicting Germany to reach the semifinals or finals was a given. But now they've lost some of that discipline and fear factor. That said, everyone dreams of winning major trophies in their own country. I think Germany will surprise us this time. They're regaining their strength and remain a formidable team. Germany is still Germany."
Evra also sees Italy as a potential dark horses. The Azzurri won the previous Euros in 2020 but faced a significant setback by not qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. "Italy will always be Italy," noted the ex-left-back, who earned 81 caps for France.
"They have an experienced manager in Luciano Spalletti. You always have to respect them because no team surpasses them tactically. It felt odd not to see them in a major competition like the France FIFA World Cup. Italy has a rich football culture. Trust me, it's always tough playing against Italy. They might defend deeply, making the game seem dull, but then strike at the last minute. They're a major footballing nation and very dangerous."
France Euro 2024 Squad: Didier Deschamps' Complete Roster
The lineup for France's Euro 2024 squad has been unveiled, with Didier Deschamps making the strategic decision to bring only 25 players, rather than utilizing the full quota of 26. In a move aimed at maintaining team cohesion, Deschamps has opted for a streamlined roster, similar to Belgium’s approach. This decision follows the reported internal friction caused by Karim Benzema's surprising inclusion in the Euro 2020 squad.
Football fans around the globe are eagerly awaiting FIFA World Cup tickets. To experience the excitement firsthand, secure your FIFA World Cup 2026 tickets via our online platform, E-ticketing.co. Don't miss your chance to be part of one of football's most thrilling tournaments.
Benzema's return, fueled by his extraordinary form which earned him a Ballon d'Or, stirred some unrest within the team. Learning from this, Deschamps has chosen to prioritize harmony over an additional superstar. France remains a favourite for the tournament. Despite never scoring in the Euros, Kylian Mbappe is a strong contender for the Golden Boot, especially following his recent transfer to Real Madrid.
He is supported by seasoned players like Olivier Giroud, N'Golo Kante, Antoine Griezmann, and Adrien Rabiot, forming a formidable lineup. Now, as Mbappé dons the iconic white jersey of Real Madrid, fans around the world are eager to see how his exceptional skills will contribute to the club's ongoing success. This transfer highlights Real Madrid's strategic vision and Mbappé's desire to continue growing and achieving at the highest levels of football.
Challenges Ahead Despite France's Favorable Outlook
France finds itself in one of the tougher groups in Euro 2024. Their primary competition in the group stage comes from the Netherlands, with Austria and Poland also posing challenges. Although progressing to the knockout rounds appears straightforward on paper, the unpredictability of football means they must remain vigilant. Nonetheless, under Deschamps' steady leadership, the team has managed to overcome its past tendency towards self-destruction.
The squad's composition reflects Deschamps' strategic thinking and experience. Opting for fewer players can foster a tighter-knit group, which might prove beneficial in high-pressure situations. This decision underscores the importance of team dynamics in achieving success in international tournaments.
Kylian Mbappe's presence is particularly significant, given his remarkable talent and recent high-profile move. His performance will be crucial to France's aspirations. Alongside him, the experience and skill of Giroud, Kante, Griezmann, and Rabiot provide a balanced and potent mix that can adapt to various match scenarios.
Despite the inherent challenges of their group, France's depth of talent and Deschamps' tactical acumen position them as strong contenders for the title. The blend of youthful exuberance and seasoned expertise in the squad could be the key to navigating the complexities of the tournament and securing another European Championship for Les Bleus.

HOW THE ENGLAND FOOTBALL TEAM WENT FROM CHOCKERS TO CHALLENGERS IN 5 YEARS
A few years back, the English football team was considered a joke by many of the fans and the pundits. This occurred due to the disastrous performance of the team, not just in Internal fixtures, but in the major tournaments as well. The standard and the quality of English football had been deteriorating since the start of the century. Since 2000, there have been several low points in English football, with each being lower than the last one like not qualifying for the Euros in 2008, early elimination in the 2010 world cup and the 2014 world cup, just to name a few. In the latter, they scored just two goals, secured a solitary point in 3 games, and got knocked out in the group stages. But the moment when England hit rock bottom was in the 2016 Euro tournament.
When it came to the qualifiers of the 2016 Euro’s, there was optimism among the fans. This was due to their performance in the Qualifiers where they topped their group by winning all 10 games, scoring 28 goals,  and only conceding 3. Another reason why the qualifiers was a big plus for England was because of the introduction of fresh faces such as Danny Drinkwater, Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and the performances of John Stones, Danny Rose and Keiran Trippier in defense which resulted in England conceding only 3 goals in 10 games in the qualification stages.
But their performance in Euro 2016 of one of their worst in their entire tournament history. The finished second in a group consisting of Wales, Russia, and Slovakia, three teams who England should have beaten comfortably on paper. Instead, they drew to Russia, just got past Wales and drew 0-0 to Slovakia. There was optimism about England reaching the quarter finals as they had to face Iceland in the round of 16. But their tournament got worse as they lost 2-1 and crashed out of the Euro’s. The backlash from this tournament was heavy as several players such Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane were criticized for their poor performance and Roy Hodgson had resigned after a 4-year reign.
There were several theories formed by fans and pundits as to the reason for the poor performance of England in major tournaments. The problems were made clear from their Euro 2016 debacle. Many people felt that the team selection was wrong and people who were in the team did not deserve their place in the squad. Players such as Danny Drinkwater was left out of the Euro squad after a good performance in the league leading to a title win for Leicester city. The inclusion of Jack Wilshere had not gone down well amongst the fans either as he spent 8 months of the 2015/16 on the sidelines with an injury and had played only 141 minutes in the entire season. England had appointed Sam Allardyce as the new England manager, but he was sacked after one game after he was charged with corruption.
England appointed Gareth Southgate as their caretaker manager, following the sacking of Sam Allardyce and was made the permanent manager on 15th November 2016. This did not make England fans optimistic. The reason was because he had previously managed Middlesbrough who got relegated and he was the coach of the England under 21 team who had not been performing well under him.
Under him, they had performed well in the World cup 2018 qualifiers finishing toppers of their group with 8 wins and 2 draws out of 10 games and conceding only 3 goals. The pundits and fans were not excited about their chances in the world cup.
In the tournament, they won all 2 out 3 group games, losing to Belgium 1-0. They won in the round of 16 against Columbia in the penalty shootout and won the quarter finals against Sweden. When it came to the semifinals, England got the lead in the 5th minute through Kieran Trippier but eventually lost 2-1 to Croatia who went on to lose in the finals to France. England finished the campaign in 4th place after they lost their 3rd place playoff game against Belgium 2-0. Despite losing in the semifinal, players like Harry Kane, Kieran Trippier and Jordan Pickford drew a lot of praise for their performance in the tournament with Harry Kane winning the golden boot.
Following this their next stage of preparation was for the 2020 Euro. In the qualifiers, they had a strong performance, topping the group with 7 wins out of 8, conceding only six goals but scoring 37 goals. Fans and pundits lauded Gareth Southgate for giving chances to players who did not just play for a top six club. Players like Declan Rice, Kalvin Phillips and Jack Grealish, Dominic Calvert Lewin and Conor Coady were given their chance to shine in the qualifiers. Southgate also gave chances to youngsters such as Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho were given chances in the tournament.
Going into the tournament they had an squad with an average age of a little over 25. They had a mix of experience and talented youngsters. They topped their group in Euro, won in the round of 16 against Germany, brushed aside Ukraine 4-0 in the Quarter finals, won 2-1 against Denmark in extra time through a Harry Kane goal in the 104th minute. In the final against Italy, they went ahead inside two minutes through Luke Shaw but eventually conceded from a corner which was scored by Leonardo Bonucci. The game eventually went into penalties. Pickford had made two saves in the shootout, but Italy cliched the final after misses from Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka.
England finished the tournament as runners up, but there was a lot of appreciation from the fans and the pundits for the performance of the manager and team players, especially the youngsters. They were a laughing stock in the 2016 Euro and nearly won the 2020 Euro.
There has been steady progress that has been taking place in English football and Gareth Southgate deserves a lot of the credit for much tough decisions and giving chances to player to shine. The Euros are taking place in Germany this year and Gareth Southgate has a chance to take the England team one step further and guide them to the title before leaving his job as England Coach. England go into this tournament with a little bit of negativity, considering their performances against the big teams in the last 2 years, but this tournament is a chance for them to but these negative talks to rest.

The Yuan's Rise: How China's Currency Is Shaping Global Finance
Tumblr media
China's currency, the yuan (CNY/RMB), has been steadily gaining prominence on the international stage, significantly impacting global finance. In this blog, we'll explore the rise of the yuan and its profound influence on the world of finance.
Internationalization of the Yuan: Over the past two decades, China has taken deliberate steps to internationalize the yuan. This process involves promoting the use of the yuan in international trade, finance, and investments.
Inclusion in the IMF's SDR Basket: In a significant milestone, the yuan was included in the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) Special Drawing Rights (SDR) basket in 2016. This recognition elevated the yuan's status as a global reserve currency alongside the U.S. dollar, euro, yen, and British pound.
Bilateral Currency Agreements: China has entered into various bilateral currency agreements with other countries, enabling trade settlements in yuan. These agreements reduce the reliance on the U.S. dollar in international transactions.
Belt and Road Initiative (BRI): The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), China's massive infrastructure and economic development project, has further facilitated the use of yuan in international trade. BRI projects are often financed in yuan, promoting its adoption.
Currency Reserves: Central banks and sovereign wealth funds around the world have been diversifying their currency reserves by including yuan-denominated assets. This reflects growing confidence in the yuan as a stable and reliable currency.
Offshore Yuan Markets: China has established offshore yuan markets in financial centers like Hong Kong. These markets enable easier access to yuan-denominated assets and provide liquidity to international investors.
Fintech and Digital Currency: China's progress in fintech and its development of a digital currency have accelerated the yuan's internationalization. Digital yuan trials have taken place in various cities, showcasing China's commitment to modernizing its currency.
Investment Opportunities: International investors increasingly view China's financial markets as attractive investment opportunities. The inclusion of Chinese stocks and bonds in global indices has further fueled interest in the yuan.
Competition with the Dollar: While the yuan's rise is impressive, it faces challenges in dethroning the U.S. dollar as the world's dominant reserve currency. Factors like capital controls, transparency, and geopolitical concerns continue to influence global finance.
The Future of Global Finance: The yuan's ascent is reshaping the landscape of global finance. As China's economy grows and its financial markets become more accessible, the yuan is likely to play an even more significant role in international trade and finance.
Conclusion: The yuan's rise in the world of finance is undeniable. China's efforts to internationalize its currency are bearing fruit, and the yuan's growing influence is challenging the supremacy of traditional reserve currencies.
As China continues to open up its financial markets and embrace innovation, the yuan's role in shaping global finance is poised to expand further, with profound implications for the international monetary system.

Irish Open Poker
