NIKE - WHAT ARE GIRLS MADE OF? from Vasco Vicente on Vimeo.
Russian girls have always been under societal pressure. They are often told what characteristics they should be made of. The girls are expected to like and be like certain things. Unfortunately, this is often supported in culture.
Many years ago, a children’s song called “What are boys and girls made of” was released in USSR. It has since become a cultural milestone, a composition that every Russian boy and girl learn when they are young. In the lyrics of that song boys are made of things like “fireworks and energy batteries”, while girls are made of “rings, flowers and marmalade”. Up until this day, this song is used as an educational piece and is included in many Russian kindergarten and school programs.
In 2017 we decided to break stereotypes about what being a girl means by changing that song. Because Russian girls are made of more than just “flowers and marmalade”. They are made of bravery, self-dedication and dignity. They are made of freedom, confidence and independence. They are made of skill, accomplishments and achievements. With every training, every morning run, every game, every single loss and victory, Russian girls build themselves. Because they know - they are made of what they do.

The ad, created by Wieden + Kennedy Amsterdam, traces the last ten years of Mbappé’s life, from football-crazed ten-year-old to World Cup winner at 20. Present-day footage of the Paris Saint-Germain player is cut with videos of his younger self going to practice, watching hours of football, and reading footie mags – all the same stuff he does today, except now it’s magazines with his face on them. Despite dealing in fairly grand subject matter, the ad itself is relatively low key, and all the more effective for it. There’s something moving about seeing Mbappé’s younger self full of big ambitions, most of which he’s now achieved. The tagline neatly sums it all up: Love your dream until it loves you back. As well as the film, a mural of young Mbappé fast asleep, and dreaming of what lies in store, is set to pop up in Bondy, Paris, where he grew up. 'Miioon' from GLASSWORKS VFX on Vimeo.
Back in 2012, Miioon.com was the world’s first co-creation e-commerce site for kids. Offering unique, fun products, Miioon enables children (and parents) to enter an online world where they can customize clothing in an experience tailored for kids.
Miioon partnered with The Kennedys to launch this unique concept and drive kids to engage with the brand. The launch brief included creating a distinctive brand identity, including brand name, logo, slogan and brand guidelines, as well as developing an advanced e-commerce platform, packaging design, product lookbooks, and a 30-second commercial. The Miioon brand identity is inextricably linked to the “Oons” characters, who are fun-loving, silly creatures designed and developed by The Kennedys to be the guides of the colorful Miioon world. The e-commerce experience creates a collaborative universe in which the Oons help kids select colors and accessories to transform their clothes through their imagination. The responsive web design allows kids to flip between reality and fantasy, on desktop and mobile. The 30-second commercial is based on the same idea of transformation, brought to life through a mixture of real footage and animation. The hero is a young boy, who transforms into a super cool monkey, to scale an imposing climbing wall under the watchful eye of his scary teacher and classmates. The Oons help him transform his coat into a rucksack (Ruckjack) so that he can feel empowered to complete the task with ease and agility. The TVC launched on Nickelodeon on November 27. Alvaro Sotomayor, Father of The Kennedys said, "As part of The Kennedys we always look for unique opportunities to broaden our skills. When Miioon approached us to launch their e-commerce site we were excited and terrified at the same time. Launching Miioon into the world has been a true unified venture between opportunity and creativity. It is very rare these days that such an opportunity arises”. “Miioon.com gives children the chance to create their own product through an interactive online experience. We believe that once children find confidence with who they are they can do extraordinary things,” added Rupert Findlay, Co-Founder and Chief Oon of Miioon.
